Black sesame and red bean
Nina W.

I continue to enjoy coming here and trying out their new seasonal specials. This time, there was the black sesame and red bean ones that were available for mid-autumn festival. I've only tried the red bean so far, and it was fantastic. Lots of filling and the right amount of sweetness. I especially like the owner who is so personable and friendly. I will continue to come back here!

Okay... where have kolaches been my whole life? I genuinely had never even heard of them until my sister, who used to eat them all the time in Kansas City, saw this place and was like nope, you're trying this immediately. Apparently they started from Czech roots, got huge in Texas and the Midwest, and now Ashburn has them... and honestly, I get the hype now. We went a little overboard and basically bought one of almost everything so we could split them all. Zero regrets. The mac and cheese was hands down my favorite. Like... surprisingly addictive. The brisket was super solid, the beef dogs were great, sausage egg and cheese felt like a classic, and the spinach artichoke ended up being one of the biggest surprises because it was actually really good. We also tried sweet ones too, including the brownie and Danish, and both were worth it. Big bonus points for halal options too. Shoutout to Laray at the front because she was so sweet and took the time to explain flavors, answer our million questions, and help us narrow things down. Definitely more of a grab-and-go spot, but if you've never had kolaches before, this is such a fun place to do your first taste test. Safe to say... I finally understand.

Over all I'd give this place a solid 3.5 but it just didn't hit this time. To start I love kolaches and to find a place like this is very hard! Now I know I can 1 hour before close and so I'm sure that plays into this but I ordered 7 of them and only a few of them were really good. The service was spot on and the guy at the counter was nice but just over all just okay!

I've been wanting to try kolaches and this place just opened up in November 2025. The staff were super friendly and gave me an overview of the sweet and savory items. I picked up a couple to try and she informed us on how warm them up if I wasn't going to eat them right now. I tried the 'Merica, s'mores, jalapeños poppers, and bacon, egg, & cheese. All of them were good. I'll definitely will be coming back.

I wasn't familiar with kolaches before, but I believe they're a Czech pastry, so I decided to give American Kolache a try. They're a new local business offering both sweet and savory options. I wanted to try the bacon, egg, and cheese kolache, but it was already sold out, so I went with the chorizo, egg, and cheese instead. It was pretty good. The bread had a slight sweetness, and it was generously filled. It was served at room temperature, and I wasn't sure if that's how they're supposed to be, but I imagine it would've been even better warm. I also picked up the apple pie, cinnamon roll, and raspberry cream cheese kolaches. All were delicious, and thankfully I took them home and warmed them up in the microwave. They tasted even better that way. The staff was very friendly, answered all my questions, and gave great recommendations. My suggestion for the business would be to offer a warming station for the savory kolaches, and maybe even a flavorful dipping sauce similar to chimichurri to pair with them. Overall, it's definitely worth checking out and supporting a local spot. I'll be back to try that bacon, egg, and cheese next time.

Inside the Chorizo, Egg & Cheese

I came in very early one morning, while it was still dark... I stopped in because I read many reviews that we very positive about their food. Service was helpful, the lady working there was nice and helped explain/describe their food. I opted for a chorizo, egg, and cheese kolache. It was decent. The softness of the breading was great, but the texture was slightly on the rubbery side. She asked me if I wanted it hot and I heard what sounded like a microwave (hope it wasn't) that she put it in (hope it was a convection oven) before giving it to me. The flavors inside were pretty nice, but far from spicy and I was looking for something spicy. The egg was fresh, cheese was sparse. Overall - it was nice, but I would get another flavor the next time.

The kolaches were very good and really authentic. They are amply filled with meats, cheeses, fruit or whatever your order. The store has one table with 4 chairs inside and a couple of chairs and table outside. The person at the front counter was helpful and provided good customer service. It's about a 30 minute drive for us but we'll worth the trip. I highly suggest the jalapeño sausage.

The only downside was that the music was a little louder than I prefer, making conversation slightly difficult at times. Our waitress was incredibly personable and friendly, and she made us feel very welcome. Service was a bit slow, but it appeared she was the only server working that day, so it was understandable. The food more than made up for the wait. The biscuits were absolutely fantastic. The spring salad was one of the best salads I've had in a long time. The grilled chicken on top was seasoned beautifully and cooked perfectly, juicy and tender without being overdone. I'd definitely come back for the food and the welcoming service. Hopefully they'll have a little more staff next time, but it was still a very enjoyable meal.

She did a phenomenal job overseeing our whole group by herself. The food was good. I love a good southern comfort meal. But I'd be lying that I wasn't a little disappointed they didn't have chicken and waffles. They do have chicken and biscuits which looked good. But I was craving that delicious crispy meat over a savory waffle. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals. Not a single person complained. If anything, they said how much food they got! When in the area again, will take a stop here to enjoy their food again!

Started with an espresso martini, a smoked Old Fashioned, and the fritto misto to share. Everything was really good. Then we split the lamb burger and the shrimp risotto for lunch. Both were excellent, although I think the risotto edged out the burger. Our server Mike made the whole experience. Before he even brought us water, he showed up with a bowl for Onyx. Come on, that's an instant five stars in my book. We ended up talking wine with him for a good part of the afternoon. He had us sample a few different pours before we landed on a Nebbiolo we loved. Later, after another conversation about wine, he brought over a taste of a white we'd never even heard of because he thought we'd enjoy trying it. It never felt like an upsell. It just felt like talking with someone who genuinely enjoys wine and likes sharing it with people. Relaxing patio, great food, excellent cocktails, and genuinely memorable service. We'll definitely be back, and Onyx probably will too.

Ryan the bartender is friendly and will sit and talk with you if you're at the bar top. They've always got great food, great drinks, and sports on the TVs. The food here is always AMAZING. I've never had anything I didn't like here. I recently had the smoked wings and they were super flavorful. They are served with Buffalo sauce as well as your choice of ranch or blue cheese. My brother and I also had the pretzel braid on this trip and it was pretty good as well. I've had the pork spud before and it's a loaded baked potato with a pile of pulled pork on it. And it comes with a side as well! The chicken tenders are also awesome. It's a lot of chicken tenders on a plate with your choice of side and a honey sriracha dipping sauce. Highly recommend getting the tater tots. The service is always amazing. As stated earlier, Mark is the owner and he's always helping the staff out and making sure everyone dining in the restaurant is having a good experience. As the evening progressed, more people came in for dinner. The place has an industrial type vibe with exposed ceilings and concrete flooring. We were seated and greeted shortly after we entered. A server came along to ask us what we wanted to drink. I had a lemonade while my husband had a Coors Light. We decided to forego an appetizer after reading the descriptions and seeing that they were meant to feed more than two people. For dinner, I ordered the "Grilled Atlantic Salmon" which consists of: "grilled 8 oz. Atlantic Salmon Filet w Tamari Bourbon Glaze & your choice of side". For my side I chose "cheddar grits". My husband chose the "Shrimp and Grits which consists of: "8 Jumbo Shrimp and House Bacon sauteed w Onions & Garlic in Creole Sauce. Plated over creamy Cheddar Grits & topped w Green Onion". As for the food---I found that the salmon was properly prepared with a pink center. The tamari bourbon glaze was a nice accompaniment as it added a touch of sweetness to the dish. I wasn't impressed with the cheddar grits as I found them to be too dense with little to no flavoring. The melted cheddar cheese helped some to add flavor but I would skip ordering this side again. My husband thought that his grits were also too dense with little flavor. The sauce portion was stingy and he used it to dip his shrimp in it. He did appreciate that the shrimp were served with the tails removed and were properly cooked. Taking inflation into consideration, this dinner was reasonably priced at $58 + change before the tip. Service was good as more than one server checked on us to see if all was well. We would consider going again and perhaps trying their burgers and sandwiches.
