Poor customer service. The owner Peter is very mean. Theresa was doing balayage on my hair. Something went wrong, she called another stylist Annie. They didn't communicate with me even after me asking them numerous times. I was on the rinse chair for over an hour and in the salon for 3.5 hours. They messed up my hair color big time and didn't do the cut I made the payment they asked for and despite that Peter blamed me for the delay (how is it my fault when his team was working on my hair and made a mess) and he lost his temper, even said that he doesn't care if he gets a bad review. So here I am writing him a bad review. I do not recommend this salon because they don't know how to treat people right. All I expected was clear communication of what went wrong and an apology that they messed up my hair and trying to fix it. As opposed to blaming it on me and telling me that I should tell my family that it will take 5 hours for them to do the color and cut. Stay away from this place! read more

It's easy to call and schedule an appointment and everyone is so polite and flexible Before I found VP Salon, I was in search for a stylist who could give me the cool, punk cuts that I love, but no cuts quite nailed the look I was wanting. I then found Annie at VP Salon and she ALWAYS knocks it out of the ballpark with my hair style requests Here are some pics of a recent style request, a punk pink mullet the first two are right after my appointment with the POPPIN pink and the rest are only so faded because I have to swim for my job sometimes Anyways, love this salon, they do great, affordable eyebrow waxing and other spa treatments on top of hair. Theresa knows how to give me the perfect blonde color that satiates me but also looks rich and real. And a beautiful haircut too. As expected that Annie's schedule is booked out for sometimes. I met Ms Kim Lan & I was a bit hesitant at first. To my wonder surprise Ms Kim LAN is an amazing Hairstylish to me. My challenging thin, very fine, & brittle hair was hopeless. Not for Ms Kim LAN, because I walked out of the salon feeling & looking fabulous. She's so thoughtful & thorough with my hair. She took great care of my hair. She's so interesting too. She speaks English, French, & Vietnamese. She learned to cut hair in France. How cool is that!!! I know there are many places out there that offer lower or comparable prices, but none can compete with VP Salon's service and quality. First off, Annie is awesome - make an appointment with her! She won't try to assembly line you with others to get the most money as other barbers would. Annie usually spends about 45 minutes cutting my hair because she really cares to make you look great. It's gotten to the point where I can trust her to do whatever she thinks would make my hair look good and she always delivers. And she shampoos and conditions my hair too, using high quality products that VP Salon carries. I have been going to VP Salon for 15 years now. Annie always makes me feel special. She massages my head every time she shampoos my hair, it melts me. I used to color my own hair and started having her color me a year ago, I don't know why I waited so long. Now my color lasts 4 weeks, stays even and is so soft. She cuts my hair exactly how I want! Being new to Austin, I didn't mind traveling up north than taking my chances at a nearby barbershop (called "Great Haircuts"---not kidding!). If you are Asian, this is definitely one of the places to go to in Austin. Kim took her time cutting my hair which I appreciate. Having had cut her sons' hair for many years, I knew I was at the right place. She is also one of the few barbers I know who actually listens to the customer when a request is made to have a haircut look a certain way. I can't rate their actual hair cutting skills, because we never got that far. I arrived for my appointment with Annie 5 minutes early. I ended up standing there being totally ignored for 5 minutes - I could see three woman, one cutting hair and two apparently socializing in the back, and not a single one said a word to me for 5 minutes. Finally, one of the girls in the back asked if I had an appointment, to which I said, yes with Annie at 3:30 (which it now was). I got a gruff "Oh. We'll be with you in a minute." and nothing else; not even an identification of which one of them was Annie. I proceeded to sit and wait a full 20 minutes, being totally ignored the entire time by the entire staff. No one ever said hello, asked how I was, nothing. Not a word, not a smile, not even a glance in my direction. Finally, I just got up and left. I will not return. Good grief; they seriously need to work on their reception skills. read more

I've been getting my haircut here for quite a few months and gotta say I really enjoy my visits here. I always go see Annie as she came highly recommended. My haircut is not difficult to do, #3 on the sides and scissor cut the top. Unfortunately, there are a lot of bad hairdressers out there. Annie is not one. She is very consistent. I never have stray long hairs, miss-cut sideburns, forgotten bangs, etc. The best part about my visits here is that Annie always washes my hair post-haircut and gives a great scalp massage. It's a little more expensive then I would typically spend ($20 w/o tip), but considering I get my hair shampoo'd and the scalp massage, it's worth every penny. read more

She's super accommodating in terms of appointments (I usually get same-say or next day appointments after calling). Once in, she's so nice! She'll chat with you while cutting your hair and giving you a shampoo. She takes her time and always makes ends up giving you a great cut regardless of your hair type. I've gone to other places around town, including Roosters, but she has something they lack, which is consistency. All 4 times I've gone, I've gotten a fantastic, even haircut. I happened to be in town over the weekend visiting family and dire need of a color retouch and cut. Friends and family recommended VP Salon. I had called to see if there was an available appointment on a Saturday morning. Theresa was very accommodating, seeing that I was in town just for the weekend and fit me in that morning. It was a quick 10 minutes drive from the domain, where I was staying at. I was greeted immediately. Theresa was so sweet and warm. She listened to what I needed done. She took her time to make sure the color came out to my desired color and wow, best haircut I've ever had. Alright, so after reading the stellar reviews by Erik and Marc, I decided to give this place a shot. I called in around 10am and made an appointment for my lunch break. The place was very empty when I arrived, but the atmosphere is really classy and enjoyable. Annie took me back to her station, asked for what I was looking for, and how I heard about them. I mentioned yelp and she said started spouting off about how awesome Erik is and that he's one of her clients. You can tell this place has fantastic customer service when they'll actually go out of their way to talk about how great their customers are. I was impressed. Now for the cut itself. Annie is by far one of the best stylists I have ever had. She was so detailed and accurate in her cut, leaving no hair untrimmed. Sure the cut took a little bit longer than "Haircuts for Jocks" or whatever they're called, but it was DEFINITELY worth it. And really, it didn't take that long. I was able to drive the 5 miles from my work and back and grab lunch all within my hour break. My cut only cost me $15 w/o tip, I guess Annie likes me more than Erik. Oh well. :) I completely, utterly recommend this place, and I will be going back as often as I can. read more

I've been getting my hair cut here for years (6 maybe?) now, and I'm just sorry I haven't given them the positive review they deserve sooner! I have pretty difficult hair (fine, thin, AND curly, but I use a straightener more days than not so a lot of people don't even know my hair is curly). When I first tried out VP Salon several years back (because it was around the corner from my first apartment in Austin), I found a stylist I liked okay enough, so I kept going back because it's hard to find someone who knows how to handle my ridiculous hair and because the prices are super reasonable. Luckily, my stylist up and left years ago and Annie entered! Annie has cut my hair for at least 5 years now, and has never once disappointed. She's just the right amount of friendly, professional, gentle, gives a great head massage during the shampoo, takes her time giving me a precise cut, and makes polite suggestions on how to achieve the desired result I want with my stubborn mane. And unlike most other places I'd been to before, I haven't been hit with random astronomical increases in service prices. I no longer live right around the corner, but I make the drive because it's worth it. 5 stars for Annie! read more
