Buono Bakery is a Staten Island institution loved for their delicious baked goods. I love stopping by here everytime I'm on the island to indulge in their classic Italian treats. There is so much variety to choose from. They have several cases of freshly churned out desserts, cookies, cakes, pastries and everything in between. The space is small but what a delight to be in! Staff is super friendly and service is efficient. I highly recommend stopping by here and get your hands on their Italian cookies which are my favorite. Buono Bakery on Hylan Blvd is far better than any other bakery I've ever gone to. I see the list of the top 10, been to them all. In my opinion they don't compare to Buono Bakery. I've been to this bakery twice and both times were very poor experiences. The first time I had to order a cake. The women kept going into the back to get my questions answered. She went back forth back forth 5 times. Finally, another woman came out in a huff. Woah... relax. I was half going to leave but then she calmed down took my order for the cake. The cake red velvet and when I tasted it, it was both so sweet and so dry I had to spit it into a napkin. The cake was just awful and a complete waste. No one ate it except the birthday person who requested it. Can't give it one star, I have to give two Bc it's a small business. This bakery is a real underrated gem. It's a small bakery but it punches above its weight. My girlfriend got me a seven layer cake, and it was perfect. Just the right amount of sweet. I've been here several times for cookies and cakes during the holidays and other family occasions. Each time, I haven't been disappointed. One of the best cakes I've bought from here was the Oreo Cheesecake, which was absolutely delicious. Their cookie platters are also great. I stopped by once on Christmas Eve in the early afternoon and there was a very long line as I expected. However, they had free coffee and cookies in the front for everyone waiting on line which I thought was nice. This bakery is a little out of the way for me since I live a few miles south but I keep returning because their pastries are incredible. Here's my review. We've been there TODAY half of an hour ago. Bought pies and pastry. Girl working in bakery said our total is $92. After she saw we are surprised she said sorry it's $55. After we asked her for the receipt she was nervous (which means she knew she was lying)... but she gave the receipt. Then we recalculated piece by piece and voila: the real amount is 40 bucks. Looks like she earn good "tips" on regular basis. And finally she didn't even apologize and wasn't nice at all. 4 stars to bakery and minus 3 stars to employee = 1 star read more

My uncle with his big heart, purchase a custom made cake with a very old picture of my mom when she was two. My uncle is a big fan of this place and brags about there dessert. Very expensive compared to other pastry shops in the area. As an example, the Easter cake was $22 compared to $12 just a few blocks away

I bought a pound of vanilla/chocolate cookies (they look like gingerbread men a bit) and they were really awful compared to other places I've bought them. I can't pinpoint it but there's an oily/greasy taste to them, almost overcooked, that lingers in the back of your mouth - it's not pleasant. Service was prompt and the girls were courteous, I guess it depends on the day you're there looking at the other reviews of this place. It's a shame since I do like to support local bakeries but Bruno's further up Hylan Blvd has a much better selection and the cookies taste like they're supposed to. read more

Not sure why businesses dont understand how important customer service is, the girls in the front are clueless diane from the back is super rude, she rather turn away business than answer questions about her products. Bought a birthday cake through a caterer, frosting was sloppy and it was cracked. This is suprising as she said cakes were made the same day as the affair. Ordered miniature pastries to be delivered the same time as the cake and the chocolate was melted and the cream seemed a bit stale. Frank's the best ... the girls up front are sweet .... the biscotti and pastries are all they should be .... the sesame seed Regina cookies terrific , quarasemale almond biscotti, hard and crunch, are as good as any of the best in NYC and the fig crescent cookies , they melt in your mouth .... highly recommend .... the best huge rum babas, my favorite ... well , it's all my favorite .... great honest Italian baking no pretense .... great people. I was not happy at all. When I walked in, both girls behind the counter had their heads down doing whatever on their mobile phones. I had to approach the girl to tell her what I wanted. I was not acknowledged by either of them until I acknowledged them. I was the only one in the store! The cupcakes were stale, the cream puff and eclair cream was very stiff and not tasty at all. So I ordered a Birthday cake from this bakery on October 13th well in advance of when I needed for Tuesday, October 17. I wanted a specific theme on this Cassada Birthday cake. I proceeded to give the clerk on the phone all the instruction right down to the color of the icing used for the writing of Happy Birthday. When I arrived today, nobody was in the shop other than a young woman behind the counter and said I had ordered a Birthday Cake and she proceeded to the case where ordered items were stored. She showed me this generic cake with summery yellow roses with electric blue icing for the writing that DID NOT look like anything that I had ordered. I asked if they could redecorate the cake but this other olive skinned person came out and said I can't. Mind you it's 3 o'clock in the afternoon. She said the bakers went home. I proceeded to argue about the point of ordering and paying for something you want and this bakery turns around and gives you a generic Birthday cake that was poorly decorated. She said the cake would be on her but after arguing with the woman I said give me the cake as I simply could not order another anywhere for same day. I reluctantly paid the woman and took the cake home. Mind you I had to hear the other half who was whining about what this bakery did for a special event. After having served the cake, it was not like anything that Buono Bakery had done in the past. The cake was dry, had no rum and the cannoli cream was flat. Totally disgusting. Never again for this bakery. What a total waste of money, time; not to mention the aggravation of the end product. I was truly embarrassed to serve this cake. I'd think twice about ordering from this place again. From now on, its back to Villabate/Alba in Bensonhurst. I think this bakery has unfriendly help that seemed quite defensive actually.
