I visited for the first time shortly before Christmas to pick up holiday desserts. I did not call or order in advance. They had white, chocolate and red velvet cupcake bases, and the Santa, ornament icing, etc. decorations were well executed. They didn't have a ton of desserts on display. It seems more like a custom order ahead type of place. Service was fine. The decor was also fine. Kind of an old school vibe. It's definitely a take out place. I don't think they had any tables where you would sit and eat a dessert. The cupcakes tasted good. I suspect they would do a nice job with something like a traditional birthday cake design. Very cute and small bakery in Newington ,Ct .I recently wanted to try a new place and this one was on my radar for a while.The customer service was really good, I got acknowledged as soon as I walked in and was helped right away to place an order.I just wanted a small simple cake for my daughter's birthday :vanilla with strawberries.They had it ready on time a couple days later and couldn't leave without trying some of their cupcakes. The Kakery was amazing in providing my daughter with the cake of her dreams for her 5th birthday! I am so amazed that all I had to do is ask if they could make a pinky pie cake. The owner said she wasn't sure who that was but would look it up and try. Her trying resulted in a perfect cake! My mother emailed her about having a cake made for her birthday. And told her she wanted 3 layer cake with cream filling and 1 layer filling of cappuccino. She even sent her an image if the cake that she wanted it to look like. And to have it ready for noon in a week and a half later. And to contact my mom if there are any issues or questions. When I went to pick up her cake at noon it was not ready. I had to wait another half hour. And when i saw the cake I told her it was nothing like the photo. And the women told me that she doesn't do any of the toppings like that. She also claimed she never got a reference cake photo. There were too many layers in the cake. This cake was $50... I honestly could of made the cake myself and make it look better. The stars were purple/silver. But in the photo the coloring is suppose to be cream and the brown from the chocolate. The cappuccino layer was right under the frosting...not even as a cream layer to the cake. We were very disappointed in the way this turned out. The flavoring of the cake was nice but overall satisfaction and customer service wasn't great at all... the lady was also quite rude when explaining everything to me. If she didn't have time to make my mothers cake with care, she should of told us and we would of gone somewhere else. If she didn't understand the way we wanted the cake she could of contacted us, but no...nothing of that sort. Very unprofessional of them. I do not recommend. I ordered cupcakes from here for a friend's baby shower that I was hosting a while back. I walked into the store expecting to see samples of what they offered or be able to walk out a cupcake to sample while I was there placing my order, but this isn't the kind of bakery that has treats to buy right away. it looks as if everything needs to be pre-ordered and you're basically walking right into their kitchen. When I picked up my order, the cupcakes were ready on time. They were decorated with baby booties and tasted delicious - the frosting was plentiful and had just the right amount of sweetness. The decorations on the cupcakes may not be as refined as other shops around the area, but if it tastes good, who cares, right? I would order again, but would probably just call and try to order over the phone rather than driving to their storefront. read more

Customer Service here is terrible! Called to order a cake a week ago and was told to call back 24 hours before we needed it. So when I called over 24 hours before, I was told that they couldn't accept the order since they were booked up until Easter. Rude! We will not be attempting to order again. The Kakery is wonderful as far as their cakes are concerned. However, I do have a problem with them sealing their cake box with an "O.C.D." (Obsessive Cake Disorder) sticker. Not funny! I have OCD and it is not a laughing matter. There are times it makes my life a living hell. Would you make fun of or joke about a person with another kind of illness? I don't think so. I went to the store to order a cake for my sons first birthday because the Kakery is contracted with the birthday venue. I have had the cakes previously and they are not any better than a grocery store but they are more expensive. I do not recommend you walking in the shop as the owner will act like you are bothering her. The customer service is awful. We went in excited to discuss a birthday cake and left feeling upset. I went straight to price chopper and the cake maker there took her time to talk to us and figure out a special cake even though she was in the middle of making a cake. We will take a monetary credit from the birthday venue to forgo using the Kakery. Needless to say I will never go there again and I do not recommend this cake shop. read more

We tried the cupcakes from the Kakery using the coupon that was published in the Hartford Courant. I'm glad we didn't pay for them because I've had better store bought cupcakes than these cupcakes that were actually from a bakery. The bakery itself is very dimly lit and only had a few (MAYBE 3) cupcakes in the display case. When we tried to actually purchase cupcakes in addition to the free ones, we were told that we couldn't buy any unless we had pre-ordered them. So certainly don't walk in there expecting to purchase cupcakes without pre-ordering. The cupcakes themselves were dry and Stop & Shop makes better cupcakes than the Kakery if you're going for a "store-bought" cupcake taste. While I certainly didn't expect the Kakery's cupcakes to stand up to cupcakes I've had from Georgetown Cupcake or various other bakeries, I never thought they would be as disgusting as they actually were! Let's see how long this review lasts seeing it was somehow removed from Yelp before! I think people should be able to see what other peoples' opinions are without just highlighting the positive ones. read more

I wanted to take the time to recommended The Kakery in Newington! They made this graduation cake for me when I needed a cake last minute. I called on Wednesday, and the cake was ready for pickup on Saturday morning. We don't like fondant, so that was something we were searching for. We got yellow cake with fresh strawberries and whipped cream frosting. It was DELICIOUS and The Kakery will be our new go-to bakery.
