It really saddens me to write this update, but I pride myself on being just as forthcoming with my criticism as I am with praise and vice versa.
My 2 year old had been seeing Dr. Burke since he was a newborn and we just recently started taking my infant to her as well. Long story short, though very knowledgeable, I came to feel that Dr. Burke lacked the friendliness and connection to kids that I personally look for in a pediatrician. In general, I always felt rushes, and basically like my son (and now sons) were simply another name on a clipboard.
Also, she is very hard to get in touch with in case of emergency or if you simply want to discuss something you deem important with your pediatrician. You have to constantly maneuver through operators, and switchboards, and if you do ever find your way to her office, you have to play phone tag or email tag with her assistant. Then, maybe then, will you POSSIBLY receive a return call back from her 4-5 days later. When I brought this to her attention, she basically patronized me and in nicer terms told me to deal with it. My child even got very sick after attending school for the first time, was seen by other doctors in her practice, and she never even called to check on him or see how he was doing until our next appointment 2 months later. This all became very disappointing.
So, after much consideration, my husband and I have decided to take our business and our sons elsewhere to a private practice of caring doctors, who seem to love kids and who pride themselves on maintaining an open and direct line of communication between themselves and their clients. As still a relatively new parent, feeling confident that my pediatrician is there for my sons and I, when we need her is at the top of my priority list. read more
