Food's ok and prices are decent but the service seems to be lacking as of late. Was in there for lunch today. After being seated at my table and waiting nine minutes for any kind of service or acknowledgment, I got up and walked out. It wasn't very busy at all and there was staff working, but no one seems to be managing what's going on. Came here for the pastries so I can only opine on those but wow are they delicious. They have tons of options from lobster tails to cupcakes to cakes for affordable prices. We got a collection of items: Lobster tail with french cream - HUGE and filled with cream. Loved how flaky the pastry was and every bit was filled with cream. Chocolate dipped pistachio cookie - delicious! This was my first time trying something like it and I loved how nutty and not too sweet it was. Chocolate covered cannoli - also huge, filled with cream and delicious. We ate it the next day and the shell was still crispy and tasted fresh. I went in to a get a few things this morning and the service behind the counter was absolutely horrible. The girls helping were very sarcastic and arrogant. They need better help. When you work in customer service thats not the way to speak and treat customers. Napkins were left on the counter by the cash register and the girl helping me looked to see if i left her a tip on my card after paying and then said sarcastically, thanks for leaving that there and grabbed it and threw it out yet that was not mine and that was already there from someone else. And then the person behind me online was skipped one or two times so she was looking for someone to help her and she asked one of the girls if she was available because she had been skipped and the girl answered her very sarcastically I'm busy helping somebody else and made a face. I love to get sandwiches, and my favorite is the chicken parm, this time I got it with vodka sauce. The bread is just so unique, phenomenal light crispy outside texture and pillowy inside feel. Definitely the highlight of the sandwich. After all, they are affiliated with Artesian Bakery, which specializes in bread and baked goods. I can't possible overrate their service, they have a well oiled system from the 15+(estimate) kitchen staff mini army to the energetic and quick cashiers. Props to them. Royal Crown. What can you say about it? Other than it is an institution. It's a great place for first dates. It's also a good place for your morning cappuccino and croissant fix. It has one of the nicest bakery windows in the city. Their customer service is a master class on New York City customer service - no nonsense and super efficient. They are my go to example of New York City customer service - lightning fast, 17-year-olds who get you in and out happily. I love it here. This is one of my favorite places in the city. read more

Excellent food. Hands down the best on the Island. BUT the service is severely lacking. The service is bad enough that I don't think I will be coming back because I feel so disrespected. An older waitress by the name of Josephine disparaged me and my young daughter because of the tip we left. She embarrassed us and told us "don't come back until we learn how to tip" I was under the assumption that a 20% tip is pretty generous. I am not the only one to complain about this waitress. Many of my friends and family have complained about her as well. It's a shame because we really love the food and the ambiance but all it takes is one bad apple to spoil the bunch. read more

I went to buy a birthday cake today and the counter girl who served me walked away when I asked her for a bag to put the cake in. So, then I asked the other girl working next to her for a bag and instead of saying she will in a minute or handing it to me she instead says, "I'm with another customer" in a rude tone, so I took my cake and walked out. A friend of mine went there and she had ordered lunch to go, and it was raining so she asked if she could sit and eat her lunch there and they point blank to her no because she did not sit down and order her food. Visiting Royal Crown Bakery with family, was a little skeptical that they would offer any plant-based options. Lo and behold, they had two types of vegan brownies - double chocolate and chocolate peanut butter. Afraid that double chocolate would be too much chocolate I opted for the brownie topped with peanut butter. Packed with flavor and extremely rich, I thought I was eating fudge at first.
