I came into the store to purchase a computer. They told me that I need to schedule a time to meet with someone online. I only had a few questions regarding buying a computer, but they insisted that nobody can help me today and that the earliest was tomorrow. The host mentioned that I can purchase the computer online. So I did. however, because there was nobody to talk to regarding the computer, I accidentally purchased a computer with the wrong port primarily because there was no customer service in the store. 2 weeks later, I returned to the store with my new computer that was shipped to understand why I received a computer without the ports that I ordered. They explained that it was a miscommunication on my part in not understanding the various ports that are available. I didn't realize that the 3 and 3.0 ports are not the same thing. I explained to them the entire situation about purchasing this computer and the frustrations that I encountered along the way. The manager just said that you can return the computer or purchase the $20 conversion cable. Honestly, that's what frustrated me the most! Of course, I needed the computer. After spending $2,300, I would think that Apple would have the decency to offer a cable as a small gesture for being a loyal customer for over 20 years! This cavalier manager could've cared less. In the end she said, " We treat everyone equally". That's correct, equally with No Respect. And definitely no compassion for their loyal customers! This manager has a lot to learn about customer service. This experience was very disappointing. Unfortunately, I don't think that Apple really cares about their customers. What's with the 'tude dude? Simply put I don't think they're short staffed, however it's hard to get help here. When I finally did, and it turned out what I wanted wasn't on the floor, the associate said, I'll have to call up and check if we have it. So you would think his next move would be to do that, instead there was a long pause and then I asked well, can you call? Turns out they didn't have it, which is good since I really had second thoughts of spending my hard earned cash. I'll stick to other locations. This is by far the worst store for tech support (Genius bar). I have come here twice to get my Iphone fixed and each time they offered some advice that ended up doing nothing for me. I wasted time and effort coming here and had to go back again to correct the issues. First time going back to Old Orchard and today heading there as well, as my 11/8 visit to Northbrook was a waste due to poor service. I brought my friend to this particular Apple store because it's in Northbrook and I assumed they give less problems to customers here because they get the "richer population" and want them to come back and buy everything else in the store. My friend's warranty expired for his iPhone and his phone was overheating to the point where the metal started melting and the color faded! Literally, the phone would be too hot to hold. So we brought it to this location, they exchanged it for a phone (not sure if it's new or refurbished) without taking much time. I'm not sure if it was recall that my friend missed or if this is their usual protocol for overheating phones, but it was an extremely simple process. read more

This Apple Store is pretty much the same as all of the others: 1. Always busy. 2. Always overstaffed (but not really, see point 1.) 3. Always just a little bit cluster-y... if you know what I mean. I know its marketing to have the big ticket items (iPads, MacBook Pros, etc.) in the front of the store and the smaller items (chargers, phone cases, software packs) in the back, but it really leads to point 3, cluster f*kery. Lots of it. It makes me always want to avoid Apple stores, unless I'm going in for a new big ticket item, like sometime in the next few months when I'll be purchasing a new laptop. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, without being pushy or overbearing. Unfortunately, since I'm cheap, once I do end up buying said new laptop, it won't be at this location, because technically, they are in Cook County with a 10% sales tax. read more

I get to the Apple store hoping that one of the associates can help me by showcasing some of the best apple store apps or methods of using the iphone in a business setting. The associate just takes me to a computer and tells me to log onto Apple.com and look at the information up on my own. I guess the people that work in Apple only care about selling you their crap. But they can't help you when you're not there to buy any products from them. It's all about the $$$ and the commission for them. Anything to do with phones or computers or tablets makes her eyes glaze over and she has trouble following simple instructions. When she needed to replace a lost phone recently, Jeanie M. of the Northbrook Apple Store was incredibly patient with her, spending 1 hour+ helping her select and fully set up an iPhone 7 Plus, all the while using humor and clever examples to explain phone functions in a way that was engaging and easy to follow. Went in to have an iPad checked out. Waited 25 minutes, which was fine since they texted me when ready. Corrected the iPad issue but when I asked the apple associate for help with an iMac (whether the Mac can support multiple monitors) he said, "I don't know" and told me to wait in another line for 30 minutes!! This is not acceptable service. All employees should be knowledgable enough to answer basic questions, not just pass the buck to someone else. Asked to speak to the manager named SCOTT. He could tell I was upset with regards to the prior incident and decided to walk off and ignore me for another 20 minutes ! Skip Apple Care!!!! It sounds great but in reality it doesn't cover what you think. According to Giovanni, store manager at Northbrook, IL restrictions include ensuring that the computers use must be operated in stated temp and humidity ranges. So imagine if you happen to keep your laptop to close to the bathroom when you shower, or take it out of your briefcase that was in the trunk during a cold winter day. Either way your outside the parameters and out of luck for coverage. I should mention that they denied my apple care claim for exactly that - signs of possible moisture. They couldn't say what, or when, and somehow on a dead screen they miraculously concluded it "was clearly outside warranty". The net was I could pay $800+ to repair and re-instate Apple Care (to what end I don't understand if it doesn't cover the computer) or buy a new laptop. If you have Apple Care you can get a prorated refund which I would suggest you do. At least you'd have that money in your pocket when they deny your claim. read more

Going into an Apple Store is a trip in itself. The room is quite a blend of wood and plastics, earthy-ness and high tech. There are assistants everywhere to help you use Apple products. At ANY computer in the store you can sign up for a time at the "Genius Bar", a place in the middle of the store against the wall where they will give you from 10 - 20 minutes of personal help to get you through a problem with your iPod or working with the programs on the Macintosh, just enough time to get "unstuck" on a problem. If you need more time, you can sign up for Pro Care, a paid, yearly service that gives you total one-on-one help with a "Creative Specialist" for one hour at a time. Also, every Apple store offers workhops weekly for anyone who needs help on a product. Just go to the website and check the availability, and show up. With luck, it'll just be you and the teacher! They have a "kid's camp", too! Of course there are the Video iPods, Nanos, Minis, and other accessories to pimp your iPod to the max. But Apple truly shines in professional courtesy and learning. Apple is on the cutting edge of great machines and music gizmos. As far as I am concerned, Apple's name in computers and MP3 players is synonymous with creativity, inspiration, and being original. As they say, "It Just Works." As a teacher, photographer, artist, and musician, I am hooked on GarargeBand, iPhoto, iWeb, and All of the other great programs in iLife and iWork '06. My iPod goes with me in the car and when I work around the house so my music diet is what I want. I've been to the Apple Store here in Northbrook, in Woodfield and (my favorite) Old Orchard. Apple directed me to this store for iPhone battery replacement under the current program. I received an email from Apple that my part had arrived, and that I had a week to get it installed or they would let someone else have the part. So the next day after work I arrive at this Apple store at 5:30 pm only to be told "we're not doing any more battery repairs today, you'll have to come back another day. Best to come when we open at 10:00 am." Are you kidding me? Most people work, and arriving at 5:30 after work when prompted by their email just to be told to come back later well, that's absolute BS. Especially when this location was still open for a few more hours - I could see it if I arrived right before closing time but that was not the case here. Worst Apple store I've ever dealt with. EDIT: The next day I get off work early to get this done. Rather than waste a trip, I call first. Do you think I could get a human being on the line? Nope. Sat on hold for 15 minutes before I hung up. This stores customer service level is zero in my opinion. Garbage. read more

This company is doing a lot of things right. Always been an apple user since they first came on the scene. Yes the kind u strapped a TV monitor to the giant boxy keyboard. Anyway this store like most are packed. Make an appointment online before you arrive if you come for an issue with your device. They often overbook and aren't exactly timely but what they do right is get the job done. I bought my laptop here about 6 years ago. It still runs fine, but there are problems with the wireless card and the mouse, I figure, it's time for me to get a new macbook pro instead of investing in something old. Well I went into the store, right away I saw it was crowded, no one came up to me. I see one of the guy's in a blue shirt, just standing in front of a girl texting, so I figure i'd ask him about the macbook pro's. He just said, "sorry, i'm actually helping someone, but you'll be the first in line to have someone answer your question" Now I just had a really quick question, I was wondering whether they were going to release more updated macbook pro's anytime soon... but instead I have to wait in line... to ask a question!!!?? Are you serious!? This was a huge WTF moment for me, on top of that I waited 10 minutes and NO ONE came. I just walked out, and no one even noticed. This has been my second time here and the customer service from people suck. First time I came to buy a phone and the associate over charged my card so it got declined and $1000 went missing. Then I asked him about warranty on a pair of air pod pros that I have and he told me to just bring them in to get them replaced. So today I made an appointment to come in and get them worked out and one of their rude managers refused to look at them for me. And I tried explaining to him that I made an appointment and that this is my second time coming to this store and having nothing but problems with an associate let alone I do not live close. I literally have to drive 45 mins there and back each time I go to them for service which apparently sucks. Apple seriously needs to get their shit together because this is ridiculous. I had at least 3 people help me purchase, transfer my info to my new phone and trade in my old phone. They seemed to work as a team. Howard helped me purchase my phone and started updating my phone. Another person saw it was taking a long time, so he hooked it up to a computer to make it go faster. Jared helped me finish setting up my phone and took out the SIM card from my old phone because I was trading it in. I finished right at closing time on Christmas Eve. The epicenter of smugness and arrogance in this universe. A place where you're told to come back in three hours - not to pick up your repaired phone, but just to be able to drop it off. While you're waiting in the store, whatever timeframe they give you for someone to get to you will be exceeded by a factor of at least 3x. They will not notify you when your repair is done... instead, they give you a time and have the gall to say "we run on time". In what will come as a total shocker, it wasn't ready. I'm a big fan of Apple products and have always had pleasant experiences while shopping here. Typically, I tend to just look to do research since the prices for things such as accessories are always higher at the store. I know I can buy the same thing online for a little less. The staff seems nice, but I agree that they can be overbearing if you're on the fence about buying an Apple product or are just looking. Personally, if you're debating on getting a PC or a Mac, I'd go with a Mac. I recently made the switch and I couldn't be happier. read more

UPDATE - JUNE 2018 APPLE NORTHBROOK has turned it around and I have now had 3 great experiences in a row there. One was a store pickup, one an in-store purchase, and today an AppleCare situation. Today I walked in with a blotch on my iPad screen. Something weird was happening with the bright lighting. After a 20 minute wait, I spent a little time with Neil showing him th issue. He was kind, informed, and saw the blotch. Without hesitation he swapped the iPad for a new one since it was under AppleCare. I walked in around 12:10 and walked out at 12:45 with a new device. SUPERB SERVICE and Neil and I share an interest in photography, so while I waited for the new iPad he had some great hardware and software tips. So nice to see what once was a terrible location make the turn for the better and become a go-to location! ---------------------------------------------- I've been going to the Deer Park store for the past 2 years instead of this one due to my bad experiences here. Deer Park employees are PHENOMENAL by the way. I've bought all of my higher-end apple products there. About 6 months ago I dropped my iPad Air while doing laundry. I had just enough time to get to the Northbrook Apple Store. I was told I wouldn't be helped without an appointment. Obviously I just wanted a swap as I had the AppleCare+. A nice gentleman at the door said, "Eh...I'll take care of it" and he did. Wow! Things were looking up! Tonight I returned to the same location with little time to spare because of a faulty camera on my new phone. At 8:50 there was one customer in the store besides me and he seemed to be wrapping it up. 3 of the employees agreed by looking at the video that the camera seemed faulty. All of them told me to make an appointment. I asked if there was any way they could take care of the issue. They told me that after I returned at my appointment time the next day it would likely be swapped out. They are closing soon, they all told me. I understand the need for the appointments at the genus bar during the day. When the store is empty and everyone is standing around it would have been genuinely appreciated if they quickly swapped it. I'll follow up tomorrow with a final update. --- final update for a while --- The store seems to have turned things around for the better for now. I've been in a couple of times recently and the staff was quick to help and very friendly. There are a lot of new faces since I've been there in the past and I'm sure the new people have a lot to do with the positive change. I love the Apple Store and this one is hands down my favorite in the Chicago area. Sandy was excellent when helping me purchase and activate two iPhones and took her time explaining everything. The salespeople are always friendly without being pushy and asking too many times "can I help you with anything??" (hate that. i just told you no, I'm just looking!) I also like this store because a few months ago when they were closing early for the day I arrived 5 minutes after closing time and they went out of their way to go grab me an apple tv and cable although they were already closed. read more

The worst Apple Store that I've encountered (I've been to at least 10 others). First time: I had an appointment for an iPhone camera repair. I drop it off and come back when they said it would be ready. Fair enough. I come back and check in. The Apple Store associate finds me and says she'll be right back with my phone. She gets distracted by another customer and continues on with said customer. Then another customer asks her a question, as I'm watching from the other side of the room. After 30 minutes, I approach her and ask about my phone. She totally forgot about it! Second experience: I have an appointment scheduled 5 days in advance to have my iPhone battery replaced. I show up, and they don't have the part available. Seriously? You already knew in advance what I was coming in there for, yet you can't even have the part ready? BTW, it was literally a 99 cent part. read more

I went to check in and the guy said it will be a hour wait I said that's fine because my appointment is was originally at 6:35, so I said 6 will be better. Came in with my 4 year old iPhone for battery replacement got it replaced I keep phone in case since brand new never had any problems two weeks later my screen occasionally would not work apps opened by themselves etc but it was very frequent I though it had to be a glitch in new update week later I just couldn't take that anymore I went back to the store at that point they told me sorry it has be b almost a month since we worked on phone right now you will have to pay 350 fix fee like wtf !! Stay away from that place they don't know anything about working with phones I'll go to a booth in mall where they replace iPhone batteries and have them take it apart and put back together the right way for fraction of price STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE next thing I'll do is make a you tube video on how to deal with their screw ups read more

The customer service from the staff here is superior! Love how they explain anything, understand almost everything, and are willing to go the extra mile. We have visited this store quite a few times for phone fixes and each time the staff is super knowledgeable, friendly, informative and well, they unlike many stores nowadays go above and beyond to make sure you leave with understanding of your product and feel comfortable. Awesome! On our last visit we were waiting a bit for my phone to be checked. We have wanted a portable speaker for our phones to make a little louder for picnics, fires, whatever... I saw a solar powered speaker that was a decent price and seemed just what we wanted. While looking a staff member asked if I had any questions, I asked if he knew about the solar speaker, he did not, te person he thought May was out, he took it upon himself to carefully open for me to sample to see if it was in fact what we wanted. Needless to say after him, my husband, daughter, and now a few other interested staff members we bought the speaker! I love that he went above and beyond to let is sample and hear before we bought it! We are extremely happy! read more

Terrible experience today at the Apple store in Northbrook Court. I felt like I was invisible the entire time I was there. I scheduled an appointment for 2pm to have my battery replaced. I did not get to meet with a representative until 2:15pm. I was told by the manager that it would take about 1.5hrs to run a diagnostic and replace the battery on my phone. However, when I got my service ticket, it said they wouldn't begin working on my phone until 3:39pm and that I could pick it up at 4:10pm (2hrs and 10 mins after my scheduled appointment time). When I arrived back at the store at 4:10pm to pick up my phone, again, no one stopped to help me so I had to flag people down. After getting a rep's attention he said my phone wasn't ready and that it would be a few more minutes. After waiting another 5 minutes, I had another representative check on the status who said it wouldn't be ready for another 15 minutes! I went back to the store at 4:30pm and they said it was ready and to wait at a particular table. I waited almost another 10 minutes for someone to come out with my phone. I finally left the store fixed phone in hand at 4:40pm. 1) what is the point if taking a reservation if you can't honor my time? 2) why does it take 2 hours to replace a phone battery? 3) why don't they have enough people staffed to help customers who made appointments? Avoid this place for servicing your phone. They are terribly inefficient. You will wait to talk to someone then they tell you to stand next to a wall only to wait again. This after waiting 2 weeks to get a battery they really ought to have in stock. If you are patient enough to get your phone in the queue, then it's another 5 hours for the actual changing of the battery itself. read more

I called apple support the night before and they made an appointment for me at this (closest) location. I have an IPhone 6+ and it is my first IPhone. I am an Android girl. (until now) So, I bought my phone from Verizon in January (for over 1K which seems ridiculous) but okay. My phone decided it wanted a bath- and come on......who wouldn't give in to such a pretty phone? So after its bath (unintentional) I called Verizon first, they said I chose to opt out of the $16.99/month insurance (duh)- then Apple support. Apple support much more helpful. I will also say that my phone worked fine for a full week after it's adventure. So I go in for my appointment and a super nice guy named Tom tasked with helping me. I explained what happened. The iphone6+ is supposed to be water resistant he explained to me. but there are very specific limitations on that. There are also sensors within the phone that the geniuses can see with their magic tools that will show if the phone has been water compromised. Mine was not. (VERY LUCKY FOR ME) So a few scan diagnostic tests on the phone and an hour later Tom handed me a brand new phone. I was upset that I didn't know how to back it up, so I did lose everything between January and June, but that is on me. I like the vibe in the store except for some of the "uppity" customers. I also like that Apple doesn't make their employees cover tattoos or piercings and allows all hair colors. This made me feel right at home.
