I did not have any work done at Totem Lake Auto Care. However when my dad (who suffers from…read moredementia) got lost he somehow ended up at their shop. We do have a tracker on his car, and apparently dad had left his cell phone behind when he left. Since I could see he was parked there at Totem Lake Auto Care I decided to call the shop and I caught Caleb just as he was headed out the door to guide dad to his doorstep. Caleb took time out of his day to drive to my parents' place so that dad could follow him... then he called me from the parking lot as he watched dad head in the door and knew he was safe. While I obviously can't give input on any repairs made, the action he took for my dad tells me that this is a man of character and that speaks volumes about him and his desire to treat people well. I want to recommend this shop to everyone I can, and my family and I are so grateful that my dad somehow wandered in the door of this business. It's awesome to know that there are still people like this in the world- my dad would have done the exact same thing in that situation and I'm so thankful to see that those people can still be found.

I always feel like they do exactly what is needed and don't "find" extra charges for more. They're timely and communicate well. They even talk through when it doesn't make sense to fix something or when a warranty could cover things elsewhere, despite the fact they could make money off the repair. If you're looking for someone you can really trust, this is a great spot in an industry that can be hard to trust sometimes.

I expect this will be my last trip into Firestone. I've been getting my oil changed here for a…read morecouple years and have simply ignored their other service recommendations. This last visit was just too much for me to keep that up. I came in for an oil change. They recommended tires, which were needed (I got a better tire elsewhere for less), but what absolutely blew me away was their recommendation for a new engine air filter. I'd replaced it less than a month earlier. They even included a helpful picture of a fairly dirty filter on top of my battery - only problem is that wasn't my filter. I just checked (and took my own pic) over a month after my visit and mine still looks great. Air filters are one of the easiest things to replace, typically requiring no tools, making them one of the fastest ways for shops to make money. This is one of the most basic tests for how honest a shop is. Sorry Firestone, you couldn't have failed harder. They also recommended replacing portions of my suspension (verbally, not detailed on the "Courtesy Check") so I brought my car into my mechanic. My suspension is fine (huh, whoever snuck into my garage and replaced the air filter must have also worked on the suspension), but it turns out that the oil pan gasket and filter are badly leaking. After a month of driving, the oil was already fairly sludgy simply because of buildup in the oil pan (assuming it was fresh when they put it in). In other words, even the service that was performed had to be redone. Sure, it costs a bit more to have your oil changed at a shop that uses ASE certified mechanics but this is a good reminder to me why it's worth it.

Some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Never go here unless you've got money to burn. They asked for 1500. I got the work done for 700 somewhere. Still had to pay 300 for their BS diagnostic fee. Don't know how their rating is so high.

Okay, I never thought any business would deserve a 1 star review, and I hate to be the A-hole to do…read moreit. But this has to be said about this business. And these pictures of evidence have to be shown to the public. My car went in for an oil pan re-sealing. The interaction with the shop was pleasant. The price was about the average market rate. However, the work they did was absolutely horrendous. After the fix, as I inspected the oil level on the dipstick, it was overfilled by almost a full quart! (The oil level exceeded the mark by an entire full-low range). This means that they either went by vehicle specs instead of the dipstick, or they just made a simple but preventable mistake. I took the car on a road trip two days after the fix. On the next morning after I got back, there was a gigantic oil spill on the ground. Now to be fair, my car has a leak from the front engine seal, but nowhere near this bad. (You can see the old dried spots verses the newer much bigger puddles in the picture) This alerted me and I immediately took my car to my buddy's garage, that has a 2 post lift. We lifted the car up and looked under the car. The oil leak from the front engine seal got significantly worse. There was also some oil dripping on the oil pan. !!?? I thought this was due to the overfilling and the fact that they used synthetic blend oil instead of conventional oil. So I decided to drain the oil, and add conventional oil back in. As I took the drain bolt out, I was shocked! There was no gasket (washer) on it! They took the oil pan off, re-sealed it, refilled the oil, and DID NOT put a gasket on the drain bolt. At this point I was extremely frustrated and could not believe how they could possibly do such a bad job. Maybe this was an isolated incident, and they normally do much better than this. But I know I won't be coming back here anymore.

They will upsell you which is of varying value: they will try to sell you a $10 air filter for $50; skip that. They did offer brake fluid flushing at market rate for my car and were honest about the service levels. They did incorrectly say the service interval (and need) for transmission fluid which was an unnecessary service for my car. Probably 3.5 stars but I'll round up since it was fast and efficient enough. Just don't let them sell you service you don't need.

Before the work was done, I specifically asked if they were using the correct fluid for my truck, and they assured me they were. I trusted them and paid for the service. A few months later, my truck started having transmission noises and hard shifting. I took it to a GMC dealership, where they performed a full inspection. Their technical report concluded that the transmission fluid used does not meet the specifications required for my vehicle. I have the service receipt and the dealership's documentation to support this. What disappointed me even more was how management handled the situation. I tried to resolve the issue professionally and presented all the evidence, but I was ignored and treated with a complete lack of respect. I expected honesty, professionalism, and accountability. Instead, I was left with a damaged transmission and no support. I sincerely hope the company contacts me and takes responsibility for resolving this issue. (425)399-0453 esdras
