Read the small print! Parts are covered for 10 except for the parts that fail. I have new units installed 2.5 years ago and already had a non covered part fail plus because I missed one service call because we don't live in the home full time maintenance agreement was not offered to cover repairs. Find a company you can trust. Looked in the attic where heating units were installed and the installation was a mess. I will be finding a new company for all of my future service. Tony service technician was very good. But having good employees working for a company that has policies that do not support them makes the company untrustworthy. UPDATE: After this review the manager called to let me know, he reviewed my invoice and the $278 part was covered under my warranty. He has refunded me that amount. These guys are a fraud. They came to my house to check on my AC only to remove wire to the capacitor and remove Bulb sensor so my AC doesnt work and ill be forced to get a new one. I got a second opinion and the other company was in shock that these items were left the way they were. My house stopped blowing cold air. I immediately called FAHW(my home warranty company) to start a claim. Anthem was assigned to work my claim. After knowing who my contractor was, I immediately did my own research and called the company myself to try and schedule an appointment due to my exigent situation. Anthem was able to schedule my appointment in a timely manner. Angel came out to diagnose my problem and concluded my king valves were leaking and pretty much all of my r-22 refrigerant had leaked out. Anthem immediately contacted my home warranty company and ordered the needed parts knowing that they were back ordered(like a lot of HVAC parts right now). My parts took about two weeks to come in. I had to reach out the day I was told my parts would arrive and try to schedule another appointment for the parts to be installed. I should not have had to reach out to ask and see if my parts were in, but I'm leaving a 5 star review still and not a 4 star like I was going to, because when I texted the phone number given to me to communicate with Anthem, Larry immediately reached out and called me to answer my questions and any concerns I had. My appointment was made and Kevon came out to install the parts. Kevon called me the morning of to let me know the time frame which he would arrive (I really appreciated the clear communication especially being that I had to take a day off of work to get this done). Kevon was very respectful, and answered all my questions I had about what he was doing for the day. He got the job done all by himself and in a timely manner and my AC was blowing cold air again. Kevon also let me know some concerns he saw with my outside AC condenser due to its age and how it was installed in my house , whenever that was. The heater igniter failed while we were on vacation in mid- January which meant we returned at night to a very cold home and no heat. Anthem was the warranty contractor assigned to me. They called promptly the following morning, and were able to send someone the same day (for a fee of course). Edgar was a pro, very knowledgeable and personable. I had nearly an identical experience as reviewer Greg F. below. I went through my home warranty company, American Home Shield, for an AC repair request. The contractor was Anthem Mechanical and the tech came out to the house. My husband met him, showed him the unit and the tech tried to get my husband to work with Anthem directly rather than go through the home warranty company - super shady incident #1. He said no, we will continue with our service request through AHS which we've paid for. It took nearly a week to hear back from American Home Shield, at which we were practically roasting alive upstairs with no AC. When we got the estimate American Home Shield said the compressor needed to be replaced. We then got the repair estimate from Anthem who said they could replace the compressor but then hit us with a ton of ridiculous and excessive charges totally nearly $3000 including $1350 for 10 pounds of refrigerant, $195 to repair an "electrical line," a charge of $100 for insulation of the line, $400 for some trumped up "permit" fee, and $650 for another trumped up fee for a supposed "code violation" - super shady incident #2. I then spoke with two different HVAC companies to ask about this and they both said that these fees are all nonsense and designed to get the homeowner to pay the AC company to help offset what they're not getting paid by the home warranty company. Unbelievable! So Anthem called today to inquire as to whether or not we would move forward, and I said absolutely not. I do not appreciate their shady business practices of trying to lure us away from the very company hiring them in the first place. I told him that I also did not appreciate receiving two unsolicited estimates to replace the compressor - super shady incident #3. We did not ask for this and it is not appropriate for them to send, no matter what the owner of the company says about customers being "mad" that they do not get those estimates automatically. Company estimates should be sent only when asked for and not sent unsolicited. I then asked the representative to cancel our request and told him we would be handling the repair ourselves and not paying them nearly $3000 of made up fees to do a job that should be paid for by the warranty company and not the consumer. After installing a complete AC unit and furnace installed a few years ago, we signed up for a maintenance agreement for the new unit and the evaporative cooler. When we noticed some leakage in the ceiling from the cooler, we called for an inspection. They couldn't tell us where the leak came from - two times! Just before that, the old water pump at the furnace blower went out and caused some interior damage to the sheetrock before they could fix it. It was old and should have been replaced with the new unit. After talking to a service representative and sending photos of the damage, there was NO response. Asked again a few weeks later; NO response. Talked to someone around Christmas time to ask about someone coming to asses the damage; NO response! All I can do now is leave this terrible review of Anthem Mechanical and consider a small claims court plus drop the service agreement. We were assigned to Anthem thru our home owner's policy with American Home Shield (AHS). We've worked with them several times now and they have always been a good company with quality service. Today I'm writing about our most recent experience with the technician Arturo Calderon. He was so knowledgeable and helpful throughout the process of checking our HVAC and heating system, and making sure our Nest thermostat worked properly. (The battery was draining quickly and it needed to have the C line properly connected.) He really went above and beyond to help us, answered all questions and left us very satisfied customers. A/C went out Saturday night (6/11/2022). Contacted American Home Shield (AHS) to schedule expedited weekend service. First AHS assigned the job to Athem Mechanical. I contacted Athem that morning and they wanted to charge me $128.00 on top of my $75 deductible. Unsatisfied with Athem's assertion that they can charge me an additional "weekend" fee on top of my insurance deductible, I contacted AHS who confirmed that companies they contract with should not be charging customers that fee. AHS reassigned the job to GIbson air and thank god they did. Gibson Air's owner, Steven personally contacted me and immediately responded driving an hour to assist his staff during a peak service period during 113 degree temps to service our unit. Gibson Air repaired my unit and didn't take one penny of my money, stating to me that AHS pays him for the service call. Buyer beware when doing business with Anthem Mechanical. It's a real shame because Anthem installed this unit 5 years ago and this weekends experience solidified that I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH ANTHEM EVER AGAIN. Beware of Anthem Mechanical. I called them to do a service pre summer check up. My a/c was working perfectly...just a preventaive service. Arturo came out and said our main unit was not working properly. If it needed freon would be $250 per pound or better still a new unit for around $8000. As all seemed well to me I told him I would think about it. The next day I turned on the AC and lo and behold...it was not cooling!!!! I called a recommended company to check the system. It was totally empty of freon with the cap left disconnected. Coincidence...heck no..a case of sabotage. I had to buy 6 lbs of freon for less that half of what Anthem quoted. I live in the So. Ca. desert, and a few weeks ago my A/C crashed just ahead of our first heat wave so I couldn't delay getting it repaired or replaced. My first call was to General A/c & Plumbing with whom I had a service contract. Their technician found an irreparable leak in the evaporator coil and estimated a replacement would run about $7500. Considering the age and condition of my system, he recommended, and I agreed, that I should do a total upgrade. General sent out an estimator who quoted me $15,000/plus to replace my existing 5-ton, 14 SEER system. I live on a fixed income and would have to get a loan from my credit union so, before I committed to General, I wanted to get a couple of more bids. I could only find two HVAC contractors who service the Salton City area. The first one had a $150 fee just for an on-site estimate so I ruled them out. The second option was Anthem. Unlike most of the HVAC companies I looked at online, Anthem posted detailed info about each of the systems they offered along with the all-inclusive price. They had a 5-ton, 16 SEER system with a warranty advertised for $7500 flat including installation. When I called Anthem I spoke with Andrew Aronson who confirmed the system was available at the advertised price but before we struck a deal, an installer would have to come out to ascertain that the system I wanted would work for me and fit in the existing space. That happened the following day and all was good to go. I called Andrew and committed. The next morning the installers, Jesus and Miguel showed up with my new system and by 1 pm, it was installed, up and running. With General, I would have expected some unforeseen issues that would have cost me more money to fix but that didn't happen with Anthem. The technicians explained everything I needed to know about my new HVAC unit and cleared away the remnants of my old system. I gave them a check for $7500, and the deal was done. My new system works like a charm and I couldn't be more pleased with the entire process from my first chat with Andrew to giving them my check. All for less than half the price General Air wanted for a lesser system. read more

Horrible service, My heater is not working and Anthem Mechanical was called by my home warranty, they were quick to charge for the service call up front, well, when the tech got there he decided to a jimmy rigg a bypass to the fan, witch cause the heater and the AC to be on at the same time, I immediately called the tech back but said I would have to call the office.... well i called and called the office and no one answered or called back, it was a bit warm that day I needed to have the AC on but the house got up to 82 degrees when the AC was on, until this day no one has called e-mailed or tried to reach out, I had to call another company to come out and un-do the bypass they made read more

I had exactly one day between renters to inspect and service a house with 3 AC systems. The Anthem tech was on time and got right to it. He advised that one system needed a new capacitor, something I have replaced myself before, and would have if there had been additional time. He quoted me an astounding and unreasonable price of $386.50 when the part needed usually costs $40-60. When I pressed him about why so expensive, he said there was nothing he could do about it, tacitly indicating that he knew I was being ripped off. If I had placed a new home warranty service call for $100 deductible, it would have been replaced for just that cost. Anthem, this is plainly a bad business practice and I would appreciate a refund of $286.50. Response to Anthem's message: Hello Mike S. I do appreciate the response. I was already paying for the inspection of service of 3 systems @$225, arranged by AHS, with no choice of providers possible. As the AHS service email describes, if an issue is discovered that is not covered during the maintenance call, I am able to arrange a covered service call at the contract cost ($100). Due to occupancy timing of this property, it was not possible to wait the likely 3 weeks to get another appointment. I do not purchase mechanical supplies such as capacitors through Amazon for my rental properties, instead through APE, a professional parts distributor in Santa Rosa. I also do not seek the cheapest repairs out there because I've seen what you get with that. Instead, I chose to hire providers who reliably provide honest and fair service/products. In June/July 2020 I purchased a brand new unit from Anthem so I have stayed with them to keep up on the maintenance. There has been no issues. Response time is great. They are more tech savvy then others. You receive a text message of the person who is coming out for the appointment so you know ahead of time. They make it easy to schedule or change appointments through text messaging and the reminders are great too. They haven't sent anyone out that I haven't liked. They all are detailed oriented, good at explanation and professional. I would recommend Anthem to anyone look for a good AC company out in the Coachella Valley. read more

After 2 years of my furnace not being used, I turned it on the other day and it made a horrible grinding noise. I attempted to fix it myself... but the grinding noise turned into a rattling noise, like there was something loose in the motor. I would like to confirm the bad reports that Anthem has a contract with American Home Shield Warranty Co. My a/c suddenly quit one day when it was 100 degrees. It worked intermittently. The technician came out a week later and told me he couldn't find anything wrong. It was still going off and on randomly so I called again and said something is wrong come fix it please. Anthem was going to try to get authorization from the Warranty Co. to fix the motor that he suspected was going out. The motor part was under the house and AHS Warranty Co. doesn't cover anything inaccessible. (Of course they tried to get Me to replace the entire unit.) First Anthem called with a price of $7,500. When I explained I'm a disabled senior and couldn't afford it he called back later with a price of $5,800. I still couldn't afford it. The third call was that for $680.00 they would pill the unit out from under the house and replace the motor. My choice was limited so I agreed. They sent two young men out about a week later. The guys put the motor in wrong, crossed some wires and blew the new motor, something that resulted in NO POWER on the entire block! I wasn't home at the time because it was too hot and asked the technician to call Me when it was fixed. He called back to say the motor didn't fit, but said nothing about the power being off. I called the supervisor Larry B. and he came out to turn My electricity back on and it was then he realized the whole block was out. A maintenance man from my resort came and reset it. I had to go to a hotel that night and for a total of 2 nights. The technicians tore off the molding on the side of My house and just left it looking trashy, along with what it looked like the beat My poor old air conditioning unit up! I asked Larry what was next, he said they had put in a request to AHS to replace the unit. The next day I called to ask what was going on and I got no response. So I called American Home Shield to find out the status and they said they hadn't received a request from Anthem to fix it. I called around and was Lucky to find Brian from Airworks who understood My problem and made it a priority to get My A/c unit working ASAP. Of course I paid out of pocket but it was fixed by him installing a motor properly. In the meantime It's been a month since first calling Anthem and nothing is resolved between American Home Shield warranty or Anthem. And praying this motor will last until I get a replacement unit. Anthem came out as contracted from home warranty for repair. We were booked out 3 weeks for technician to come and check our A/C as it wasn't cooling our house properly. When tech arrived he struggled to get the outside unit open attached his meter/gauge and informed me coolant level was good, but the coils were very very dirty as confirmed from pics he took. Advised that it would be $570 to take apart the outdoor unit to clean the coils. He looked up in the intake ductwork and said ductwork needed to be cleaned estimate for thorough ductwork cleaning $1215. He only popped his head into the attic and stated we had a good system, but didn't go into the attic to check anything, but quoted us another $315 to clean the evaporator coils. He didn't even check on the air filter in the unit in the attic. And after my concern about these maintenance costs the tech, after hearing I had allergies was happy to tell me about their air purifying system at about $2K and they offer financing. Lots of upselling and nothing done to our A/C system. He also eluded to some parts in the outside unit he would recommend replacing to avoid system breaking down since it was older and they could do it directly and mentioned excessive lead times from weeks to months for home warranty to replace parts. We ended up going into attic ourselves and replaced very dirty air filter after talking to another A/C repair company and them explaining over the phone some possible problems with it not cooling efficiently and electric bill skyrocketing and we have scheduled a tuneup/maintenance with this other company. read more

I recently bought a home in Desert Hot Springs and was given a home warranty with AHS by my realtor as a "Gift with purchase". AHS offers a seasonal tune-up for either heating or AC depending on the season. I like to have my units checked out in the fall and spring but since a realtor purchased the AHS warranty there is a $75.00 service fee that would have been waived if I had bought the policy myself. I didn't really understand that aspect, but I wanted the bi-annual service so decided to go directly to Anthem Mechanical and use that $75.00 toward the annual cost. Angel arrived on time and was very polite and professional. He was here for about an hour and I feel he did a very thorough review of my heating system. when he was done he gave me the diagnosis of my dual systems and I got a thumbs up with one warning for a motor that is registering on the high end for that particular part but not over the max and to just "keep an eye on it". He said my systems are working fine so not a current worry. He changed my filters and put everything back neatly and left everything the way he found it. It was very refreshing to have such a polite, professional & clean/neat contractor in my home. I have read a fair amount of the reviews here on Yelp (5's and 1's mostly). In my opinion, the 1's seem to be specific to the AHS warranty since Anthem Mechanical is the company AHS contracts with for the Coachella Valley and those issues appear to be directly affected by AHS rules. Since I dealt with Anthem Mechanical directly I did not have the experience of going thru a 3rd party (AHS). Anyway, I would definitely recommend this company based on my experience. Looking forward to the Spring Tune-Up, I hope the AC gets as great a report card as the heating as they seem to be working just fine as well! read more

Based upon my experience I would NEVER use this Company We have a home warranty and when we had a problem with our air-conditioner the home warranty co (Amer Home Shield) sent this company to fix our problem. The first time they came out was 5/22/17. They fixed the air conditioner and then on July 17th we had the same problem with the AC. Again Anthem came out. Upon arrival the rep said someone had been "foolin" around the AC. I said No, we had a home warranty and they were the only company that worked on the init. At the end of the second call, the tech said he used 2 lbs of refig. & the cost would be $200. I questioned why they used refrig when they didnt use any the first time and they were the only ones in the unit. The tech said. Well if you dont want to pay Im leaving. Then the problem happened again for a third time but Anthem wouldnt fulfill the required Home warranty 60 day remedy unless I agreed to pa for the $200 refrig. I offerred to pay by CC but they said they would have t pay a 3% cc fee. I paid them instead by check. I then called Amer Home Shield and a Mgr suggested I put a stop payment on the check as the 2nd and 3rd call were in the 60 day window and they hadnt used rerig on the first call. Then I had a 4th problem with the same AC unit and called Amer Home Shield and they sent out Anthem to fix the problem for the 4th time. (the 3rd and 4th time, the same tech said Oops I forgot to connect a wire, & I forgot to tighten a brass fitting". the on Aug 23 I received a call from Mike at Anthem saying he was calling to collect the $200. I explained to him the above . I told him that Amer Home Shield had advised me t put a stop payment on check and he said Amer Home Shield told him they never advise a property owner to put a stop payment out (which is a lie, they did tell me to do so). End of long story is that I paid Anthem on 8/23 out of duress. But AI will never use them again or allow them at my home as I consider they are not only incompetent (4 times for a problem with the same AC unit ( and they were the only ones working on the unit) and I feel they are totally untrustworthy. Same for American Home Shield. Not worth the money I have paid for several years to Amer Home Shield and they use suspect repair providers. read more

It is hard to get through the girls who answer the phone. They didn't give him my numerous messages & were dismissive to me... but once I found a way to reach him... he understood my issues, reviewed a previous report I had and was very cooperative and moved forward accordingly. Anthem Mechanical (note not HVAC company) came to my home through my home warranty company, on Friday in July. As my home warranty company was still sending other technicians to resolve what had been my AC being out in the desert for over two weeks. When the technician arrived, he indicated my Compressor was shot, but through my home warranty, I had just had it replaced two months prior. The technician assured me they could install a new HVAC system and have it all fixed and up and running the following week, Wednesday. I initialed an electric screen to confirm the appointment. On Monday, prior to the install, I thought it strange that they went around the home warranty company, to sell me a new system and had not filed a report to the home warranty company and I called them, voicing my concern and suggesting they not do the install, which was going to cost me over 11k. I said, that two other technicians indicated electrical issues but upon a return phone call from a smooth talking manager, named Andrew, who slickly rebutted all my objections, the fact that there were unknowns, their reviews were bad, the cost was high, etc. I acquiesced. On Wednesday they came as promised, but who wouldnt for an 11k job? They installed everything and as I kept checking I saw, they were not getting it working. Then in the afternoon I had meetings and when I got back to my home, they were gone. They had not gotten it working, they told me they then thought it was the thermostat, at which point, I lost it. I had suggested the Thermostat all along, so they then replaced the Nest one I had with some cheap piece of crap, and they still didnt get it working and they just left. However, not without a call immediately upon my return and her demanding the 11k. I said, not until this is completely fixed and up and running. They called me back but when I would return the call to get their help, they never answered. I was on week 3 of no AC. I called in my own private electricians since the Home warranty company said, they were told the problem was outside and was not something they covered. $500 later, lost wages and lost rent revenue, they resolved the problem and halleluia the system finally started blowing cold air. I wanted to sue them, but they beat me to it and are now suing me for 3 times the amount of the system, they put a lien on my property and are taking me to court for non-payement and lying about me wanting free air and that they had a contract. I am a 62 year old, single women, and a Project Manager for the State. I don't intend to let this go as these people prey on those who they think they can get away with being less than honorable. Not to mention, what about the Home Warranty company that gives them business that they trash talked and took the business away from? The Home Warranty company and Anthem are both at fault and now I have to spend money to prove it. read more

It took a week to get an appointment with these guys which is not uncommon I can understand that but he showed up and said my unit was frozen up and couldn't do a diagnostics on it so I had to wait another week for an appointment and he came out and locate the part I needed it to take a few days to get it waited another week to came out to install it it's the wrong part now I will probably have to wait another week for an appointment, they did not understand I have CHF and I got to stay out of extreme heat yes been up to 106° here, I have a home shield warranty for my home so I have to stay with them or buy a new unit myself. Beware! My AC went bad mid July, I called my insurance company and they Amthem to diagnose the problem. When they came there was an electrical outage. They came back a week later and their tech saw that the problem was that the compressor who went bad. All is well until they submitted their report to my home insurance. They used the power outage as an excuse to the compressor going bad when it actually had nothing to do with the outage! The AC wasn't working anymore before we even called them! Since it was Anthem who 5 years ago installed my AC unit and maybe it's still under warranty therefore they are trying to use the outage which is post issue to not e responsible or to charge more money than the insurance will allow them!! This is unacceptable! And you can't speak with anyone other than the employees. If the owner doesn't call me and or correct this fake of a report I will use every legal means to make sure that they don't get away with this. read more

I used Anthem Mechanical with a maintenance contact for a few years. They came out to do an air condition check and told me that I need a new coil because most of the freon has leaked out. They sent me a quote last July for $3,000 for the same thing. The quote I received a few weeks ago in April ,23 was $4500. I received 4 other quotes and their quote was outrageous. I was able to get it done by a company in Palm desert for $2,000 less. The other thing is they need called me back to see if I wanted the job done by them. I would never use them again. Hi Michael, I recently filed a claim back in November with my Home Warranty for my AC Unit and Heating unit not turning on. When your tech came out to see the issues he submitted a report to my warranty for the condensate pump for the heating. I never saw a report for the A/C and when the tech was out here he advised my husband the visit was for heating only so I contacted my warranty and i told them the the AC part of the claim was not addressed, my warranty then contacted your office and was told that the tech didnt check the ac unit because they stated the problem was the condensate pump. I was advised by my warranty that I had to change the part your company advised me to change in order for me to move forward with the claim. I went ahead and contracted your company for the repair as well as maintenance. I had your tech George come out and fix the condensate pump and do the winter/fall service and he assured me the job had been complete and done correctly I also asked if my heater and ac would both work since he only checked the heating he stated the cooling would need to be checked until the summer service which is done around April/May and they would contact me to make the service appointment. Later that night we tried to turn on the heater and it did not work. I called your company back and you guys sent out Edgar who is a senior tech, he stated George did his job incorrectly and that could've caused my entire system to not work. Edgar was able to fix the problem and again when i asked about the AC working he also advised me they would review it during summer service. It is now end of April and i have not received any calls for scheduling. I called in to follow up and i was told that i was the one that had to call in i told the girl that was not what i was informed she continued to stated i mustve not understood she also stated that she only saw my claim for heating which was also not the case, she then told me they could not come out unless my unit was working and that i had to turn it on to check even tho i told her the tech told me they would be checking it at time of service, she was being very rude and told me i would have to make a new service if it wasnt working which i was extremely confused about because that is why i paid for the pump for. I told her i would check the unit and call back, after turning on my ac unit i noticed now the unit was heating my home which went from 77-79. I called back and told another girl by the name of Lilybelle the issue she then told me in a rude tone that i had to request new service with them or my warranty again i told her why did i have to pay again if i paid for the service she continued being rude so i asked to speak with a manager, she then transferred me to Andrew who stated was the service manager, i explained to him what was going on and he told me the information the first girl i spoke with was incorrect that Anthem should have been the one to reach out to schedule summer service and he apologized for the incorrect information, i then told him that the tech never checked my ac unit he explained to me that during Winter they do not check the ac units because of cold temperature, and he stated i would have to pay for them to come out and check out the issue due to it being such a long time which i also did not understand because your company should have checked it when it was fixed and techs advised it couldn't be done until Summer service. I am very fustrated because i dont believe it is fair that i have to pay for a service and repair i already paid for, if anthem wouldve done their job and scheduled the summer service to come check the AC would i have to have paid? No, because that was part of the job Anthem had to do. Also if the condensate pump was said to be the issue why with it being replaced is it not only not working which was the initial problem but why is the ac unit now heating my house? Why do i have to pay for work that needed to be done in the first place during the Summer service as both techs advised they would do. This has been terrible customer service i only went with your company because of my home warranty, and i paid for the services that i am calling about now so i am very confused as to why your company will not come out and review what happened with what your techs advised me to repair at no cost. read more
