I ordered a cake for a baby shower to be delivered to a restaurant. It wasn't there !!!!then when I tried calling them they never pick up there phone! then after I finally got thru they said the driver left 10 minutes ago so we waited now we only had 1/2 hour til our party was over. I called them again after trying so many times they told me they never made the cake! We were devastated!!! So we had no dessert with our coffee thank god the restaurant stepped up and gave everyone icecream but this was our first time using Annadale Bakery and our last time. Ordered graduation cake and brought in pic to model after. While they got pretty close, I was disappointed in the front of cake. The white layer wasn't smooth; the bottom of cake had gold dollops going around and one was missing. Had they not put the signage on front, it wouldn't have been as noticeable. I discovered Annandale Bakery last year when my daughter moved to SI. I love this bakery! All cake, cookies and pastries have always been fresh. The black and whites are delish as well as their 7 layer cookies which were moist and soft. I always pick up a little something for my granddaughter when I'm on the island. They have the cutest Halloween cupcakes and cake pops. Danish are very good, love the cheese and picked my husband up an apple turnover. We've had the blackout cake for his birthday last year. Very disappointed after my experience yesterday. I had ordered a naked cake for my son's cake smash photos. I showed a picture and was told that they could do that. My husband picked up the cake and it's simply not what I ordered. It has white frosting and you cannot see the cake underneath. When I called and spoke to a worker I was told that there's nothing they can do because the cake is too small. That makes no sense to me but I just wish I was informed that they couldn't make what I asked for when I placed the order so I could have made other arrangements or picked a different cake. This cake is heavily featured in my son's first birthday photos and is not what I paid for. I called the day before we were supposed to be in staten Island to order an Italian cheesecake. The nice young lady on the phone checked with someone and then told me no problem and what time it would be ready. We changed our plans to ensure we would be there at the right time. My husband went into the bakery to get the cheesecake and checked to be sure it was correct. It wasn't. It was a regular cheesecake not the Italian cheesecake. They were going to pass along the wrong cheesecake because they said they don't make the Italian one except during the holidays. I love a good rainbow cookie, my favorite dessert but so often no one makes it right. This however didn't look like it was gonna be a winner but I was wrong. Not for nutin' but most of the bakeshops I've tried on The Island have been underwhelming. Not so with this sweet (get it?) little place. Just about all the treats we tried from here tasted as good as they looked. And after a recent visit to a certain venerable Bensonhurst bakeshop that turned out to mostly suck, this was EVERYTHING. Italian pastries that actually taste like someone who cares made them? That alone is worth the Verrazano toll: A Rainbow Cookie Bar, sandwiched with cannoli cream was my favorite out of several things we sampled. The only minor disappointment was Anise Biscotti, but only, I think because hubby got in my head. He insisted it was too soft and more like a Jewish Biscotti, aka Mandelbrot. It was the only flavor available, so I'll concede I wish there had been more variety. So yeah, next time I'm on Staten Italian... err... Special Occasion Cake buyers Beware: On 3/26/22 I ordered a Bridal Shower cake to be picked up on 4/2/22 @ 10:30am. I spent about 40 mins in the bakery going through all the details and placed the order. On 4/1/2022 I tried several times to call the bakery to RECONFIRM THE ORDER & PICK UP TIME, however, Annandale bakery does not pick up the phone & their recording advises you to call back during regular business hours? On 4/2/22 I arrived at 10:25am to pick up my cake only to be told the cake was not ready. I asked how much longer the wait would be? Annandale bakery said they would deliver the cake to the event at 12pm and wanted me to pay before leaving. I advised that when they delivered the cake, they would get paid. I became suspicious that my order was never put in. The cake arrived on time. However, one of the specifications in the order was not met; the sponge cake was to be pink. The sponge cake was yellow not pink which only confirmed my original suspicion that they never even baked a fresh cake. On 4/3 I called Annadale bakery so I could speak to the owner, only to be frustrated with the same voice message. Eventually someone picked up the phone put me on hold & never came back. I hung up the phone & drove to the bakery & asked to speak to the owner and was told no one was on site. To cut to the chase after explaining what transpired, showing my receipt to prove the cake specifications were not met leading me to believe the order was never placed. I asked the salesclerk how you think customers feel that no one answers the phone to confirm or maybe even change the order, her response was we are busy, and we take care of instore customers first! I then asked her is it customary to answer the phone & leave a customer on hold? The salesclerk had little answers and finally said "let me go in the back to speak to my boss" I said to her "you just told me no one was on site" The salesclerk came back and advised me that there was miscommunication on the order date? How I asked? Well, the baker misread the word April, he thought the L in April was a 1 and thought the pickup date was the 12th! No way does this look like a 12 on the receipt I said & you should have called me to confirm the date if you were unsure of the numbers! Had you answered the phone this would have never happened. In closing I asked the sales clerk why her boss didn't come out to speak to me? I guess he couldn't look me in the eye with that story and made you do his dirty work" The salesclerk responded" My boss is disabled he has no legs he can't come out to the front! With that I took my receipt and said tell your boss he just lost a family and extended family of customers, I will never shop there again read more
