Had to stop by and check out this concept! Thanks to Yelpers who advised us to download the app first. On our way out, we saw a bunch of people standing outside on their phones, supposedly trying to download the app first. :) So we were able to skip the waiting because we had already downloaded the app. For some reason I imagined the place to be bigger. But after taking a loop around the store, I realized it's pretty limited. Just some snacks, to-go foods, desserts, sodas/drinks, and some knickknacks like mugs. Prices were pretty high, in our opinion. But I figured you're paying for the experience or the convenience. At first, we weren't sure how everything worked. Like, is it okay if my husband carries stuff, if we're using the app on my phone? (They said it was okay if he carried stuff too). Do I have to keep my phone out? (I don't think we do, because nobody else seemed to). Fascinating to see all the cameras in the ceiling. One of these days I'll have to read more about how it all works. Such a unique experience and I just kept giggling after we left because it was so different. Felt so strange not going through a checkout counter! Today I popped into the new Amazon Go on 132nd in Mill Creek. I purchased a turkey & Swiss croissant sandwich as well as Melt in your Mouth cookie from Alki Bakery. The sandwich was decent. The cookie tasted old. I looked for an expiration date, did not find o e. But what I did find was the date the cookie was packaged...01/29/22! What?!! I just purchased a cookie, from a brand new store, that was packed 4mos ago?!! Pretty disappointing Amazon. Things were over priced in comparison to a grocery store or even a small convenience store. I thought it might be worth it for convenience once in awhile but not when you have to sacrifice quality. Amazon failed again. read more

I've been meaning to try out Amazon Go after hearing So much about it, and I'm still pretty mind blown with the technology behind how all of this is implemented. They have WiFi at the store, which allows people to download the Amazon Go app before they enter. Once you have the app opened and signed into your Amazon account, you scan your QR image and walk right through the gates. Sort of like a subway station. It's really small inside, you literally make three turns and you've finished browning it's entirety. They offer bright orange reusable bags or paper bags where you can browse around and place things directly in your bag. The set up is relatively simple, much like a convenience store, except they have a large wall of sandwiches and ready-to-eat food, which is decently priced. Definitely convenient to come in and grab a quick snack or lunch. afterwards, you simply walk right out of the store and they send your receipt within a couple minutes. I came here after work at 5pm, which means naturally everyone else in downtown also got off so the store itself was incredibly cramped. It's kind of amazing how the sensors work so smoothly to identify that you, and only you are the sole purchaser of the items you select, and not mistaken you to be someone else who grabbed the same thing off the shelf at the same time. Amazon Go could be the future of shopping. You scan your phone when you enter the store. You grab stuff that you want to purchase. And then you leave. No checkout. No lines. No awkward conversations with cashiers. Currently, there are five Amazon Go stores in Seattle, four in San Francisco, six in Chicago, and three in New York City. The technology behind Amazon Go is both impressive and frightening. Sensors and hundreds of small cameras see everything happening in the store. Store shelves have weight sensors to detect which items a customer takes. If you pick an item off the shelf, put it back, and decide to purchase something else, Amazon's technology is able to track all of that. If you take an item off the shelf, it will be added to your virtual cart. Similarly, if you place an item back on the shelf, it is removed from your virtual cart. The store's machine learning and computer vision are impressive and state-of-the-art yet a little scary. As far as prices, I think they are comparable to (or maybe a tad higher than) similar convenience stores. Space is limited so they don't have everything you'll find in a Safeway or a Fred Meyer. There are at least two staff members at all times. One of them helps new customers get in. The other one is stationed at the liquor area. There must be a couple other staff members who restock supplies. Aside from being a tourist attraction because it has pushed the boundaries of customer shopping experience, Amazon Go mostly benefits people who work nearby and are always on-the-go. The sandwiches and meals are decent, so I could see why somebody who's in a hurry would prefer to grab a quick bite from Amazon Go, and not from a restaurant where they have to wait in line to order and wait again for their food to arrive. It was a fantastic first visit! I was in and out in under 3mins. Talk about a quick, stress free, lunch spot! I hate to say this but it just felt wrong, haha! You just take what you want... then leave. If you want to check it out you need to do a few things first! 1) Download the Amazon Go App 2) Log into your account 3) Choose your preferred payment. Done! Then it's you just scan the QR code, walk in, grab your items (they do offer bags, but pro-tip bring your own), then just.... walk out. This spot in particular feels more like a café then grocery shopping. More of a lunch spot or a quick snack, not a whole cart full of items. They will soon have wine and beer so maybe even pick something up before HH or dinner? Who knows. It was definitely a fun and enjoyable experience! read more

I finally made it inside an Amazon Go! Been hearing about this place for a couple of years, mostly from my geeky friends, but I guess I'm cooler than them now since I actually was inside one. It's a cool concept and a possible glimpse of our future of shopping. You download the app, attach a credit/debit card to it, swipe it to go in, grab what you want from the shelf, and walk out. It charges everything to your card. I thought it would have more stuff like a Target, but it was more like a 7-11, with single meals, sandwiches, snacks, drinks, etc. It's located next to the Spheres so you can grab your snacks/food and chill out in the outdoor area. All of the Amazon Go locations have steadily declined to the point Amazon should be embarrassed. This week I went to the Amazon Go at headquarters. A lot of the shelves were empty, a common occurrence since they opened. The prepared foods selection and quality has also gone down in quantity and quality. At first they offered selections from local restaurants and food purveyors. Now it's almost all Amazon brand, and we find the quality of Amazon brand prepared foods similar to 7-11. Complaints and feedback sent in online and delivered in person go unanswered. read more

First you need to download the app and login to your Amazon (you need to connect a card to your account first). As you walk in you'll need to scan the barcode shown on the app. The store was smaller than expected but has all of the essentials for quick meals and basic groceries. It was a long time before I got round to visiting an Amazon Go and it was a sad little place with poor stock and workers too busy talking to each other to help out on app instructions. I deleted the app. Perhaps this place worked when they started out, but they've laid off thousands of workers, and the focus I presume is still on reliable deliveries, not the walk-in stores. I dunno if I'll visit one again but since I'd have to download the app again, probably never. read more

Certainly puts the "convenience" into "convenience store". My boyfriend wanted to check it out while we were visiting Seattle, and yup, it was a cool and quick experience. There were quite a few people inside the small store on the Friday afternoon we dropped by. To enter, you need the Amazon Go app, which is synced with your Amazon account, on your phone, but you can additionally swipe in family members and others at the turnstiles. My guess is that when someone is swiped in, some information about that person is captured and tied to the account, and then cameras continue to track that person around the store. When someone grabs an item off a shelf, and when that person places it back, it's processed by cameras and sensors. (Notably, Amazon claims that no facial recognition technology is used.) One thing that would be nice is if, while in store, the app told you what items you'd selected as well as the total price in your cart, so that you could see what would be eventually charged. I think after we walked out, the items bought were in "pending" status for a while. The food is better than your standard convenience store, albeit not super extensive or impressive. There are some pretty decent prepared food options, and some that looked relatively healthy. They've also got some alright snacks and a small fruit section. I walked out with a bag of oddly addicting dry-roasted edamame and one of the few unbruised bananas. Afterwards, we sat by the Spheres (which is a pretty pleasant outdoor area to chill for a bit) to eat our snacks. If this concept gets big and the stores expand to having more options, that would be awesome. I really like the efficiency of not having to interact with anyone, and not having to self checkout either. It's a novelty now, but it could be the future :) read more

This was a WILD experience. I can see why a ton of tourists come here because this place seems almost too futuristic and unreal. This is essentially a small grocery shop - so small that it's basically one of those grab and go places. A lot of things in here are single meals or bags of snacks/chips. You literally scan your app, walk in, walk around, grab what you want, and walk out. I think it's safe to say that MOST (not all... some people are used to this) people in here are experiencing it for the first time. A novelty, but not much more. It's famous because it's one of they use technology to enable the no-human-intervened shopping process. However, they get so many tourists that they have to have service staff just to direct the traffic and explain to tourists what it is. All of their merchandises were small -catering to single meals or the single life style-- kinda the opposite from Costco. They do have a small eating area adjacent to the store and you can heat up the frozen or cold items to have a meal. I didn't find anything impressive or unique. Most of the products are things I've seen elsewhere, only smaller in size. But if you are a tourist this place is worth a quick stop to take a look. Lots of people taking photos and checking things out so weekends or holidays can be crowded. read more

The store is clean. Very little interaction with staff (that's the idea) but those I've met are friendly and helpful. However, selection is very limited. The hot case was a welcome addition, but the sandwiches aren't great - overcooked and very difficult to eat since they aren't cut in half. Not recommended. It's very frustrating that there are never bags available. I can't pick up things for coworkers, so I'm limited to what I can carry or cram into my pockets. The Amazon Go store is as close to legal shoplifting as you can get. This has got to be the future of retail. You check into the store with the Amazon Go app, after which a vast array of sensors tracks you as you pick up items around the store. When you're done shopping, you simply walk out and Amazon bills your account. No cashiers to deal with. As an app user, you're able to check guests in with you. The wife and I roamed the store picking up items, putting items back on the shelf, and trying to trick the sensors in other ways. We ended up taking 13 items. And Amazon charged us correctly for all of them. Very impressive, and a bit scary. Using this technology, Amazon can better understand foot traffic patterns in the store and get data on which items get the most attention. They can also build a profile of each shopper's preferences and habits, which can be useful but also a privacy concern. The store itself is a convenience/grocery store, plus a side area with microwaves and power outlet-equipped seating. Selection is reasonable, but you won't find a ton of raw produce here. Some things are reasonably priced, while others are priced a bit higher than at a typical grocery store. Quality was generally good, except the mixed greens we bought were 12 days past the "best by" date. When I discovered that some of the greens were rotting, I requested a refund, which Amazon promptly honored. Amazon Go is all about enhancing convenience through technology. Perhaps this type of store will become the norm in another decade, but for now, I'm completely fine with doing my grocery shopping the old fashioned way. read more

The future is now. Amazon go is such a neat concept. A convenient store where you can leave your wallet at home while you shop and check out without any human interaction. Fist you need to download the Amazon Go app and set it up. It's setup from your Amazon account and linked credit card. As you walk into the store you swipe in with your phone and the provided scan key from the app. You can check a nonmember in under your account as well. As you pick items off the shelf they are added to your virtual cart. If you put the item back, it is taken out of the cart. When you are finished you just walk out if the store. All payment and processing are done via your amazon account and app. Shortly after you will receive a text showing your receipt.. even the amount of time you spent in the store. Easy peasy! The store contains items you'd find in stop and go store. Food, drinks, snacks, prepared meals and house hold type items. The only human interaction I spotted was near the alcohol corner. I assume she checks that you're legal to toss a bottle of wine or two in the bag The hole process was super easy. I'm sure we will see more of these store pop up around us soon. read more

So cool! It felt like I was in the future. I had to check out Amazon Go while in Seattle. I downloaded the app before I arrived and was ready to go. Don't wait until you get there and then hold up the line/block the entrance while your are downloading the app. I looked around, picked up and put back several things before leaving. My receipt was emailed to me within minutes and was accurate. I would love for this technology to be more widely available. I can be impatient. Many times I have left a store without buying because I was only getting a few things and the lines weren't worth the wait. read more

Shopping can't get easier! Amazon Go is a convenient store where you scan their app and then pick out whatever you like and then just walk out of the building. It charges it through the app without you even having to swipe a card! I noticed that there are other locations in Seattle, along with San Francisco, NYC, and Chicago. They are building more in those locations but I hope that they build more in other cities! I would love having stores like this close by since I already use Apple Pay often, but this is even more time saving! I believe that tourist often stop by these locations just like I did. So my recommendation is that there are a few unique (gift shop type) items for purchase also like a mug or stickers. The store, attached to the Day 1 building, is a little small and can definitely feel cramped as people start piling in. Grab and go essentially. Not a huge selection, but you can get the basics here (cheese, salads, snacks beverages, and meal kits). It did feel weird to put stuff in my bag and just walk out. First timer I was in Seattle WA and I live in Oregon and I wish we had one! Ok any who so this was the coolest experience ever! The store is like a mini market with Whole Foods vibes. Everything looks delicious and quality ingredients. We got to talking to the employee who explained how everything works. Yes, I waited in line to go to the new grocery store where there are no checkout lines. The irony is not lost on me. But then again, this is Seattle, and we own our lines and waiting in them is a badge of honor for us. Especially if it's raining. And also, it was opening day of this brand-new technology, and everyone wanted to check it out. As the new "just walk out" grocery store, there are no checkout lines. "Computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning" allow the store to automatically track when you pick up and put back items, then when you've finished shopping, you can just head on your way, no checkout required. Your Amazon account will be charged for whatever you walk out with. First off, I've seen a few misconceptions about Amazon Go floating around, so touching on them seems to be a good place to start. Real people do actually work there, and there are zero robots. There's an entire kitchen team whipping up the ready-to-eat salads and sandwiches, doormen to answer questions and give out free Amazon Go reusable shopping bags, and guys stocking the shelves. There are at least a couple people near the doors, to help people get scanned in if they're having technical difficulties. And a guy standing by the liquor who'll card you and keep kids from grabbing it. It's just that they aren't working as cashiers. It's not really replacing your grocery store. Or mine; at least not in this iteration. It's a convenience store, but upgraded. There are bottled and canned drinks, snacks and chocolates, sandwiches and salads, liquor, take-and-make boxed dinners (very similar to something like Hello Fresh), a few household and pantry staples like toilet paper and ramen (that's a staple I promise), and a tiny little bit of fresh meats. There are quite a few local Seattle products available, like Theo's Chocolates and Tim's chips. But there are no aisles, no rows of fresh produce. And it's not very big at 1,800 square feet. It's designed for quick trips. The Amazon Go app provides a QR code that you scan to enter the store and start your shopping session. The gates look a lot like subway terminal or theme park gates, and they open up when you scan your code. The app itself links up to your Amazon account, and you can choose your payment method from the ones listed there. If your phone is dead when you get there, they have chargers available so you can quickly power-up and scan yourself in. Once inside, the world is your oyster. I tested out picking up several different items, walking around with them, and then putting them back. We'll pretend it was for research and not because I'm indecisive. If you need spot to microwave and nosh on whatever you just picked up, Amazon has you covered. There's a small seating area with microwaves, napkins, plasticware, and most importantly: hot sauce packets, free wifi, and charging stations. I won't lie, it was a bit awkward to "just walk out." It does feel a little like you're shoplifting the first time you go. Everyone I saw there was just as awkward and hesitant to leave. We've spent our whole lives being told we're not allowed to take things from stores, and it's probably going to take some getting used to. The only real danger I see is the same one that's been around for a while with credit cards: people over-buying because it doesn't feel like you're actually spending your money. But rest assured, you are. A few minutes after I left the store, I got a notification showing me the items the store claimed were in my bag when I left. I had the opportunity to remove items from the receipt that I felt I was charged for incorrectly, but there were none. All of those things I'd picked up and walked around with and put back did get removed from my virtual cart. Fun fact: it also tells you how long your shopping trip was. I clocked in at 10 minutes and 9 seconds, most of which was walking around taking pictures and seeing what was available. Right around an hour after I approved of my cart, I got the email receipt showing that my Amazon account, and therefore my debit card, had been charged. But how was the food? I really enjoyed the BKLT Wrap I got. And some of those salads looked wonderful. I especially want to try the Steak Nicoise Salad next time I stop in, since it was sold out by the time I got there. I realize that this is supposed to be a place to do your actual shopping, but for me it was a tourist attraction. And honestly, it's a great tourist attraction. On a recent trip to Seattle it was my favorite place I visited. Much more fun than the Space Needle or Pike Place or the other more traditional tourist spots. You wouldn't think that this setup would need many staff members, but there are an awful lot of them standing around. Mostly just to answer questions, I think. The young man I talked to was extremely patient answering all of my many, many questions, and didn't get the least bit upset as I ran around trying to trick the system. And I'm disappointed/happy to report that I wasn't successful. Despite numerous attempts to fake pick up/really pick up/fake put back/actually put back/put back in the wrong place, I checked out with exactly what was in my bag. If you have more than one person shopping on one account, you scan your phone and have that person enter. Then you scan the phone again and then walk on through yourself. Admittedly, it's a lot smaller than I anticipated, but it's perfect for people who work in the area and need a quick bite to eat. food is actually pretty good. I got a turkey spinach wrap with cheese for about $5. It was pretty good. Also grabbed some gummy bears and a couple of drinks. They also had a small beer selection - Which I thought was pretty cool. They have a person standing there that checks your ID before you walk on out with the stuff. They are pretty well stocked as they had a couple of people running around replenishing the shelves as people came in to grab things. There's a little garden space between the Amazon domes and the Amamzon Go where we camped out to eat our purchases. Neat little place. I recommend! read more
