I have been a patient of Dr. Lee for over 15 years, starting from his practice being a rowhouse in Chinatown to his present location. Trust me, he hasn't changed in all those years. He is the most patient, knowledgeable doctor I have ever had. He genuinely cares about me and when an occasion comes when I have to see a specialist, I can count on him to (1) send me to someone as professional and caring as he, and (2) be knowledgeable of their recommended treatment and encourage me to follow through, especially when he senses my hesitation. He has never steered me wrong. Now, needing to see another specialist, Dr. Lee has recommended me to someone I feel comfortable that has my best interests at heart. I can't say enough good things about him and know that I will be in his practice for as long as he will have me, which I am hoping will be a long time in the future. His wife, also a doctor, is great, personable, knowledgeable and very patient, although I have not had an occasion to see her in years. All in all, Drs. Lee are the best in DC. As the daughter of a doctor and a nurse, I got nagged once I got onto my own insurance to find and visit a primary care physician IMMEDIATELY. Now, you may chalk this up to crazy first generation Chinese parent syndrome, but hear me out. Why go through the hassle of this? Think you're young and healthy and who cares? Well, if you get pneumonia/some weird growth/sprain your wrist/something that's not super emergency and you can still get yourself into a cab, a PCP can usually squeeze you in if you've already seen them before and you beseech them to see you. Tada! You're already on their patient list so you're priority! Much better than waiting for hours in an emergency room, I dare say. And it will usually cost you much less (aka your $25 copay if it's nothing crazy). Plus, they'll tell you if you really need to go to the emergency room or not. I did my entirely too extensive search for a doctor through BCBS' database that included some excessive excel databasing, gave the whittled down list of doctor profiles to my dad, and asked for his advice. His criteria for doctors surprised me! For one, he didn't care about their medical school (as long as it was a good enough school, but didn't need to be an Ivy), he only really cared if they were board certified (duh), and he really cared about their age and location. Huh? Yes, their AGE. My dad picked Dr. Lee because he was on the younger side of the internal medicine pool in DC and was metro accessible. Apparently you want a doctor whose not close to retirement, but has enough years of experience practicing to know what they're doing. (Full disclosure, I don't know if my dad was being biased in favor of a Chinese doctor or something, but his other reasons made sense and Lee could *not* be a Chinese name). Dr. Lee has the best bedside manner I've ever encountered (this is also including my dad, sorry Dad). He is thorough with his questions without it feeling like an interrogation and he inputs your answers into a laptop, checks a few things, asks a few more questions, does a couple tests and lets you on your way. No lecturing, no pushing prescriptions or procedures. He'll ask you lifestyle questions, perhaps recommend some tests if he thinks you're at risk for anything and maybe some preventative care. The three times I've gone, he has been nothing but patient, professional, and genuinely seems to care about my answers and actual health. Overall, Dr. Lee seems like a doctor who went into practice because he actually cares about helping people, and he seems to do a good job. I haven't had one of those rare diseases on House yet, so who knows how good he is at diagnosing lupus? The office is located in a converted rowhouse in Chinatown. His wife also practices here btw. Dr. Lee is amazing. I've been going to him for about 3 years. My husband goes to him. We referred one of our friends to him, and he in turn referred his friends. The office is very professional. You never have to wait more than 15 minutes and you can usually get an appointment well within 2 weeks. They also squeezed me in on an emergency basis when I had food poisoning. Dr. Lee is really friendly and thorough. He's fairly young and easy to talk to. He is also very professional and thorough and listens to what you have to say. He'll even give you useful lifestyle and nutrition advice where appropriate. He never rushes you and takes his time. Very refreshing after lots of bad experiences with doctors. A coworker at my previous employer recommended Dr. Lee to me, and he was my doctor for about 2 years before my insurance switched and I couldn't use him anymore. Since then it's been hell trying to find a doctor to compare. He's the absolute best. He's always attentive and thorough, and really a genuinely nice guy. And you never get the feeling that he's out for the money or to bleed your insurance dry. In fact, one time while we were working on a specific problem and he needed to see me for a brief ten minute check he just did it for free. He actually had my co-pay returned to me. He said the reason was that he couldn't honestly code that visit as anything that he felt insurance should pay for. How many times do you think I've heard that since then. Trust me, if your insurance covers this guy then stop looking anywhere else. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Lee for 5 years, and will continue to see him for as long as I am in DC. First, he actually listens to you. I am a bit of a hypochondriac sometimes, and was having some chest pains, so I went in to see him. It ended up just being some inflammation of my chest wall (which I think he knew pretty much from the start), but he asked me a bunch of questions and took my concern very seriously, spending almost 20 minutes with me. He even explained to my why it was very unlikely that it had anything to do with my actual heart. He's also very responsible, no antibiotics for a cold, no over testing, etc. He recently moved from a small practice to working at John Hopkins community clinic downtown, but from my one visit to him since he made the switch, he still takes the time to listen and make sure he has a complete picture of your situation before diagnosing anything. Dr. Lee is easily one of the best medical experiences that I have had in this city. I started using him as my PCP upon moving to DC in 2007, and have not looked back since. I have only had one other PCP that I would give 5-stars to, and that was the physician I had from childhood into my early adult years in Maryland. The office is small, but don't let that fool you. I have on two different occasions popped in, hoping to be treated without an appointment and was seen within 10-20 minutes, no guarantees obviously, but they will make it work if it's urgent . Office is electronic with records, which is always a good sign. He'll remember things that I came in for 2 years ago. Very solid with following up on issues (such as things where insurance has to be involved). Very personable and has an amazing bedside manner. Also conveniently located a few blocks from the Chinatown metro. Highly recommended. read more

You can't go wrong with Dr. Andrew. I've seen him for about 3 years for a variety of ailments and always left feeling heard and satisfied. He's patient, kind and most of all knowledgeable. He's up on the latest technology and has a great memory. His office staff is pleasant and efficient, and you don't wait around for hours. Excellent office! They are very accommodating and are able to set up same day appointments, if possible. One time, I had a lingering cough that wouldn't go away and kept me up all night. I was desperate to find a doctor so my cough would go away so I called multiple offices and either they didn't accept new patients or the next available appointment for new patients was for 2 weeks or more! God help me if was going to cough for another 2 weeks! However, this office was able to set up a same day appointment! I went in, got checked out, and sure enough, I had viral bronchitis. The doctor prescribed me cough syrup with codeine to help me sleep and that seemed to do the trick....until I somehow got a secondary sinus infection! Ewwe. I just called and was able to set up another appointment for tomorrow. It's great to have a doctor's office that is able to see you immediately and take the time to diagnose and treat your illness. The office is also small, intimate, yet very professional. They also speak fluent Mandarin. read more

I can echo what everyone else is saying about Dr. Lee being an unbelievably good doctor. If there was the ability to give him six stars, I would. Dr. Lee does a few things that stand out: He listens to you. He works with you to find solutions to your medical issues that will work for you. Not just what the book says. I honestly can't remember how I found Dr. Lee, but he has been a blessing to my household for 3 years and counting. He is patient, calm, understanding, and isn't quick to put you on medications. I like that he will go the holistic route first before prescribing anything. He truly takes his time with his patients and I truly feel like he cares about my family's overall health. The staff is a hit or miss at times when it comes to professionalism and kindness, but that doesn't stop me from seeing one of the best PCP I've had in a long time. Dr Lee is incredible. He takes time to ask questions and to have a dialogue with his patients. It has been clear from my visits that he actually reads a patient's chart prior to the appointment (that or he has a photographic memory, which would be equally awesome). I wish I had him as my PCP years ago. While Dr. Lee and the staff at his office deserve all five stars, the JH staff (phone, appts, billing) is uneven. The review is for JHCP, not Dr. Andrew Lee who remains an excellent doctor. As everyone's already said, he makes time to listen to his patients and doesn't rush through the visit. I've been with Dr. Lee since 2010 and very much appreciate how thorough and patient he is on each visit. One can put up with the less than thrilling JHCP system if seeing Dr. Andrew Lee. Unfortunately, however, the move to JHCP has made this a far more corporate practice, situated in a building with a ridiculous sign-in policy for doctor's visits. Have concerns about inclusion of lists of patients going to JHCP being available to persons not relevant to my care. Privacy violation? I don't much care for JHCP. Why is my history gone over each time I visit, particularly when the last visit was only two months prior? One good thing? The electronic communication system that allows the patient to communicate directly with their doctor, make appointments and request refill Rx. The PAs and receptionists are friendly and helpful at least. read more

My parents started seeing Dr Andrew Lee's father Dr Toon about 15 years ago until he retired and I started seeing Dr Andrew myself for as long as I can remember. STOP SEARCHING, he is truly the best doctor. I live in Rockville MD and no matter how sick I am I make that travel out to DC. Once you see Dr Lee you don't ever want to go anywhere else. He takes the time to thoroughly explain everything and even shows you charts so you get a better understanding. He never rushes you and he's very clear with his words. If you are a fan of the 'old school' model where doctors were not confined to a 9 minute encounter to assess your medical needs, you will love Dr. Andrew Lee and his wife, Dr. Renee Chen-Lee. They actually returned calls personally. Asked questions about the patient's overall lifestyle. And had a family business that was respected in the culture and community of Chinatown. I really regret that they decided to close the family practice. Hopefully they will be able to continue their personalize level of care in the midst of the Johns Hopkins Community Physicians' practice. Love me some Dr. Lee! Most thorough MD/DO I've met in years. My initial visit was an HOUR long. And I was just there for your average physical. F/U visit for a nasty cough. He took one listen and diagnosed me with an obscure disease that I thought had been eradicated in the USA. One quick round of antibiotics and I was good to go. If they got an in-house/round-the-corner lab, I'd give 'em 5 stars. That's the only down-side -- you have to carry your lab order and make a separate appointment with an external facility. Dr. Lee is board certified as both an MD and a DO, which makes him more bang for my sick buck. Nice guy, great doc. read more

If you're looking for a primary care physician, look no further. Dr. Lee has an OUTSTANDING bedside manner, as they call it. He records everything you say on has swivel touch screen laptop and the few times I visit, it doesn't seem like he skips a beat in knowing where we last left things. He seems to genuinely care about his patients, and it shows. Recently found out friends of ours have him as a doctor as well, and they share the same opinion. Dr. Lee has been my physician for the past 5 years. Always a great experience, never had to wait more than 10 minutes past a scheduled appointment and as others have said I don't feel rushed when I am in with him. I was just able to schedule an apointment for a minor issue on the next business day! I have tried other practices in the area but none compare with Dr. Lee. Another thing I like about Dr. Lee is that he does his very best to explain things in a way you can understand, rather than just spewing out a bunch of medical jargon. Dr. Lee is an excellent physician. I've had the ability to schedule appointments in a timely fashion, and when I've had emergencies he's been able to see me the same day. His staff are courteous and friendly. When you come in to see the doctor (shock and awe) you actually see a doctor...not a nurse, physician's assistant, or someone else. Dr. Lee checks your vitals, talks to you, and is helpful and understanding. Very few doctors I've ever seen have had the same care and level of service to his patients. It's a credit to his profession that a young doc like Dr. Lee gives you the old-timey level of service you've heard about from your grandparents or saw on television (think 'Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman'). Dr. Lee is an excellent doctor. He is knowledgeable, friendly, cares about his patients, and takes time with them. He is the best doctor I've ever had. Truly outstanding. I have been a patient of his for several years. I can always get an appointment easily. When I've been really sick, I could get a same day appointment. In my experience, the waiting room is pleasant and hardly ever packed. I usually wait about ten minutes and end up out of there in less than an hour. They seem to do a good job of scheduling so that there is no wait and patients aren't rushed. And the front desk staff are so nice, both over the phone and in person. The office is very metro accessible right next to Gallery Place/Chinatown on the red line. Dr. Lee is always understanding and takes the time to explain what is happening with your body, whether it's showing you your lab results and explaining what those numbers actually mean, or pulling out a book to show you a diagram of your ear so you could see why it is hurting. He treats you like an intelligent person. I've usually been intimated by doctors, and I think my care in the past with other providers has been less than ideal, because I've been too afraid to say what I need or report certain symptoms or ask a dumb question. But I've always felt very comfortable with Dr. Lee. I highly recommend him. I've referred friends to Dr. Lee and they're always been just as happy with him. read more
