When I got promoted to Lieutenant in fdny I went to the 8th division, which handles Staten Island and parts of South Brooklyn. I worked in Staten Island a few times and the guys would go get sandwiches from here , when we had a busy day. The Prosciutto with Smoked Mozzarella, Roasted Red Peppers and their own Balsamic Glaze is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. They pretty much make everything fresh on site. All I can say is that the sandwich is worth the price. The place is not somewhere you can sit for a lunch , bu5 the little hole in the wall is great for sandwiches. I go there any chance I get and I live in Long Island, border of Nassau and Suffolk County. I would definitely recommend getting a sandwich here. read more

Artisan bakers group is an amazing off the grid sandwich spot. The sandwiches are expensive but you get what you pay for in terms of quality. The inside is small with no seating so don't plan to come and have a family lunch here but there is a bench or two outside. I've never had anything bad from artisan and the people that work there are always nice and load up the fresh mozzarella on the sandwiches. Stop by on a Friday and get the shrimp parm it's amazing. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a good quality lunch spot. read more

I could tell it was going to a 5 star place when I walked in. The counter had a variety of fresh baked pastries, cookies, and cakes. There is fresh pizza with thick dough and an abundance of different sandwiches to choose. I went for my go to Turkey and cheese but after looking at the list I wish I ventured and got eggplant or something else. Regardless, my sandwich was phenomenal. The bread is AMAZING. I grabbed a chocolate filled donut to go, and let me tell you, it delivered. Wow. Best part of my day was finding this spot. It's in an interesting area but well worth but. Place makes the most amazing cold cut sandwiches. Same owners as royal crown so you're getting the same great bread. Ambiance is a little different here. This place is located at the back of an industrial area. It's worth the trip though. Hot pepper spread packs some heat so be sure to get a drink. I've never had a bad sandwich from these folks. You order by number and unlike Burger King you can't have it your way. It's their way or the highway according to the "no substitutions" sign. I would normally not be ok with this but they literally make such a good sandwich they can do what they want and people will keep coming. read more

Sandwiches are okay, but the nasty help doesn't make the trip worthwhile. They're short with the customers and act like they're doing you a favor selling you their overpriced sandwiches. There are better sandwiches in pork stores all around Staten Island with friendly people who actually act like they want you to come back. This is a full on Bread Factory that supplies a lot of the Islands stores and restaurants. The do have a small store front where you can buy a few fresh pastries, breads and a Sandwich. Sandwiches are all a combo of Sopersata, mortadella, Prosciutto, salami, mozz, hot pepper spread, eggplant, artichokes etc you get the gist. They are all numbered and you can't pick say the Prosciutto sopersata Pepper Spread but not balsamic since it's not the menu. This was freaking annoying. The girl had to stand there staring at me staring at the menu while trying to read a 100 different combination instead of just telling her. This does not expedite things this is just dumb. I get when it busy this is a good idea but not when I'm the single solitary customer. I did settle for the #14 PROSCIUTTO SOPRESSATA/MOZZ HOT PEPPER SPREAD $11.50 It was good, crunchy fresh baked bread and nice salty cured meats and very spicy spread but it would have been better if I could've added balsamic or roasted peppers which they have but not in this combination of meat... ridiculous. Randomly in the neighborhood to drop off my son at the paintball place down the street, checked yelp for Italian sandwiches and this did not disappoint. Got #10 sopp/mozz/arugula and #34 for wife Hot Cap/mozz. Unbelievably good sandwiches. Bread was off the hook - super fresh, soft inside, crusty out - they toast it with maybe butter and oregano - kind of like garlic bread. Yeah it's in a random industrial park on the far end of the island. From the outside you'd never know what a gem it is. The sandwich guy wasn't friendly or not friendly just all business. I live 45 minutes away and I am ready to drive back tomorrow to try another sandwich. I need to try more, but after 1, I think this might be top 5 sandwiches in all of NYC. As ABG is also part of the Royal Crown Family, this review is somewhat similar to my review of Filoncino Cafe. ABG has the best sandwiches that I've ever had. I usually get the Hot Capicola, Fresh Mozzarella, and Eggplant, with the Balsamic Glaze that these restaurants are famous for. Definitely make sure you get the balsamic with the sandwich: it is key to the experience. It's a really big sandwich and presents a great value at its $10.5 (Balsamic is 50cents extra) price point. Also they take credit cards (minimum $10) Personally, it's my favorite meal on the island. I've also had the chocolate bread that they make. Again, I think it presents a great value (only like $5-6) and is delicious. Would highly recommend anyone who enjoys both chocolate and good quality bread to try it. Artisan bakery is one of my favorite places on earth. I eat from here so frequently, that when I call my order in they recognize the number and can tell me my order quicker than I can tell them! Extremely professional staff, always quick, always friendly, and the food is indescribably good. You wont understand why it's raved about until you try it. My best recommendation would be the #47, if you think you can handle the hot pepper spread. It's very hard to walk out without buying a fresh cannoli, or rice ball, when they're sitting right there in front of you. Love the place. Alright listen up. This is the scungili cowboy clockin in for his lunch break. I have eaten my fair share of mozzarella and never have I bit into a cloud of soft salty mozz like this. These sandwiches will put you in a coma when that sweet balsamic enters your bloodstream. Getting here is a bit tricky. You get to a light and the GPS says "turn right" (or left if you come from the opposite direction I did) and you think... here? It doesn't even look like a street. Then you drive down and think "this is where people hide bodies." But eventually there are a few shops and finally this place is on the left. Parking is limited, and the area looks very industrial, but I found a spot. Interestingly, there were a ton of luxury cars parked over here too. Ok, onto the food... The #14 was hands down the best sandwich I've ever had. Bread was crunchy and soft at the same time, really amazing. And the reason this is a 5 star review. I also got a large loaf of bread that was excellent, but the website leads you to think there are like 40 bread options and I only saw about 3 to take home. I got some rainbow cookies and cannoli as well. I wasn't a fan of the cannoli cream, but the shell was excellent. The rainbow cookies were a bit dense for me. I'd stick to sandwiches and bread here, other bakeries on the Island are doing a better job. read more

I've tried writing this review 3 times already, and there's just no way to lead into this: This establishment made me the best hero I have ever eaten in my entire life. Every bite was pure perfection, a perfect blend of top quality prosciutto, freshly sliced mozzarella, the perfect amount of hot pepper, drizzled with oil and vinegar, on bread so soft and full of flavor it had to have just come out of the oven and cooled down just before I walked in. Just thinking of this sandwich is making my mouth water, and also making me a bit depressed, since it would be a 60 mile + drive to get one right now. From the outside of this establishment, you would never think that they would have any type of food; it looks like part of a plain commercial office park. However, on the inside is a small but varied assortment of cookies, pastries, and breads. They have a way to go when it comes to decorating the place, but in all honesty their food speaks for itself and they could just leave it the way it is. I don't see how this place won't be a hugely popular stop soon enough. The person working behind the counter was also very nice, I was 75 cents short for a drink to go with my sandwich, and he just told me not to worry about it. read more

I went into ABG for the first time today, and was SO happy I went. Tiny little spot, but I could tell by the breads, balsamic glaze, and cauliflower/broccoli fritters that they were somehow related to Royal Crown, so things were already looking pretty great there. Huge list of sandwiches, but of course I wanted something custom-made, because I'm picky. To their credit, there was a little sign on the wall that said that between the hours of 11-3, the store will not make custom orders (probably to due with high volume-good for them!). Too bad, I thought, since it was 12:30 and I wanted to add artichokes and arugula to the already stated mozzarella, tomato, balsamic sandwich. I asked the person at the counter if adding one or two things to a sandwich was considered "custom," and they politely said yes. I was a little frustrated because I thought I had figured out a perfect sandwich for my taste, but understood, and looked at the menu again and decided to go in a different direction with a #55, with turkey, tomato, arugula, and mayo. IT WAS AWESOME! I know, like what could be so spectacular about a turkey sandwich, right? But seriously, the bread was amazing, and toasted perfectly, without being too crispy to cut the roof of my mouth (big pet peeve), AND they managed to keep the turkey AND mayo cold on the inside. I honestly was blown away by this magic trick of temperature and texture balance. The sandwich was freakin' perfect. Thanks, ABG, for pumping out such high quality food, even if I couldn't order the sandwich I "wanted," I definitely got the sandwich I needed!!! Let it be a lesson to us all that oftentimes, the way an eatery designs a menu, sandwich, cocktail, dish, is the exact way it is intended.
