I needed an appointment last minute and walked into the nail salon after having been turned away from almost all on 4th avenue due to one reason or the other. They were accommodative not just to me but almost all the walk ins that I observed during my one hour there. It is a little crammed but they are efficient and quick. My only critic was that the person on the front desk was more interested in their phone than in greeting me. I was a little worried if they will continue to check their notifications while they did my nails as well but luckily that did not happen. I've been going to this salon for my acrylic nails for the past year. Julia is amazing! She always on time and friendly and does my nails exactly how I love them. She's great at nail art and always up on the latest trends. She fits me in for nail touch ups when I break my nail (ouch!!! ) which is greatly appreciated. I've recommended her to all my gfs. This salon is awesome - the rest of the staff is friendly as well. Clean and Covid friendly. Reasonable prices, most salons seem to be pretty on par with rates. read more

My lashes were done at the West 10th point grey location. Lots of glue was getting into my eyes; by the time we finished our session my eyes were cloudy red. The lash technician assured me that my eyes will get less red as the evening passes by. I've been getting my lashes done for 8 years and this is not normal; I attributed it to the fact that when she taped my bottom lashes, she had done it too roughly and pulled my lid too far down thereby exposing my eye and getting glue in there. When I woke up in the morning, boy was my eye irritated. It's two weeks later and I cannot stop rubbing my left eye. The lashes they use at this location is more similar to plastic than to hair, so my eyelids were often poked by the extension and left my roots swollen. I'm sure they do great nails but I would not come here for lash extensions unfortunately. The ladies are nice and they mean well, but $60 for a false sense of immunity to losing one's eyesight after she's drenching your retinas in glue and lash extensions that are of such poor quality that your eyelid is to the point of flirting with a rash isn't worth the money! Once you express your concerns with the shop owners, you are very likely going to receive an earful back. For some place that is supposed to be customer service oriented, this is not a good sign. read more

I had an appointment at Bare but mistakenly walked in here. (They are very near one another on 4th). I gave the manager my name and type of pedicure I had booked (the mint deluxe pedicure). Instead of being forthright and telling me I was in the wrong nail salon, the manager showed me a chair and assigned someone to give me a pedicure. I only realized my mistake when I got home and had a message from the original salon asking whether I would show up, as I was late. Though the young girl who serviced me was very nice, I am disgusted to have purposely been mislead by the salon owner/manager. She demonstrated complete disrespect for people doing what they can to support businesses in their own neighbourhood. Not only will I never return, but I will make sure to tell other local business owners of the shady, distasteful and unethical practices of Kitsila Nail Salon. read more

Okay, ladies (and gentlemen, if you're into this kind of thing. Though, much like the gay man living inside of me, I'd probably still call you ladies, no matter your gender or sexual preference), I have a really hard time reviewing salons like this. Save for the cramped quarters, there's really nothing remarkable about it. OPI polish in stock, above average sanitation standards, pretty average results, it's all good... but there's just no love from Kitsila. My toes look great, but my poor rough heels are still pretty scraggly; and really, I don't expect a massage when I get me a pedi but if you're gonna give one, give a good one, know what I mean? (yes, this means that they will massage your legs while your nails dry). So, I paid $35 for a pedicure that was booked no more than a few hours before. Meh, if I were in the neighbourhood and in a desperate need for an emergency polish, I'd probably go again. And probably still forget my sandals and probably will still have to look like an insane person as I wear their complimentary blue things all around Kits while I wait for my nails to dry. But, haaay! After a horrible experience at the nail salon in the UBC village I decided to try his place instead. The staff were so friendly, loads of colours to pick for, shellac or regular, and very reasonable prices. My friend was getting a pedicure so we sat in the massage chairs next to each other while I got a manicure. For $38 (including 20% tip) I got a hand massage, cuticle clean up, and beautiful shellac coating. The only reason for four stars instead of five is that the paint on one of my thumbs got a bit messed up and wasn't fixed entirely properly. It looks fine from afar, but has a bit of an air bubble in it. I will absolutely be going back for another manicure and probably a pedicure as well. read more

I find it really hard to justify spending the money on something that I like to think I could so myself but really, who am I fooling, I can barely stay in the lines when coloring in general.. .don't even get me started on my finger nails. However, I decided to treat myself to a manicure and it turned out great. I opted for the gel manicure and am very happy with the results. I had come here a couple times before and everything was fine. But today was a completely different story. I asked for a gel manicure and regular pedicure. I had 2 different girls work on me, I could tell the one that was doing my hands was really focusing, but that got me a little worried as she was extra slow and guess what OUCH she cut me! It hurt like heck and was bleeding. It didn't really seem to phase her. She grabbed a little bottle of blue stuff. Did a dab dab and said "it will stop bleeding soon". Uhhhh thanks no it didn't stop bleeding and then OUCH again. Another cut!! Clearly she was new at this didn't have a clue. I had stop her half way through the manicure and just ask her to paint my nails. I didn't want to take the chance of her cutting me again. As for the pedicure, it was meh. The absolute most basic pedicure you could have. Guess I should be happy with that. No cuticle cutting...so no more cuts! Also found it so annoying that the girl had to keep stopping so she could answer the phone or help customers that were walking in. Somehow I'd never noticed this little salon on 4th although I walk by there often. I first heard about it through my son of all people. He was home late after work one Friday and it turns out he and one of his co-workers treat themselves to mani/pedis every pay day. Clearly I've taught this young man well!! :) I wanted to treat a friend for her birthday so we walked up there for our appointments. It's small but they made sure we were seated beside each other. I LOVE the massaging chairs!!! I could have sat there all afternoon. We just went for pedicures this time. My feet look fantastic and are so soft. My toenails are perfect. I used to go further to pay $10 less but the place is dumpy and it smells of chemicals. I'd rather pay a little bit more to be able to just walk here and the atmosphere is way nicer. The staff were really nice too. They've already got one regular in my family and now they've got a second. I'll be going back for sure and I'll probably take my daughter too. This is my go to nail spot. Their service has been consistent and my nails always look nice. I opt for shellac manicures. I've only had one chip early and they fixed it right away when I popped in with no charge. So all in all I've been happy customer. That being said they can get quite busy. As much as they allow walk ins you are best off to make an appointment in advance. Also keep in mind that making an appointment doesn't necessarily mean you'll actually get your service started at the time you booked. So that would be the downside. Otherwise the place is clean and all the women that work there are very friendly. They want to make sure that you are happy. Even if you get your nails done and don't love the colour they will fix it for you. It hasn't happened to me personally, but I've witnessed that situation in action. The price is standard for the area. It may not have an Instagrammable decor, but the service and quality is consistent. I've been going for about 2 years. read more

As incredible as it may sound, I have not yet written a review here or anywhere else. However, the experience I just had was so overwhelmingly poor that I actually signed up here specifically to share my experience. I was introduced to this salon by a friend who is a longstanding customer. I have to say that the first time I went I was also quite impressed with the pedicure and gel nails I got done. The next experience was not as good. So, I realized like anywhere it depends on the individual nail tech. But today something happened on a customer service level that has left me astonished. I phoned in the morning and made an appt to have a regular pedicure. I did not get nails also as I had just had my gel nails done with them three weeks ago. Now I want to add that last week one of my nails broke. As I work late hours during week I waited until the weekend to have it fixed. Now yes I did not tell them on the phone when I made appt that I would get this ONE nail fixed (takes 10 minutes at most) as I figured it would be a non issue since I was planning to not even get polish on my feet - which I had not informed them of even. As far as they knew I was getting a full pedi. Cut to, I get there, having my pedicure and let the tech know that there is also this one nail I would love to please have fixed as it prematurely broke after such a short time and I had it done with them. She said sure. Cut to I am done pedicure and ask where do I wait please for the nail fix. Then a woman with glasses and hair in bun comes over and informs me that there is no time today to fix. I explained and said are you sure? She said sorry sorry very busy today. Btw today was a rainy day and I assure you it was not very busy. There were about 5 people in the salon. I have seen it MUCH busier believe me. I insisted that it should not have broken in such a short time in first place and also since I did not even use up more time with them to get polish on my pedicure which for sure takes longer than the 10 minutes to fix the nail - how could they say no? Pls note nowhere else have I been refused on a nail fix, including here when on first time also one nail broke and they fixed it right away. That was of course the owner though and she seems highly organized and aware of how to provide good service so I am disappointed that some of her staff are not measuring up to the level of quality she is working hard to emit. So long story short this was poor customer service. Although I insisted they turned me down to repair something that again, they should be happy to fix considering it was done there and broke in such short time and I did not even use my full pedicure time with them!!!! I will not be coming back and will be sure to tell EVERYONE about this. Because first of all my time like everyone's is valuable. And no I do not have time to come see you on another day in this kind of a circumstance. I barely have time to come in the first place. Please pay attention and care to your customers. I had gone there on a recommendation as a friend. I got a shellac manicure and it was by far the worst manicure I've ever received. I've been getting shellac for at least 3 years now and I've never had to deal with this. After 4 DAYS they all started to peel and I had to go get them done again. I sent an email and they offered a free service to make up for the terrible quality I received the first time. When I tried to redeem it they conveniently told me about the $10 charge to take off my existing shellac. They seem way more concerned with money than they do customer service. I'm so disappointed with the quality and the customer service. I've never had nails start to peel off as easily as they did here. Would not recommend. read more

They introduced me to Ha who said she could do them. She was very sweet, and easily the most detail oriented nail tech I have ever had. She spent so much time making sure the shape, design and length were perfect. And the end result? Better than the picture I brought in! After so much care and attention the final cost was $55! THEY CUT OUR FEET! We walked in because they advertised express mani pedis. YAY!... so we thought. They rushed people out of there to make room for us, we felt kind of bad about that. Through out the process, they didn't talk to us in English or at all for that matter and felt self conscious about my feet as they seemed to look at them then laugh and snicker back and forth. They took off way too much callous on my moms feet and ended up cutting her foot pretty bad and didn't realize it until she said something in a panic. They took forever and then proceeded to rush us out before the nail polish was dry and ended up wrecking a couple of my toes and had to redo them. One of the ladies always seemed to be on her cell phone and once they were done painting and we were waiting for them to dry everyone disappear. When we went to leave they charged us regular price and didn't honour their sale express mani/pedi price this was even after THEY CUT MY MOMS FOOT!!! The price for a regular Mani is $20 before tax and tips. This I would say is market price in the area for a Mani. My manicures are always FLAWLESS. I love this place! I first came here to get gel nail extensions a while back, and I'm sure glad I got them. They were impressively strong, and I've been coming back getting them filled every since. Now the extensions that I have are outstandingly long in length and sure enough they are just as strong as they where when I first got them as little tiny ones that just added a little umph to my nails. I can actually go almost two months without needing a fill, I suggested this place to a friend, and from what I've heard shes had the same luck as me. I would give this 0 stars is possible! I booked a Brazilian here today and it was the WORST waxing experience ever!!!!! My "waxer" was Helen and she had no business "waxing" anyone let alone doing a Brazilian!!!! The strip got stuck on my hair as she was waxing and she had to cut it off! I asked her how much experience was and she said "I wouldn't be waxing you if I didn't know what I was doing." At this point I was horrified! Why would you retort with that? Truth is there are MANY under experienced waxers out there. I told her to finish up the area and leave me be. She continued even when I told her not to, so I was clearly upset and told her to stop. She left bits of the wax and strips all over me. I'm completely disgusted by the service and the fact the salon would allow such inexperienced aestheticians work there! I've been there many times & had waxing done Yu and another girl who were both fabulous and professional. I get shellac and pedicures and my nails literally never break or chip. They always do cute designs on my pedicures, and prices are very reasonable. I had a gel manicure done and she did a really good job, checking with me during each step to ensure it was what I wanted. I left happy but the next day I noticed a small bubble on one finger. I went back and she sat me down immediately and fixed it. She was really accommodating and told me that if it happens again, it would be not problem to come back. Paid full price for the pedicure and tipped $5 for a total of almost $45. Not as good as I have had elsewhere on special deals through the internet. I would say average and the nails look good. I guess the difference is in the extras and how you enjoy the experience of being treated to something that would be a bit hard to do yourself. The staff talked a lot to each other in their native language which I could not understand but seldom made any effort to connect with me, talk to me, make eye contact or make the experience personal and I personally, missed that. Never again. I came here because I was in a rush and it was reasonably priced ($30 for shellac mani) but I really wish I had just spent an extra few bucks and went somewhere else. The decor and atmosphere is nothing special or appealing, but that didn't matter to me. The issue came down to having a nail technician who didn't at all bother to mask her frustration over having to do my nails, and the extremely poor job she did. I tried asking her questions which were either ignored or answered with annoyed, curt answers. Even completely rude customer service can be overlooked if I got a good manicure in the end, but it was hands down the worst manicure I've ever had. She cut three of my fingers, and each time was glancing up, hoping I wouldn't notice. Not once did she apologize, and one of them is bad enough that it still hurts now, two days later. Next the polish on three of my fingers started to melt off because of the bulbs not being strong enough on the machine, and when I pointed it out to her, she just kept layering polish over them, hoping to cover it up. She was content to finish the manicure with half of the polish melting off, and I had to ask several times for it to be fixed before someone else took over and tried to fix it (I will say this woman was very sweet and did a great job on my friend's nails).
