Man! I'll never do business with Mountain Rentals in Loveland!…read more My kids and I rode our bikes from northwest Loveland to Dairy Queen today, and my son's handlebars needed to be tightened. I have no clue how the Allen screw loosened, but they kept rotating while he was riding. So after getting an ice cream we rode over to Mountain Rentals and I sent him inside to ask to use an Allen wrench. He came back out a minute later and said he couldn't do it. So I went inside and smiled and said, "Hey his handlebars are loose and we would like to just borrow an Allen wrench. We can stand right there by the front door and it will only take like 3 seconds." The dude refused. He said, "The shop tools are only to be used inside the shop, and we don't work on bikes." I'm honestly floored he would refuse. I bet you could walk into 49 other shops with tools and they would gladly offer goodwill to a community member in an awkward situation--potentially dangerous, even.

And I've got to say ( after a long laborious career in retail) - no shop would or should ever take a card number like that over the phone. It's completely illegal and sounds like a major scam for some CU kid to call with a credit card and get a free set up. Moving on.. Back to my bindings. I recently took in my board for a wax and tune up to the dudes at Satellite, and Raul, one of the owners was cool enough to look at my stance after we started talking about our mutual knee and ankle issues. Getting old and still shredding is tough on the body. Raul suggested that after years of riding a really wide duck stance, I should narrow it significantly to reduce the pressure off my outer knees, and also centered my bindings better to make riding over all easier. I've got to say, after riding a bunch of days last week, I was feeling pretty good, and not noticing that same old pain. That's what comes from years of experience and coaching- and buying our products from a shop whose owners actually ride. That's the difference between just buying stuff online without trying it and having it set up properly. Support your local shop and go in and say hi. They want to keep people snowboarding in Colorado and are working hard to do so. Oh, and that dude Aaron with the crazy looking beard is usually pretty nice too, and I hear he gives good hugs? I've easily driven by their shop thousands of times and never payed attention enough to notice their shop... A friend mentioned that I should check them out to get some help with trying to get my new snowboard set up. They are by far the best snowboard/skateboard/sneaker business I've been in. So glad that I found them and I can avoid the large corporate stores that have similar products but lack the expertise and outstanding customer support that Satellite has. Another major plus shopping there is that it's a locally owned business and the money I spend there will stay in our community. Just wish I found them sooner. I highly recommend them, two thumbs up!

I wanted to share my experience with Dick Shinton who is the manager at this fly shop. He donated a…read more1/2 day guide trip to an Orvis event that I won through a raffle. I contacted him to set up the day and we picked a date. The day was coming up and I hadn't heard from him so I emailed him and tried to confirm. He responded saying his boss had had an emergency and he needed to work that day. We rescheduled for August 20 another month out. I confirmed a time and a place to meet. I drive two hours and stayed over night and took the day off work as did my brother. We showed up at the laughing grizzly at 7 am as Dick had set. He never showed up. We waited for an hour and he never came. This is a very poor representation of the shop and very bad customer service. Dick does not follow through or keep his word. I will also contact Orvis and let them know about this. Be aware that if you book a guide trip with Dick, you will have to confirm repeatedly and them hope he shows up. I went to the fly shop to ask him what happened later this day and he said he forgot to tell me he couldn't do the trip again. Wow. So disappointing.

Small town vibe, fair prices, people you wanted to give your money to. That shop is gone. Since the move, the prices have gone through the roof and you get nickel and dimed for everything. I stopped bringing my bike in for tune ups two years ago because the cost stopped making sense. Today sealed it. They charged me $32 to add two links to my chain. That's $20 labor to "install chain" plus $11.98 for two SRAM power links. Thirty two bucks to clip two links on. I get that parts and labor cost money. But this is a shop that has quietly priced out the everyday rider who made it what it was. I live in Erie now and there are better options closer to home. Won't be back. Its too bad, because the owner has always been a great guy when he's around.
