When I arrived and parked there were multiple signs saying that this is a high vehicle burglary area and that you should lock your car and remove all valuables. Then as I approached the cafe (where I wanted to dine on the patio because I had my small dog with me) I realized that they have a wall of shrubs which blocks the view from the patio to where your vehicle is parked. I completely understand that and it definitely makes the patio seem more private and lush. It also helps with the noise factor, but I would be fibbing if I didn't admit it made me a bit nervous not being able to see my vehicle. I went inside the cafe to ask about being seated on the patio and was told to to sit wherever I liked. There was only one customer inside the cafe when I arrived. The patio itself is lovely, with lots of seating and music playing. It gets a bit dirty out there though, so I had a few marks on my pants from the chair when I got up to leave. Service was "relaxed" . It took a bit to get the menus and then to get the order in. A couple who arrived after me was seated, ordered and got their food around the same time as I did, however, their waitress brought out their check and returned it to them, while mine never came back and ultimately, after that couple left, I decided to go inside to see and pay my bill. There were only two customers inside when I left so it definitely wasn't an oversight because they were too busy but I still gave a large tip. I didn't so much mind never being checked on, but being completely forgotten at the end did not feel great. I also appreciate when businesses don't rush you, but there is definitely a difference between the two. As for the food, I sampled several items. The lamb shoulder pappardelle had a very nice flavor on its own. Unfortunately, the huge chunks of lamb felt very out of place. I fed most of them to my pup, who quite enjoyed the lamb. The poached apricot toast was probably my favorite dish. Apricot slices over truffled goat cheese with a red wine reduction and a pistachio and basil relish. It was sharp and flavorful and I enjoyed every bite. I also sampled the Araceli sliders and truffled garlic fries. The sliders were just okay for me. They were a little dry and I think some sort of condiment or sauce would have made a big difference. I also removed the pepperoncini because they were rubbery and the wrong texture for sliders. The fries were fine, but be prepared to have serious garlic broth for a while. I liked the cafe and will probably come back again. The outdoor space here definitely has a lot of potential, but I would most likely bring something to wipe down my seat first with me. I would also hope for some more attentive service, but in general the servers I interacted with were both very nice. Hopefully my next experience here will be even better and I can update my review.

I paid $11.50 at the time for the food and I did feel it was a pretty filling meal - I had trouble finishing off all of it since I tend to eat smaller than what are standard US portion sizes. I thought the food was pretty good, burger had been cooked fresh in front of me and the fries are also crispy and not too soft. If you're looking for their up-to-date restaurant/food hours, I'd recommend looking at the Faculty Club website; I'm assuming the Yelp hours show it's open 24 hours just because the venue can be booked at other times of day. I've also been here once for a retirement gathering and they do have outdoor patio space. However, there are multiple entrances to the building so you might have to walk around it a bit to find the right opening if not all doors are unlocked. Google Maps wasn't that great for navigating here either.

Most notably, it's: * A place to eat and drink; * A venue to rent out for events; and * A place to spend the night. I ate and drank there* but I also spent the night there and that's the reason for my 3-star rating and the focus of this review. The Faculty Club rents out rooms, some with private bath and some with communal bath, all situated along a long hallway up a set of stairs. If you've drank too much below, are in town to visit a student at UCB, or are just hankering to spend the night on campus it's not a bad option. The rooms for rent are functional (not fancy) and clean (but not new). "Utilitarian" is an apt description. A friend and I stayed in a room with 2 beds and its own bathroom and shower at a cost of $215. Rooms with shared baths are (obviously) less and an additional $15.40 will buy you a parking pass valid until 2 p.m. the following day at a nearby, on campus lot. I don't track the cost of lodging in the Bay Area but this rate seemed reasonable, especially considering the inclusion of a continental breakfast for 2 the following morning. Before falling asleep the night of my stay my friend wondered whether the Campanile's toll would wake us. Fear not; it didn't. Instead, 52 beeps from a garbage truck backing up was followed by the crash of glass recyclables being collected, all before sunrise. So, be sure your room is on the west side of the building if you desire a quieter experience. I can't imagine returning for an overnight here but I'd certainly be comfortable recommending it to others. It was fun and serene to step outside in the morning, right onto the beautiful Faculty Glade of the UCB campus.
