this store has everything I need. I've purchased geriatric supplies for my elderly relatives. You can find every kind of candy that are hard to find in other places as well as handmade candies from local small business companies. I get my 1000 piece White Mountain puzzles there regularly which they keep in stock. I am able to to purchase my husband his favorite brand of DADS root beer, which is an older, hard to find elsewhere, but not here. I could purchase baby gifts, jewelry, outerwear, and holiday gifts. Basically this place has everything I need. The outstanding help every time I go there comes from Debbie behind the counter who is friendly knowledgeable, and always there to help. I am not sure where the bad reviews come from. This is the best pharmacy I have ever used. Every time I walk in, I'm greeted with a smile and treated with genuine kindness and respect. They know me by name, they truly care about their customers. My medications are always ready when expected. Over the time I have spent with them they have just gone above and beyond in terms of patient care, even checking in when needed. When this Store was taken over (or should I say: was overtaken) by the new owners, it lost all of it's magic. The new owners may have been experienced pharmacists, but when it comes to running a business they are amateurish. Their Pharmacy started charging me approximately $4.00 more per prescription. (when Rx's accept Medicare part D, they accept what predetermined rate Medicare reimburses) as opportunists they foolishly decided to double the co-pay-- greed? Ignorance? anyone's guess... ) when they began charging $3.00 per RX as a delivery fee (that means three dollars per Rx on each RX delivery. So, an order of five Rx's costs $15 extra- delivered. Add in the extra co-pay and it starts to become costly each month. Another greedy trick happened when I needed some fancy surgical dressing, they wanted $10 each for the dressing and I had to pay for it via Plastic even though I had an in-store account for years, I ran the name of dressing through my search engine and found the exact Item for $1.00 or a package of 10 for $9.95. They are disrespectful money-grubbing amateurs and I'm now saving seven dollars per RX times a dozen prescriptions at a new pharmacy. I don't know if it's ignorance or greed or if they're in the wrong business, but I know I'm never going back. read more

Something feels terribly tainted about this place ever since the new owners took over. It was once the friendly family corner drugstore That saved you from mistakes caused by; Inappropriate polypharmacy, Adverse Drug Effects and reactions, etc., Has now become a Pharmacy lacking trustworthiness. For example, a prescribed prep containing PEG was caught by our trustworthy Pharmacy Rep. That saved the day, but under the new regime, an order for a simple supplement containing the same PEG was missed causing my primary physician to refer me to a number of specialists until we (not the Rx selling the product) found the culprit and disposed of it. Other examples:- °refills called in without any delivery in five days, -followed up to check the status- "waiting for the Physician to call back" - Contacted physicians office only to find that both orders had (3) refills left on the Rx's - no Physicians input required! Stupid mistake, or outright Lie? °Co-pay suddenly doubled (?) Trip to ER required I pick-up a new RX from a local pharmacy. Copay- $1/4 of Apex charges. Aren't copays determined by insurance? °Apex decides all home deliveries will be charged $3.00 ($7.50 per RX x 10 = $70.00+/- per month compared to $35.00 per month under prior owner. ° Special bandage for sores - $10.00 each. Apex pharmacy in Hamden, Ct is the absolute worst pharmacy I've ever been to and I've been going to many different pharmacies for 36 years, because I was injured in a horrible car accident and now have Traumatic Brain Injury and am disabled and I also have Interstitial Cystitis, which is why I was there in the first place. I had to bring in a prescription by person to get diazepam suppositories filled. I gave my prescription to an older pharmacist that happened to have a lip that drooped..I'm not saying that to put him down or make fun of him in any way. The pharmacist took my prescription and put it in the system and gave me the prescription back to me, which I thought was weird, because that has never happened to me before. It is a compound drug and I was told to come back and pick it up in two days. I came back two days later and no one could find the prescription anywhere. The owner, who is a pharmacist told me that couldn't have happened. I said please check on your site on the computer and you'll see that it should be ready that day. I described the order pharmacist and he got very upset when I said he had a lip that drooped. I couldn't understand why he was mad, because when I was younger I had a drooping lip, a horrible and painful lip because I was allergic to sulfa drug I was on for bladder infections. Now on this day I was in extreme pain and he Refused to look it up and take responsibility for screwing up my order which I needed desperately that night. I gave him back the prescription the other pharmacist gave back to me and he started a big argument that I was lying about bringing it there at all to get filled when other workers recognized me. I couldn't believe he would not check and treated me with awful disrespect and made me belittled and like I did not matter. He berated me in front of his staff and other customers and I called him an asshole, which I know I shouldn't have, but I was at my wits end. Then he actually asked me is this about race.. I assume because I was white and he is of another race. I was furious and dumbfounded, because I have a niece and nephew that are both different races. Then he told me he refused to fill it and I was very upset, crying uncontrollably and totally embarrassed in front of everyone there. Then my doctor called and was questioning why I was all upset and I told her and she said she would talk to him, but he said he couldn't talk on my phone and to take her name and phone number. He didn't end up calling her and his attitude changed towards me. He said he would fill it and I could come in the next day and pick it up as long as I promised I would treat him very nicely. I got more hysterical and I promised on my mother, brother and father, who have all passed away. I left and went to my car and couldn't drive for quite a while because I was still crying. I don't know if this man feels he is superior to others and he all along wanted me to feel like I was beneath him and a liar about my prescription getting (I thought) filled two days ago, if he had just taken the time to look it up like I asked him to this all could've been avoided, but he wanted to act like he was the boss and I was just a client and treated me like I was a nobody and that he could disrespect me in front of all these people. I am still furious and it's been weeks, but I haven't because of my disabilities and I've been in horrendous pain with horrible migraines I get daily and this bladder pain that is causing me severe pain. I guess he feels like it's fine to treat others like they are below him if you question him or he dislikes where the conversation is going. I am disabled and in daily pain and I go to a pharmacy you think would want to help you, well not this place! I bought some items in there the first time I went in and was told there was no refund policy only exchanges on certain items and when I looked at my receipt another day it said things could be returned, so the worker lied about that. Also, he never told me my prescription was not covered by my insurance, so I paid out of pocket, which I would've anyway because I was am so much pain now. I've read other reviews that were also horrible about the compounding part of the pharmacy. I am appalled at the way I was treated and I will tell everyone I know and will give more bad reviews when I am up to it. read more

I needed some medication for my cat and my doctor called it in to Apex pharmacy. There was a mixup in whether I was picking it up or it was going to be shipped USPS and a card was charged incorrectly. I spoke to several of the employees there who were all very pleasant. I finally talked to the manager refunded the card with no problem. The medication was actually still at the store so I was able to go pick it up. He showed me how to use the medication and made everything very easy. I highly recommend Apex pharmacy to anyone. read more

Day 5 after a prescription for a nebulizer was called in by my Dr as I have covid and I still don't have the nebulizer. They don't answer the phone 90% of the time, and when they do they manage to lose documents that were already sent to them. Their email address is GMAIL and clearly in violation of HIPAA. Was finally told to have it picked up this afternoon, then my friend who was kind enough to drive up there to get it called me to tell me that they said their billing department had shut down for the month and that he'd have to come back tomorrow, even after my insurance was already cleared in full. I walk into Apex Pharmacy to purchase a few needed items and as you walk in there are 2 large signs one reads 17.99 FOR 1 CAN OF LYSOL SPRAY. The other one reads 18.99 FOR 1 SPRAY BOTTLE OF CLOROX CLEANUP. Are you for real? These items retail for 4.99 and 4.59 respectively. When I mentioned to the kid that the price was an absolute joke, he stated well we are a little higher priced than other places.. A LITTLE HIGHER PRICED??? Apex you should be embarrassed and ashamed of yourself for taking advantage of your customers, of which seniors make up a very large portion of. To take advantage of the needs of others during this time is horrible. The states attorney needs to Look into this business and its practices and I will be calling them on Mondag. read more

Today my husband returned a scooter which I had been using for the last 2 weeks. The person receiving it wanted to charge us for another week although he had been told to return it today. He protested and managed to get over that hurdle. Then they denied that he had paid a $100 deposit, although it was listed on the paperwork he had brought with him. A second person came eventually to research the deposit problem on the computer and that problem was solved too. However, we wonder if the perception is that if you're old, you're wrong. In addition, we worry that as we get even older we will face this kind of difficulty more often. As far as the scooter is concerned, it was OK but not nearly as good as the smaller, lighter one I rented from Apex six years ago. read more

Stairlift support My family has been renting a stairlift from Apex for several years. Recently the lift malfunctioned on a Saturday and when my 88 year old grandfather called to report the problem he was told that they no longer had weekend support! They told him he would need to wait until Monday! This seems unacceptable considering many folks cannot climb the stairs without the lift. What is a person supposed to do? Even worse, what if an elderly person attempted to climb or descend and fell?! Completely wrong policy. I will no longer patronize Apex. read more

Have been doing business with Apex for a little over a year. Compounding department has had some minor slipups...but willing to work with the customer. Head pharmacist manages pharmacy, with an underlying belief system that he "knows it all", wielding his power like a gestapo. Falsely accused me of scaring and mistreating "his staff", mainly to have an excuse not to continue to fill my monthly prescriptions. Doesn't appear to be accountable to anyone, not even the co-owners of the pharmacy. A public pharmacy should always provide full access to all medications prescribed by a medical professional. If you value your dignity and self esteem consider doing business elsewhere. read more

Went to George Howarth Homecare Specialist at Apex Hamden to get a Blood Pressure Monitor for my wife. He dispensed one with the Huge, cuffs without telling me how big the cuff is. Went back to George Howarth to returned the BP Monitor and get one with smaller size, He would not accommodate my wife instead he yelled at my wife that he only carries that one size. When my wife asked for the Prescription back, he said he can't and he won't. He was not courteous nor professional. He was an horror to my wife. Never will go back to that store again. Urge Apex Management to retrain George so he can learn to be helpful and professional to patients who are in need. read more

We rented a reclining chair from Apex in the winter of 2018 when my husband was recovering from back surgery, and decided to purchase one, which we did in April. I have the highest praise for the customer service we received. People spent time on the phone when we called, and were very knowledgeable. When we were debating which chair to buy, they never acted rushed, and made clear what the alternatives were. And they deliver and take away in a timely and courteous fashion, as well. We talked with George several times, and two women who were wonderful, too. Everyone always acted interested and wanted to be helpful. Couldn't be better! read more

I have had nothing but problems each time I have tried to deal with this company. The first time I was told that it would be the following week before a lift chair could be picked up from my home. My husband had passed and I wanted the item removed from my house so my son didn't have to be reminded of his father each time he saw the chair. Today when I called I was put on hold. After 10 minutes no one picked up so I called back and was told that the person that could help me went home for the day. When I asked why I wasn't told that before I was put on hold the person I spoke to said "There are a lot of people who work here." The reason I called today was because I was billed for a rental that I haven't had for almost two month. I had the item two days before my husband passed and a few days after until it was picked up. I just trying to find out why I am being billed and there is no one that is available to answer my question. read more

The review by Harris F. is so wrong and unfair to this business. This is one of the best pharmacies I have ever dealt with. Aside from the wonderful compounding and supplement departments, their customer service is first rate. The supplements that are sold are priced very reasonably and much lower than at other places. And they contacted my MD's office when I had no refills left without a problem. They even went out of their way to call and let me know when the refill was denied because of a screw-up on the part of the MD's office. read more

I worked with Andrea in finding a pair of compression stockings that fit properly. She could not have been any nicer, patient, and kind to me. She showed me how to put the stocking on properly, and believe me, just getting it on your leg is quite a trick. We went throught 3 different styles before finding the proper fit for me.
