I have been here three times and 1) have always been seated at the same table and 2) have always ordered the carnitas plate because they are so darn good!!! Luckily I've had the opportunity to try some other bites of things. Everything is good here, that we've tried, although my husband said his tamale on his combo plate was sort of dry. Definitely get the guacamole, chips and salsa. The green salsa is amazingly fresh and outstanding! We were saying we'd like to either have a recipe or buy a bottle of it! The guacamole was also fresh and delicious. One time it was made table side, and another it was just delivered, so I'm not sure what the different menu items were. Really good and interesting drinks also. I've heard the bartenders can mix up creations to order, but we've been happy with the items on their menu. Beautiful main room, then a large side room-for larger parties perhaps? There is also outdoor seating. Several nights we were there, they had live music which is so rare! I first tried Anayas over a year ago, while on a first date. My girlfriend and I still think back fondly of our experience there. The atmosphere both inside and outside of the restaurant was very nice, great for a first date. The food was alright, nothing exciting but "safe" for a first date. The Pollo Con Mango was ok, but didn't really taste of mango. And it's for that reason that I haven't been inspired to return. But recently, I decided to give Anayas a second try. On my second visit, I ordered El Mexicano Burrito, a grilled angus steak burrito with refried beans, fresh onions, and cilantro, topped with mozzarella cheese and salsa. The quality of the ingredients was great but the burrito was just ok. The salsa was pleasantly acidic but unfortunately not spicy. The cheese and beans were creamy and helped cut the acidity of the salsa that topped the burrito. Together, the flavors were all very pleasant, I just wish there was a little more spice. Overall, I'd come back but probably try a different dish. read more

Made reservations on a week night and it wasn't busy so didn't even need one. We were sat right away and were helped shortly after. We ordered the asada burrito, asada taco plate, and the chicken flautas. Food took a little long to come, for it not to be that busy, and our server was caught up talking to the manager when we needed a couple of refills for our drinks, so that was a little disheartening but for the most part, she was ok. To me, the asado taco plate was just OK. The Asada wasn't very flavorful at all especially how expensive the plate was. I would've definitely liked a less bland Asada. My husband said he liked his Asada burrito and my dad was neutral about the chicken flautas. Overall just OK Mexican food for me. First time visiting this restaurant for my sister's birthday and we had a great experience. I ordered the garlic shrimp and, to my surprise, it wasn't the traditional style drowned in garlic butter sauce. The dish had its own unique flavor and was very tasty. We stopped in for lunch today during our visit to the Pasadena Art Walk. We were given a flyer at the art walk and were told certain businesses had promotional coupons going on. Anaya's had one for a free agua Fresca or margarita "with the flyer or sticker" that was stated on the flyer. Our waitress told us we needed both the flyer and sticker. I further questioned this at the host table and was again told "yeah the manager wants people to have both sticker and flyer." I didn't see any stickers handed out at the Art Walk. Needless to say the service was also very slow and at one point a homeless man walked thru the patio yelling racial slurs. The food was REALLY good, one of the best Pozole I've had...maybe it was an off day or just poor communication on the drink coupon. read more

Inviting ambience- I love the interior decoration, from the art displayed on the walls to the lighting fixtures and huge cushioned booths. The customer service is friendly and the food was delicious. I ordered the green chicken enchiladas with all Spanish rice paired with a classic margarita- yum. The food was prepared with skill and close attention, absolutely tasty. The pricing is higher compared to surrounding Mexican restaurants however the restaurant is located in Old Town Pasadena so that may be a contributing factor. When you make a reservation 1 month in advance you would think you had nothing to worry about. Right...??? WRONG! Our party arrived on time for our 6:30 reservation and we were still outside waiting in the cold at 7:20 pm without an apology or concern that they were not honoring our reservation. TLDR: Very unfortunate experience here on Cinco de Mayo. They did not honor our reservation - even though I had made reservations in advance A MONTH AHEAD OF TIME on April 7th - I double checked my confirmation. Staff were nice and I understand it's a busy holiday but what ended up happening is they double booked it seemed like. Which left us in quite a pinch with such a large party - trying to find somewhere to eat after waiting almost an hour! I did my best to be prepared with our huge group - called a whole month ahead to secure a table - easy process. Received confirmation via text. I also called and spoke to them several times over the course of the month to update our final group number - even spoke to them around 430pm day of and they confirmed that our reservation was good to go. Our reservation was for 630pm. I arrived at 6pm just to make sure all would go smoothly since we had such a large party. Was told at 6pm that our table wouldn't be ready until our time of 630pm which is understandable. I asked again at 635pm - table still wouldn't be ready for another 10 minutes. Asked again at 645pm - table wouldn't be ready - they said they were "just waiting for the other large party to leave" bc that's where we would be sitting. Asked again at 7pm - still not ready. When I asked how much longer, they said at least 30 minutes or more bc they're waiting for the other large party to "finish up and leave". They showed us the table and that other party HAD NOT EVEN ORDERED THEIR FOOD YET??!! It looked like they had just been sat - still had all their menus and no food. Finally around 710pm I checked one last time and still no table and the other party they were waiting on to "finish up and leave" still hadn't even ordered their food lol. So at the last minute we had to scramble to find somewhere that could take such a large party on a busy holiday. Gross mismanagement- I could understand if we had just shown up and had not been actively preparing for this a whole month in advance - they really should've just been honest with us instead of having us waiting around for an hour with no end in sight. read more

The food once again never disappoints us. I had the Carnitas de Lechon a la Pibil and it was recommended by our waiter Beli. Let me tell you the meat was so tender you didn't need a fork to cut into it. The carnitas has so much flavor and was absolutely amazing. My husband had the El Me I and stray burrito and it looks as good in the picture. Stray was very tender and the sauce was very flavorful as well. Our waiter Beli really went out of his way to recommend and explained the flavors of the food on the menu. Very impressive I must say. We also had the house margaritas. Can I say how delicious they are... they make their own margarita mix and you can rate it. I get mine on the rocks holding the salt and. My husband has the same with the salted rum. Decided to come try Anayas with a few friends after a class and it was the best decision! We were sat promptly and taken care of by David! He was warm and professional while taking care of our large group ! He offered us the happy hour menu and we started off with a few items. We also ordered a pitcher of margarita! I really love the consistent quality of food and service. I came for happy hour and the mango margarita was so yummy. It didn't have an overwhelming alcohol taste and it was the perfect balance of sweet. The appetizers are all a treat. I haven't tried them all but the ones I have tried deserve a round of applause. The plantains were my favorite because they were actually ripe! The flautas were bursting with flavor I was pleasantly surprised. I had low expectations for popcorn shrimp but it was bomb! Service was friendly and I really wish I could give them a glowing review but the food wasn't good and for 100 dollar lunch for 2, expectations are high. The Mrs had a greasy taco meal. Stopped in for some lunch after a day of shopping at a vintage event in Glendale. We were greeted by a very nice hostess and immediately sat, which was nice. The restaurant decor was nice, I loved the paintings on the wall and numerous TVs which made it easy to watch the NFL playoffs. We ordered the cheese enchiladas and chicken taquitos. Both were good, the downfall was the rice which was overcooked and slightly mushy. The beans were bland and didn't taste fresh. The drinks were recommended by our server, both were enjoyed, I would definitely come back for drinks. For dessert we chose the lava cake. The star of this dish was definitely the ice cream. My coworkers and i went back for lunch and were very disappointed. The service has gone downhill and the prices are so high drinks are at 17.50 those are vegas strip prices, the one thing that truly bothered me was the charge on our bill named red sauce $17.00 , when we asked the server said it was for the salsa, its one thing to pay high prices for drinks but for salsa its too much. We don't need special treatment but if we are paying over $250 for lunch , it would be nice to not be charged for salsa for the table. We will not be coming back again, the food is good but those those hidden charges are just not okay. read more
