Amz Salon is situated in an unassuming strip mall between a Subway and a beauty supply store, but don't let this deter you. Mona is the best out there, and you get salon quality without salon prices. When she does my hair I feel like she pulls out every tool in her arsenal to make sure it's absolutely perfect. The first time I went in I had hair several inches past my shoulders and requested a style that required a majority of my hair to be taken down to a number 2 guard, and the rest to be cut to only a few inches long. Before I made such a huge hair decision Mona asked me several times over hair washing and deep conditioning if I was positive on chopping it all off. I was and I LOVE the result. I return monthly to maintain it, and she always takes the same care as she did with the initial cut. I have even returned once several days later to have a bit more taken off as I wasn't quite happy with the length, and there was no issue with her fixing that. I would recommend Mona to absolutely anyone; I'm lucky enough to live less than five minutes away, but if I lived in south Austin I'd make the trek up here monthly. read more

I chose Amz Salon because it's close to home and because of the yelp reviews, and I'm glad I did. Had my 1st experience with Lena yesterday and my hair looks, feels and smells great! I will be going to see her again. The good stuff: Entire staff is happy, friendly and attentive. Lena was very empathetic to my recent woes with losing my long long hair to stress. I felt like she felt sad for me too. Lena does a pressure point massage with your wash and pays great attention to detail. The not so great: The coupon on the website I found was meant to only be used for Noi's customers, although it didn't say that. Lena offered to take it anyway however I feel their advertising on their website should be more clear. I didn't want Lena loosing $5 for somebody else's mistake. read more

I got there early because I'm still learning to gauge traffic in Austin, and Mona worked me in early. She was very friendly, I instantly felt comfortable with her. She took care on keeping to the natural shape of my eyebrows and I'm very happy I decided on this location. Very conveniently placed right off 183. The haircuts are not overpriced at all ($20+tip), and I still get as good a cut as I would if I had gone to the pricier salons and spent $50+. My regular there is Noi, and she is masterful with the scissors. I only wish I could move her to Boston for my haircuts, but alas... Things worth noting: Great scalp massage. Eyebrow clippnig. Yay!! I got the cutest haircut by the lovely, Mona. The salon has a lot of space so you don't get claustrophobic. Also, it is set up so you aren't being stared at by other clients. Mona was great. Prior to this, I had a horrible experience at another salon in this neighborhood. She fixed my hair! It wasn't easy because I had a thick damaged mess but I now have an adorable bob. It took maybe 30 minutes and I had my eyebrows threaded as well. She then filled them in with gel ( I am terrible with makeup) and I felt great. I read the reviews and have had a few bad experiences with hair cuts and color treatments all around Austin. Most of these places had pretty good reviews and were fairly upscale, but none of these places took the time to make suggestions on what would look good on me. Arom helped find the color that worked best for my skin tone and also cut my hair that flattered my face. Very impressed with salon and service! I had seen a deal on some daily deal website and had contacted Lena to make an appointment. She was able to get me in quickly and on the day and time frame that worked with my schedule! Unfortunately I was coming from South of the "Y" in Oak Hill, and on a Saturday did not expect much traffic, but I was wrong and ended up being 15 minutes late. I felt really bad, especially since I had dropped my phone in the washer the day before and had no way of calling to let her know I was running behind. When I got there she was more than understanding and we quickly jumped into the appointment. I was only getting root touch-up for my almost platinum blonde hair. After chatting a bit while bleach was applied, I sat under the dryer for 5 or so minutes and was offered refreshments while I waited. I declined while flipping through magazines. While rinsing, Lena was not pleased with the resulted color (too yellow). I assured her it was normal for my hair, and that I usually had to go home and use purple shampoo for about a week to correct, but she insisted she would not have my leave the salon like that and applied complimentary toner! After a second rinse, other stylists in the salon gathered around to compliment the color! (Not many people go this blonde!) After drying and styling (taking her time to perfect, something I'm not used to. but surely appreciate!) I got even more compliments from the customers on either side of me! It really did look good! I am very pleased and will be returning! Other salons would have charged close to or over $100 for the same affect, but I left paying half that, allowing me to leave a $20 tip. (Something I do not normally do, but I really appreciated the services and Lena's understanding of my tardiness!) It appears she also does Brazilian blowouts (a service she really wanted me to get, but $60 I was unprepared to pay that day!) and maybe eyelashes too! I will definitely be looking into some of the other services offered next time I am there :) read more

She also does a wonderful job with my highlights!! We have moved to Houston and I drive to Austin just to get her to cut my hair - had it done twice here in the Houston area and ran back as fast as I could for her to fix my mess, my daughter is at school in San Antonio and drives to Austin for Amp!
