I have been here several times and enjoyed the food. However, I called an order in last night for dinner for pick up. They told me 1 hour to pick up. I thought really for 3 rolls? Ok, no problem. I get there 1 hour later and I ended up having to wait another half of an hour. I called at 8:45. I didnt get my food until 10:15. Thats unacceptable. They had 2 tables they were weaving and took an hour and a half for 3 rolls. Unreal. read more

Very intimate sushi bar, maybe 15 seats in the whole restaurant. The decor is unassuming, but the service is prompt and while they don't do anything like omakase, the sushi chef is generally very friendly and will often suggest alternate preparations of your chosen fish, like sashimi over nigiri. Green tea is good, very nutty and woodsy. Sake selection is nice as well. Very much an under-rated little place, with very well prepared sushi. Definitely check it out. read more

Wow these rolls are great! Personally, I much more enjoy to have them where they were originally created at the Anaba Sushi in Oxnard, CA. It's been in operation since 2007, masters of their craft! The long, excruciating wait is not worth it! I came here a few months ago. The place is tiny but even though we only ordered 3-4 dishes, we were there for 2 hours (by no fault or desire of our own). The kitchen stuff came out the fastest. While we were waiting for our sushi, having already finished the kitchen food, the sushi chef was chit chatting and making sushi for the guests at the bar. By the time our last sushi came out, we were full from waiting and having the previous dishes settled in our stomachs. And yet the waitress gave us a dirty look when we told her we were done and that no, we did not want a box to take it home. She should be used to that, seeing how all the other reviewers mentioned slow service. The sushi and food wasn't any better than any other place. WOW!!!!! They have the best tasting sushi in the world! Ok, maybe not the world but out of the 100 or so Japanese restaurants Ive tried around LA, theres is definitely in the top 10. Everything just taste so fresh, its like they go out back and catch the fish in an imaginary ocean. The service is great, the waitress is so nice. You might have to wait a little longer while they prepare the food, but definitely worth the wait. I saw lots people talking about the "slow serving" and chef's "slow working". If I decide to go a restaurant to have a meal, that means I ought to have time to wait and I know it's worth it. I can't understand why so many people want to eat but hate to wait. Please trying to understand the chef and the only one waitress. As everyone knows, it's a small dining place, how come they hire two waitresses and two chefs? Then those people would say "oh I can't even move in this restaurant!" Just don't judge people easily, trying to stand and think on their sides and situations. If you don't have time and would not like to wait, then just don't wait to eat and then don't complain slow service or long waiting time. I live around Covina and I love this place. Ok my family and I have been coming here for over a year every week religiously and could not be happier. Richie and Margaret are like family and we enjoy their company (to us it is not service ) and food. There is one chef (one great magnificent chef) and that is why when it is busy food will take a little bit longer but trust me it is all worth it. Now on to these dumb ass bad review. 1. One chef, one server and it is a family restaurant, so expect to wait a little. Richie takes pride in his craft so trust when I say it's worth it. 2. If it is full like on a Friday and you notice 1 chef 1 server don't f-ing stay if you don't have patience go somewhere else. The regulars will appreciate it. 3. Don't say the food was horrible because it is 3 against 50+ 5 star reviews so stop. Last point. I have been recommending this place for a year and they have a large following of regulars. We can stay there for hours enjoying great company sports and pretty much the best sushi I have ever had (I have had sushi everywhere including all over LA, Hawaii, Texas, and Northern California ). PLEASE READ and if you choose to go, please write a review so that other Yelpers can relay on the ratings (I'm really questioning how this place got its reviews). I'm very surprised by the overall rating of this place. Actually, I'm utterly confused and really question how this place got it high review from some people. I'll admit that I only gave this place one chance and that was my first and last. My husband and I went here about 2 weeks ago on a Friday. When we arrived there was 5 groups total ranging for couples to a group of 4 including children. For the amount of people I wouldn't expect service to be poor. I didn't make any presumption or had any bias coming in. I even had high expectation looking at the picture posted and was super excited. But as soon as I was given the menu which was about 1-2 mins of sitting down (The only good part) everything went down hill from there. I noticed about 10 minutes in from when I sat down did the couple to our left got their salad ( Didn't think much of that yet...). The waitress then picked up the order sheet from the table to our left and went to the back. She finally came back out 5 mins later!!!! I finally gave her my order sheet and then she disappeared again for the longest time. This is when I questioned how many waiter there were. Anyways, after about 30 mins after the couple to our left got their orders and left ( How long was the couple there before I arrived?). The group to our right finally got their FIRST sushi dish after 40 mins in !!! At this point it was still a bit humorous to me that they had ONE chef and ONE waiter but nothing was coming out. Then I seriously questioned the process of fulfilling orders. I come to realized that he was completing each table sheet in that order the waitress put the sheet in. In other words, we were the 3rd sheet in his fulfillment order. In the timeframe I was waiting the chef also fulfilled an order to go which I don't know when the call was made. Long story short I didn't get my food until +1.25 hours after I had placed my order!!!! THIS IS SUSHI!!! There is NO COOKING!!! Can anyone explain to me where the waitress disappear to even to serve water and why it take soo long to serve your guest. They need a new system. So that was service. Now food.... I don't want to waste more time elaborating on everything that I can possibly say so I'll just bullet point the food review. Food was... -SALTY -Sauce was overwhelming to a point that there was no taste but sauce -My sushi was falling out of its rice -Presentation is deceiving!!!!! Me and my bf came here on Thursday night because we both wanted sushi and wanted to try a new spot. This place was pretty busy, but maybe it seemed busy because of how small it is. Anyways we still got seated fast and the waitress was very nice. Many of the rolls on the menu didn't really strike me as I had to try it, but we got some baked salmon and cream cheese roll (forgot the name) and that was very good! Just a little on the heavy side. We also got tuna sashimi which you can tell was fresh and delicious. The food was average sushi place prices with each roll ranging from about 9-12 $ each. The service was great and you can tell the guy at the sushi bar seemed to enjoy making the sushi, which is a plus. I will come back to this place next time I feel like sushi and don't want AYCE. read more
