I love their breads and pastries! I've had their cheese Danish, Apple Danish, jalapeno cheese loaf, international cheese loaf and their pisano. Allllll were super delicious and fresh tasting. The downside is the customer service! Not really "rude" but definitely on the verge! First of all he put each of my 4 items in a separate bag. Hella silly! We were never, EVER acknowledged, then the person behind the counter walked over to someone who came in AFTER us, and took care of him!! Totally unacceptable "service", if you want to call it that. I love Andersen's bakery. This is a good location and has plenty of seating. The workers are friendly and the place is always clean. Lately I have been coming in to get the BBQ Chicken sandwich on maple wheat loaf. Its delicious! Cant get enough. You must try their creamy french! Its a nice dessert bread or a good snack. I got an iced coffee here that was HUGE. I would have rather had a smaller better tasting one but this is a bakery, not a cafe, so I dont blame them on having subpar coffee. I love Andersen bakery! It used to be Grain D'or years ago and it's been a favorite for my family since then. This is a great lunch or casual date spot. They have the freshest bread and all of them are tasty. I recommend the turkey pepper jack panini, oat nut cookies and a cup of joe, but check them out for yourselves. This one is located in a shopping center so parking can be a little tight and they do get a lunch rush, but call ahead or stop by anyway. Worth the wait. read more

Doing some errands in the area, I totally forgot about lunch. Sometimes I wish I was French so I could get those 2 hour lunch breaks... Driving around the Union Landing area, I discovered Andersen Bakery tucked into the corner of small businesses in front of Walmart. Coming up to the door I spotted an AT&T WiFi hotspot sticker -- yay! Free WiFi is always a big plus in my book. Walking through the doors a pale faced lady helped me at the cashier. Honestly she kind of scared me. Her cold gaze was something that Dwight (The Office) would serve up. Because of a bunch of TV dinner commercials, I somehow had a hankering for a grilled panini; thus I ordered a prosciutto artichoke panini ($6.25, eeh). The panini came quicker than a dirty Chinese restaurant. My first reaction was mixed. The panini looked really good yet a bit small. It's a little bigger than an open-faced Nintendo DS or two classic-sized Ipods (too much gadgetry?). The plate is extremely big for the portions and it isn't garnished with anything except for an average pickle. The panini was ooey gooey goodness. I was really satisfied with the flavors and construction. The sandwich is composed of crust-free buttered panini bread with great grill marks, good amount of artichoke, somewhat thin usages of prosciutto, sliced tomato, confetti sliced dark green lettuce, melted mozzarella cheese and a subtle use of mayo. This really hit the spot. I found myself to be satisfied with the portion size since the buttered bread and cheese filled me up. The pickle was a nice touch. If this dish were to be a complete hit for me, it'd probably be in the form of some fruit. A small vine of grapes, a handful of strawberries, or a mixed fruit cup would totally balance this meal. The interior design of this place is based on baguette brown tones. The walls are orange brown while the rest of the furniture is exposed sand-color wood grain. Although there isn't much to the design, it achieves a kind of zen like atmosphere; albeit one similar to a hospital. The floor to ceiling windows with shades allow a good amount of light to flood the bakery/cafe. Andersen's was likely speckled with customers. While there was some soft pop-jazz music in the background. the noise was pretty minimal. I could easily see myself reading a book here...but why do that when you have WiFi? WiFi connection is average speed. At first I had a little trouble connecting but nothing to stress out about. __ I would return again. I'm not sure what everyone is talking about in relation to the service. Hopefully I won't have to update my review to a lower rating. **Update** 06/05/08 Okay, David H. is right with the manager servicing/sucking-up to the older business looking people. She walks around with a sample plate trying to chat it up, but doesn't even make an effort to go meet the younger crowd. How biased. I walked right past her with the plate and she didn't even look at me. Nonetheless service was super quick. I barely even waited 3 minutes to receive my food. Look out for the salads because they put too much dressing on it. Pretty good size, but a bit pricey. Still an okay place for lunch. read more

If you like cheese and bread, get the international cheese bread. It will change your life. I promise. It's changed mine completely. I now divide my life into two periods, before international cheese bread and after. Get it sliced & toasted and eat it there. When they toast the bread, they put it into a pannini press so it creates those beautiful grill marks. The outside is lightly toasted but the inside stays so incredibly soft. The cheese is partially melted and the grease oozes onto the bread. It's breathtaking..no like literally sometimes I forget to breath because I'm inhaling the bread so quickly read more

I ordered the pick two 1/2 sandwich with side ceasar salad. It didn't come with a pickle I asked for one and it's an extra charge for a damn pickle, WOW. I've only had the blueberry muffin which is awesome and the hot chocolate which is not the best, but I get it because I like hot chocolate with my muffin. Whenever I come in it's always the same girl at the register... She's a nice girl but her as well as everyone else that works here customer service totally sucks. This is now my third or fourth time going to this place and each time, I've experienced the same exact customer service. The customer service here definitely would make a person not want to return, the employees come off as being somewhat rude. They don't greet you and they act as if you're bothering them or something. I also noticed each time I've come in and ordered hot chocolate, I usually have to wait 7-10 minutes for it. Overall this bakery is good, and clean but customer service is horrible. The food here is good. The service, not so much. I came in today as soon as they opened and was made to feel like I was asking for too much while placing my order. The guy behind the counter kept telling me everything was going to cost extra. When I said I'm fine with that he said "well, it's $1.20 more"... Okay, so would you prefer it if I go and buy my own avocado across the street and do it myself? Also, the place just opened but the tables still had crumbs on them from the previous day, so I cleaner my table myself. He was tailgating vehicles and moving in and out of lanes unnecessarily. Management needs to have a sit down with the dude and teach him about safety. I really like their sandwiches (mainly the chicken salad one and the turkey/avocado). They are the tastiest around here! However, some days when they seem to be understaffed, the service can be a slow. This is a popular place so they should hire enough people for peak times like lunch. But my biggest gripe is the restroom. It never looks very clean, there is often something missing like paper towels, and it just puts me off. This restaurant is a lot bigger and has a more modern feel than the one in Milpitas. Even at 1pm, there was a long ling of people ordering food. - Chicken Avocado Sandwich: for about $8, there wasn't anything spectacular about this sandwich. Their sandwiches are bigger than Panera Bread's sandwiches though. - Raspberry Cream Cheese Pastry: $2.45 each. These are delicious! - Saffron Raisin Twist Pastry: $2.45 each. My family always picks some of these up. Items here are a little pricey, but I think the pastries are worth it if you want to treat yourself! read more

Decided upon luncheon out with my friends. I always wanted to try out Andersen Bakery since they have an inviting location. For those people who like to use the internet wherever they are at, Andersen offers the AT&T wifi. I had gotten an Any Two deal where you can pick from any half-signature sandwich, any soup, or any salad. I had gone with a tuna salad sandwich on 9-grain bread and a grilled chicken salad. Andersen for those people also has a sweet tooth there a decent selection of deserts such as crème brume le and tropical puddings. My meal came out quite quickly, and very much to my surprise the salad was very good. I was actually expecting the chicken in my salad to be very dried and gosh, but it was juicy and tender! Besides the lettuce in the salad there were also crouton as expected from a bakery. The 9-grain bread on my tuna sandwich was quite good also. It came in with the typical lettuce and ripe tomatoes. Everything in my meal is quite fulfilling. Definitely coming back here again. 4 Stars! read more

The wife and I stopped off at Andersen Bakery when we are in Union Landing and have the munchies. We came here when we wanted a light afternoon snack. The one item that I like about Andersen Bakery vs Panara Bread, is that they are a Bakery first. They have a good selection of breads to choose from and at a reasonable rate. The breads here taste much better than what you can get vs a Super Market Bakery. The one downside about this place, while they do have the baking breads part down right, when it comes to the deli selection, they are just limited and really don't compare to Panara Bread. Overall if you're looking for baked goods, a decent enough stop over the stuff in the super market. read more

Super bummed, they no longer have the cold RB sandwich on the menu, When I asked if they could just make a non-toasted RB sandwich I was told no, they could only do the one that is on the new menu. So I ordered a Chicken Salad and Turkey and Brie with Onion Jam. There is ZERO Brie on my sandwich and hardly any Onion Jam. I'll stick to the Cheese Breads and Bread Loafs from now on. This place can be hit or miss. I enjoy the breads they serve (especially the International Cheese & Creamy French), and the soups are typically good... the sandwiches are OK. They can be a bit on the expensive side for a small-ish sandwich. I typically now get the 1/2 soup 1/2 sandwich meal.. which always fills me up. I learned recently they changed up their soup menu (HOW DARE THEY?!) and removed the tomato basil ravioli soup.... and replaced it with a chicken tortilla.. The new soup is ok, nothing to rave over, but I've got to say that their clam chowder has improved, and I'm a huge clam chowder fan. Their staff is pretty decent. Whenever I find myself hungry and in Union City, my go-to place is usually always Andersen Bakery. I'm a huge sandwich fan and they never disappoint. I've tried both the veggie feast and the grilled eggplant sandwich [always on sourdough, mmm...]. I would definitely stick with the veggie feast. Always cool, crisp veggies with their delicious dijon/ mayo. I can't get enough [and now I want one...]. As for their pastries - I haven't tried very many of them, but when I do decide to "be bad," I'm never disappointed. I've had the creamy french, eclair and something sweet with raspberry... I liked the creamy french the best. They also sell their breads so I always come home with a loaf of cinnamon bread or sourdough or something. I can't resist! read more

I'm going to have to say whoever said that to me....you were wrong. they have interesting selection, the menu is sort of confusing and there are I guess 2 lines? one for the bakery and one for the sandwiches, etc. but what if you want both? this was a cool spot..finally another andersens that wasnt in the mall..i ordered the turkey panini which was something new since every andersens is a franchise and they can basically add what they want to their menu..i do reccomend this because it was really goood... HOWEVER.... i also ordered a ice latte..AND to my surprise.....as i was about to sip the straw...i found BRIGHT RED LIPSTICK on the rim of my cup....grosss!!!!! this made me question the sanitary conditions of this location...i felt like my meal should have been free because i was horrified! read more

I was given the task earlier this week by my employer to secure pastries for a customer meeting. The girl working there was very helpful, fast, and friendly. I told her that I didn't really know what to get, and she didn't even bat an eyelash. Five minutes later, I was headed out the door with a bag packed with my box of treats, plates, napkins, and even little bags of cookies for the staff to enjoy. I purchased a bacon and cheese pastry for myself and it was delish. (I don't even really like bacon, usually) I heard from my manager and CEO that they make pretty good sandwiches, too.
