For the long time now i haven't been wanting to write this review because I like the staff. They are so friendly. I keep trying to give them a chance, however, I think it's time. The food is good. You'll love it, I'm sure. But there is something about that "Waguy" meat. It tastes off. And not only that, there is no meat, everything is fat. And not the good fat, I LOVE the fat from steak, this fat is tough and chewy and taste weird. I went to their other location, Fonda Moderna in Tustin, bc their waguy there is actual meat. So tender and delicious. But guess what? They are now using the same meat they use at this location. We had to spit everything out. Sure, we ate the beans and rice and chips and guacamole. The chicken was dry, but still very good. But the "waguy" was all fat and not one you can chew. It was rubber. I don't blame the chefs. I blame management and the people looking at the quality of the meat. The health inspections from both locations makes me nervous too. Nonetheless, the food is good. Service is great from both locations, but careful with the Waguy. read more

Ok yeah the tacos were amazing I absolutely loved how flavorful and mix of flavors it had. Server was great and answered my questions perfectly. Black Opal Tacos 5/5 great starter right amount of chew and softness. Look at the picture tastes how it looks. Waygu beef was amazing. Carne Con Chorizo 5/5 woooo amazing. So this is actually a Filet mignon taco with spicy chorizo bites and honestly i thought it work together amazingly. Spicy fyi but i like the heat. Al Pastor 5/5 now this was interesting how it wasn't chopped into tiny cubes like most places but it was so flavorful and the pineapple was caramelized with the right savory sweetness. Amazing Horchata with Cocoa (I forgot the full name) 2/5 ok this is where I hit a snag. Now the favor is good so I give it that, but it was like drinking sand silt, bad BAD texture it kinda ruined the mood but I paid a-lot for it so it wont be wasted, wasn't cheap. I felt it needed to be more modernized like more liquid and maybe a sprinkle more sugar. The thickness of the silted texture was just ugh. Not recommended. The place was cute and clean which I like. Kinda warm like the AC wasn't turned on higher settings but whatever, electricity is expensive. OVERALL. I would 100% come back, the Waygu cuts is a must have and the tacos were flavorful. The service was great!!! However, the food was very bland and lacked flavor! Not much of a selection on salsas too!! I love my food spicy and having a variety of salsas would have helped! We had the carnitas tacos, and breakfast tacos, again not well seasoned. I've had carnitas in many places in LA and Mexico (Uruapan Michoacán) and these carnitas were not that...even the carnitas in LA were better. On a good note, the chips and guacamole were good! We ordered a bunch of tacos on Sat or Sun night. We walked over from the hospital after spending all day there. Probably would have enjoyed the tacos more if it was under better circumstances. I can't even remember which tacos were what but they had a large portion of meat and the tortilla was good. It's a small spot and a bit warm inside, not sure if they have ac since the doors were open. It was also a little smokey inside, but smelled like delicious meat on the grill. read more

I love their enchiladas here. The salsa they make is really bright in color and extremely flavorful. Parking is tough but hey first come first serve. It's a nice hole in the wall with yummy food. All of the employees are so sweet and English/Spanish bilingual. read more

Took my mom out here since she was craving Mexican food. Found this spot through Yelp and noticed it was popping and popular so we went to give it a try. The lady who served us was kind and polite; didn't rush us at all. We ordered their famous Chilaquiles and a beef burrito. The food presentation is nice and the color scheme makes it look delicious, however, the flavor did not go well with our palate. The burrito was humongous, but it tasted pretty basic. The spicy sauce wasn't that spicy. We could have brought our own sriracha bottle for a little kick lol, but that's not authentic. I really wanted to like this spot based from the good reviews, but it wasn't meeting my expectations. I would be a liar if I was to give it a 4/5 at most if I do say so myself. We didn't finish our food and took it for Togo. If you want to give this place a try, I'm not stopping you alright. I might taste better to other people, but it's not my cup of tea. Found this new spot and wanted to bring my son for one of his favorites chilaquiles verdes walked first parking was limited but we got a front spot so that was nice small location but as soon as we walked in we were welcomed and directed to order at the counter by one of the workers the other worker which was the one that took our order recommended a hibiscus strawberry agua Fresca sweetened with agave which was delicious son ordered his fav and I ordered their chilaquiles divorciados both did not disappoint love the service and the ambiance will be coming back and I highly recommend you give a try read more

The Friend... The Best Friend.... The talk on the phone all night, Friend.... And best of all, the sleep over your house when we're all adults already, Friend.... This is Her Friend, and although I like her, she is not my friend, respectively speaking of course. But when I woke up this fateful Sunday morning and walked into the living room, I saw her, sprawled about my couch, moments from waking up and wondering where her next meal would come from. I had to think quick but it was Sunday and I was in the midst of an alcohol fog. I was too late! The Friend had woken up and I had already made eye contact. There was nowhere to hide and no way out of this already destined Sunday adventure. "Where we going for lunch?" she managed to get out over a yawn. As I mentioned before, I was still in a fog and although my response should have been a place with a drive-thru window, even that simple knowledge was not available to me at the moment and instead I blurted out the first food related name I could think of and shouted, "Anepalco?" The Friend nodded with mean approval, so me, my lady and The Friend were off to what my wallet would call, "a not excessive but pricey for what it is meal." The silver lining to this whole situation was that the food was indeed delicious. Ordering anything with the mole is going to be magical on your tastebuds, especially with the enchiladas. Been coming here for years, and definitely not a fan of the new 'upgrades'. Others who maybe coming to Anepalco for the first time may think it's ok. But for us, everything tastes slightly different, and not in a good way. The food was less flavorful and saltier. Some favorites were taken off the menu, and the coffee is lacking. Used to be a lot better before. Even the new seats are uncomfortable metal seats that are not inviting. I would say though that the new mint green color is pretty. I miss the old flavors and old staff and the more comfortable seats. Will likely not be coming back. The old Anepalco is gone, the 'upgrades' are really downgrades, sad. read more

We each ordered a burrito and all three were almost inedible. 90% rice with 5% meat 5% beans is not good from any angle. Yes, the rice was decent. Yes the meat was tender. Came here for breakfast. The place is cozy and clean The staff was very welcoming and helpful. We tried the watermelon aguafresca upon their recommendation. For entrees we ordered horchata french toast and chilaquiles with asada. Watermelon Aguafresca- This was sweet and refreshing. The watermelon flavor was distinct and it was served ice cold. Horchata French Toast- This has a lovely cinnamon flavor with a creamy horchata sauce. A tasty sweet dish! Chilaquiles with Asada- We were able to get this with combination sauce. Anepalco never misses. The chilaquiles were so good and the Mexican mocha made with Abuelita chocolate was pure comfort. I couldn't decide which type so I tried the divorciados which is both salsas ! We also tried the Burrito del Norte. The meat was so savory. Parking is limited, but totally worth it if you're in Orange. We went early during breakfast and it was perfect timing right after, it packed up fast. There are two locations; this was the smaller one and it's such a cute, cozy little brunch spot. read more

The place is tiny however beautifully decorated. They do have a small menu. The service was a bit slow. We had to sinuously wave down the server. We never got water, even though. When the food arrived, the flavor was OK. It was anything extravagant and they don't offer any extra condiments which sucked because some of the food you get extra flavor overall, the place was OK. This is a great restaurant to visit with your family and friends. We had a delicious brunch. The food was seasoned well and very balanced tasting. We enjoyed the Guava French toast and green chilaquiles. I wished the French toast was more soft and fluffy, rather than dense. Our toddler's mac n cheese was very simple, but still tasted good. I usually don't go for chilaquiles often but I heard this place had top notch chilaquiles; both great presentation and taste! We came on a Thursday morning and this place was already packed. It is a very small restaurant with limited parking so I can definitely see this place even more packed on the weekends. We all ordered 4 dishes to share: Horchata French Toast, Guava French Toast, Green Chilaquiles, and Chilaquiles (red) w/ carnitas. Both french toast tasted really good; not too sweet. I really enjoyed the red chilaquiles with carnitas more than the green but maybe because we added meat to it hehe. The presentation of the chilaquiles was perfect, topped with egg, pico de gallo, avocado, cojita, and cream...it was too perfect to eat. Overall service and food were great. The staff is very kind and the food was good. The chilaquiles came with red and green salsa which made them very flavorful but the carne asada was too tough which is why I gave it a 4/5 stars. The horchata french toast was delicious. It was not too sweet which I appreciated. I just wish it came with some more fruit. Order at counter and take a seat. Interior has been remodeled so for me the ambience is very different. I've eaten here quite a few times and this change is hard. Edm music and cheap matching tables. Feels like an airport cafe. Food presentation is different. Chilaquiles were the best I ever had but now come in a bowl. First time here to the Main Street location. I've been to the Old Town Orange location years ago. I remember it being very, very good. But just never made my way back. So this morning, my friend wanted me to try the Main Street Anepalco location since she loves their chilaquiles. I asked the nice waitress if she recommended the Huevos Perdidos or the Huevos Divoricados. I'm not Hispanic / Mexican so I have no idea what these dishes are, but I liked the ingredients in both. She recommended the Perdidos. Wow. Probably one of the best and unique dishes I have had in a long time. It was hearty, a bit spicy (which I like) but also so freaking flavorful! It has duck and poached eggs and the bread they provided with the meal was perfect for the dish. I soaked the bread in the stew and ate it together, and at times I scooped the broth up with a spoon and devoured it. It was excellent! I am beginning to crave it again as I write this. I will definitely be back. I highly recommend this dish. My friend's chilaquiles was also delicious and prepared in such a unique way, that it didn't look like typical chilaquiles dish. Mediocre meal. For an $18 dollar sandwich anyone would expect something decent. Black beans in it? The Guava flavor was sweet and full, not overpowering whatsoever. The bread was soft, the fruit was fresh, and the coconut flakes add a great little crunch. The mix of all came together very well. The omelette's short rib was soft, pulled apart, and was accompanied by flavor galore. The tomatillo sauce and cotija cheese blend complimented the meat to create a fully realized omelette. The bread goes great together with its more salty addition. The ambience was very homely and welcoming. The staff were so pleasant and joyous which added to the overall amazing experience.
