Dr. Karen Myers has been my primary care provider for over 12 years, and I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone. She is simply the best, most caring and thorough doctor I have ever had the pleasure of working with. She always listens and helps me follow up with all of my concerns, and I trust her implicitly. Furthermore she takes time to fully explain any and all of my tests, including bloodwork and various tests completed by my other doctors. I never walk out of her office without a copy of results as well as her suggestions for various products or specialty doctors. Several of the comments here include Dr. Myers along with other doctors but only give 4 stars. Dr. Myers, however, should be reviewed separately, as she only deserves 5 or more stars. Lastly, the office has a relatively new administrative assistant at the front desk, a gentleman who is a absolutely a pleasure to encounter and wonderful at following up. read more

Sadly, I have to temporarily update my review in the hopes that the doctors of the office will reconsider the road they are on; make staffing changes and care orientation changes; and resume accepting insurance. As far as Dr. Mills goes, I understand how some other reviewers could give her a negative rating, because she does have a certain way about her that can be misinterpreted. But she really is smart and great, it's just the practice's increased emphasis on cost-cutting and speed, and her trying to increase productivity as others seem to tell her is better, when it is not, and she is better than that. The change in reviews here and on other websites over time is noticeable, where people used to talk about how great the doctors, including Dr. Mills were, and how much time Dr. Mills spent with patients and really caring for and about patients, while newer reviewers talk about how quick and curt she seems. I believe it is a function of someone telling her that is how to increase productivity, and (thought some of the staff are really good and nice) because she has certain staff that have no care for the patient and only want to rush patients, and even rush Dr. Mills. Being a primary doctor is calling, and the relationship that patients have with their GPs is much different then with other doctors. Dr. Mills has the ability to be one of the great ones, but she has to follow her caring soul, and not what her staff say or what she is told will make more money. Dr. Mills and the other doctors also need to recognize that staff should not be able to run the direction of the practice or treatment of patients as some do. Things are only worse for many of us, since they stopped taking insurance and charging well above insurance allotments. Again, somebody must have convinced Dr. Mills that was a way to make more money - likely staff who did not want to deal with billing codes - but it is not. Some offices cut their prices after stopping to take insurance, but this office charges more. Most people just cannot afford to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for basic doctors visits, and in the end, we all go to less doctors visits and get less medical care than than we need, and they get less patients then they need. It's a lose-lose. So, I would encourage you to still try Dr. Mills, but encourage her to be her caring self, and take time, and not be rushed by staff who seem to control things, and not to make the practice an assembly line. Care for patients, take insurance, spend the time, be nice - and everyone will profit in money, happiness and soul. I love Dr. Z. Chris here. He is very knowledgeable, understanding, and has been able to recommend good specialists for my needs. I have recommended him to other friends, and they have all raved about him. I never had to wait in the office for very long, the staff is helpful, and I even saw some of the other doctors come out and personally greet their patients prior to appointments. One caveat: their billing office is a bit of a money-grubbing set-up. I have been billed for calling in to have a prescription faxed to my new pharmacy, after I started a new job. I have never heard of such a practice -- getting billed for having a prescription faxed or mailed. Am I just being naive? It seems rather stingy. read more

I really like Dr. Karen Myers and Dr. Z Chris of this practice. I have used Dr. Myers for over 15 years as my GP. She is wonderful - enthusiastic, good listener, well informed and provides alternatives. Due to changes in insurance, I started to see Dr. Chris for some medical appointments and have been very pleased. He is very nice, soothing manner - provided good, helpful information. I have never had a problem getting appointments. I have faxed questions on vaccination for travel and promptly been called back. They have an office lab who administered the vaccine. It was efficient and did not entail a copay since I did not see a doctor. I can solidly recommend these two doctors. read more

I have to say that I am surprised at these positive reviews for Dr. Mills. I've been to her for two annual physicals now, and I am now convinced that my first bad experience was not a fluke and it is time to switch doctors. I think she is smart but her manner is terrible. She interrupts you constantly. Doesn't make eye contact. Speaks condescendingly and really fast. Goes through her list as if you are a robot and not a human being. Both times my physicals were rushed (about 20 minutes) and the bill was about $800. She is the opposite of what other reviewers are saying. In addition to that I had to chase down office staff to receive my follow-up referrals to specialists. Your health is worth more than this. Stay away. read more

I've seen Dr. Broughton a couple of times (yearly physical and a knee problem), and I am very satisfied. She takes the time and is very friendly, More importantly, see fixed my knee problem. I have been going to Dr. Dale Matthews since 2005 and would recommend him to anyone. Especially others like me that could be a test case for multiple issues at NIH. He has helped me so many times with various things and also has a great network of specialist when needed that are a good as he is. I'm a new patient to this office and ended up seeing both Dr. Mills and Dr. Myers both within the course of a week; I had a good experience with both. I originally came in for eye trouble (my eyes had been really red for several days, not responding to eye drops), and Dr. Mills did my initial examination and all the "new patient" stuff. She's a new doctor, but I thought she was very thorough; I certainly didn't feel rushed. She took the time to explain things well and while she ended up sending me on my way without a solid answer for my eye problem, she gave me instructions to keep an eye on a few things that might be the source of the problem and told me to follow-up if the eyes didn't clear up in a week. I ended up having to come back less than a week later -- eye problem was still raging, and my blood pressure was through the roof -- and Dr. Mills wasn't available so I saw Dr. Myers. Dr. Myers was also very friendly and thorough; again, I didn't feel rushed at all. She picked up right where Dr. Mills left off, and I didn't feel like I was having to repeat or re-hash things I'd already covered with Dr. Mills. Since this was my second time in for the same issue, she definitely probed deeper -- especially in the blood pressure issue -- asking a lot of thoughtful questions and explaining things as she went. This time, the visit ended with more answers and a prescription in hand. A few days later, I'm doing much better and am confident in the care these two physicians provide. The office staff (i.e. some of the receptionists) could stand to be a little nicer, but that wasn't a deal breaker. read more

A friend recommended Dr. Mills - and she is wonderful. I have never had another doctor spend so much time with me and take so much care to answer any question I had with detail and patience. She is an advocate for a healthy lifestyle, but she is realistic about the pace of life in the city and provides reasonable advice. I had been patient in this pratcice for 30 years and was fortunate to have had one the best physicians in Washington, DC with one of the most efficient and front desk administrators . Unfortunately, my Doctor retired and although her replacement was satisfactory, the administrator for Dr. Sitzman is not up to past standards. I have called this office 3 times in the past year and half and Tonya has always been curt, on occasion rude, and did not relay message to have the doctor call me when I needed to speak with her. Absolutely terrible and incompetent customer service at the Washington Internists Group that has resulted in me paying hundreds of dollars more than I should have. I recently acquired new insurance from my employer and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Jennifer Mills. I had been seeing Dr. Mills for about a year at the time. When I came to the office for my appointment I showed the administrative staff my new insurance card. The staff informed me that "I was good" and so I saw the doctor, but did little else (e.g., enter my information into the system, check my insurance to ensure I was in network, etc). Fast forward to 2 months later: I receive a bill for the entire cost of service for my office visit. When I called to inquire about the bill, I was notified that Dr. Mills was out of network for my current insurance. If I had known this when I notified them of my new insurance at the appointment, I would have refused to see the doctor. I received an incredible amount of attitude from the person on the phone instead of assistance. All in all, the incompetence of the staff at Washington Internists Group has outed me a few hundred dollars. I wouldn't trust an organization that is so disorganized, incompetent, and unprofessional with something as important as my health. read more

Dr. Jennifer Mills has been my doctor since she began her practice with the Washington Internists Group (I had previously seen Dr. Z. Chris there, before he moved). Dr. Mills is an excellent, very smart and extremely thorough physician. She sees both my wife and me. We're both "older" (65+) and used to top grade medical care. Dr. Mills is not the doc to see if you want a quick fix, she takes her role as the caretaker of your health very seriously, and gives thorough (sometimes "encyclopedic") diagnoses which are useful if you care about your health. The office staff is friendly but businesslike. The only problem is that she now does not participate in insurance programs but that a nationally systemic issue. Can't blame her or WIG. We both highly recommend her. read more

I'm new to DC, so I didn't have a doctor here yet, and I was in need of a flu shot. This practice was close to my office and accepts my insurance, so I called. I was told that they offered flu shots on a walk-in basis, but only to patients who'd been there before. So I'd have to see a doctor there before I could get a flu shot -- even though I'd already had a physical recently and didn't need to see a doctor for any particular reason. I figured, what the heck, might be good to get to know a doctor here in case I get sick later. So I show up for my appointment, only to be informed that they'd run out of the flu shot! They said they'd be getting more, but they didn't know when, and they'd be giving it out on a first-come, first-served, basis. So basically I'd have to call every day to see if they had the shot yet then run over as soon as they got it. No thanks. Also, the receptionist told me that the flu shot "wouldn't be covered by insurance," so I should just go to CVS, where it would be cheaper. What? Since when is the flu shot not covered by insurance? My insurance definitely covers it, but at this point I was too confused/frustrated to argue. Moral of the story: I'll be finding myself another doctor in this city. I highly recommend Dr. Jennifer Mills. I'm new to DC and was looking for a good internist for my annual physical. Dr. Mills greatly exceeded my expectations. Her exam was very thorough. She was great at explaining everything she was testing for. She also spoke at length about healthy lifestyle choices and made several recommendations. I also felt that she was good about getting to know me and better understanding my situation in order to make good recommendations. I am surprised by all the negative reviews. I have been a patient at WIG for years and never had a major issue. I switched to Dr. Chris when I needed to go in for an unscheduled visit and my regular doc was not available. I was happy with my previous doc but she had stopped accepting insurance and I was just so impressed with Dr. Chris. He's thorough, non-judgmental and a great listener. I have gone in with a long list of issues to discuss and he has never rushed me, which is refreshing at a time when other doctors seem to want to get you in and out as quickly as possible. read more

My experience at this doctor's office was horrendous. I was scheduled as Dr. Chris' first appointment, but he was late - by over a half hour. Having never been to this office before, I approached the receptionist to ask if any other doctor was available, as I had no loyalty to any specific physician. I had just started a new job and was missing work, so I wished the receptionist would have offered this instead of me having to approach her. There was a doctor available - Dr. Broughton. Dr. Broughton was ok - a bit brusque, but she took the time to answer my questions. I explained to her the diagnostic tests were time-sensitive, as I was getting tested for something that was contagious with proximity, and my significant other was visiting the following weekend. She told me the results would be available with 3 days, max. The diagnostic test technician took her own sweet time in getting around to my blood withdrawals, although she was adept at the actual blood removal itself. I was not given the results until 9 days later, and then by another doctor when I called (again), because Broughton was on vacation or otherwise out of the office. I have never been so frustrated, and it destroyed my weekend with my out of town other. The receptionists cannot give you the diagnostic test results, but the doctors are never available to interpret them. It is a vicious circle in which the patient ultimately suffers. Finally, I thought I was done with the whole affair - and I just got a very large bill, despite the fact that my insurance is supposed to cover the bulk of the expenses. It shows "credits" and "charges", indicating that the office did get in contact with my insurance company, but oddly enough, the amounts don't mathematically add up - there is an error of around $90. Unbelievable. I would highly recommend you avoid this office at all costs, unless you enjoy headaches and goose chases. read more

I have been a loyal patient of WIG for more than three years. Dr Jennifer Mills is awesome, she takes a ton of time to make sure you understand any concerns you have and is otherwise a pretty unbelievably great doctor. She's a great doctor - competent, thorough, and she takes the time to talk to you and really explain what's going on and answer your questions. I have had many issues with Dr's not believe me, or rushing me. She always takes her time, and listens to her patients. The front staff is amazing.
