I hate to give bad reviews but this place is TERRIBLE. I went to Shi Nail to get my nails done 4 days before my WEDDING. I'll let the photos do justice. I posted a photo of what I wanted and what I ended up getting. They made my nails look like tiny sausages...lol Nails were crooked and much longer than what I asked for. I got cut as you can see in the photo, the 'faded look' I asked for looked ridiculous. And I didn't even bother taking photos of my pedicure, the toe nails were lumpy because they sprayed some liquid on before the nail polish was dry. My sister was waiting for me and I have already spent 2 hours there so I decided to leave the salon hoping it only looked bad because I was impatient and tired... Well turns out it DID look bad and my girlfriends questioned why I even walked out the salon having nails looking like that.. ...cuz I HAD NO PATIENCE! This place charges way way too much than they should, I could've gotten a much better gel nail/pedi at somewhere that charges less than half of what they charged me. I walked out spending more than $110. They ended up charging me for the 'faded-look' in which wasn't made clear at the beginning and at the very end, I had to spent more money having these nails removed and redone before my wedding (although I had very little time). NOT IMPRESSED! The only good thing I could say about this nail salon is that they are well organized, they take photos of every nail job for their own system for record and the staff were ready to serve me upon my arrival. I do not recommend this place, firstly I phoned to book an appointment and ask if they had a callus shavers, they said "yes". They do not! They have a hand held mini sander which removed nothing. Their "sanitized" tools were inside an already open bag that they kept after they were done, which makes me question their cleanliness. They didn't clean the foot tub for the next client who sat next to me. Usually when I get a pedicure I always get a message, not here. Wasn't even going to put a top coat on, I had to demand it. They were done in like 20 min and ignored us for another 20 to let our feet air dry. Really? Air dry? She then informed it take 3 hours to dry but we were done at that point. No fan to dry our feet like other salons. I won't be going back. I've gone to hole in the walls with better service. read more

I got a combo mani/pedi here. Pricing was good, and it's conveniently by Richmond Centre RAV line station. Pedi was good - they have these foot baths and after that they worked on my feet before they painted my toes. the polish dried fast and has lasted - the only complaint I would have is that they didn't have those foamy toe separators so one of my toes almost had to be done again because the painted toe nail was too close to the next toe. Manicure was just okay. The technician didn't feel comfortable communicating in English so wanted to check that it was okay (through the receptionist) on how she was going to make my nails "french" but still dry quickly. I'm glad she checked. She did everything fine technically but I've never seen a manicure chip so badly so soon (within a week). They used OPI base & top coat but what probably did it was the edge wasn't sealed with top coat (only the top of the nail). The nail salon is nice and the foot baths were regularly sanitized between uses. I'll give them another try. read more

My most recent visit proved that the service attitude and quality has improved drastically. I only came here out of desperation as my regular manicurist is on a long holiday and I needed a quick gel nail fix. It used to be that the staff seemed very pretentious and hard to speak to, and I was charged an outrageous amount for a basic service to my nails that didn't turn out well. This time around they were super friendly and helpful, and the fix up was quite thorough and good. The pricing and various add on charges didn't change I don't think, but because the service improved so much I'd say it was worth it. I'm updating my review from one star to four.;-) read more

I really want to like this place. I really do. It looks so great on paper. But unfortunately the service just didn't deliver! I'd give this place ZERO star if I can. The whole experience from beginning to end was just unprofessional! My friend and I haven't seen each other for a while and we thought going to get a mani pedi together would be awesome since we will be together for at least 2 hours getting pampered and having time to catch up. My friend made the reservation 2 weeks ahead and specifically told them that we are going to get our nails done together. On the day of, my friend arrived 5 minutes early and the receptionist was trying to pressure her to start first. I mean, the whole point two girl friends book a mani pedi together is to do it TOGETHER. When my friend told her that she'd like to wait for me, the receptionist told her to call me to make sure I don't flake out. Seriously? I wasn't late yet! Anyway, when I arrived, they make her go first regardless ... She started 10 minutes before me. SO that kind of annoying. The mani pedi was also not great. I got CUT during my pedi and the technician (Meggie), with the help of the receptionist as a translator, blamed it on the "steep angle of the nails" OK ... I can't say I am a "pedi-junkie" but I have had a fair share of pedi and I was NEVER cut before ... I don't want to say Meggie is unprofessional but I would perhaps recommend some more training for her. During the drying process, we saw this super snobbish woman walked in with her stroller. She obviously comes here regularly because all the staff flocked to her and cooed over the baby. And then half the staff proceed to be pseudo babysitters while we are left alone and ignored. I guess repeat customers are more important than new customers ... Oh, and the cherry on top? The receptionist had the gall to ask me for a tip for the technician. I told her I don't want to leave anything because I was cut. She said, "Oh. Is this about your toe?" ... UMMM ... YES OMG. They did say they will call me the next day to check in about my injury but I actually didn't hear from them until 6 days later. I'm just glad I didn't get an infection ... My friend and I came to the salon and asked for a manicure. I showed the receptionist and my nail tech the picture and told them I want this color and the stars and moon design . But for my ring fingers I wanted the marble. We picked the color and after that my nail tech put stones on my ring finger without asking me. I was talking to my friend so I didnt pay attention. After I saw it, it's already done. I was not happy with the color and i asked her if I can go 1 shade darker. She showed me the empty gel bottle as her answer. I was like oh okay. After 2 hours she finished and the receptionist gave me the receipt. The total was $144. I was shocked because I went to many different salons to get acrylic and extension sets and the price is around $100 including tips. I didnt even get extensions and the design is pretty simple. She didnt explain the details of what she charged me. When I called to the salon to ask why they charged me up to $144, the receptionist couldn't explain the details. I would NEVER COME BACK THERE. I was really disappointed with the result. The gel was not applied evenly. I can see many little bubbles inside. I have checked the reviews online and they all went through the same experience that I did. They overcharged their customers. If I could I would give this salon 0 star. It doesn't deserve 0 star. I asked them to email me the details of what they charged me and was waiting for 2 hours. I called them again and they said they already emailed me 3 times. After I hang up I received the email. My opinion is based off of multiple hard gel nails with extension that I normally get. I haven't tried out any other services so I can't give an opinion on those. The salon itself is very clean and comfortable, and as an added bonus, it's also very chic and stylish :) I must say that this is the only acceptable place for me to get gel nails done in Richmond. All my techs so far have always taken special care and does not file your nail down to a thin painful layer. On top of that, my nails have always lasted me for a month and they have a 10-day guarantee for gel extensions if it breaks. Regardless of the language barrier (as I speak English), my techs so far have been polite and courteous. The reason I gave it 4/5 stars is mainly the price. It is definitely an expensive salon, so be prepared to spend. read more

This was probably the worst nail experience I have had in my adult life! I went in to get a new set of nails (because they make you take off anything they didn't do in their salon) so they were going to remove my nails and put on a new set except the girl didn't fully remove the gel from my nails and put their gel on top so a few days later the gel started to lift. When I went in to have them repaired, they put me in a pedicure chair and "fixed" the two nails that were lifting on my hand ... When she was done, the nails were still lifting in the corners and they looked extremely sloppy! Needless to say I did not go back ever! I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy! read more

This is my first time going to a nail salon. The place was very clan and bright. The girls at the salon are really nice and friendly. They are Lao very professional. I chose a white gel polish, it is very beautiful. Sitting on the chair for an hour and half is really tiring but I don't mind it at all. The results are really nice. Had chrome nails done at this place. I mean it came out nice beautiful color and all. Yes i had to reshape it at home because the nails were filed crooked and too pointy. The polish was not applied evenly. You can see lumps everywhere. But honestly what i really dont understand was why my bill was charged $200 for a manicure and extensions for only two nails and the chrome color. I did not have a pleasant experience at this nail salon. I was a first time customer and I went there only for gel nails. The staff suddenly charged 20 minutes of hand massage (at a rate of $1/min) near the end of my manicure without asking/telling me about it. They added this service without my consent. I find them not being honest and up front. I ended up paying for the added fee because I did not want to make a scene/ fuss. The place is clean and quiet and I bought a package since I see myself coming here often and all my visits have been lovely. Today I wanted to a shellac pedicure and a basic manicure. Have been doing shellac on my hands for a while now so I wanted to take a break. I was informed that if i m not doing shellac manicure again, I will be charged $2.50 per finger on top of the basic manicure ($25) even though my shellac manicure was previously done here. Decided not to get my hands done (coz I don't want to spend $50 on a basic manicure) and won't top up my package again. read more

I gave 3 stars just for the fancy decoration and cleanness. But the technican who helped me was not well-trained. I paid $150 for my gel nails plus the deco on top. So I expected my rhinestones which were on top of the nails to be bling bling enough. But I was so dissapointed after I saw the finished work. Let's just say it was such a disaster. And the second day, I could already see the air bubbles went inside some of my nails which I wasn't surprised. I couldn't stand more the day after, so I went to somewhere else to take off the nails. Very impressed with Shi-Nail... clean, modern & professional, everyone wears uniform. Staff don't chit chat to each other loudly like the other 'usual' nail places. The heated massage chair has 'chromotherapy', & they even give you a blanket and each station has netbook computer for surfing and watching movies. Exceptional customer service the moment you walk in, I was always being updated on the process as it was my first time there and was provided with a lot more education about my nail service. It's hard to find a good, clean place that can perfectly do a full set of gel extensions w/ shellac and detailed designs. I picked something complicated and more elaborate than I normally do as that is my way of evaluating a salon specializing in nails. My nails were flawless from the smooth and perfectly even coat of shellac to the individual crystals and mini gold pearls. Unbelievably disappointing experience! For 37.59 you get a basic pedicure. The water was already in the basin before I sat down. It was cold and when asked to make it hot the last was annoyed. They also kept speaking in another language and laughing.,, so uncomfortable! It took them less then. 20 minutes to complete everything . The massage was non existent .. Lotion on the leg and some pounding of a fist .. Did nothing . Using a sander on the heels did nothing .. The heels look no better. The polish looks like a child put it on and got all bumpy shortly after. After the. 20 minute pedi waited over 35 minutes for it to dry. When asked when I could go I was told I could go but it would take 3 hours for the polish to dry . No one asked about nail art or any other services or if I was doing okay. When it came time to pay I was told that I needed to leave a tip! I do not recommend this place. Poor service, lack of experience and expensive for getting a bad pedi. read more

Not very impressed with the service here. I came here for a mani ($25) and an elaborate gel set ($185). For the price you would think I received five star service? Nope think again. First I had to wait half an hour before I got any service. ( I made an appointment ) I arrived at 1:00 and I didn't have someone working on my nails until 1:25. They had a "trainee" to remove my old nail polish and to file my nails, by trainee they must have meant a student. She had no clue how to file nails, she over filed my nails on ALL SIDES (How is this possible?) I had to tell her to STOP filing because there is nothing left to file. At least she had the decency to ask me (AFTER over filing) if she's hurting me. Heck she couldn't even take off the nail polish I had on properly, she was sooo slowwww that it annoyed me. I can still see specks of the old color on my cuticles. ( I know, I know, I should've inspected my nails properly before I left) Now on to the girl that actually did my gel set, she jumped right into gel sculpting (wait what? Where is my proper mani? My cuticles haven't been clipped and tidy yet) The girl that did my gel set is professional and quick, however she didn't speak a lick of English. Communication is definitely an issue here, I wanted sharp claw nails, I got oval. It have been 3 days since I got my nails done and the color is fading out of the gel. I went here because I thought my experience would be nicer than just going to Starlit or some other Viet salon around the block. I went for a pedicure ($36. $25 at most other salons) and I was greeted and brought to my seat. I do admit the iPad and the seat are nice and fancy. My lady did a decent job and she is quite nice, she didn't talk much. No one really did. And because I am not Chinese they seemed even less willing to talk to me. Only complaint about my service is that they didn't ask if I wanted a drink until halfway through, and the massage was very weak. I was also there long enough to have 2 ladies have a pedicure beside me. They did NOT wash and sanitize the bowl between customers. The tea was also room temperature instead of hot. While my toes were drying a girl tried to politely kick me out of the seat by telling me to sit up at the front of the shop. They don't try to get to know you or ask how you know about the shop, etc. Overall the environment is very professional, for I am a nail tech myself. I can see there is a dress code and whatnot. That does not mean they were friendly. They did not make me feel happy or welcome to be there. Every customer there seemed dead. Probably won't come back. If you can afford their service and don't like much talking. Then come here. Otherwise not worth it. read more

My friend and I always go to get out nails done together. We wanted to try a new place and judging by their Instagram and Facebook we thought they would be able to do some cool nail art. I called last week to book our appointments. The girl on the phone barely spoke English.. I said one manicure with nail art and that my friend would want to get fake nails and nail art. She said okay, 2 manicures. Fast forward to yesterday, a girl called to confirm an appointment for ONE mani/ pedi. I said no, I had booked TWO manicures with nail art, the girl then said okay see you tomorrow. We get there today (30 min early because we were in the area) and the girl said they only booked a manicure of us. This doesn't include any nail art and not enough time to do the fake nails for my friend. I told her about the phone call and she said she would look and see if they had time. We sat for 15 min while she did this, she then came over and said there wasn't enough time and asked us to come tomorrow instead. We said we couldn't, and left. 1. Don't have someone that doesn't understand answer the phone. 2. Don't make us wait 15 min just to tell us you don't have time 3. Confirm the reservation on the phone before you book the wrong thing for us. 4. You probably should have done something for mixing up our appointment instead of telling us to come another time. It's a very modern and clean place. I've been there a few times and each time was a different technician that helped me out. I would say all of them are very good at what they do and know what they are doing. However, the reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is because of some of their technicians' attitudes. I've been there about 6 times and 3 of the times I get a friendly technician. The other 3 times, I just wish they could see their own faces in the mirrors. Quite disappointed with my experience. Only had my shellac put on my nails 4 days ago and it's chipping off. Looks a little thick to me as well. With my pedicure only one coat of polish and no top coat. Nothing was posted and I wasn't told when I booked my appointment that they charge you $2.50 per nail to take off the shellac if they didn't put the original polish on. Never in the past 5 years have I ever experienced that. I was only told as my pedicure was started and the removal of the shellac was started. What the heck was I supposed to do?? Horrible service!!! We went as a group of three for pedicure and the three ladies who provided the service had horrible attitude. My nail technician finished off my toes without putting on top coat. When i asked her to do so, she told me that it would be hard to dry since she applied three layers of polish already. She then asked me "do u understand". I feel like she is treating me like a retard. Anyways, my girlfriends were very upset on their service. I booked mani and pedi combo, so the same lady helped me on my mani. I told her that I want something nude on my nails. Then she said my hands would look too pale so she suggested some other colors which I didn't like. At the end, I told her I want the nude color and she said I wouldnt like it for sure. Now that there were bubbles on my nails which it wouldn't even happen if I do it myself. I've came here 3 times in total over the span of a year. Don't think ill come back. I have to say that the techs do a pretty good job, only if they aren't rushed. Overall the customer service is just horrible. They charge quite a bit compared to other salons in town and are definitely catered towards the rich Asian. I'm not a super rich Asian but can afford to do my nails if I want to. The receptionist or manager is normally polite but my last visit just left a bad taste in my mouth. I wanted to get a specific design done so I brought with me a picture of the design. The manager came up to check on my nails then said 'oh that's a lot of rhinestones, I don't know if it fits in your budget(when I didn't give her a budget). Its going to add up and get expensive' I was like seriously? What makes you think I can't afford it? Immediately I felt looked down at. I just finished my desIGN and the bill came to $160?
