Disclaimer: i have the ugliest feet ever. i hate them and if you happen to see them, well, our relationship (love/ hate/ or in between) has gone to a new level. I think these past couple of months has yielded the ugliest state-of-feet ever (in the history of the world!!), with both my large toenails cracking off. Bleagh! Vicky made them beautiful with an oh so relaxing pedicure ($30) which included added faux nails. Fake nails cost $10/ each, but since I did two, she dropped the price down to $15 together. She totally smoothed the fakies out so that they were actually indistinguishable from my nail; definitely not your standard nail salon where they have a thick ugly fake nail that is clearly fake. Actually, I called Axxium back in February because of my hideous feet situation and Vicky was super accommodating, letting me imsg her a photo of my feet/ making non greedy suggestions for how I should let my nails grow back naturally/ without covering them up/ inviting all sorts of infections. Making an appointment was a breeze, and the salon itself is beautiful. Large, airy, with 5 nail stations and 4 massage chair pedi stations... this is by far my nail salon favourite in Vancouver. WOW! I had the pleasure of having Emily work on my nails. She was very professional and pleasant. When she accidently ripped one of my cuticles too roughly and my finger started to bleed, she immediately apologized, sanitized, and closed the wound. It wasn't a big deal for me to bleed a little but that reaction made me feel very confident in their sanitation. They have an extensive selection of gel colors (even thermo gel! How cool is that?) I think it's worth to note that you can select up to 5 colors for your manicure and they don't charge extra! Most other nail salons would nickel and dime you to death! Koodos. I also appreciated that Emily informed me how much my bows are going to cost prior to installation. I mean other salons would just put it on for you and who knows if there's a little surprise waiting for you on the bill? Excellent value for the professionalism that you get. I had shellac removal (free with manicure), gel manicure, and 2 bows for a total of $48 including tax. Let's see how long these nails will last me, I'll definitely be back! Side note: There's no designated parking stalls here, only street parking is available, go early to find spots! read more

A 3 star experience, not a hint more. I tried this place for nails based on a friend's suggestion as my usual nail technician wasn't around. The lady that did my nails was a reasonably friendly young woman that did a reasonable job. Pedicure was decent (3.5/5), gel manicure was average (2.5/5) - it was obvious she was just doing what she was instructed, nothing more. The atmosphere in this nail place seemed a little bit tense to me: there was a woman that looked to be of Asian descent that might have been an owner/manager, who to me seemed to think she "knew everything" so customer should deign to question her - I'm glad I didn't have her doing my nails. Wasn't bad since I didn't end up with any cuts, nail infections or other problems from the services I had, I always feel so bad for people that have those terrible experiences. But not somewhere I'd go out of my way to return to, the atmosphere really wasn't something I enjoyed. read more

I felt compelled to say something after reading that others are having the same issues with Vicky. Don't waste your time going here. It will just be a matter of time before she flys off the handle at you too. She has no concept of how to treat customers. She is very disrespectful, rude, unprofessional and makes people feel uneasy. I was humiliated and embarrassed beyond belief when she told me not to bother coming back again - all because I couldn't find parking making me 5 minutes late for my appointment. So an update, I had an appointment for 5pm and was delayed at work - called to let them know I would be 10mins late and they said they wouldn't have enough time and so I rescheduled for the next day. Next day, heading to the appointment the traffic was really bad coming from downtown, called to let them know I was unfortunately stuck in traffic and they basically said don't bother coming in, was told that because I already rescheduled yesterday that I wouldn't be able to reschedule again and they wouldn't be able to accommodate me if I was late. I was like WTF? Although I understand that being late is not good, at least I had the courtesy to inform them. It was just appalling their attitude and I am really not happy with how I was treated here. I do not recommend this place. Go somewhere else. read more

This is the first place where I've seen them use a cover for the pedicure bowl thing on the massage chairs. That alone is enough to make me prefer this place over all the others! I come here for a mani-pedi every time I'm back in town, and it's always such a pleasant experience. I've requested Emily (Emery?) the past couple of times because she's basically perfect with her pedicure and her manicure. I've never had any nail technician pay as much attention as she did to the care of my hands and feet! I would give this place over five stars if I could! This place has horrible customer service. They have regulars who they favour and are just overall very rude. I went here for a while always tipped so high never anything less than 25-30 percent. I once had to cancel because I just had the flu. A couple months later I had an appointment and had to cancel because I got called into work. They were horribly rude and said I had been cancelling a lot lately when in reality I cancelled months ago. Just an update from my previous entry, which although posted a few days ago was based on an experience in May. Today I was ready for the same experience as last time, and must say that I was very pleasantly surprised. The service was MUCH better, and during my pedicure I got some great tips for avoiding callouses on my feet. @ Axxium Nail Lounge lol why is it that my acrylics were perfectly fine until I got a fill from your salon?all my nails except for one of them were only a fill and one was a fresh nail, so you'd expect itd be in better shape that the others right? Wrong! So much lifting on that single nail and it hurts like hell so I'm under the impression I may have a fungal infection under the only nail that your salon did, not only that but the next DAY after getting these (disclosure: I do not chew my nails) all the gel polish started to peel off, and it was an all around shitty manicure for $70! Seventy Canadian dollars!!! The original mami I had done only cost $35 and lasted a lot better than these. (I've gone to many nail salons and I'm also VERY picky and pay attention to small details) The shaping is quite consistent and even, the way the acrylic is applied is wondering it's a good thickness and also the designs are well done!! A really nice place. Vicki (excuse my possible incorrect spelling) was patient in explaining how to properly put my hands in the UV lamp, and I also really liked how she compared each nail from each hand together to make sure each each hand was balanced. My gels with extensions were $60 (kinda pricey), with a 10% off student discount. Would come again. read more

I had a good experience with my manicurist in that she did a good job with my gel nails. Went here a number of times until I found their attitude to be unwelcoming to say the least. They behave as if you are to work around their schedule - very rigid about moving your appt and punitive ie want to charge you for trying to change time or are running late. I stopped going here as did my friend who I recommended the place to. Simply too many options where you will be treated better. Not friendly, awkward at times during mani pedi. Clean little place that's very orderly but that's just it, feels like it's run by someone with OCD. So rules over customer relations. Made me feel like they don't care about the customer - value policies and procedures more than customer relations. read more

I have been here a few times and it's mostly been great. They seem to use quality materials, a good selection of polishes, and definitely know what they're doing! Get the owner, Vicky, if you can, but at least chat her up when you come in so the other technicians get a sense that you are a regular. Generally, though, they don't fuss over you here. Further Update: This is the second time they squished me in Cuz my polish wasn't satisfactory. Both Vicky & Emily are amazing! UPDATE: They were able to squeeze me in the next day, and touched up my thumb quickly! They also said I can stay as long as I need till it dries. Thank you, Emily & Vicky! I will be back, for sure! Previous review: There are a lot of good reviews about this place, so I gave them a try. Emily worked on my nails, and did a really fast, fantastic job. I called ahead to ask about how they clean & sanitize their tools. I was very impressed that they sterilize them well, they use separate tools for hands & feet, and they use disposable files each time! Yay! The new location is great, small, and clean. They are offering 20% right now for the new opening! Park around back, on one of the side streets. What was lacking for me is that the attitude once my service was done. Whilst I waited for my nails to dry, it seemed like they wanted me out of there ASAP. Even though there were no other clients there, I was completely ignored. Emily checked my nails, and sent me off too early, even though I knew it was too early & said so. I brought my own polish, including top coat...a brand notorious for taking forever to dry. Well, I was sent off before they were dry, and I've already wrecked my thumb on my drive home :( I hope that they can fix it tomorrow. The ladies here were great with my mum and I and I can't tell you the last time I had a manicure that didn't chip within a few days. I would have given them 5 stars if they had offered us beverages. Customer service is definitely lacking and I found Vicky (the owner) to be quite rude and unprofessional. I called for a nail repair but got the impression she didn't have time for smaller jobs. Whenever I tried calling lately, I got the fax machine. When I finally got thro, I was going to request Emily do my nails instead, but she had been told by Vicky to tell me I wasn't welcome at the salon (this after 2 visits for solar nails). Quite shocking! When I asked why, Emily couldn't say. I can't believe how unprofessional Vicky is and perhaps she has done me a favor as being near her felt toxic anyway. I had been going to Axxium Nail Lounge since it opened on Victoria and 49th, and had referred many of my friends and family there as well. The quality and service was amazing, and I thought I had built a friendly relationship with Vicki and Emily. Unfortunately after a couple of years, the longer I went there the worse of an experience I had. The customer service got poorer. Vicky and Emily would be very inconsistent, rude, and unprofessional. The quality of the work also shifted with quick turnover of new employees. Also, any mention of my nails needing fixing would be countered with anger. My last straw was when I called in advance to cancel my appointment as I was unwell. I was spoken to very rudely and hung up on. I would not recommend this place as the quality and service does not match the price. read more

Axxium is the reason why I get my nails done on a regular basis. I use to only get a shellac mani and pedi on my birthday, but when I discovered Axxium I was very pleased with the quality and service. They have the biggest selection in gel polish colours. Vicki and Emily are the best! read more

Vicki is the nail goddess here at Axxium. Whatever you want, she'll do. She does amazing freehand and the nails last for over 3 weeks (I'm used to nails only lasting 2 weeks), so that's a plus for me.. as someone who types all day, washes dishes without gloves, and is in general pretty rough with my hands (*wink*). I used to be so hesitant pointing out my sore toes because it just ends up hurting 10x more but Emily knows what she's doing!! Have to rate 1 star as I cannot rate 0!! Manager Vicky (the owner) does not know how to treat customers - as she was very rude and unprofessional. Asked for a short nails - without her asking for the length I preferred she completely chopped it down after I spent sooo long growing them out. My friend and I had a COMMON human mistake where we mixed up 2 of the techs. name as they never properly told us their names as they were not welcoming nor had interest in greeting us. For the whole time they were doing our nails - the manager kept making side comments about us, making us feel belittled, and did not care for our nails after that humanly common mistake. I left the with crooked uneven, different length nails - in which I was extremely unhappy with as she kept pushing me to choose the color she thought was more "natural" it looked horrible and worst than when I stepped in. Not worth the treatment you get for the price they charge - I do not recommend this place. Go somewhere else!!!! read more

I gave this place another try for a pedicure. - bad choice. I got somebody new this time, (nice enough)but came away with heaps of dry skin on my heels and no trimming around the nails. I knew I should have said something - I did about one of the toe nails still needed cutting, but that Vicki scares me! She was walking around the salon. I was in the chair for less than 45 mins. and usually it takes about one hour for a pedi. My pedi looked like something I could have done, I should have and saved my money. I will not go back there again, even though the location is great for me and it`s very clean looking. I always look forward to my pedicures, but this time I was let down, knowing I was gutless to say something that I was not happy with the job. I did not tip and that`s about all I did do! read more

Even though Vicki does a pretty decent job, her price is the same as other nail salons and so I would suggest you check out another place instead. The biggest draw back and reason why I will NOT be going back there is that Vicki is rude, cold, and very unfriendly. She scolded me in front of other clients for asking to get something simple done saying there wasn't time, when in fact she spent the first 15mins of my appointment trying to fix her TV, and in addition to having changed my appointment on me the day before. This is my first time here and I am impressed! The place nice and tidy when I arrived and not too busy. The girl who did my nails, Susan, was super friendly and made me feel welcomed. I showed her a pic of what I wanted and she did exactly that. She took her time and made sure the foundation of the acrylics were perfect before applying the colours. And throughout the process she would ask me if the shape was okay, the colours, etc, which I appreciate. In the end my nails came out beautifully! I had a really bad experience here. I went in for a shellac manicure pedicure. Right off the bat the owner of the salon was quite rude to me. I had asked for nail repair during my manicure, the esthetitian said they could be repaired and proceeded to use super glue to repair them. That night, I noticed my nails were still broken. The next day, my shellac nail polish started to chip. I called the following day and asked if I could come in to get these two nails fixed. The owner used an incredibly rude tone and said that I would have to pay for another manicure for that to be done. I went to pure nail spa instead where they fixed them for $5 and where I learned that nail repair is not simply slapping super glue on the break. Do not recommend!! I came in for a shellac manicure and the girl who did my manicure cut my cuticles so short, both my thumbs were bleeding. Also my shellac lasted less than 1 week. I've been coming here for almost two years and have left happy every single time.
