Dr. Rashbaum has been my primary care provider for more than 20 yrs. I trust him with my life -- literally. In addition to being a very skilled and knowledgeable medical provider, he is upfront and brutally honest -- which some people might mistake as being rough. Money grubbing, no immunizations, holds your medical records hostage. Doctor Rashbaum is one of the doctors at Capital Medical Associates. This office has taken conscience steps to stick as many fees and costs back to the patient as possible. For example, it's customary that doctors give immunizations and insurance agreements cover that. This office won't store them, making patients get immunizations outside of the insurance system. Then, when I finally left the practice and asked for my records to be transferred, they called me to collect $50 for transferring the records! It's ridiculous and its wrong. The only way to avoid it is to avoid going to this office in the first place. Find another doctor. Please. read more

I have trusted Dr. Rashbaum as my primary care provider for over 25 years. He listens but also tell you what he thinks. His visits are not rushed and he spends the time needed to help you. His office goes above and beyond to accommodate AND to work with insurance. I think people take insurance for granted but your physician can be your champion to get procedures and medications covered - Dr. Rashbaum is your champion. Moreover, he will call you himself with test results and will respond to emails/phone calls - a rarity in today's medical offices. I enjoy his pups - they are sweet, clean and welcome your petting if you want - therapy animals at their best. read more

Dr. Rashbaum is the BEST physician I've had - -and I've had a few great physicians. When I moved to DC, I asked a colleague who the best physician and best dentist in DC were, being new to the area, and he recommended Dr. Rashbaum as a potential PCP, and he did, in fact, recommend the BEST. Dr. Rashbaum always spends enough time to address any and all concerns, and his staff is wonderful. He is both knowledgeable and highly respected in his field, and he is very, very down-to-earth and compassionate. Also his dogs, Boomer and Lolly, do their "rounds" throughout the practice spreading love and sunshine. Dr. Rashbaum is amazingly wonderful and the top in his field. read more

Not even one star. He lost Dr. Hodges and is a solo practitioner. He is arrogant, nasty, and orders labs that are not necessary due to the money he makes from them. When I lived in DC he was pleasant but now he is overbearing and argumentative. Also, he has moved in his unimpressive boyfriend also working there doing electrolysis and acting like its a spa treatment. Why would you want an electrolysis office inside a physicians office. Its an embarrassment. He is charging everyone for moving their records which is a complaint I heard from other friends in DC as they have chosen to follow Dr. Hodges. He should just change the entire office in to a wellness retreat and let his dogs wander around and give hair removal treatments. This is not what I would expect when I got to a medical office. read more

Left this practice when Drs. Hodge and Alder were being mistreated and then subsequently left the practice. Rashbaum instituted a annual concierge fee of $250 which I accepted initially but then was being hit with surprise billing. Tried to resolve with the accountant and the office manager but they would play a cat and mouse game. Happy to leave. I'm surprised there isn't a class action lawsuit against Rashbaum. I must respectfully disagree with the previous reviewer. After bouncing around primary care doctors since I moved to DC, I feel extremely lucky to have found Dr. Rashbaum. I recently had a physical at his office. Dr. Rashbaum was very thorough, very kind and courteous. I could not have possibly had a better experience. The current realitites in healthcare right now mean that primary care doctors are really getting the short end of the stick, and as a result these doctors, who are the first line of defense for patients, often have to rush their appointments or set up their practices outside of the District of Columbia. I fully expected not being able to find a primary care doctor I felt comfortable with, but my experience here completely changes that view. I strongly recommend this practice. read more

I have been going to Bruce Rashbaum for the last 17 years. I can not say enough good things about him. He is always professional, courteous, helpful and caring. I dont think that I could have put my chronic health problems into better hands. He personally handles your phyisicals, sits and dicussses your problems with you , and I never have felt rushed or put out. He calls me back personally with my test results. I see him every three months. I have been with Bruce through two different practices and his extremely high level of professionalism has never once changed. I feel like I have a doctor that really cares about keeping me healthy and listens to my needs. I have put my life into his hands. read more

Dr. Rashbaum and his staff have given me the care and attention I feel like no other provider has before. They give long and thorough physical exams where I feel like I can discuss my health concerns openly, without judgement. The whole feel of the office is like being at home. Far more comfortable than other places I've been. I highly recommend them for the travel clinic as I travel all over the whole and regularly need vaccines or medications for some of the places I visit. I took on Dr. Rashbaum as my GP because I was impressed with his background and specialties. The office itself is awesome - they have dogs running around, which is really cute. However, I got stuck abroad due to a canceled flight and missed my annual all-over checkup. I was unable to call the office to let them know because I don't have international cell service. When I finally touched down in the US, I called immediately - at which point I was told Dr. Rashbaum took it personal that I didn't show up and refused to speak to me. The office assistant said he refused to reschedule me, and in order to get him to see me again I would have to write a detailed and profound email apology to Dr. Rashbaum and beg for him to take me back. As ridiculous as that seemed to me, I sent a message explaining my flight cancellation and groveling for another appointment. He never replied. I called the office again a few times, and they kept giving me the run around. So I switched docs. No need to battle against an ego that big for an annual check up. read more

I have to agree with Robb T & Darrel C. My husband was a patient of Dr. Rashbaum. My husband was referred to Dr. R by his best friend. My husband went to him for 2 years. While Dr. R does seem to be a really great doctor, the policies at his practice are unbelievable - highest fees I have heard of & all of my doctors are in DC. I will acknowledge that my husband did contribute to the problem that led to Dr. R no longer being his primary. My husband made the mistake of making a 9AM appointment - rusher affix is really bad at that time around the office & there is no street parking. My husband also could not find a parking garage. So he called the office (it is now 9am) & no one answered. He was so frustrated by the traffic, parking situation & no answer that he just left. Someone from the practice finally called him back, but he was already almost home. The guy on the phone promptly let my husband know that the no show fee will be $200 - that is higher by 2x of the highest one of my doctors charges. And...it will be another $50to get a copy of his records. To help make sense of my husband's reaction to all of this, I need to tell you that he was still recovering from having a tumor removed from his brain - Dr. R knew this & knew my husband was having a tough time, but could not find it in his heart to give him a pass on the missed appointment & see him at a better time. read more

I have to agree with Robb T...this group is money grubbing! After recently moving to DC and searching for a good primary care doctor, I was referred to Dr. Rashbaum by a close friend. I called the office and was assured they accepted my Blue Cross insurance plan. I then made an appointment for what I was told would be a free initial consultation to meet Dr. Rashbaum. Once I arrived, I was again assured they accepted my insurance. After having a nice initial consultation, I felt that I had found a great doctor so I scheduled an appointment for my yearly physical about four weeks later. The day before my physical, I got a suprise in my mailbox for a $220 bill for the "free" consultation and a notice from my insurance company that Dr. Rashbaum was not part of my network. I went to the doctor's office the next morning as scheduled and questioned why I was receiving this bill. I was then told that the consultation was NOT free and that, after further investigation, my insurance plan was not accepted. Dr. Rashbaum eventually reduced my charge for the initial consultation to $110 (the reason I rated them a 2 rather than a 1) but I wasted several week with this group and received absolutely nothing for the money I was required to pay. Dr. Rashbaum is friendly, personable and probably a good doctor but I can't recommend this practice after all the issues I had and the way they responded to them. read more

There is no better primary care doctor than Dr. Rashbaum. After several weeks of fever/chills and then acute upper abdominal pain, I had visits and tests with other doctors and at the ER with no success or diagnosis. I decided to try Dr. Rashbaum, who was recommended to me by a friend. I had spent the past year in the Middle East on a grant and it could have been any number of things but he would not give up until he found out what was causing this. He spent a good 30 minutes with me on my first visit, he ran tests, called me to check up on me while we were awaiting results, conducted research, was willing to speak to my father on the phone after-hours to reassure him, and held staff meetings other doctors to discuss and diagnose my case. For three weeks, he squeezed me in several times for appointments and tests. Finally, he and his colleagues found the root cause which was a rare virus only affecting only 2% of travelers in the Middle East. Medical mystery = solved. Oh and another key plus during this experience: Dr. Rashbaum always responded to my emails. Truly, a 21st century primary care doctor! I am doing much better now and I know if anything else occurs, I can count on him. I also highly recommend his nurse practitioner, Mary Beth Alder, who has also been very responsive by email and has squeezed me in at the last minute when I had bronchitis. She also is handling my travel vaccinations. If you're looking for a primary care doctor, look no further. You'll be in good hands. Dr. Rashbaum is the best. read more

I made an appointment with Dr. Rashbaum for a yearly physical as a new patient. I was very impressed with how fast I was seen and how thorough his assessment was. The office is very modern and he brings his dogs to work which gives the office an added comforting feel. He called me personally to go over my lab results. I was shocked when I got a $300 dollar bill in the mail from the visit and initially was very upset. I called the office and was directed straight to a woman in the billing department and she was incredibly kind and patient with me over the phone. She looked up all my information and discovered I had not met my insurance deducible and helped guide me through the process. I would highly recommend this physician and all of his welcoming staff. I myself am in the medical field and you can't really get a more thorough primary care doc. I can understand his strict cancelation policy because no shows prevent other patients from getting the care they need and I deal with it every day. read more
