The store associate of Philippine/Asian ethnicity asked for my receipt. I told her that my package didn't come with a receipt so I pulled out my email receipt on my phone and showed her. She said my package did come with a receipt and she basically accused me of lying. I let it go and showed her the barcode on my phone. She said "if you had the receipt, I wouldn't need to see your phone." Then she had trouble making the return because the tag on the coat didn't have a size code. She said "mango always makes things so difficult and asked if I can ship/return to warehouse." I said no because I physically made the trip to your store to make the return so I would like it to be processed. Then another sales associate of Caucasian decent came and assisted. I suggested to both of them to call their customer service to get that size code. They asked me to do it; I said absolutely not because it's not my responsibility. Your return policy clearly indicated that I can return online purchases at the store. So I told them it is their responsibility to obtain the info needed to process my return. She finally made the call and got the size code to process the return. I don't know why the sales associates are so incompetent that I needed to advise them to call customer service to get the size code. And instead of apologizing to me for making me wait; they told me call their customer service. Throughout the process, my tone was very polite yet the Asian associate was incredibly rude. I asked the other associate for her name and she wouldn't disclose her name. And to make matters even worse, my return didn't get processed! Thank goodness I kept the return receipt she gave me. I contacted customer service and emailed a picture of my receipt to get my return processed.

Madewell stores are few and far-between, so seizing the opportunity to actually see, feel and try things on before purchasing rather than wait for UPS to deliver them is ideal. They also make great shoes, belts and accessories, not to mention tops and dresses. I was looking for a particular item... no one even tried to locate the pants ... no one offered me a dressing room with an arm full of items I had to ask. I love Chico's clothes and have a closet full of fabulous outfits that will last for years. The classic style or even the trending items will last forever. I just found that this store isn't what is considered Chico's standard of customer service. But this shop has a few issues that keep me from being completely over the top in love. First, the inventory is totally unpredictable. One week I can go in and get a gorgeous gown for a fancy event, and then the next week all I can find are hot neon t-shirts with stupid phrases. I've seen one rack of dresses there for over a month, but if I want something I know just came out in the lookbook, I have a better chance finding it online. The sales are great but also mean you have to time your shopping since you would be out of pocket a whole lotta cash if you pay full price. Its easy to never pay full if you have any wiggle room for your purchases.
