I've been very pleased to use this practice. We had started out with a family doctor who we left on bad terms and were very happy to find Dr. Murphy and Dr. Staats. Dr. Murphy is a kind and knowledgeable individual. He has been in practice many years and knows many area doctors and specialists. He has a soft manner which my child found comforting. I appreciated how thorough he was in discussing everything. I appreciate his conservative watch-and-see approach to most things. He doesn't push antibiotics for minor things, and they are able to run basic tests like an ear infection in office so there is no going to the lab. The only down side of Dr. Murphy which ultimately led to us transferring care to Dr. Staats was that he always runs behind. Like, HOURS behind. I would intentionally get the first appointment of the day, but they would take sick patients before that. That means my 9:00am appointment would end up as an 11:30 appointment. Waiting for 2.5 hours in a boring room with a toddler is a special type of hell. So we switched to... Dr. Staats is a impeccably on time. We have never waited longer than 15 minutes past our allotted time. Her demeanor is very different from Dr. Murphy in that she is a bit more distant. She is still kind and seems to genuinely like kids (astonishingly not all peds do). We have been very happy with her care and our ease in scheduling sick visits. The office staff leaves something to be desired. The front desk seems to have a lot of turn over. Often, the women working the front desk seem confused and unsure of what they are meant to do. For example, I paid cash at the last visit, and the woman seemed astonished and confused when I asked for a receipt to prove payment. It took several minutes of waiting for one to be generated. The nurses are nice and are diligent with giving immunizations. they make sure to show you the exact medication which is being given as well as the date showing that it has not expired. I appreciate this kind of attention to detail. I do wish that the Well and Sick area were more clearly defined. For example, there is Well seating which contains no toys and Sick seating which has all of the toys. Try keeping a Well kid away from Sick toys. Overall, we are happy and will continue with the practice. read more

I had no idea how lucky we were when we chose Murphy and Staats as our pediatricians. Expecting our first child, we looked at my OB's list of recommended doctors and went with the first one that accepted both my and my husband's insurance companies...somewhat a shot in the dark, but I am convinced we hit the bullseye! While still pregnant, our next door neighbor asked who we'd be using, and after telling her she raved about the practice, and told us her college-age daughter was still going and she was dreading having to find a new doctor for her once she was absolutely too old to go anymore. She had a million good things to say about her experiences with the practice. Perhaps the best endorsement, though, came from our labor and delivery nurse. I was literally right in the middle of the worst part of labor (terrified out of my mind and in incredible pain, of course) when she asked who our pediatrician would be. When we told her, she lit up and said, "I love Dr. Murphy and Dr. Staats! All four of my kids go there!!!" I was immediately calmed and reassured (as much as a woman in labor could be). If a labor and delivery nurse with four children says they're the best, I was already sold. Dr. Staats was the doctor on call the day our son arrived, and was cool, calm, and collected - exactly what we needed in recovery. She also has put me at ease on every question I've raised in our subsequent appointments. We've also seen Dr. Murphy, who I can only describe as so excited (imagine that "so excited" is underlined) to care for his patients and explain in detail the answer to any question you may raise. He was literally bouncing a bit on his toes and gesturing emphatically when reassuring us about a concern we had. It's easy to believe that they both care very much for their little patients. The fact that they have weekend hours is just over-the-top icing on the cake. read more

I love Doctor Murphy and Stats The only issue I have are the ladies at the front desk. They often make a scene in front of my kids and other patients They have also called my work and my wife's work to ask for immediate payment or go to another practice. They have essentially kicked me out of their practice a few times. That is just the front office/billing staff. My wife wants to stay and the kids like Doctor Murphy. We always end up catching up on the payments at the end of the day. I always wonder if the Doctors may know how bad those ladies are over the phone. read more

I have taken my kids to see Dr. Murphy a few times. The wait to see him is long - so long it's not worth it because he's very rushed. When I had my son tested for allergies, we were there for over two hours. My kids literally had a meltdown. Why, you ask? Because he makes all the allergy appointments (not the front desk) and literally SQUEEZES you in between all his other appointments! It was just terrible. I avoid seeing him as much as possible. I met Dr. Staats on two occasions. She seemed kind and knowledgeable. But the real secret is Dr. Daggle. She's the reason I keep coming back. She's extremely thorough, gets down to the children's level and very knowledgeable. My kids love her. It's so easy to get an appointment with her and the wait is usually short. She gets a 5/5 stars. Update: Dr. Daggle no longer practices here, so we have been seeing Dr. Staats. She is a very knowledgeable and kind doctor. I will continue to have my kids see her. Recently, I found her very thorough with my newborn and patient with my other two children when they were sick. As another parent mentioned, the front desk can seem confused and will charge you a copay for visits even if you don't have one, so be diligent about knowing what your insurance pays for. Also, they don't call in prescriptions or do e-scripts, so be ready to wait at the pharmacy for your children's medication. Update: The doctors started calling in prescriptions - THANK GOD. Waiting for a prescription after I just waited in the doctor's office with 3 children is not fun. I'm enjoying being able to pick up prescriptions via drive thru instead of going in to drop it off and wait. Dr. Staats is great - she's so patient and caring with the kids. Really love this practice. We've only seen Dr. Murphy and Dr. Staats, but I really love them both. Dr. Murphy saw right away that my baby had tongue tie and referred us to someone in the area immediately to get that fixed. My friend's baby also has tongue tie, but her pediatrician told her the only doctors who can fix that were in Reston or Georgetown, and she felt it was too far to take her newborn. I also feel like Dr. Murphy really treats all his patients as his own grandkids; I caught him calling himself Pop-Pop to my baby before he corrected himself. I feel like the doctors in this practice are appropriately concerned when something might be up (ie. my baby was a preemie, and Dr. Murphy was very vigilant about his jaundice and bilirubin levels, even making me go to the hospital to get a more accurate bilirubin check. It was kind of annoying but better safe than sorry.) However, I don't feel like they go overboard. I asked about vitamin D drops since I am breastfeeding, and Dr. Staats wasn't against them but also honestly said that they're fairly recent and that she didn't use them with her kids. I find they both like to explain and teach, and I appreciate that. I always have a lot of questions and never feel rushed or like they are annoyed to answer them. Truthfully, I don't think they're as vigilant as other doctors might be (ie. putting baby through tests to see how they're reaching milestones, insisting on the vitamin D drops if breastfeeding, etc.), but I feel like they're vigilant where it counts and otherwise just let kids grow. I prefer this. Lastly, it has a very home-y, family doctor feel. If that's what you're looking for, highly recommend. PS. They are upfront about not having an official lactation consultant on site, but I spoke to Dr. Staats about some of my difficulties and she correctly suspected mastitis and told me how to alleviate the pain. My OB even incorrectly thought it was thrush at first until I got the full-blown mastitis symptoms, but luckily I had Dr. Staat's advice to follow. read more

We are new to the area and decided to check out this practice for my son's 9 month. The practice was easy to get to and find parking. The receptionist was friendly. I really liked that there was a play area for well-kids. Not a sectioned off area for sick kids though. We saw Dr. Murphy and he was friendly and seemed genuinely interested in my son and his health. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Called their billing office to inquire about a bill. The girl just literally told me in a mean voice "don't come here again, or get your child to this office again, we don't want to see you, such troublesome patients. If you want your records you have to come and pick them up". She didn't stop there, she actually hung up the phone on me when I told her that I have never heard such a comment from a front office employee ever before. She said "I am not going to listen to a lecture, I am done" then hung up the phone. Humiliating, such a humiliating experience. I am filling this complaint to the highest concerned authorities. Doc Murphy is great--delivered 2/3 of my offspring. But, the wait times and overbooking can be an issue. Nonetheless, Dr. Staats is always a pleasant professional, and we will continue to bring our brood here until the last of them reaches 18 or the doctors retire read more

I am so happy we found this practice for our kids. We came to Drs. Murphy, Staats and Daggle for a stomach bug and were very happy with how wonderful Dr Staats was. Gravity was not on our side 3 days later when one of my kiddos fell from the playground and they were able to immediately see her...as in within 30 min of her falling, she was in the office. Dr. Daggle did such a great job with her sutures that she didn't so much as cry and the nurses we have met have been super as well. The fact that they were able to fit us in so we didn't have to go to Urgent care was so wonderful that I'm thrilled with our choice in pediatricians. read more

I loved coming to Dr. Murphy since I was a kid at age 7. I am now 23 and unfortunately find that it's time to find an adult doctor. I really wish I could stay longer. He describes everything in the right amount of detail to make you understand and feel calm. I have also never seen him in a bad mood or too rushed to answer any questions I might have. The staff is also very friendly and the nurses are really gentle. I hate needles and I never tense up or worry when I go over there, it has become so simple. I'm really going to miss them! read more

My son is completing his final year of undergraduate studies and has been a patient of Dr. Murphy's for almost 22 years. As such, this review is long overdue! My son is home for the Summer and suffering badly from allergies and I remembered that on weekend mornings, Dr. Murphy used to take unwell patients without an appointment. I was really expecting to find that this very rare practice had been discontinued and, of course, I was pleasantly surprised to find that this was not the case. It is truly amazing that in today's world, we still have a team of doctors who are so dedicated that they continue to see patients 365 days per year. Dr. Murphy's medical competence is exemplary and his passion speaks volume! May God continue to bless him and his family...he is truly a special professional! Dr Murphy is great at what he does and provides the care needed. The downside is that every visit you will be waiting a minimum of 45 minutes after your appointment time in order to see him, which is ridiculous. read more

We believe we hit the jackpot when we were told about Dr. Murphy and Dr. Staats! They have been amazing pediatricians and we are so grateful for both of them. Each having their own unique style, they are extremely professional, thorough, knowledgeable and dedicated. We have been going to their practice since our little guy was born. Now our son is four years old and about 2 months ago, he ended up in the emergency room and then he was eventually admitted. Our son spent 8 days in the hospital as the doctors tried to determine what was wrong. To make a long story short, both Dr. Murphy and Dr. Staats were on top of everything. They made visits to the hospital (Dr. Staats in the morning and Dr. Murphy at night). They helped us understand what was going on and they monitored him throughout his stay, before and during surgery and once we were home. We are so grateful for these dedicated doctors. My neighbor recommended Dr. Murphy to us when I gave birth to my 2nd son. my son is 2 & 7 months now and I feel so blessed that we found a doctor who is so professional and an expert in his field. Dr. Murphy is exceptional, you can feel his passion for his work when he talks to you. He is sharp and on point with his prognosis. He combines symptomatic approach and diagnostics, which gives almost zero allowance for errors in his findings. I always feel better and assured as a parent every time we visit him. You feel it when you are in good hands. his staff is courteous and they follow up on calls made. We used to reside in burke, just like a 5 minute drive to his clinic. Recently we moved to woodbridge, an hours drive to contend with the traffic but I am not changing doctors. he is worth the drive, the wait in his clinic. Why do we have to wait for so long? It's because he is that good that many are seeing him. a good medicine man in the olden days is seek thru seas and hills. Dr. Murphy's expertise is exceptional, he is sharp and when your child is ill, you will be thankful you are trusting your child's condition to someone like him . read more
