Great location downtown I always looked at driving by for a couple of years. I knew they had gluten-free cupcakes and I wanted a sweet treat. I conveniently and seamlessly ordered online. They put up a menu for the day with a selected assortment. I ordered: Samoa caramel cracker cupcake - was like eating the GS cookie. Very rich with a surprise inside. My husband liked it. GF/VG strawberry and creme - dense and a little dry but good. I know it's tricky with vegan treats but this went well with tea GF/VG plain Jane - love the rainbow sprinkles and didn't feel it was anything plain but the same ia cute. Also went well with tea. The shop itself was very cute! Some couches and chairs to sit alone or a small group. Great for a meet and greet foe clients or a friend to just sit and talk. Next time I will come back to do that and order some tea or coffee. In the summer time I will try their ice cream! The staff was so nice and helpful to inform me to let the cupcakes sit out for 30 minutes then enjoy and they were so right! There is street metered parking. read more

We were exploring the area and stumbled upon this cupcake place. Nora Cupcake opened in 2011. Their menu changes daily and there are 200+ rotating flavors. They offer cupcakes, cakes, and other unique confections. I got myself a pumpkin pie cupcake, oh my, that was delicious. It was perfectly moist with marshmallow on top and a creamy filling. It's probably one of the best cupcakes I've had. My husband had the funfetti cupcakes and he agreed. They had so many unique and traditional flavors to choose from. The people working there were also super nice. The decor was very cool, I liked all the picture frames on the walls. Overall, a sweet place and I look forward to going back to get some more cupcakes! read more

Cute cupcake shop conveniently located right on Main St in Middletown, CT! When you walk in you are instantly hit with the smells of sugary goodness in the air. There is a glass display right in front where you can view the spread of the day. Not as large of choices as I am accustomed to at another popular CT cupcake shop but some great choices were available. We were greeted with a pleasant young lady who was actually enjoying a couple cupcakes herself behind the counter lol. She was able to answer our questions when we asked about flavors, fillings and pricing. Let's talk quickly about pricing. $6.00 a cupcake....steep! To be honest, it stopped me from wanting to buy more cupcakes. I got the Irish Car Bomb and my daughter got the Rainbow Sprinkle Funfetti. I really enjoyed both the frosting and the chocolate ganache Jamison filling! I found the chocolate cake portion to be a little dry. My daughter really enjoyed hers! She said it was a perfect amount of sprinkles. Now, the moment of truth...do I think the cupcakes choices were worth it? Well, worth the trip, Yes! Worth the price? No. If i'm really craving a cupcake and in the Middletown area, I would go again to try one new flavor! I am a variety gyal and whether you get one or a 4 pack, they are still $6.00 each. read more

I love the vibe of Nora's more than anything else. It's like a cupcake lounge that smells of sugar. I've been coming to Nora's for years and appreciate the variety of flavors and decorations they come up with. My favorite cupcakes include the Irish Car Bomb and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. The cupcakes are big enough for 2 people to share. They have seasonal cupcakes for every holiday imaginable. Another reason to visit is to try their new ice cream place next door. So many treats!! read more

I'm not sure why it took me so long to get here, but I'm glad I finally made it. Easy parking on main Street in Middletown. Al's ice cream shop is right next door and I was told that Nora's sells cupcakes everyday 10a-4p and ice cream during that time. Al's ice cream Shop sells ice cream 4-8p and cupcakes as well. I just want to say I think that's super smart. They post their flavors once they close, for the next day I placed an order online and I picked it up the next morning. They kept it in the refrigerator for me. Walking in was a nice vibe, quiet and clean. They have the flavors of the Day cupcakes in the display case as you walk in. I tend to cut my cupcakes in half and freeze them, so when I want something sweet I can grab a half at a time. I did try a few of the flavors, as I was cutting them to put them away. I really like the buttercream and I read another review that there is possibly shortening being used and I'm hoping that's not the case. I feel like I tasted butter and I thought it was tasty. I do agree they are a bit sweet, the buttercream is a bit sweeter than I like it. But the texture and flavor is amazing! Because the Cake part of it was not too sweet, I think it's a good balance if you take a little bit of each and every bite. The cupcake was between moist and dry, which I felt made a great cupcake. Make sure to check their website before you go in, that way you can make sure that they have a flavor for you. The young woman behind the counter was super nice and friendly. read more

I can't believe it's taken me so long to finally stop by. My friend I stopped by after having lunch nearby. There was plenty of street parking located conveniently on Main street but it could gave been that it because it was not a weekend day. Love the whole vibe of the place. We were greeted by a lovely young lady who helped us with our order. The selection of cupcakes for the displayed as you enter the place. The selection was small but there was a good variety of cupcake to choose from. They also had gluten free options as well. We ended up getting a coffee oreo cupcake and Parisian for ourselves to eat later as well some cupcakes to bring home to share with family. We also decided we wanted to have some ice cream as well. Although Al's was next door we were able to just order our ice cream and cupcakes together. Which was nice. There was quite a bit of flavors to choose from. They have cute little sitting area located in the front. We decided to sit and enjoy our ice cream inside. Had a great experience and will cone again next time in the area read more

Nora Cupcakes in Middletown (The NoRa District) North Of RApallo Avenue is just amazing! I went in on Christmas Eve for some last minute Grinch cupcakes after brunch at Eli Cannon's and it was just perfect. Since opening on NYE in 2011, they have been offering a menu of traditional cupcake flavors, custom cakes, vegan and gluten free options, signature cookies and treats. They really knocked it out of the park with their holiday cupcakes this year! Owner Carrie does such a great job. Below are the amazing holiday cupcakes this year--my favs were The Grinch, Buddy the Elf and Bruce the Spruce. But really---they all were so delicious! There's such a fun surprise when you cut open the Grinch cupcake- not only that it tastes so good! I hope it comes back next year again! Can't wait to go back and check out the rest of their flavors. The shop in Middletown is definitely a fun spot to check out with a cool sitting lounge and couches if you want to eat a cupcake right away. I wouldn't blame you lol Check out these fun flavors-- Buddy the Elf - maple cake, chocolate ganache filling, vanilla frosting, topped with candy, chocolate chips & a gummy worm Snowball - vanilla cake, white chocolate ganache filling, whipped cream frosting, topped with sparkly sugar & snowflakes Lump of Coal - chocolate cake, cookies 'n cream whip filling, chocolate frosting Drunk Santa - bourbon brown sugar cake, bourbon caramel filling, candied pecan frosting Bruce the Spruce - chocolate cake, vanilla frosting, decorated to look like a Christmas tree Candy Cane - red velvet cake, peppermint crunchie whip filling, peppermint swirl frosting, topped with peppermint bark Hot Cocoa - chocolate cake, marshmallow cream filling, whipped cream frosting and mini marshmallows Buzzy the Ginger - vanilla white chocolate chip cake, gingerbread frosting, topped with a gingerbread man Frostie - vanilla cake, vanilla frosting, decorated to look like Frostie the Snowman Peanut Blossom - peanut butter cake, chocolate ganache filling, peanut butter cream cheese frosting Santa Hat - chocolate cake, caramel filling, vanilla frosting decorated to look like Santa's hat The Grinch - green vanilla cake, heart confetti filling, vanilla frosting decorated to look like the Grinch read more

NoRA always has the best cupcakes and so many different flavors! Their online ordering system is so easy to use! I was able to put in an order for a little over than a dozen cupcakes and they were packed so nicely! I loved that we were able to mix up which cupcakes we got! We were able to get cookie dough gluten free which got rave reviews! My favorite was the raspberry lemon! The filling inside is the best part combined with the cake and the icing! We also got Irish carbomb, funfetti, red velvet cheesecake and cookie dough! They always have a variety of flavors whether you want chocolate, vanilla or some sort of combo! read more

Covid-19 era review--how did I not review NoRA sooner? NoRA is where you find glorious cupcakes, many covered with the bouffant equivalent of frosting or embellishments like edible sparkles, and other cakes edible pop art. You are having a cupcake and an experience! The only difference now is you call ahead now for Saturday pickup. Glad I snagged a couple raspberry lemonades before the sold out. Glad I could order off Instagram! I waited less than a minute for my preorder. When not closed by pandemic illness, NoRA is a chic vintage chic cupcake bar, a skully, sugar boutique, and even if you aren't having one of their tipsy cakes like an Irish Car Bomb, you can find a cozy corner of the store and forget life for a while. Even if you're g-free or vegan. It's no coincidence that NoRA feels like the bakery version of Eli Cannon's since was a bakery owner got her start at Eli Cannon's (the barber chairs at Cannons replaced by salon dryer chairs here). Wait till you see their layered cakes... read more

I love a good cupcake and this place has GOOD cupcakes! First of all, the decor in this place is SO cute! The service was quick and friendly. My husband and I ordered the Raspberry Lemonade, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Watermelon and Boston Creme Pie. Some of these cupcake shops have little cupcakes but this was just the right size. They were all delicious but The Watermelon Cupcake was so different. I never had anything like it. It was a Watermelon cake with Watermelon icing and almost tasted like some sort of Watermelon glaze in the middle. It was perhaps little TOO sweet but regardless, so different. I liked it just for that reason! They aren't afraid to do something unique. I would definitely recommend this place for a good cupcake and I would be back if I was in the area. read more

This shop is too cute, I wish I had gone to college nearby so I could have enjoyed it then! The decoration is kind of eclectic meets vintage, with board games available for people to play around the many tables available. The cupcakes themselves are delicious, soft and moist without being overly sweet. The Muddy Waters was an example of chocolate deliciousness, I wish I had another one. They had a great variety of cupcakes available, although looking at their menu now I hope I have the opportunity to try some of the selection not present the day I went. Parking is street and metered, we were able to get spots right in front of the shop. Bring coins! Oh, and if you bring some home, don't put the box by the window. It is an excellent way to get the icing to melt. Find a shady spot. read more

To satisfy my sweet tooth we stopped in for a cupcake after lunch. They have a daily selection that is often changing. I chose the funfetti cupcake. The cupcake is unique in its shape and that it looks very homemade, which I really like. There's ample frosting. The only drawback was there was some filling inside that I didn't really care for. The store is a pop-up from a store in Middletown. Staff are friendly. When I went it was only noon and she told me it was a last of that cupcake left. So quantity may be an issue. I'm a big fan of big sugary cupcakes and The NoRA cupcake company makes big, sugary cupcakes. I used to come here when I lived in Connecticut and when I was in the neighborhood visiting a friend I knew I needed to stop in and pick a couple of cupcakes up. I came here on Sunday and the case was full of different kinds and it was a tad overwhelming. I ended up ordering a chocolate cupcake with chocolate/peanut butter frosting and what I can basically describe as a cupcake covered in green chocolate? All I know is that they both tasted great, and left me craving more cupcakes. Very funky/cool space with a large variety of fun & creative cupcake flavors! Most of their cupcakes are in their display case, but they also have some additional vegan & gluten-free cupcakes that are not displayed (but that you can ask for). They package their cupcakes in little containers which make them easy to transport In addition to their cupcakes they also have a solid coffee/espresso selection As far as the cupcakes themselves go: -Very tasty frosting -TONS of frosting --Makes them a little challenging to eat without a fork. -Cake portion is a little dry. 8.5 read more

Line around 2:00PM on a Sunday. Pros: -Fun flavors -Frostings/fillings are good--not overly sweet Cons: -Super expensive (over $5 for a typical cupcake and over $6 for a vegan or gluten-free cupcake) -Dry cupcakes -Vegan/GF cupcakes aren't in the main case, so if you don't ask you won't know they have them--especially because the vegan/GF options offered didn't match the website! -Also, it's unclear which are vegan and which are gluten-free. I think the staff member said the Cookie Dough cupcake I got was both, but when I looked online it is only listed under Vegan, not Gluten-Free. -They don't ask if you're dining in or taking to go, they just package all cupcakes in plastic. It would be nice if there were reusable plates for people who are eating in, to save on waste. -- $10.53 for 2 typical cupcakes Chipocalypse Listed on website as vanilla chocolate chip cake, chocolate ganache filling, chocolate buttercream frosting, white chocolate ganache, chocolate chip and white chocolate chip topping. The cake was dry, but the chocolate buttercream frosting was really good (not overly sweet like most buttercreams) and the ganache was great as well--however, it was dark chocolate and not white chocolate as listed. Triple Chocolate Chocolate cake, white chocolate ganache filling, chocolate buttercream frosting, white and dark chocolate candy topping. Again, the cake was dry, but the buttercream was good. Cookie Dough (vegan, $6.38) Vanilla chocolate chip cake, cookie dough filling, vanilla frosting, chocolate chips. This cupcake was somehow even more dry (and hard!) compared to the non-vegan cupcakes. It tasted mainly like flour. The frosting was also disappointing--it was definitely too sweet and not as thick. The cookie dough inside was OK, but nothing special. I would definitely avoid the vegan cupcakes but think it's worth trying the typical cupcakes if there is one with an interesting frosting or filling, since that's where NoRA seems to shine. I can't comment on the gluten-free cupcakes, but maybe they are more moist... read more

So I've always heard the rave reviews about NoRa, but had actually never stopped in before until my friend told me about the Harry Potter sorting hat cupcake that was being featured. Well of course we both had to make a journey to Middletown then just for a cupcake, because why wouldn't you? We both were sorted into Slytherin (boo, Gryffindor for life) and the flavors were absolutely delicious. I washed mine down with an iced coffee that was very flavorful as well. Wow. That's all I have to say. I'm not a cupcake connoisseur, but I have tried a few places in my lifetime, and I always look for these three things, in this order: 1) Moisture of the cake 2) Sweetness of the icing 3) Creamyness of the icing I'd like to think most people with a sweet tooth use these same criteria for judging. Luckily, NoRA does well on all ends. Although all looked amazing and original, we went for the most popular: The Irish Car Bomb. The cake was just extremely moist and good on its on, while the icing struck the perfect balance of decadence without being cloyingly sweet, needing a pint of milk to go with it. Along with that, the icing wasn't stiff and hard, as with other places that go for this route. While the price point is a bit high for Middletown at $5, I think if you're looking to reward yourself, this is the place to go. And if you're health conscious...why are you reading a review of a cupcake shop??? Enjoy! P.S. The manager/owner of NoRA used to run Eli Cannon's across the street, so that should explain both the aesthetic and the style of cupcakes they go after. read more

I have been here several times over several years. I was so excited when they first opened. They had and still have so many creative flavors which always look delicious. Recently, I was super excited to get my hands on a Funfetti. However, they are never as delicious as I want them to be. For how much they are, I have never been completely blown away and the last time I was there to pick up four, they all ended up being dry. I was kind of disappointed. It is still a cupcake though and it is sure to put a smile on someone's face if you need too. read more

Stopped off on the way back from Clinton Crossing to see what all the hubbub is about. The inventory was definitely depleted, and half a dozen varieties were gone. We took home an Irish Car Bomb, a Black Forest Cake, and a Carrot Cake. We split them into thirds and made our own tasting plates. The word disappointment comes to mind regarding the car bomb- to me it was just like a chocolate cupcake- no hint of Baileys at all. The Black Forest was very good, with a gooey core of chocolate yumminess. The Carrot cake was pretty good - sweet, raisony, nutty, nice cream cheese frosting. I did feel rather silly paying $12.50 for these 3 small cupcakes. I guess it's OK as a splurge, but I doubt I will ever set foot into this store again. read more

How is it that I've never reviewed NoRA?? Best cupcakes around and super wonderful owner! I always loved Eli's so when Carrie moved across the street to open NoRA, of course I was going to give it a try. I've been MANY times and I've never been disappointed. All of the flavors are great, there is something for everyone. My absolute favorite flavor is the key lime pie. I'm not a chocolate cake kind of girl, but my husband is and we are always both happy with our selections from NoRA. If you like them on Facebook, you'll see the daily selections pop up in your newsfeed. There are original flavors (like Fat Elvis), as well as old standbys, and everything is always fresh and tasty. These cupcakes are not cheap, I know people complain about that. But they are worth it! And if you're dining downtown and willing to spend $10 on a martini at Tuscany Grill or $20 for a foie gras appetizer at Esca...honestly, at that point, what's another $4 for a cupcake? And let's face it, you know if you go for froyo instead you will spend at least $7 once you add all of your toppings! Maybe it's not an every day stop...but they are great for a fix when you've had a bad day, when you have a celebration at home or work, or when you just want a cupcake that looks like it was on the winning display of Cupcake Wars. Hands down the best cupcake in Middletown, and honestly the best I've ever tasted in CT. I've stopped in to get stuff and I've also ordered for a party. Carrie is so helpful about ordering and even though online it says you need to order a minimum number of each flavor to order in advance, I went in and she was able to tell me certain flavors she knew she was going to make that day and I did not need to order minimum quantities. She was also very accommodating with making a vegan cupcake for my grandmother who can't have dairy or soy. I also love that the NoRA cupcake truck sometimes comes to animal adoption events and sells pupcakes! (They often have pupcakes in the store too.) My dog loves those and I love any organization that is animal friendly. Overall, I say yum! Hit up Eli's for a beer and then go across the street for a cupcake. Try something new...you won't be sorry!!! read more

NoRA's social media game is strong for good reason - they are pretty darn great. I think I've stopped in 5x now (always traveling at least 20+min for each trip) and have been so enthralled by their most recent cupcake creation that I have gone from car to cupcake counter back to the car again, not even exploring the rest of the shop! I finally rectified that on September 1. This most recent visit was for the Harry Potter sorting hat cupcake, which was a chocolate cupcake, chocolate frosting, chocolate-dipped cone as the sorting hat, and then a surprise color inside to 'sort' you into a Hogwarts House (#SlytherWin). The cupcake itself was good and another fantastic example of their creativity when it comes to presentation. I ordered a coffee and actually stayed a while and was even more a fan. The interior is a bit punk-artsy vintage and has a chill personality. The space is much larger than it seems from the front and everything was incredibly clean. Definitely a place to visit time and again. read more

These cupcakes are for real. Honestly, the taste and texture are perfect. A star off for the price: a bit excessive for a cupcake. But, they are pretty large and will leave you very satisfied. The chocolate cupcakes are over-the-top delicious. One bite and you'll fall in love while also falling into a sugar coma. Really though...these cupcakes are so sweet they make my teeth hurt. But what is life without a buzz from a delicious dessert? I'm a chocoholic and when you combine Oreos, chocolate cake, chocolate frosting, AND chocolate pudding, my arteries will cringe while my stomach and taste buds bask in the glory. There are so many crazy combos to choose from but you also have simpler options which is a bonus. You really cannot go wrong with cupcakes from NoRA. read more

So disappointing! I've had Nora's Cupcakes over the years and have enjoyed them, finding the flavor combinations and quality of the cupcakes to be terrific. As I hadn't visited since COVID, I decided a visit was in order and that a birthday cupcake for a friend would be a great choice. And of course, I had to get one for myself. ;) I wish I had tried mine before giving the other as a gift, because it was just awful. Dry, tough, and tasteless. If there was half a teaspoon full of filling in the center, I'd be amazed. It was like eating chocolate colored sawdust. I threw it out. $6.65 and I had to throw it out. I guess that explains why there was no one in the place. read more

A mobile version of their brick and motor store where I can get my cupcake addiction full filled without having to drive the Middletown - Yes, please and thank you! They stock a large variety of the same cupcakes sold in their Middletown store and set up "shop" at various locations throughout the central part of the state. From the Billings Forge Farmer's Market to the Coventry Farmer's Market - where ever this mobile truck of sugary goodness sets up people follow. For such a small operating space they stock the truck with a good variety of sweet and savory cupcakes. The cupcakes are pricey (I paid $4 for one recently) BUT I have yet to have a dry or tasteless one which leads me to believe that they are not selling day old (or leftover) cupcakes. So until this happens I will happily continue to consume these delightful desserts. The only panic buying we did during covid-19 was at NoRa Cupcake. I regret nothing. They closed up shop for a bit (hence the panic buying) but I'm so happy to see they're back to cake slingin' on the weekend and by special order. For now I've learned that these perfect little beauties freeze wonderfully.
