I stopped by at Andersen Bakery at Oakridge Mall to treat myself for dessert. This place doesn't disappoint! I arrived around 6PM and if you want to get close to this, you want to park at the area close to 99 Ranch. This bakery is conveniently located in the mall. Since it was near closing, there was not a lot of cake options. I bought the chocolate ganache cake slice and the server was very quick. The cakes are around $5~7, which is very affordable! The cake was delicious and tasty. I can't imagine a better way to spend my Sunday evening. There are plenty of tables you can sit at. You can watch people walk by. read more

I stopped by today, for the first time, to my surprise bakery bag that I ordered through Too Good To Go. Andersen bakery is located in the Oakridge Mall. It is close to 99 Ranch Market. I showed my payment and order number, in the App, to the employee at the register. She knew about the surprise bag and brought out to me. I thanked her and decided to look at their other offerings. They have a lot of pastries, sweet and savory and freshly made breads. They also sell sandwiches, cakes by the slice and whole cakes. The pastries, breads and cakes are displayed lovely in their glass cases. They have tables in front of their store to enjoy your purchases. My surprise bag contained two cheese breads, melon pan, chocolate croissant and a cream cheese raspberry pastry. I really enjoyed the cheese bread and my hubby enjoyed the chocolate croissant. Who doesn't like Andersen Bakery around here? They're usually busy with lots of customers. Dutch & Japanese pastries/breads/cakes all look and tastes great. This Andersen Bakery is inside Westfield shopping center Oakridge Mall in South San Jose. It's not a cafe shop or bakery shop setup. It's a stand/small storefront, but with a few tables and chairs to relax at. Staffs are helpful, welcoming, and friendly. What I like about Andersen Bakery is the more affordable menu selections, whether beverages/soups/sandwiches/salads/cakes/pastries/etc. It's a very casual place easy to spot at a distance from the 99 Ranch grocery store here. Their pastries at most locations are pretty decent and good in freshness and quality. Everything is good. I had a slice of strawberry shortcake $5.35 and a cup clam chowder $5.45 today. Not bad at all. I was fully satisfied to have found a seat to enjoy my delicious small bites. It was plenty for a good morning walk around here. The toast bread and butter came with the clam chowder, so that was great. Good smooth & soft butter. Very simple stop. I've had many half soups & half sandwiches before. Came late morning , picked up an order of assorted items that were randomly selected. All were chilled but after reheating them at home them all came out really good , specifically the cheese bread loaves were really rich but had a really nice end flavor . YUMMM oh my goodness, luckily the prices are a bit steep, otherwise I would be buying everything every time I went into the store lol. Yesterday I bought a piece of heart marzipan Kringle and it was obnoxiously good, the flakes melt in your mouth and the marzipan is a dream. I ordered a chicken salad on ciabatta.. I took my sandwich to go and when I got home and unwrapped it sadly it was a turkey sandwich. Disappointing! I was waiting in the "Enter here" line, when someone went up straight to the register and the idiot working there served them first, totally ignoring the waiting line. That should never happen. This is a pretty yummy pastry spot in Oakridge mall... I got this strawberry pastry and it had a sweet custard in the middle. The strawberries were surprisingly SUPER fresh, and I enjoyed it as a whole. For $4.50, it was pretty good. Not the most stellar pastry of course, but it was still enjoyable. The whole experience was nice because it's a nice clean shop with seating area, and the staff seemed friendly. I hope to come back and try some other bakery items sometime! read more

Hmmmm...the choux cream in their creamy French has changed and not for the better. Tastes almost like it's been blended with shortening. A lot of shortening. What a shame...for $3.99 per piece, it was already pricey and filling amount had always been inconsistent in past (barely filled some days), but the taste and texture has completely changed. The good: My family has been coming to Anderson Bakery (in the Great Mall) ever since it was formerly Grand 'Dor. My go-tos are the international cheese bread and creamy French bread. Tip: toast it when you get home because it makes it 10x better. I got their half loaf of sourdough bread for $6 and thought it was delicious (toasted as well). I also enjoy their almond croissant-like pastries and fruit pastries. This place is located inside a mall and there is seating outside of it. They also serve cake and rolls. I tried the berry cake roll and it was delicious. It wasn't too sweet and the berries added a nice acidity and freshness. I would order it again. I liked that they had Easter themed pastries as well for the upcoming holiday. I enjoy their berry croissants as well. It's the only place I've seen sell this. They have seating areas right in front. The bad: They don't cut breads for you anymore like they used to (the creamy French and international cheese bread for instance) due to being short staffed. The Easter themed almond tart was just okay. The interesting: They had a poster advertising Asian pastries they sold like Chinese buns. Hey Andersen Bakery management, I thought I'd leave a review here in case anyone wanted to file an incident report related to the hand sanitizer bottle filled with pure bleach at your register today. Yep, I sanitized my hands with pure bleach. I called and spoke to a staff member who confirmed it was filled with bleach and she offered me a free sandwich if I came back. I probably won't be coming back, but thanks anyway. Poor girl didn't know what to do. At least she was very apologetic. I was in shock at the time so I didn't say this to her, but yeah, probably should train staff to file an incident report when an incident happens. For next time. A few other suggestions- check the cameras to see who is responsible and whether there are any other victims. If it's staff, y'all probably need to investigate how the hell this happened. If it was a prank, maybe call the cops. Thanks! P.S: after washing my hands for god knows how many more times, my hands STILL smell strongly of bleach. And my skin hurts cause my hands are so dry. After a long, long break from this place, I couldn't help but give it another go. With my most recent visit, there wasn't a single fly, the pastry case looked very clean, and the line moved fairly quickly. My go-to items are the cream cheese walnut pastry & the turkey, avocado, & swiss sandwich [on sourdugh]. These never fail me and always hit the spot at all|any hours of the day. 3.5 stars because my sandwich was really good. The sandwich was filling and delicious. Sourdough bread was crusty on the outside but chewy on the inside- I drool just thinking about it. Customer service was okaaaaay. I purchased a chocolate croissant today and it was hard as a rock. I had to go back and return it as it was absolutely inedible. They did replace it with a fresh and soft one.
