I need to keep my cars safe and in good shape for my kids and I to drive but needless to say I'm on a budget. This week I took my KIA in and found out the business was sold. WOW! It is even better than before. Great online scheduling with text and email confirmation. Electronic report on what they checked on my car, reasonable cost and Sam the technician was super friendly and accommodating. I felt good about going here before, but I feel great about it now. I do not recommend this shop. We have gone to Jim for our previous cars and didn't have problems, till now. We took our hot rod to Jim to get timed correctly and stop the transmission fluid leak and small radiator leak. We got it back from Jim "undertimed" because of our rear brakes - which his worker specifically said to me and my father & son, then Jim said we misunderstood. After we got it back it would not drive at all, which it has drove fine for the past 3 years. After a $1200 bill, we take it back since now it won't drive at all, he fixes a wire and charges us $400. He took it upon himself to change our oil and filter and spark plugs without even asking if we wanted it done. It took us calling him for four days to even get a quote after he stated he would call us with the quote. The transmission leak still is not fixed after he said he fixed it and the dip stick. He offered to look at it again, I'm sure to the cost of another $500+ dollars on my part. read more

We were recommended this shop by a family friend. We had our truck towed in and they did a compression check. They said it would need a new motor. After going back and forth for a while we decided to not go forward with repairs. When we went to go pick up the truck it was supposed to be accessible for a tow truck, it wasn't. they refused to move other vehicles and it was much harder to load than it should have been. We realized the spark plugs and wires were still in the passenger seat and when we opened the hood, parts of the air intake was missing. We were told the people who worked on it weren't in at that time and we'd have to wait to see why things weren't re-assembled. We never got a call, so we called them. When asking why things weren't reassembled and why there were oily fingerprints and footprints everywhere we got told they don't reassemble cars when repairs are declined, although numerous other shops said that's bad practice, and this shop told us if anything we owe them MORE MONEY for them 'helping us load onto the trailer'. They said we should be happy they didn't charge us an additional $400 to help us load the truck. It's absolutely absurd and they also charged us $400 just for the compression test, which we will now be disputing with the credit card company over this. If you want to get your vehicle back the way you handed it over, or improved, I don't recommend sending it here! read more

Didn't plan to leave feedback until what happened this morning. It completely pissed me off. I have done some maintenances and repairs on my two cars myself, like replacing power steering pump, brake work, front air struct replacement, secondary air injection pump, etc, so although far from being a pro, I know the technical stuff I am taking about here. My Odyssey's alternator was bad and I called them for estimate. They quoted me for about $520+/- for parts and $300+ for labor, total $830, after 10% tax it would be around $910+/-. He didn't quote me any other charges. When picking up the car from them, they charged me $976, the extra charge ($75) was the core charge for the broken alternator. The alternator was replaced last August at a different NAPA AutoCare Center, now it failed again, so this repair should be covered by NAPA's repair warranty, Jim's Auto wanted me to keep the bad alternator as a proof to NAPA, and agreed to refund me for it if I return it to them. After I took the car back, and drove it the next day, I found a couple of problems: 1. The connection on battery negative post was so loose that I can using one finger to lift the cable off the post. 2. A wire connector to the washer fluid reservoir was not connected back so washer fluid won't come out. The connector was just hanging down there and if you keel down you can see it from outside. 3. There was a very obvious rubbing noise on front passenger side, but unfortunately only noticeable at low speed because otherwise the road noise would hide it. It turned out that the inner wheel fender piece and the bottom cover was all hanging completely loose, rubbing the wheel. Since I drove about 1 hour on highway, a big portion was rubbed off the inner fender and created a big hole. So I brough it back to them. Shortly after I explained to their technician who did the job, he claimed that I was lying and it must be me that caused it loose and he used F word on me. We both went into the shop and I talked to Jim, who asked the technician to take care of customer request. I understand that mistakes happens, so I am willing to accept all these. When I took back the car from them again, I also returned the bad alternator to them. They wrote me a $75 check for refund. I asked them: was sales tax charged on this $75? If yes, that part should be refunded as well. Without anything thinking, they said "no, sales tax was not charged on it". I went home and checked, they did charge sales tax. So today in the morning, I called them, and Jim answered: "just take that from the $100 credit I gave you on the alternator". And the tone from his is just so disgusting. At that point, I knew there was no point arguing. I didn't want to deal with them again. I already knew the $100 discount there, but they also charged me $75 for diagnosis. I am perfectly fine with charging for diagnosis, but only if you have included it in your quote. It wasn't! The total charge I got is still about $10+/- inline with the initial quote, so I really don't consider myself received any actual "discount". Since this was a repair covered by NAPA, I gave them NAPA's claim #. They said they called NAPA and was told it won't be covered. I called NAPA and NAPA guy said this was very weird, they definitely cover it, and their records don't show any calls from any repair shop. I don't know who I should trust on this. All I know was that now NAPA has agreed to cover this repair after I submitted invoice to them. Summary: Their technician used F word on me and said he won't do lousy job like that, well look what he has missed and how I could believe him: 1. Very loose battery negative cable 2. Washer fluid reservoir connector not connected and hanging loose, can been seen from outside 3. added steering fluid almost one inch higher than max line! (reservoir needs to be moved/removed in order to take alternator out, hence the need to refill). I found this out today 4. The top bolt used to secure the washer fluid reservoir was not put back. (I found out today). 5. Multiple places of the inner fender and bottom cover should have been fastened but were all missed! He said I must have drove my car on a curb to cause everything loose! How could that caused inner wheelwell fender fastener/ziptie gone! (there was zip ties). And with them feel they are entitled to keep the 10% sales tax in their pocket that should have been refunded to me for the returned core charge! And the tone that Jim had when telling me "just take that tax from the $100 credit I gave you" is just simply disgusting! And they didn't even hesitate for one second telling me sales tax was not charged for core charge! read more

Honest shop, my young daughters car broke down close by and they thought it was the alternator. They came to her and gave her a jump so she could drive it to the shop. ( free of charge ) Then found it to be just the belt. Thanks guys for being honest you could of easily charged her for a alternator ( but didn't ) I will bring my other cars to you. Thanks !!! I've used Jim on and off for a few years but my most recent experience will make me a customer forever. I took my Honda in with a nerve racking death rattle in the left wheel well. I told Jim I suspected it was the CV joint. (I know very little about cars) I also knew that my brakes were long overdue. I was anticipating $800+ in work. Jim called me after I dropped it off and told me it was a caliper problem in the wheel well, not a CV joint, and that my brakes were paper thin but the brake rotors were salvagable. Rather than charging me significant more to do the rotors and replace a CV joint,and I would have been none the wiser, which would have cost an arm and a leg more, Jim was honest and did what needed to be done. This was a consistent experience of me with Jim : honest and good work. read more

When I was younger, I spent a couple of years working at a parking garage that also had an auto repair shop, so I learned a LOT about how auto repair shops work (or don't). For years I had been jumping from one shop to the next trying to find a place that is HONEST and fixes my car right without trying to unnecessarily "upsell" me. My cousin recommended Jim's several years ago, and I've been taking my cars there ever since. Jim is always friendly, polite, and honest. They have never once tried to sell me parts or services I don't need, and I've never had to take my car back to get something re-done because it wasn't fixed right in the first place. The only problem with Jim's is that they are so good and their customers are so loyal that it's getting hard to get my car in for work, because they are so incredibly busy. read more

Jim's mechanics are great-but Jim is a complete jack ass. I have never met a more unprofessional man in all my life. He treated me like complete crap. He constantly complained about how he was so busy he couldn't think (what business owner dislikes being busy??) and he complained about having to fix my car within earshot of myself AND his other customers. We were referred to Jim's Automotive by a well trusted co-worker. He and his parents have used Jim's for over 15 years. Jim took a look at our vehicle himself - he called me and thoroughly explained my issues (some I knew of - some I had suspicions of ) and then gave me options for new or re-manufactured - but still warrantied- parts. Jim then called my husband and explained this all to him as well. I was quite sure I wasn't going to correctly relay all this info to my hubby. Altogether Jim spent over 30 minutes talking with us both - explaining our options and scheduling service. As promised, our vehicle was done on time - he even cut over $150 off our bill - since they completed the work in less time than estimated. Since then we have brought both vehicles to Jim. He and his team have replaced a clutch in one car and installed a blower to our heater in the other. Replacing belts where needed (each car had over 100k miles and needed some TLC) and setting up reminders for items to take care of at our next oil change. We no longer take our vehicles for "Quick-Lube Service". Jim's is the ONLY place we will bring our vehicles. Jim has always been very courteous and polite - and he is a BUSY man, but always takes the time to answer our questions. Their pricing is very fair - it may not always be the cheapest you could find - but the care they take and proficiency in their trade makes it worth every penny. read more

This is my first Yelp review. That's how bad my experience was. Jim and his secretary (Jerry, her name was it?) were VERY unprofessional in my opinion. Jim didn't like the fact that I caught him in (several) lies, and Jerry was the peanut gallery in the back making it very clear how much she disliked me. 9:30AM I call and ask if I stopped by would they be able to fix the ABS in my car because the indicator light was on. I was told that at the very least they could diagnose the problem, but fixing it may require some time depending on the source of the problem. I made it very clear that my ONLY requirement was that I needed the car back by 4pm because I had to make it to an appointment by 5:30 in Seattle (traffic is super bad this week because of I-90 being reduced down to 1 lane.) I was reassured (via phone) that the car would be diagnosed and ready for pick up by 4pm. Still, I REITERATED the fact that I would need to have the car ready by 4, once again because I had to make an appointment, and that if they couldn't do it, it was really okay and I'd just find somewhere else, because once again, I NEEDED MY CAR BY 4. ~9:40AM, I dropped the car off with Jim. I, for a third time, reiterated the importance of having the car ready by 4PM and how I really didn't mind going elsewhere if they couldn't promise it'd be ready. I was told there'd be "no problem" and they'd call me in about 2 hours with a status update on the diagnosis and perhaps a time estimation on the time to fix it. 4PM *I* call Jim. Jim says my car is "in the air right now" and they "haven't diagnosed the problem yet." Jim claimed they still had to do 3 or so more tests and they could give me a call at 4:30 to let me know how much longer it'd be. Disappointed, I said okay, realizing it didn't look like I'd be making my appointment. 4:30PM, I call back and Jerry answers. She says they're just now "putting the tires back on and to come on over." 4:45PM I arrive to pick up the car. Jim seemed confused why I was upset that I had to miss my appointment. He accused me of the one who was late. I repeat the phone conversation I HAD JUST HAD WITH HIM - not even an hour ago! I asked how could it have been ready if it "was still in the air." Caught in a lie, Jim says it was done at 4:05, "on time." That response frustrated me for several reasons. First, if that was actually true, why couldn't his secretary, Jerry, call me back to let me know my car was ready? I think I made it very clear I needed the car ASAP. If she had enough spare time to mock customers, I think she'd have enough spare time to let a customer that their car was ready. Second, if my car was ready at 4:05, why were they JUST putting the wheels back on at 4:30? Third, 4:05 != 4:00. (But honestly, I would have understood if it was only 5 minutes late.) The cherry on the cake was that while I'm talking with Jim at the register, Jerry is in the background moaning and groaning at everything I say, really spicing up the conversation with all of her "ohhhh my god"(s). Meanwhile, another mechanic is threatening me to "shut it" and "watch myself." Lastly, I will give them the benefit of the doubt since I didn't have an appointment. However, I thought I had clarified I had understood and if they were too busy that was okay. I asked no less than 4 times (and was reassured each time) if the car would be ready by 4PM. read more

Absolutely awsome! I have brought my cars here for years. Usually I am under alot of stress seeing my car go on a wrecker and hauled off but I know Jim and his family of mechanics are going to bring my jutebox on wheels back to life. The staff is well trained and experienced in vintage Detroit motors and the new motors full of computers and sensors. My old damaged parts were set aside for me to see and Jim and his staff always are very patient explaining to me if, how and why, how much, how long. I always feel welcome and valued. The shop is clean and tidy which to me shows pride of craftsmanship. The office is busy, they do alot of business, but are always calm, proficient and schedule me in. Last time I went was for major repairs, my entire car was cared for down to fixing the blinker. This is my single mother mom car and I usually collaborate with enterprise rental car which is nearby and offers pick up and drop off to Jim's shop. I prefer to send my car to Jim for repair versus dealing with the local new car salesmens or dealership "service" departments. Never trust a mechanic with clean hands, trust your family car, loved hot rod, teenagers first car, to Jim's Automotive PERFORMANCE. read more

While I probably should give Jim's automotive four stars because the work takes longer than I am used to, it is what you get when you are a place in demand. I have had our family cars in Jim's shop a few times and he always gets it right the first time in our experience. Plus, he seems to come out on or below the estimate. I have seen Jim get frustrated with all the chaos first thing in the morning, but by the afternoon, he was all smiles. Very nice and honest guy and he knows his stuff. Jim's automotive in Redmond is a very bad place to take your car. I had a problem with my car starting and I decided to take it to Jim's cause I had heard good things about them. So it took them over a week to fix my car which I wasn't happy about. When I finally got to pick up my car Jim said that my car "was fixed and that it shouldn't be giving my anymore problems with starting". But a few days later my car wouldn't start again and I had to take it back to Jim's so they could fix it. But when I got there i decided to tell Jim that I wasn't happy with the way my car was still having problems. I told him that I wanted them to just figure out what the problem was and tell me. I didn't want them to try to fix it cuz I was too frustrated with the lack of work they did on my car before. But for some reason they replaced a part that was old and instead of listening to me they told me that they replaced a part and they had the nerve to charge me for it!! I was so mad cuz I specifically told them I didn't want them to fix it unless they were willing to do it for free since they were supposed to fix it the first time. I had to pay over $800 to those idiots. It was a total rip off and a waste of time. Jim is just another incredibly dishonest mechanic and I don't think anyone should waste their time taking their car to him. read more
