mmm cupcakes. yah they make em here. and they make em GOOD. in my mind there is a formula composed of if the bakery charges too much/too little and the cupcake is too big/too small and the quality is disgusting/delicious. ok so alyssa;s cupcakes were reasonable priced, well sized and delicious. so the formula works out that THIS PLACE ROCKS. sure, it is totally off the beaten path if you dont live in wallingford. but i think its worth going a little out of your way for reasonably priced well sized deliciousness. and the staff was friendly, so that helps! read more

My favorite cupcake place in the area, whenever I need cupcakes I always go here! She even has cake pops some times! The first time I ever went here was during shark week and she had the cutest cupcakes made with little shark fins!! The only downfall is that whenever I go in there aren't many cupcakes left. I don't write reviews very often, and when I do they are usually to warn others but I feel COMPELLED to write a GLEAMING recommendation for Alyssa and her team. First of all, I probably wasn't the easiest customer to deal with. I wasn't clear with much of anything: my pick up/delivery dates, what exactly I wanted (the look, flavors, size) but Alyssa went out of her way to make sure she provided me with a stellar product, and out of this world it was. The cake was a Casino Themed birthday cake and everything about it was INCREDIBLE. It was highly detailed, with multiple colors and layers and the details were intricately placed. Every person at the party (about 80 guests) commented on how beautiful the cake looked and made jokes about how they didn't want to cut it. It's funny how everyone kind of expected, this cake is for the looks not for the cake inside, but they were absolutely wrong. Everyone was BLOWN AWAY with the cake inside as well. I cant tell you how many times I heard the phrase, "I think this is the best cake I've ever eaten." It was moist but fluffy and the flavors, forget about it! We had funfetti and the reece's pieces flavor inside with buttercream frosting.......TO DIE FOR. I live in Stamford, CT and went out of my way to Wallingford, CT for this cake. WORTH EVERY SECOND. Wonderful new addition to Wallingford. My husband has been there twice in 3 days, enough said? I found the cupcakes to be moist, flavorful and absolutely delicious!!! Loved the buttercream frosting as well as the cream cheese frosting, can't wait to try their cakes. I have been to Georgetown Cupcake in Washington D.C., Magnolia Bakery in NY, and a specialty cupcake bakery in Newport RI, name not worth remembering and thought that Ayssa's were so much better!!!! Cute little bakery in the center of Wallingford. I love sweets, so it was hard to just pass by without stopping. I opted for one cupcake to bring home and share with my husband. It was blueberry coconut. I was pretty good. I had to take away one star as the frosting is super sweet. I mean really over-the-top sweet. Otherwise, the cupcake was tasty. This place is amazing! I needed a cake for my mother's 90th Birthday party. I found Alyssas on line and looked at the cakes on her gallery. Everything looked great so I went into the shop and met Alyssa who was hard at work in the back. She is very sweet and communicates very well. I ordered the 12 inch two layer buttercream cake, with Buttercream frosting in Lavender/Purple Ombre. When my husband, who is not usually impressed with baked goods, picked up the cake, he was blown away. It was impressive, and was the highlight of the party. SO many people commented about how beautiful it was that I lost count. The taste of the cake equaled its beauty! Moist and chocolatey, with raspberry filling, it was incredible. This girl has talent! Let me start out by saying I'm not a huge cake fan. However, the couple of times I've dealt with Alyssa and her staff have been amazing. I have a friend who is gluten free and she made cupcakes for me with no hesitation. My friend said they were very good. They also made a cake for us for our Relay for Life wrap up, and although that event was rained out, those who had the cake spoke highly about it. My dog is also a huge fan of their doggy treats and they don't bother his stomach which is a huge plus with his sensitive stomach. So, although I can't really comment on the product myself, the customer service, atmosphere and staff are definitely top notch. read more

STAY AWAY!! Horrible customer service and quality. The cake fell apart due to large cracks in the bottom tier. Alyssa said it must have been from the car ride. The cake was fine until we tried to serve it. It should be obvious to a "professional" that the bottom tier could not support the weight of the top tier as evident by many cracks in the bottom layer. I met Alyssa at a charity event for the Meriden Humane Society last August. Opening a storefront was a dream of hers. She made it come true this spring. Stopped in here with a friend during our walk and it was super cute. We both got iced coffees and they had a nice mix of fixings: soy milk, almond milk, melted sugar, all set up with cute mason jars etc. We got the mini cupcakes, as there were so many choices and they are only $1 each. We also got some mochi iced cream. I got the chocolate coconut and it was really yummy. The only downside is she doesn't yet do vegan baking, which would be great for my husband. She did mention that she does gluten free and dairy free, so maybe vegan is on the horizon. Moist cake, great frosting, not overly sweet like a few places, fillings and or toppings (depending on which type) fresh. A co-worker brought Alyssa's mini cupcakes in to work about a month ago. They were out of this world good. Good to the point where I am relieved we don't live any closer to this cakery. I sent my daughter there last week to pick up a variety of cupcakes for my husband's dinner. To start with, these cupcakes are visually appealing. They look as delicious as they taste. The variety that was available was impressive. We had seven or eight different flavors. The cupcakes were not dry. They were firm, in order to hold up to the tower of frosting on top of them. The cake I ordered for my daughter's 1st birthday last year was absolutely beautiful. Received many compliments. Customer service was very friendly. However, the cake itself did not taste good at all. It was so dry and crumbly. My guests also agreed (which was embarrassing). Grocery store cakes are more moist and flavorful with better quality. I was extremely disappointed since it was not cheap either. I ended up throwing the whole thing out. Horrible. Fair disclosure, I have not tried the cupcakes. But based on the quality of the $50 custom cake I bought a few months ago, I am betting that everything is blah. Our cake for a family member's birthday party was of course greatly anticipated. From the outside, is was decorated as requested. However, it was the driest cake ever. Imagine only having the cake to serve to attendees and it was such a bust. It really puts a damper on the event. Again, maybe the large local residents who are hooked on crap coffee at dunkin Donuts, sweet potato fries at knuckleheads, etc find substandard cupcakes appealing. After all, all that sugar will hide many a flaw. This bakery deserves to be in a town like Wallingford because it would likely already be closed in a town with more discerning consumers. My wife and I used Alyssa's Cakery for our outdoor wedding reception on 9/27/2014. From the start, she listened to everything we wanted. After a few taste testings (all of which were delicious), we ended up with 3 cupcake flavors (pumpkin, chocolate squared, and french vanilla) for our cupcake tower and a different flavor for the little cake on top. When we requested french vanilla, she said she had not made that before, but went ahead and gave us three variations from scratch. Alyssa was with us every step of the way, flexible with any changes we gave her, friendly, and very professional. Cake delivery was early and ready for the reception. Her company provides cupcake towers if needed. We also wanted to get "to-go" boxes for our guests so they could take them home. She found wholesale boxes and provided them when the cake was delivered. The final product was beautiful and delicious. Our guests still talk about their cupcakes. She took into account all of our wedding details and seamlessly created a fantastic dessert that fit our wedding and personalities.
