I have never used any pest control company so I have no other comparison but I can say that AR1 is truly top-notch. I knew that I had a mouse in my house and tried to solve the problem myself by setting out glue traps. My efforts were unsuccessful and I a couple of days ago I saw a mouse in bathroom . . . alive!! I dont believe in sharing my home with furry creatures who dont pay rent so I wanted to nip this in the bud right away. I called around and the people at ARI sounded the most competent. In fact, when I called, I didn't talk just to the receptionist; I was actually transferred to Anthony, the man who comes to your house. I explained my situation and told him what I saw and he talked to me for about 20 minutes mostly listening to me freak out over the phone. He came out to my condo the next day. First, he looked all around my house assessing the situation. He literally spent two hours looking around for any openings where the mouse could have come in. To say that he was thorough is an understatement. He looked EVERYWHERE and the whole time, he answered all of my questions and explained everything he as doing. He sealed up every opening (under the sink, behind the dishwasher, by the water pipe) and put in some bait. Best of all, the price he charged me was very reasonable, compared with some of the other places I called. Anthony is a true professional who really knows his stuff. AR1 Group will be the only Pest Mgt company that I ever call in the future!! 1st of all I used Yelp to find a highly reviewed Pest Mgt company since I'm new to the area. I called to schedule appointment and was provided a time window for the appointment (completely understandable due to distance and traffic of the DC metro area). Anthony showed up on time as others have commented, he was very professional and courteous. I showed him the area of concern and describe the situation (mouse or squirrel in the walls) we then did an inspection of the exterior and the interior, went out to his truck and brought in his ladder and inspected the attic and found a dead mouse. He determined that this was most likely the problem he also mentioned that there was evidence of a previous professional pest service due to the bait pack that he found. He removed the dead mouse and believed that was the extent of my problem. When I asked him how much I owed him he mentioned $0.00. He mentioned in his professional experience that this was a one time situation. He then did another walk around the property to see if there was something he missed as way of entry. I am very impressed and will sing the praises of AR1 Group, he could have very easily told me that I needed a service that he didn't believe that I needed. I called on Sunday evening and had a return call and an appointment the following day. Kudos to AR1 Group for the quick response as my fiance was moving out of his old place and had to have an extermination as past of his lease agreement. I was not present for the appointment but was told Anthony was kind and thorough. I really appreciate that feedback. The trouble came when my fiance received two receipts in his email. One for the service we requested of $135 and another for nearly $400. Being extremely upset and concerned about this fraudulent charge (it is fraud when a credit card is unlawfully and unknowingly charged but AR1 Group will disagree with you there) I immediately phoned. The receptionist took down my information but I insisted on speaking to someone who could rectify the problem immediately, not the next day. She put me through to someone but did not apologize nor was she the least bit empathetic. The gentleman who answered the phone said hello and showed no knowledge of my problem or even why I was put through to him. I loudly explained what had happened (you'd be pissed too if you saw $399 and change in a receipt and had no clue as to why or what was going on) and he explained that he couldn't see what I was talking about for another 30 minutes when his system updated. I asked him for his email address and told him I would forward the emails to him so he could see immediately. He continuously told me to take a breather but also did not seem the least bit empathetic nor did he even say he was sorry. He insisted on calling me back and later rectified the problem but not before explaining that this was a company they outsource to and therefore not their fault. In my opinion, that is a representation of the company. No apology offered. That is the most infuriating part. How would anyone else feel if they suddenly got an email for an extra charge of ~$400 on their credit card? It may have been rectified, but I am still upset. I don't know if I will consider going to them again because of this mishap and the inability for the company to take responsibility and simply apologize for the mishap. read more

This company is the very best EVER. Anthony came to my house, did a THOROUGH inspection (about an hour) and then told me I needed to put in a door sweep and get plastic containers for all of the grains in the kitchen, and possibly do some pointing on the party walls. Then he charged me...NOTHING!!!! Amazing. I almost hope I have a problem in the future so that I can repay him. (Except that I never ever ever WANT a pest problem!!!) I do not take five stars lightly but Anthony earned them. I noticed several swarms in my basement and I immediately thought they were termites. Anthony came to my house within one day. He could easily have told me they were termites and had thousands of dollars from me for a long time--because they look just like them-- and, yes, we googled a lot of pictures and blew them up before calling. Instead, he placed a dead flying ant on his iPad next to a picture of a termite and showed me the small difference in their wings and abdomen. He took care of my problem, called back in a few days to ask if everything was ok and did it all at a reasonable price. I will not call anyone else but Anthony. read more

We had an excellent experience with AR1 Group. I called on a Thursday morning about a sudden case of mice in the house. This was our first time calling an exterminator so I had no idea what to expect. But a super-nice, polite, and chipper receptionist spoke to me and she left a message with someone in the group. So about an hour later I got a call back from Anthony, who I assume is the main exterminator. He was very nice and asked me to go over our situation real quick to see what he could do. He told me that he could come by the house the very next morning to assess the situation, which was great. I wasn't expecting him to be available that quickly. He arrived Friday morning exactly at the time he said he would. This guy is prompt! Like...so prompt that my husband was still in the shower and I was in the middle of doing my makeup but I didn't care. Our mouse problems were about to be solved! So Anthony looked around our house for quite a while - being very thorough but unobtrusive at the same time. He poked around inside and also outdoors and evaluated every corner of the house and came up with a solution for us. I also mentioned that we have an ant problem around the perimeter of the house and sometimes coming in to the kitchen, so he was also checking that out when he was outside. His estimate seemed very reasonable, and the best part is that he came completely prepared to work! So he went to work straight away on fixing the mouse problem - plugged up some holes on the outside of the house where they could be coming in from, put some poison bait around. He also disinfected all the areas under kitchen cabinets and in drawers etc... where there was evidence of mice. Then he set about spraying the outside of the house all around the foundation for the ants. Nice! He was friendly, quick, and didn't mind our questions. A pretty great first-time exterminator experience all in all. I definitely recommend this company if you want a quick and friendly solution for pests around the home. read more

I'm not a frequent review-writer, but I feel the need to write a review for AR1. Anthony went above and beyond to control our issue with mice. Seriously good customer service. He has refilled our traps with bait and come up with clever solutions for keeping the mice from getting in our kitchen. Anthony did not just put down bait... he came, walked around the house looking for points where the mice could enter, then moved our fridge, oven, and dishwasher to seal the areas where the drywall did not meet the floor (previous owners were DIY-ers), allowing for the mice to come in and out of the walls as they pleased. Haven't had any more mouse droppings on our stove since. Although we may continue to deal with the issues caused by our neighbors' mice (since we're in a duplex), I know I will continue to use AR1 in the future for any issues (hopefully, we won't have any!). Highly recommend. I had read in Yelp reviews about the company requiring a card number for the initial appointment, which made me feel a little uncomfortable, but it was never mis-used. read more

Overall I had an excellent experience with Ar1. The appointment scheduling was easy. The consultant/owner showed up on time and was patient with me even though I was a bit late (due to a morning workout). In the foyer the consultant put on boot covers before entering, which was nice. As we walked through the house the consultant asked questions and then explained his review process. The review process was fast and educational. There is an animal in my house. It comes in, chews up paper products (believe me - not a spec of food is out!), splashes around in the toilet, etc. I live in fear of the animal! AR1 came out and... made me feel a lot better. For that, they get a solid 5 stars. After a thorough investigation (basement, exterior of home, other apartments) the best guess is that the animal(s) is a rat. There was evidence of "rat activity" and we identified a couple places where they could get access to the house. The good news is that we already had plans to fix the places that were discovered - our kitchen is being remodeled and that should basically take care of it. If it doesn't solve the problem, we'll call AR1 again to see if what else we can find. I feel so much better now that we have a plan! This guy seems to really know his stuff. He seems to enjoy his job. He is extremely observant. As the other reviewers have said, he did not charge us for anything for the visit, which was really refreshing. After all, we got something out of the visit I would have paid for -- peace of mind. read more

I've been relying on AR1 for a couple of years now to provide pest control in my condo. Cockroaches are a recurring problem in high-rise buildings and mine is no exception. The building provides exterminator services but these are perfunctory treatments that anyone can purchase at a hardware store. AR1 has been incredibly helpful in devising a treatment plan and helping DRAMATICALLY reduce the roach problem. Anthony from AR1 Group came to our rescue this morning after we had an uninvited guest in our basement over the weekend. He searched high and low for all possible intruders and paths in & out, educating us along the way on what to look for, etc. He was extremely honest, professional, prompt, polite and patient! I called yesterday afternoon and was able to schedule an appointment for first thing this morning (8am) I was worried that I would be given a 4-hour window like some companies offer, fortunately, they were able to give me an exact time and they were on time. I hired Anthony to treat the exterior of my home for a one year contract. The contracted services included monthly maintenance of the traps. In total, I believe that Anthony and AR1 only treated my home 3 times (out of the contracted 12 times). My husband emailed and called several months ago inquiring as to the status of the failure to treat our house. I have sent SEVERAL emails asking for a refund of the initial "treatment" cost (which cost several hundreds of dollars, and which essentially amounted to the setting of traps, which as I mentioned were only serviced a few times). We now have abandoned rodent traps on our property (likely with dead rats in them), and I am trying to figure out what to do with them. In addition to this, we hired AR1 in July to treat our homes for possible fleas that our dog had contracted. We went with him because, frankly, we were in a panic at the idea of having fleas in our home and this took place over the Fourth of July weekend and we could not find another company. He charged nearly a thousand dollars for the treatment!!! We had no idea what the "market rate" for treatment was, and Anthony assured us that that is what a reasonable cost would be. Well, it turns out that my parents, who have a home three times the size of ours, paid less than $200 to have their home treated a few days later by another company (out of concern for the same issue). I never intended on writing a negative yelp review based on the flea situation, and I have hesitated in writing this review at all for some time, because I truly hoped that with a proper resolution of the breach of contract for the rodent treatment, that we could just go our separate ways. But given the total lack of communication and failure to respond to our numerous emails and phone calls about his failure to treat our property under the contract, I have had enough. I would highly recommend this company. I called AR1 because I was experiencing a problem with roaches from a neighboring townhome coming into my home. I had tried one other pest control company, but they only scratched the surface. Anthony was very thorough in his treatment. He had everything removed from my cabinets, and even sprayed behind everything in my kitchen. He also was very patient in educating me throughout the process. I followed up a week later on the status and he said I would hear from him at the end of the day with the plan and estimate. I did not hear from him and followed up again with a voice mail message, and never received a response. This is after I got him more business to treat a beehive for my neighbor. The technician (Marvin I believe) had to remove some rotting wood from my house and replace it with concrete to keep out the mice. After removing the wood, he left it in my mulch and window sill area. As I was Inpsecting his work with him, I saw trash. Which consisted of some gloves, and the chunks, chips and pieces of wood from my window. When I asked him about the trash on the ground he said the "Oh the gloves are mine, but that wood is yours.".......... So after he ripped wood off of my house he left me to clean up the trash. He did work on the inside removing foam and cleaned up after himself, but off his logic that's my foam too........ so why did he clean that up? It's very disappointing I have to clean up after someone coming to do work in my own home. I used landscapers to mulch around my windows and plants, and he left the trash all over it. Called AR1 to take care of a minor pest problem in the kitchen. Anthony was really nice and thorough. He checked out the whole house. He could have suggested the maximum money-maker possible and I would have paid, but he didn't push and the treatment he recommended has been quite successful. Many months later we saw a bug and they came out for free to do a top-off, so to speak. Also got a free inspection after a mouse false alarm. Long story short, they appear to want long-term customers and have won me over. read more

He looked all around inside and under the house. He gave me some helpful information (for example, if I put poison out myself, the one I buy might not kill mice fast enough and that's when they die in the middle of your kitchen floor - yuck!) and some reassurance that I didn't seem to have mice at the moment. He did not charge for the visit since there was nothing to do at this time. I hope I don't need them in the future (I'd rather have no mice!), but if I do I'll be calling AR1 back. read more

I just recently moved back into my home that I rented out. My tenant left me with new tenants (German Roaches). I never knew roaches had different names. I am doing a refinance on my house and am required to have a termite inspection done. I called AR1 and told the gentleman who answered the phone that I was requesting a termite inspection for a refi and I wanted to know the price. He asked for my full name. I responded that once he gave me the price, and if I waned the service, I'd provide him all my information. He put me on hold and when he returned he told me he had spoken to a technician and he could not give me an estimate without an appointment. I thanked him and ended our call. I assume a termite inspection is a fairly standard practice for a pest control company. The company I did make an appointment with gave me the price during the first call. I can't say enough good things about AR1 and especially their technician Anthony. A few Fridays ago I woke up at about 4 am to the sound of my dog getting in a cage match with a Rodent of Unusual Size. I called AR1 Saturday morning and Anthony was there by the afternoon. He did a thorough inspection and came up with an effective plan that was also safe for my pup. He has top-notch technology -- little snake cameras that can look into every nook and cranny and even between the walls, and then he shows you what's going on. He sealed up every hole that one of those critters could possibly get through. I can't say I shopped around on price, but I think their prices were more than reasonable (honestly I would have paid a ton more -- I was very pleasantly surprised when the whole thing cost $190). The work is guaranteed for I think 30 days. And Anthony is incredibly professional and couldn't be nicer. He's a DC native and has seen it all. We recently came home to the stench of a dead animal in our condo. Unfortunately it appeared to have died in the ventilation ducts as enormous flies were emanating from the vents. On top of that maggots were crawling into our bathroom light fixture. That was beyond my tolerance level so we called AR1 on a Saturday morning and they came over that afternoon. Anthony agreed that it was in the ventilation and looked over the house to see if there were any obvious places that animals could be getting in to the house. He told us that he could get into the duct and clean it out, but if it was his condo he wouldn't do anything. He thought that nature would resolve the problem in a day or two and it wouldn't involve tearing up the ceiling. I was very surprised that he recommended doing nothing, but we decided to take his advice. He said that if it doesn't resolve itself in a couple of days, he would come back. He didn't charge us or even accept a tip for the visit and it turned that he was right; the smell and the flies quickly dissipated. I had AR1 and Anthony come out this morning for a rodent issue. Anthony arrived on time and then went about investigating the issue. He was both professional and knowledgeable about the source of the problem. Anthony inspected the interior and exterior of the house to determine the point of entry. He informed me of the best solution that would eliminate the problem. He also provided additional guidance on what to do to cut down on the moisture problem which attracts the mice. Anthony never tried to sell me anything and told me exactly how to fix the problem myself. Fortunately, I have never had to use an exterminator company before and with Anthony's advice on how to fix the mouse problem I don't think I will need to use one again in the future but if I do I would definitley call this company without any hesitation. I have never taken the time to write a review on anything but felt the professional level of service and advice from Anthony warranted a quick word. read more
