Do not recommend--stay away! I called three weeks in advance to book an appointment and specifically told them the car required an HP Tuners ECU unlock. The technician assured me he knew exactly what he was doing. When we brought the car in, he initially said it would be a one-day job. However, upon delivery, he demanded an additional $250 and claimed the car would now take three days. We waited an entire week, only for him to call us back and explain the problem--which was the exact ECU unlocking process I had explicitly told him about at the very beginning. They completely wasted our time and lacked basic professional communication. I honestly don't know how they stay in business. read more

I dropped off my Factory Five Cobra for some carburetor tuning. Rick, the owner, and Wheat, the mechanic, tuned up my carburetor, found that I had the wrong spark plugs, and took care of some nut/bolt issues. I was extremely pleased with their knowledge, workmanship, and professionalism. Pricing was fair, and I'll be taking her back again when the need arises. The car runs great! read more

I brought my 65 Mustang GT to AHP to have them look over the engine and help set a restoration plan in motion. Step one was to deal with carburetor problems which was easily solved with a new Edelbrock carb and manifold which they installed. It ran great when I picked it up and I was super pleased with their work. The next day when I tried to drive the car, I noticed it was having a hard time shifting into second and third gears. I suspected a vacuum leak and checked the connection to the manifold to find it was solid and secure. I called Rick to ask for advice and he said to bring it in which I did. He found the problem was the rubber hose from the steel tube to the vacuum module in the transmission had burst. He replaced it and had me on the road in about 30 minutes. Rick and Alex are top notch guys that know cars and go the extra mile for the customers. All the guys in the garage are great at what they do and seem to take great pride in their work. I would definitely recommend American High Performance for anyone looking to enhance their ride or to bring it back to factory specs. read more

This is the "my mechanic" I've been looking for for so long. These guys are GREAT. I am super super picky when it comes to my 2004 Mustang. I've done all my own work to my cars my whole life but I needed some welding related work done to install a Torque arm. They did such a good job that I took it back later to replace the clutch. Both times when the car left the bay it was 100% better than when I dropped it off. No problems and everything was installed perfectly. They also went above and beyond for no reason other than being awesome. The sub-frame connectors that were in the car already were a bit rusty and they painted the entire thing for me! They didn't even tell me they did it, I actually noticed it and had to thank them. A "regular" shop would not do this. As for price, I think its more than fair. It's definitely a bit higher than some cheap places near DC but its beyond worth the price. I won't be taking my car any where but here. read more

Yelps review software is bogus! There are four Five (5) star reviews filtered below for reasons I don't know. One of them is a repeat customer that I know personally. The One star guy has done one review since June of 2014 but his is not filtered! Go figure? Scratches head? I would give American High Performance Five stars but that would definitely be filtered here on Yelp so I'm giving them my four star rating for fear of the reasons mentioned above. American High Performance does not pay for any advertising on Yelp to help keep their costs streamlined and passes their media savings on to the customer. Now, on to my review of American High Performance. This review will be somewhat biased because I've known Rick and his family for nearly ten years now; and I've known Wheat (The Man Behind The Curtain) for nearly 13 years. I believe Rick to be one of the most honest and trustworthy men in the auto service industry. ALERT!!! American High Performance is NOT the cheapest place in town. So, if that's what you're looking for, skip the rest of this review because AHP is "probably" not for you. However, if what you are seeking is a performance shop that stands behind their work 100%, are committed to your overall happiness and complete satisfaction, then you need to talk to Rick or to his son Alex, who by the way, has been working there beside his father since he was in diapers! Just kidding , Alex. Collectively, a real cohesiveness exists between all of these guys. Rick truly has a passion for muscle cars and horsepower. Wheat is a... well...he's a "Genius"! His tuning capability is far beyond driven! Wheat also doesn't hold any punches. He'll do whatever you want to your automobile but if he thinks (which means he knows) it's not necessary, he'll let you know, and he'll let you know why. Wheat was the "Mad Scientist" behind my 2004 Mustang GT. With the right combination of parts and great machine shop service from Springfield Custom Machine, "Lloyd you are the man" and cylinder head work performed by the legendary, Curtis Boggs of RFD (Race Flow Development) Wheat tuned my Mustang to an amazing 589 RWHP on a modest tune. That's on a 2V by the way! So, if you are looking for the best, give the fellas at American High Performance a call and tap into the true potential of your automobile. You won't regret it! I was looking for ways to increase HP on my 2016 Dodge Challenger R/T Plus. Alex helped cut through all the bull and told me what my most effective options were. I was new to the world of superchargers so I had lots of questions which I'm sure he's heard 1,000 times before. But Alex was great about answering all of them. The install was excellent and they sent videos and soft copies of the Dyno runs (one of which is posted on their Facebook page) to keep me updated before they did their shakedown runs. I'm happy to say I have all the HPs I wanted and MORE! Thankfully Alex recommended going with a wider rear tire otherwise those stock ones would be breaking traction all too easily. Alex and crew also installed new brakes and an exhaust kit I had purchased previously. I am happy with all of the installs and their customer service. This car is like a whole new beast now. I brought my 2004 Mustang GT to AHP to replace stock mufflers with Magnaflows and change the differential gearing. This is specialty type work that most places can't do well, but they got it right the first time. I would recommend them to others. read more

AHP installed a set of BC coilovers on 2015 Dodge Challenger. They most graciously spent more time adjusting coilovers to desired ride so that I would be satisfied. I took my vehicle to try and have it tuned and find out why my check engine light kept coming on. After talking to them over the phone for several days, which by the way, their phone manners are beyond the worse, I finally took my car there to be checked out. I left my car there for almost 2 days to get calls and rudeness about my light not coming on at all. So with trying to be a customer and possibly having my car tuned, they tell me it would cost me around $600. I've gotten quotes for half that from other places and it includes dyno. I decided to take my business elsewhere and kindly asked to pick up my car, when I do, they try and bill me for a check engine light service. The light never came on and they even said that themselves, and to try and bill me for something that never happened was outrageous!!! I couldn't believe it. To top it off, the guy snatches the invoice for which I am being billed for and tears it up in from of my face with complete disrespect and rudeness!!! I couldn't believe my eye that a business would do such a thing!!! I want honest paying customers to be aware of what could happen from this place because like myself, I am happy to spend my money on quality work and great customer service with respect!!! I'm sorry but I'm old school when it comes to having people manners and respect. read more
