I walked in on Saturday to get a manicure with gel polish. The place didn't look too clean but I went with it anyways. I wanted shorter nails with the almond shape, so round but a little bit narrower at the tip. The nail technician just shaped my nails in a round shape and ignored what I wanted. She also tried to convince me to get a different colour because the colour I picked was a new bottle of gel polish. Less than a week after my manicure, the gel polish already chipped on one of my fingers. I can't be bothered to go back to complain and ask for repair, and I'm never going back to this nail salon. read more

Reasonable prices for adequate service. Went in for a gel polish pedicure and they were able to fit me in without an appointment. The water was lukewarm and quickly cooled down as the treatment went on. The lady who did my pedicure was a little too rough for my liking--my feet don't need a lot of filing but she really filed away at them. When she shaped my toenails, she pushed the skin in the corner of my right big toe a little too far and it stung for about an hour afterwards. She also rinsed off some of the tools in the water my feet were soaking in.. Those reasons set aside, the service was fast and thorough, and they had a great selection of colours. My feet felt so soft afterwards and I'm in love with the way they look right now. The staff was quite friendly, as I watched them interact with all the customers coming through the door they were extremely accommodating and open to conversation. Overall, this salon gives service that matches the affordable prices. Probably wouldn't be my first choice, but it's definitely a reliable last minute pick. read more

Just got my nails done and they look terrific! I haven't done my nails properly at a salon in over four months and mostly didn't go because I had gel and let the grow out. I must admit they looked terrible! I have walked past this salon and kept telling myself that I should drop by and get a mani or mani pedi. So when I had the time I dropped in. Happy I did, but also had this nagging feeling the staff were trying to figure out what I was. I had my deeper throaty voice, suffering from allergies, my eye liner was done crookedly in the car this morning in the dark and I have man hands. I felt like all eyes were watching me, but didn't care if staff were trying to guess and if customers took a second glance at me. ( you see, some customers speak Vietnamese.....). They did a better job than the place I used to go to in Richmond and they were nice to me ( when speaking English)... Plus my nails looked great! Loved the darker maroon burgundy colour. Best of all? She cleaned up what was left of my gel polish and the price was fantastic ! Ok I'll be back for more and get to know them better. Got my acrylic nails done here. I was charged $55 for a fill. And $10 for this design. The customer service was nice but I find it over priced for what it is. So I paid total of $65 + tax plus tip. Unfortunately I won't be going back. I've had better designs for this price. But overall my experience was nice. read more

I went to Awesome Nails for the first time today for Gel nail extensions because my nails were a stubby mess. I had Linda as my nail lady. She was ok throughout the process, but I wouldn't say the most gentle. She started filing my skin at some parts of the procedure and the shaping looked odd. As you can see from the before and after photos, the coffin nails she did on me looked clunky and uneven. It wasn't very convenient either to do stuff with. So I filed them down at home and it looks great now. I paid $52.50 for these nails. I would say the service is mediocre, but it gets the job done if you want cheap gel nail extensions. *update- since Tina is no longer here, I no longer come to this place. I now go see Moon at Ngoc Nga. My regular nail lady of 1.5 years, and my schedule didn't work out this month. I was in desperate need of a gel fill and needed it to be shorten before I break my nails. I was skeptical at first, but Maylynn? Did an AMAZING job. She was fast and didn't cut me at all! My gel fill is usually liquid gel based, but here they use a powder and dips into something that turns into a gel, but I don't really care. I have ocd and I neee things to be even, and she did an amazing job! Her filing skills were great and everything finger was even. I got my nails done on a Saturday. The service I had was the regular manicure and a pedicure. By Wednesday and Thursday of the following week, the nail polish had come off half the nails. When I inquired, they said that a regular manicure is supposed to last 2-3 days. Within that time, they will correct any problem. I think that is unacceptable as I've had manicures last longer than this before. While a chip here and there is expected, half the nail polish peeled off is not. It's overpriced for the service you receive. I will not be returning. I'm referring to the Awesome Nails located at Blundell Centre. read more

Walked in for a shellac manicure. Even though I didn't make an appointment beforehand, the salon wasn't too busy when I went (around 2pm on a weekday). I do agree with the other review. The ladies here do talk with each other in a different language, but the nail technician I had was friendly. She introduced herself and tried to make conversation with me. I've been to other salons where a shellac manicure with massage takes around 30-60 minutes, however, my nail technician finished my nails in around 20 min. End results: - I asked to shorten my nails, but I found my nails were over-filed. - The initial colour came out quite nice. I'm a HUGE acrylic nail lover. So, I'm quite a stickler for details, especially the shape of the nail. This place is OK; it is quite reasonably priced, they accommodate walk ins, although you most likely will have to wait. The shop is decently clean, however you can tell they do not follow proper cleaning procedures- they reuse the nail files, buffers and clippers and do not clean them in between uses. The basins they use for pedicures are not scrubbed either; they simply place a plastic wrap on the tub before use so they don't have to scrub the tubs in between uses. They simply throw the plastic out afterwards and rinse the basin with water. Now, for the nails. They have a decent colour selection, but they messed up my colour and almost put a bright pink on, and I had requested a neutral gray colour. However, I noticed before application and she went and got the right polish. My complaint is the nails are quite sloppy. The shape of the nails are simply OK... There are a few nails that are suuper lopsided and look pretty sloppy. The shape isn't very good. The polish application was again just OK; they didn't cap the free edge which is a HUGE pet peeve of mine- this leads the colour to chip easily. They don't put much detail into their work. But for a $45 acrylic set with gel polish, which is fairly cheap as acrylic nails go, I wasn't expecting amazing, detail-oriented work. All in all, this place is ok. The nails look good from a distance, but up close you can really tell where they messed up. I wouldn't come back personally, as I have been to other nail salons that do a much more detailed job for the same price. But if you aren't quite as anal about detail, I think it could be worth checking out for their cheaper prices. read more

I was in need of a pedicure and was too lazy to trek to my regular nail salon in mount pleasant. This was a great find, especially after my last 2 mediocre nail salon experience. Awesome Nails no. 2 is located on no. 2 road and Blundell. DO NOT get confused with Awesome Nails located on Blundell and no. 4 road (apparently different owners and bad reviews). This nail salon was busy for a Monday morning and I was lucky that they were able to squeeze me in as a walk-in. They are situated in a shopping complex close to Shoppers and Safeway, so there is plenty of parking. Nice selection of shellac colors and this place was spotless! I had Cathy as my nail technician and she was meticulous, polite and professional. She really took her time with my pedicure and did not rush at all. Started with a gentle foot scrub and a lengthy foot massage, which was heavenly! She made sure I was comfortable and even helped me adjust the massage chair. Paint job was perfect and my feet is super soft. $45 for a shellac pedicure + $5 take off. They even helped me repair one of my nail for free. Not the cheapest, but the service was well worth it and I would highly recommend Cathy. read more

The ladies who worked here were very friendly, easy going and made the experience enjoyable. They didn't rush me even though they were busy. I noticed they even took several customers in on the spot, which shows that they are sufficiently staffed. In my opinion, the pedicure is well worth it. Reasonably priced and a relaxing experience. They've given me not one but FIVE CUTS. I used to come here a lot for fills and pedis since early 2017. The two most recent times I came I was cut. The first time the lady was using the electric file to take off my old gel polish. She was so busy chatting with another lady that she slipped and cut open my thumb. The cut was about a centimetre long and 3mm deep and bled everywhere, they dumped this white powder on it to stop the bleeding and tried to play it off like it was nothing. I figured this was a rare occurence and maybe I was just that one unlucky statistic so I went back thinking there's no way it would happen again. I came back a month later and this time June slipped and cut me on the same thumb I was cut last month, but luckily this cut was much smaller. Then when she was working on my other hand she filed my nails so hard with the filing block that the inside of my pinky, ring finger and middle finger were all cut open. She first cut my pinkie and I already flinched and asked her to go lighter. Then she kept going and cut the next two fingers. WTF. This place is cheap yes but DON'T GO HERE. read more

Please don't confused this one with the other Awesome Nails (9040 Blundell)! "Awesome Nails No. 2" provides really good services! Walk-ins are welcomed and staffs are quite accommodating, however, it is usually pretty busy, especially at the weekends, so I'd suggest to call in advance. It is under new ownership, and the lady owner is very friendly. Most of the staffs here speaks and understands English. Hygiene-wise, I would say it's pretty good comparing to the other nails salons in Richmond I visited before. They put a wrap around the soaking basin and change it for the next customer; also, you got your own set of buffer/filer/callus remover and toe separator. The staffs will throw them away after you finished. 10% off on Mani & Pedicure on Tuesday! I follow Kathy from City Nails to "Awesome Nails No. 2," she is super good and nice. Cindy is also very popular, too. My pedi cost $30- it seemed a bit more expensive comparing to other nail salons, but the environment and atmosphere here is really enjoyable. Great experience! I've been to Awesome Nails #2 a couple times. It seems even better now under the new management, not that I had any issues before. My previous experience was satisfactory but nothing special. I was a walk-in (also this time), and got one of my in-between-the-hi-end-just-for-upkeep pedicures......and it did the trick. Those kitschy massage chairs didn't hurt either since who doesn't love a little deep tissue kneading out of the knots while getting pampered? As much as I really like Dona Lucia (among some of the salons I frequent) I knew today was not the day for holding my legs 'in position' on the footrest throughout my session. Building on my core strengths could wait for another day.... But today at Awesome #2 was so much better than before! Maybe it's 'cuz at work I've been breaking in new industrial steel-toed shoes for the last two weeks, plus I've been on my feet constantly (unless I took a bathroom or lunch-break); I've been moving around stuff and discovering muscles I never knew I had. And today the massage chair paled in comparison to the excellent (& lengthy!) foot & leg massage I received from June. June also provided professional & efficient service (even with the amazing massage) and the rest of the staff were all very friendly also. Located conveniently at Blundell and 2 Rd plaza, this place is great. Booked two pedicures on the phone and we arrived early and they were able to accommodate us. The ladies there are really nice and want to make you comfortable and happy. Honestly I don't expect a lot of friendly service at Vietnamese nail salons, same with Pho restaurants. I'm so sad that I will not be going here. This was my go-to spot to get my nails done, but sadly it has become a place where they don't properly train and take shortcuts on removing shellac. The proper way to do is to file down gently the top, soak in acetone and scrape off the polish. The last 2 times I've gone here, they've sanded all of the shellac off without soaking at all. It has wrecked the quality and appearance of my nails. Please be careful of how the proper way is to take care of your lovely nails and watch out for places that do this. It is not good for your nails in the long run. read more

It was an awful experience from beginning to end. I called in to make an appointment - but they made me wait 30 minutes to get help. I understand if it's like 10 minutes, but I actually had other plans afterwards. Secondly, I told her I wanted gel nail extensions. She started doing shellac on me, and I stopped her and said no, I want gel nail extensions, and she's like "When you say gel, you mean shellac, you don't mean lengthening. If you want fake nails you have to specify!" Which was the first time I ever heard that. So at this point I was about to leave because she says she doesn't have time to do the extensions (even though I had specified over the phone). She realizes I needed gel nail extensions because two of my nails broke off and I wanted them all to be the same length as the other ones, so we decide to do shellac on 8 fingers, and acrylic on two to make them all the same length. This way I get what I want, she gets her business. They end up awful. It was bad. The gel nails were not properly smoothed out, the shape was weird, and the shapes of my normal nails were bad. Worst part is that she got shellac on my skin, and it burned when I put it under the UV light. I immediately took my hands out and told her that it hurt because she put shellac on my skin, and she proceeded to say "it's normal". I've gotten my nails done at many other places and at no point have I had burning skin, so it's definitely not normal. I'm not sure if it's just the lady I had to deal with, but I had such an awful experience I'm not taking chances and I'm never coming back. read more
