Don't take your car to this dump truck shop they will damage you car and lie to about it right Joe !!! And then leave parts undone they don't second check their work . if your brave enough to get you car torn up better take pictures of everything on you car and that means the bottom too .just like running my car in and hitting one of the lift peddle's the wasn't put down destroyed my pipes the did a shit job of trying to put them back straight .Now I have to go get them replace because of this shop. like I said roll the dice your gonna end up with SNAKE EYE'S AND THEN you will have to go else where to get their screw ups fixxed costing you more out of you pocket to get you car PROPERLY FIXED RIGHT . and yes I have pictures of this screw job and won't be sending any body to this no class shop ever . read more

We took our 2001 chysler van in to have the engine rebuilt. The job they did was great and cost was very fair$5,200. And they rebuilt the transmisson for $1,750 and now i have a great running van once again for a fraction of the price of a new one. We have always kept this vehicle looking like new so the work was a no brainer. They did however miss a loose motor mount. read more

When I sent in my Toyota Rav-4 for a rebuild, A & I Engines charged me nearly $6,000 bucks and kept the car for two months! The car came back running very rough. I sent it back and they said I "should be using Premium gas" so the rough running and intermittent idling would go away. I ran Premium for a month with no improvement. I sent it back in, they sent it back saying they could not find a problem that I "should replace the fuel filter..." After FOUR RETURNS - and a lot of extra repairs, I finally went to Lithia Toyota who charged me 700-bucks to pull the engine and properly time the gears. It ran fine after that. When I sent in the legitimate bill from Toyota to correct "American & Import Engine's" PROBLEM... they have never responded to my respectful requests for an adjustment to my bill. Their stalling has run the time out for taking them to court. In the past I had two engines rebuilt by this outfit - they USED to be more trustworthy and responsive: Don't believe their ads. I am sad to say that I will NEVER TRUST that company ever again!! BE WARNED... IF, you have problems with this outfit, file a claim with the courts ASAP!! My teenage daughter recently took her Toyota Pick-Up for a swim while out four wheeling with the big boys. After submerging her truck in several feet of water, then driving it, her engine stopped working. Well, we found out that she had sucked water into the intake of her motor, and surprise, surprise, her engine locked up and quit. We took the engine to A&I in Redding for a rebuild The manager, Joe was very helpful in giving us options on replacing or rebuilding the motor. We opted to rebuild her engine. So far, it seems like they did an awesome job on the rebuild. Hell, the motor looks brand new, and came with a 12K warranty. The head was also damaged, and A&I replaced the head at a reasonable cost delivering a new long block and head after only four days. As long as they stand by their warranty, I am a huge fan of A&I Import Engines. We have had good luck so far, and hope that things continue to run smoothly. My daughter learned a very expensive lesson about treating your vehicle right, and not 4 wheeling with your only mode of transportation. read more

This is a premium machine shop, and highly recommended. The same guy who I talked to on the phone also did the machine work, and I was a little worried when I came in and he wasn't taking notes on my requirements. But when I got the block back, it was decked, and bored & honed exactly how I asked, and I mean within a few tenths (.0002"). In disbelief, I measured it again the next day to make sure I wasn't seeing things, because to get all the bores that close is a stroke of luck. They must have new machines or keep them very maintained, because I am beyond satisfied with the clearances they cut. Not to mention, the internal parts were cheaper than online, and they even helped me press in some piston pins on short notice at no charge. Long story short, these guys are awesome. read more

Traveling through Redding our Check Engine light went on and we were stuck. It was 6 pm and shops were closed. Not knowing what the problem was and then not knowing any auto repair shops that would be willing to take a look and repair the same day, needless to say we were a little stressed. We spent the night at a hotel and started calling shops in the morning. After all our calls resulted in "No, we can't help you", American & Import Engines had us come right over. It was close to the hotel and we drove over. It ended up being a spark plug issue, nothing too serious. Bottom line is they were willing to help us out and had us in and out within 3 hrs. We drove home and were so very thankful for the folks at American & Import Engines. Would highly recommend them to anyone in the Redding area. read more

I took my 2003 Chevy Silverado in to A&I to have the engine overhauled or replaced. Joe was very upfront about the options and costs. I wanted to use the existing block and heads because I had determined that was preferable to installing a new crate motor. Joe advised that my selected course of action could involve some continuing adjustments for the ancillary equipment to accommodate the overhauled engine. After a break-in period and addressing a couple of minor issues (at no cost to me) my truck is running better than when it was new. Gas mileage is improved, the engine runs at lower RPM, and I am a happy customer. A&I has provided great guidance, solid customer service, and follow-on. I am confident that my truck will provide great service for another 15 years. read more

Recently had my engine rebuilt and after paying $7100.00 I got my car back only to discover the following day that they had put the wrong motor oil in my car which caused my check engine light to come on. Then they said they use same oil in all cars that they service which is bad. They told me I needed a new radiator, water pump and battery as well. Then a short time later my car started to overheat. I had it towed to them and they said it would cost $450.00 at least to replace the fans because the fans, motors and relays were all in one. I know this is not true so I called tow to pick up my car and when we got to shop, they had already dismantled my car to the point it could not be towed, without permission. I would not recommend them to anyone!!!!!! Just bad business ethics. read more

I won a $5000 engine rebuild credit at Kool April Nites a few years ago and the credit belonged to A and I engines, please keep in mind this was going into a 1968 Chevelle so I asked for a 383 stroker at around 450 HP, this car does not get driven every day, lets say maybe 500 miles per year and the last 2-3 years less than 20 miles because of upgrades I was making for the car shows. Not only did Joe at American and Import make this raffle win a terrible experience, The raffle was for an engine build of what I wanted with the parts I wanted up to $5000, What I got was an engine thrown together with a stock 400 crank and 350ci 5.7" rods with dished pistons (which would never yield the HP I wanted) and 72 cc heads which made the compression even lower for even less power and torque.... I asked for a 383 with a scat 383 rotating assembly with forged flat top pistons and aluminum 64 cc heads he did not deliver the engine I asked for and tried to tell me he had $5200 in parts and labor in the motor and wanted me to pay the difference!!!! This engine right now has less than 800 miles on it and there's scoring on 4 of the 8 cylinders which should not be there on an small block with less than 800 miles on it. None of the components are what I asked for its like he just picked up block and threw it together with no attention to detail. I had to tear this engine down because it wasn't running right and my spark plugs were wet which is a sign of bad rings or leaking valve seals. I found that not only did this professional engine shop not put forged flat top piston in this engine like I asked for (put dished pistons in this build) in this 383 build they put nothing in this charity raffle build that I asked for and from what I've seen on the cylinder walls that's where the oil is coming from. They didn't use the I beam rods I asked for and they didn't use a steel crank like I asked for and they used open chambered heads with those dished pistons which would not give me the power I wanted for a street car. So the engine rebuild credit I WON that was supposed to come out to 5k is more like $200....the price of a core 350 to build into a 383. If this is how JOE treats people that buy tickets for an engine credit in a raffle that goes directly into a charity I can only imagine the lack of ethics and attention to detail he puts into his customers.....and Ive heard quite a few bad stories and one just last work from a coworker..... The high I got from actually winning something of value has been shot down and I have to spend money now to have a credible shop rebuild this engine. My advice stay away from JOE and A and I engines what a freaking nightmare, I don't think they could build a good reliable lawn mower engine! What a disaster! Over charged for work not actually performed. Caught them red handed at more than one occasion. They think their the only shop in town so they can do what they want on machine shop pricing. I recommend you srnd your motor off and get it built right the first time with no headache. read more

A&I agreed to install an engine I provided in my vehicle. When the engine arrived I brought in my car. Once they had my engine out they called to say the replacement was the wrong engine. Said I needed to pay $600 to take the car off the rack since they had removed the engine, and the wheels for access. Or I could pay $1900 to rebuild my engine and $1300 to reinstall it. The next day we determined from the seller that it was not the wrong engine. There were numerous delays, and each time they tried to charge me for their errors, including discarding an intake gasket they received bolted to the intake, then trying to get me to pay for the replacement and overnight shipping. I had to repeatedly contact the seller for intervention and in every instance it was their fault. After four weeks I received my car back leaking copious amounts of oil because they missed a gasket. When I called I was told it was not their fault, but when I spoke with the seller of the engine he explained they ignored a large red caution label and thus failed to check for leaks before installing. When I told them there were fumes that smelled like gas as well, I was told that I must not have filled the tank properly. Now the washer fluid to the back window sprays out by the passenger door. I took it back and was told by Joe, when he determined that he could not easily reach it, that I must have had a flat and repaired it incorrectly because they were never near the wheel, even though they tried to get me to pay for putting the wheels back on when they removed them. I have AAA and brand new tires, and I explained I have not had a flat but he insisted I listen to his "scenario". When I told him I certainly didn't do it he said he couldn't be sure of that. All I want is my car fixed correctly and they have repeatedly erred, blamed me and tried to get me to pay for their mistakes. No bueno. I filed a complaint with Consumer Protection in hopes of getting my car repaired. read more
