I've been meaning to write a review for months and now doing so I am VERY surprised at any negative reviews. My daughter rented a space there a few years ago and moved out months ago. They were always friendly, accommodating and provided security. There was never a bug or rodent problem and the place was always clean. As one who helped my daughter move in and out of this storage facility, I highly recommend them to anyone. For us, clean, rodent free, secure and friendly are exactly what we paid for. Pros None Cons Difficult owner/operators Poor customer service Unprofessional The owners operate this business. They don't care if you are a customer or not. Everything has to be properly done. You have to enter you entry code or they will ask you to go and do it. They want you out before closing; they will remind you that you only have half an hour left. Don't even dare complain; because they will end your contract at a moments notice. The owners/operators are extremely difficult about following every single rule down to its bone. I highly recommend you go to the many competing storage business around the San Diego County. They think they have the right to tell me I can pay money and I can put my stuff in a storage unit, but my daughter can not put here stuff in my unit. They took my money showed me the unit signed a contract, then a few minutes later once I got home, they called me and told me they don't want my daughter putting her stuff along with mine,in the storage building that I just rented. This is no way to run a business. They would rather lose out on money just to not let someone they don't like be there. I rented here for over 5 years. I've had multiple bad experiences here. The latest was an issue when I was a couple of minutes past closing time. Not purposely! One of my boxes blew out the bottom and I had to clean up the mess. In doing so, I noticed the time was getting close to 7pm. I started to take items to my car. When I got to my car, the lady who lives there started yelling at me. I told her the last time I checked my phone it said 6:55. She then stated that I was giving her attitude ( I was not. Simply made a statement). She then yelled at me "THERE'S GOING TO BE A PROBLEM." She then sicks her tall husband on me. He comes out yelling at me that "we ask you to be out by 7pm!" Way to do what your wife tells you. Thanks for showing patience & consideration for a long time (what am I?) Oh, that's right, I AM THE CUSTOMER. They treated me like a god-damn criminal! Staff is VERY unkind. The woman who "greeted" us was extremely rude, especially considering we were there as new renters. Before even renting a unit we were berated for parking inside the gate, despite there only being 2 small spots out front- one of them for handicapped and 0 cars parked inside. If you can't fit in one of those spots you're out on a main road. As another reviewer mentioned, the dog policy is ridiculous (no signs anywhere for this) as a dog can't even be left inside the car. In short, the customer service was awful. I'd hope you treat your renters better. read more

Avoid this place at all costs! Purchased and signed up for a 5' x 5' unit for $29/month. This was on Sunday 6/23. We rushed up there to do the paperwork at 4:30PM (before they closed at 5PM) so that we could just drop stuff off on Monday on our move up from San Diego to Santa Barbara. On Monday, we rented a Uhaul truck and my fiancé unloaded the ENTIRE Uhaul and brought it ALL upstairs. After moving in ONE Craftsman Industrial 3000 Tool Chest into the unit... they came up and said it was too much weight and he would need to stop. This was not told to us what-so-ever. I informed them of what we were putting into the unit. They NEVER mentioned a weight restriction. They offered him a downstairs unit for $47/month, but that is more than we are willing to pay. We were also going to speak to the owner on Tuesday 6/24 to pay for 2 years up front. I feel like we got the bait and switch. We could have just as easily gone to another storage place for the same price. My fiancé is in the process of re-loading the Uhaul right now - bringing everything back DOWNSTAIRS and into the truck. An ENTIRE day was wasted on this and it's absolutely ridiculous. read more

Have had the same storage unit with American Mini-Storage since 1991. The office staff, over the years, had always been friendly and helpful until now. Over the years, they would tell me to leave anything I didn't want in the hallway and that they would take care of it. Although there have been several rate' increases In a short amount of time and the unit I have always had is on the second floor, I stayed with this place because of the wonderful staff, There are no elevators,nor air-conditionng or pest control (my unit has rat turds in it presently), but I kept my stuff there because I liked the management. All that has now changed though. Went there to clean some stuff out yesterday. The man who works there saw us use the trash bin to throw a few bags of throwaway stuff out and promptly went ahead and locked it on us. Said the trash bin is only for mgt. We were expected to take our bagged trash in the car with us. Similarly, when we asked about letting go of a few things from storage, we were told not to put them in the hall and that we had to take them with us, Can't wait to pull all of our stuff out of this place. Have another unit at a different place in Carlsbad that comes with air-conditioning, elevators, pest-control and helpful, friendly staff. All for the same price, We will be renting another unit there instead of putting up with any further issues at this place. This is an old, kind of dirty facility and it's only saving grace had been the previous management. Time to move on and I encourage others to pass on this place and look elsewhere, too. Many other better facilities out there these days (for same price) that are run by helpful, pleasant staff. No need to take this treatment by anyone! read more

Absolutely love this place. Great prices. Protected my cherished items... Including my antique dressier vanity set. Management and weekend staff totally awesome..... Honestly I felt like I just had my stuff stored at my grandparents. I cried when I checked out. I had my stuff there a long time and I liked to pay in person so I could visit with them. I have been one of their customers for 15 years now. To hit me with 2 increases in one year? How many other loyal customers can say the same to such loyalty. Mind you in 15 years all they have done in improvements is fresh coat of paint outdoor and the building numbering. I would expect such a thing from your larger competitors like Public Storage, Price Self Storage or San Diego Self Storage but American Mini Storage where it's a mom and pop type of business with only one location? The inside of the buildings are no way in comparison to the above listed big named companies. Must be a new owner where greed comes into play. Not for his/her employees for they get free or discounted rent bit for his pocketbook. Time to look for something closer to home. Shame on you! read more

Very clean, extra safe, and excellent equipment like electric lifts and carts and dollies for your use. You will not find anyone living in their unit. Prices are very reasonable. Mature couple as managers who treat you with dignity and respect. It was during a heat wave and I was bewildered and exhausted when I came in to rent my space. The managers were so nice to me. They told me to sit on the couch and brought all of the paper work to me to sign. How nice was that? Highly recommended! read more

The managers and security at American mini storage are top notch. More than once, while I was putting stuff in or taking stuff out, they have stopped by to make sure everything was okay and to say hello. I like that there is a security gate to grant access, and that someone is on site constantly to make sure all is well. My boys and I also really appreciate the clean restroom they have available as well. read more
