I come from upstate New York, where you can't drive 2 miles without seeing a Greek diner. This place reminds me of the diners I grew up with. The only thing there missing is a tray of cookies at the hostess stand for the kids. It's not fine dining so there's no filet mignon, but there are traditional American, Italian, and Greek dishes and the portions are very generous. They serve breakfast all day. There's a huge selection of desserts, so make sure you leave room! read more

My boyfriend and I ordered from here through Uber Eats for a late night meal and were very happy with our food. We ordered the philly cheesesteak rolls, tortellini w/ alfredo, and the breakfast quesadilla. The breakfast quesadilla was still hot, fresh, and delicious when it arrived. It was very flavorful and my boyfriend enjoyed it. My tortellini was getting cold but that's not really something that I would blame the restaurant for as the delivery took a while to arrive. My tortellini was good, but not anything special. The alfredo sauce wasn't very flavorful. I would definitely try something else the next time (like the souvlaki!). The absolute STAR of our meal were the philly cheesesteak rolls. They were absolutely delicious! They were still piping hot when they arrived and the sauce was delectable. The portion sizes for the entrees and the philly cheesesteak rolls were very generous and we had plenty of leftovers. read more

Not a fan. I ordered a Philly cheesesteak sandwich and it was pretty bland and greasy. What got me is my fries - that tasted like it's been sitting out for hours and microwaved before it was served to me. Tasted so obviously stale and old. If you can't serve make something as simple as fries, I don't care to try anything else on the menu. I'll be keeping my eye out for other diners. read more

Amphora is consistently a terrific breakfast, lunch and dinner spot ! We love the food there so much we went there for Christmas Eve dinner a few years ago. Chicken cordon Bleu is great. Thanksgiving on a plate (Turkey Dinner) is incredible. Amazing pancakes and their eggs are incredible. Such friendly staff and management. read more

Upon arriving we were seated within a few minutes and greeted with a warm smile. Didn't get the waiters name but he had great customer service! The bartender manager customized an espresso martini for me as well that didn't appear on the menu (they insisted) and the food came out extra fresh! Will definitely return to enjoy a late night fulfilling meal. :) read more

Come with a large group for brunch. Great service and good food! Will be back again soon.

I am walked in to pick up food delivery for a customer and was greeted by a man with a short pink wig on and nasty attitude pointing up a finger for me to wait. He said the order was ready but I needed to wait. He proceeded to text on his phone and engage in conversation with a male worker dressed in a white coat and black bow tie. After about 8 minutes of just standing there being ignored I walked over to the counter and asked if the order was ready and the male with pink wig rudely said I will get it to you it's ready but you need to wait. I was nervous as I had to pick up another order with the one I was waiting for and did not understand the need for a wait if the order was ready. The customer canceled the order because I was one of many drivers sent to pick it up, it was late at night, and I guess they were tired of waiting too. The situation escalated when both the manager (old man) and guy with pink wig started yelling at me saying I needed to wait just like at a bank for a teller. They are rude, disrespectful, and need to learn how to treat people with respect. DO NOT pick up food delivery here. The man with pink wig gave me a thumbs down and filed a fake report against me to get me in trouble when I did nothing wrong and recorded the entire incident on body camera. They are sick and nasty people just like the food. read more

Their shepherd pie had bolognese sauce as the "seasoned beef" Literally was just bolognese, mashed potatoes and cheese thrown into an oven. Service was adequate but nothing spectacular. If this is an indicator of the rest of their menu, they need to fire the cook and give them a recipe book as severance. Still ate it cause hungry and wanted to force a sick day. Thanks Amphora! read more

Absolutely awful experience. Stopped in earlier this evening after a show in DC. After 10 minutes waiting for a waiter in an empty diner. I asked the "owner"?, if we could order. The waiter then appeared and took our order without writing it down. I clearly told him I wanted well done onions on the burger as well as crispy fries. When he brought the order to the table, the burger was covered in greasy uncooked onions. I scraped them off. When I tried to pick up the burger the bun fell apart in three pieces. If you're into a poor excuse of a diner, this place is for you. read more

Food is always great and individual accommodations the best. We ordered Christmas dinner to go and when the desserts were forgotten, Steve made it right (more than right, actually) and did so very quickly. My favorite hometown diner! This is a family owned diner and bakery and the people here rock! They have a huge restaurant with plenty of seating. It is very classy for a diner and even has a private room for parties. They have some of the very best spinach and artichoke dip I have ever had. This is a Greek diner so they do it right with loads of warm, toasted pita bread. I love the chicken Cobb salad which is filled with yummy avocado, bacon, and egg. They also have awesome breakfast here - great fluffy pancakes and French toast! They have an a-mazing bakery here with top notch pies and cakes. I always order the fresh coconut cream pie which is perfectly airy with real coconut sprinkled on top; but really all of their desserts are wonderful! Great diner, huge menu, quality tasty food, and really inviting atmosphere! read more

We went here for Thanksgiving and it was strangely empty. It's large, but there still seemed to be a lot of empty tables for the holiday. We soon discovered why. It took about 10 minutes for a waitress to show up. Then she brought the drinks about 10 minutes later and took the appetizer order, then she disappeared for 10 minutes and a waiter appeared with the appetizers. Some appetizers were cold, that should have been hot. Then there was 20-30 minutes before she reappeared to take the food order at least a half hour before the food appeared. We arrived at 3:45 and didn't get the meal until after five. The food tasted good- those that had the traditional turkey dinner said it was good and there was a lot of it. The menu is huge and has something from American, Greek, Italian and other odds and ends. The Greek appetizer platter had two stuffed grape leaves, two meatballs, two spinach pie triangles, about a quarter cup of caviar salad, one cheese triangle and a few slices of cucumber and tomato, plus pita wedges. All were good. The house salad was large and very fresh which was a nice surprise. Someone came around and asked if everything was good but he didn't seem engaged. The service was very slow, inexplicable since the staff seemed to be standing around a lot. The staff didn't seem very organized or attentive. read more

Service is extremely slow. Took over 30 minutes for our breakfast for only 4 people to come out. When the food came out my apple French toast came out with apples that clearly came from a can. My French toast was soaked in the canned apple syrup. I was extremely disappointed that it wasn't fresh apples, that's something you expect when dining out. Overall will not go back read more

I love this place! Never had a bad meal here. Service is prompt and attentive (but not too much). Impeccably clean, always seating. I have never been so disappointed by a restaurant before. Working in the service industry myself, I understand mistakes. However, after coming to Amphora with a manager, fellow bartender, and server from my own restaurant, we tried to express our concerns with our server the best we could. Being told their was no ranch far after food had arrived when it was originally ordered with the entire meal. No au jus with the French dip. No bananas on the banana fosters French toast. No sauce on the chocolate chip pancakes that were advertised on the menu WITH SAUCE. We are reasonable people, who understand slip ups when it comes to service, but wait for how great it really gets. Once the bananas arrive for the banana fosters, my friend discovers not just a shred, but a full leaf of lettuce mixed in with his bananas. Once we address our server with our issues, the first words out of his mouth are, "So you aren't planning to pay for your meal? Is this because of the ranch?" We never once said we weren't paying the full amount, but this kitchen is cooking dirty if a lettuce leaf is being mixed in with bananas. 90% of the food wasn't consumed, and the checks weren't split the way we requested, rather, one whole check was brought to us and we were told to go to the front to have the manager split it for us. We got to the front and have it split. Instead of even being given paper copies, she tells us the amount of our bills. When we request the paper copies, she rolls her eyes and proceeds to shove the receipts our way. We then tell her of our experience. She never made eye contact with us. Never said anything more than to mutter under her breath "sorry, sorry, sorry..." Never offered a solution or compensation, or the chance to even correct any of the mistakes made by herself or her staff. I proceed to hand money over for my bill, which I'm not given change for. At the end of all of this, we explain to her she should be more concerned by her kitchen's cross contamination of food, because it could wind up killing someone and having this entire business shut down. We don't even get an apology for that one, just a death glare. At that point we're fed up and let her know her half-assed apology said it all for how much her and her employees really care for this business. Never going back. Never letting anyone I care for go there. Not going to bat an eyelash when the place gets shut down for a negligent kitchen, and a terrible management team. Save yourself the stress, disrespect, and awful food. Try the McDonalds across the street. They're 24/7 as well, and will meet expectations far better than this place ever will. read more

The breakfast here was so delicious. I had the Belgium waffle which was cooked perfectly, squishy on the inside crisp on the outside. My son had the portobello eggs Benedict. It had this marinated mushroom with a unique and yummy taste, very original. The blintzes were off the chain!!! The service was outstanding. Our server was Emily. read more

Husband and I came last night for supper. Just had a BLT and a roast beef (these were good by standards) however the fries were cold and soggy. So we decided we would try for breakfast the next day. My husband ordered a western omelette with home fries and I ordered just blueberry pancakes. The omelette not so exciting and the potatoes weren't even cooked the whole way through. My pancakes were burnt. Spoke with the waiter and they told me it's because of the "fresh blueberry" in the mix. You could taste the char from the griddle. Manager came over and proceeded to tell me that I was just tasting the blueberry. Please don't tell me my own opinion. Will not return!!!! read more

I've eaten here several times and it's always good. The fries need work though. The desserts are amazing- get the cheesecake!

Both the Herndon and Vienna locations are wonderful. As an adolescent, Vienna was a great place to unwind with your friends after a night out in DC, it holds a lot of memories for me. The menu has a huge variety, plenty of vegetarian choices. I recently did a big order for Thanksgiving thru Door Dash & one of the entrees was wrong. The manager had an employee drop off the correct burger within the hour, and threw in an extra slice of strawberry cheesecake (heavenly!). Love the Amphora! read more

Stopped in for breakfast and had excellent meals and service. The menu offers a lot of options and breakfast is served all day long. Ordered the southwestern scramble. Tasty and a generous portion. For some reason, I had never been to this place even tho they've been here for years. What prompted my visit was after arriving from a red eye flight from Vegas the hotel's (where my car was parked) restaurant was not open at 5 am and girl needed FOOD!! Got on yelp (sorry TA) and looked for anything that was open and low and behold I see Amphora Diner. I had no idea they were 24 hours. So many choices on the menu I could barely decide what to order but breakfast was delicious and very needed after partying too hard for the previous couple of days. I will definitely return and try some other things. read more

Been going here for over 20 years and still amazing on all levels. We drove from Alexandria and it was worth every bit of the drive. Our server was wonderful. However the quality of the food wasn't too good. I ordered a 10oz NY Steak Strip for $24 and it was supposed to be medium rare. Unfortunately they overcooked it. It was tough to cut through and it was very chewy; there weren't even juices leaking out of it as I cut. As you can see in the image, I had to coat in A1 steak sauce to give it some kind of moisture and flavor. Our table also ordered the Chicken Florentine which had an excess of char on it. Initially we thought a piece of charcoal fell in the food because of the amount of black char that had rubbed off on my step mom's hand. It turned out that it was just an excess of char on our plate and it didn't enhance any flavors. We also ordered a Cobb Salad with grilled chicken strips. The chicken tasted rubbery and pre packaged. As if it came from a package of Perdue ready to eat grilled chicken strips. Our whole dinner conversation was about how we should've went to Denny's or Olive Garden instead. It would've been around the same price range or less for our table of 5 with MUCH BETTER quality food. Also the total of $116 did NOT include the tip. At least the waitress was very kind and accommodating. read more

Absolutely awful service. I went in at about 6:15 pm for dinner. The place was mostly empty and they seated me immediately. A server never came over, so I told the hostess. She went and reminded the server. The server still never came over. I then notified a man who appeared to be at least a manager. He went and spoke to the server. After a couple more minutes I still didn't have anyone helping me, so I left. I have to conclude that the server refused to wait on me. The place was mostly empty and I saw several staff members. Even a table seated after me ordered their drinks, received their drinks, and ordered their food while all this was happening. Amphora should be ashamed for this "service". read more

Great place to eat a meal. If you don't know what to order, then order breakfast. The calamari appetizer was tough as a boot but the food got better. Reuben is very good as is the Souvlaki chicken and their Mediterranian wrap. Their prices seem a little high to me. Their wait service is outstanding. Definetly give this place a try. Don't be tempted by the high prices at their bakery counter on your way out the door. read more

I must frequent Amphora at least three times a week. The quality and freshness in food is absolutely amazing, certainly worth the few extra minutes you wait. I find Amphora to be a fantastic place to come to eat for a variety of occasions. One of the things that impressed me the most about this business is their willingness to accommodate large parties. I have sat with parties of 8 or more at both Amphora locations and their servers have generally been positive and attentive. The menu at Amphora can be a bit cumbersome, if not overwhelming, but I cannot complain about any of the dishes I've ever ordered here. I'm particularly fond of the Gyro Sandwich and the Mexican Burger. They also serve excellent breakfast dishes (e.g. eggs, bacon, pancakes and waffles). Last but not least, they serve some of the best dessert around! read more

Sadly, after my second disappointing experience, I can't rate Amphora more than two stars despite my appreciation that Herndon offers family-owned dining 24/7 in this little place! Driven by a poached egg craving at 11:30 on a Saturday morning, I ventured out to Amphora to sample the 24 hour breakfast service hoping for that beautiful golden viscosity of deliciously runny over easy huevos that coats fried home style potatoes and onions and clings lovingly to my biscuit. I was seated promptly and immediately approached for my order. Without even looking at the breakfast offerings in this sizable menu, I ordered fresh OJ, a cafe white mocha and 2poached eggs over easy crowning a plate of home fries. I'm almost embarrassed to say that nothing whatsoever on my plate was appealing. What went wrong: The orange juice was not freshly squeezed; despite a large section of fresh fruit on display, the juice in my cup was poorly-mixed concentrate----lean on top with syrupy concentrate left in the bottom of the glass. The waiter brought my latte about five minutes later but without the white mocha flavor. When I pointed this out, he politely apologized and put in an order for another. when my main plate arrived, I was shocked to find my eggs swimming in about 3/4" white soupy substance. This could have been exacerbated by the small bowl they were served in, but over easy doesn't mean runny white soup, so I brought this to the server's attention. He seemed surprised and asked me if I wanted more done. I specified again "over easy with set white and runny yellow". When I received my redo, the potatoes were cool. Even though the redo was just right, It fell flat against the cool, under seasoned potatoes. My check was delivered a moment later and I left disappointed and still hungry. Despite my less than stellar experience, I do appreciate that this diner offers 24/7 service in a small town. I will likely try Amphora again if I'm in Herndon at 3:00 am and feeling peckish. read more

The people in here are nice. The food is good and the prices are fair. I got eggs, bacon and coffee.

So, here's the deal about this place: It's a diner. nothing more, nothing less - and they do what they do very well - I have only eaten breakfast here and the breakfast options are like all other diners' breakfast options - absolutely magnificent. Yeah, they do not have the cool factor of the Silver diner, or the Tastee Diner. Those are the diners with the leather jackets and the mini-skirt wearing girlfriends and the packets of smokes stuffed in the muscle shirt sleeve. It's kind of the high-school nerd of the diner world, but hey, from one high school nerd to another, I heart you Ampshora diner. read more

Amphora is like taking trashy Silver Diner and attempting to make it classy (kind of like the new Britney Spears). I don't mean that in a derogatory way, I like Silver Diner and I like classic Britney (not this new dance club crap). I just tell it as I sees it. All in all, it's still a diner. Their menu selection is fairly large, so for a lunch crowd, it could be a little overwhelming to choose. I had the Fritata which is like a omelet with a little flair. It was good, it was filling, it was under $10. Color me satisfied. My friend ordered the falafel, which was good, but the tortilla wrap looked like it was sitting out since 2003 (Can you believe that was 5 years ago?!). The chocolate cake was small, frosting was hard, and definitely not worth the $5 price tag. If you're a fan of the new Britney, I'd recommend this place for lunch. It's a good change of the normal scene for our lunch crowd, but it's not in our Tier 1 of lunch selections. read more
