I stumbled across Azteca Bakery while getting tacos in a plaza with four Mexican food businesses. It's a very cool plaza (Bakery, Meat Shop, Taqueria and Paleteria) and I highly recommend going. I don't have much experience with Mexican bakeries so I can't say it how it stacks up against other Mexican bakeries or Mexican baking styles. I was impressed with the appearance of the baked goods. Items were big, colorful and well displayed. Donuts. Muffins. Pan Dulce. Cookies. Pastries. Terrific eye candy. I only bought three things, but I didn't connect with any of them. I bought a large sprinkle cookie. It had a mildly sweet flavor and a harder texture. I also bought a chocolate chip muffin. It was pretty good, but a couple steps down from my favorite muffin places. I also bought a croissant shaped slightly sweet bread. It may have been a type of pan dulce, but I'm not sure if it technically was. It was fine. I wouldn't get it again, but I kind of feel that way about pan dulce in general. I'm torn between 3 and 4 Stars. Even though I didn't connect with what I ordered, I'm going with 3.5 Stars and rounding up to 4 Stars because I'm not aware of many similar bakeries, the items look great and I'm not the most qualified person to judge Mexican baked goods. In general, the items seem to have an understated flavor profile as a matter of style. If I was in the plaza, I would try Azteca again. Otherwise, I'll stick with my current fav bakeries.

This perfect little bakery is one of the luckiest finds in Wallingford. It is truly an experience. It is sandwiched between two other amazing food establishments. Truly the trifecta. When you go in, you grab a tray and tongs and start picking out your delicious items. From breads to layers pastries, you can't miss. I personally draw to anything with their guava filling. The breads are done well and their colors will draw you in. After you pick all of your pastries you head to the counter where your choices are not done yet. The case is full of cakes and refrigerated desserts such as tres leche, flan, cheesecake, etc. My husband can confirm that they are worth every dairy filled bite. They also had a freezer with ice cream cakes. Definitely a good spot for a quick cake! This affordable little gem is a must stop.

I absolutely love bakeries, and there's nothing better than finding a top-notch Mexican bakery! I got a bag filled with delicious baked goods, and not only was everything super tasty, it was also very inexpensive. The bakery is not very large in size but there is a great big parking lot. However, it is packed to the brim with tasty treats, and I mean wall to wall. It has a generous selection that would have something for everyone. Very clean, and all the food looked very fresh. I'd recommend coming here hungry because this little plaza seems like a gem.

I really enjoyed my experience at this bakery. I just happened upon it on my quest for tacos one day. When you walk in you are greeted with friendly customer service and shelves of fresh, shiny egg-washed pastries. Classics with a twist on flavors. There was so much to choose from and I enjoyed a strawberry and cheese danish-like pasty and an almost cinnamon roll like pastry minus the frosting. They had ice cream cakes and jello like creations in a fridge up front. I would definitely stop again if in the area.

If you want to try things you really need to go there early, as they often sell out by 11 or 12. The shop itself is adorable and the pastries are gorgeous. One of my all time favorite items is a Kouign-amann and they do these really really well. If you haven't tried one it's like a buttery croissant kinda dough with sugar that caramelized when it's baked. It's a rich decadent item that's a must try if you go here.

I found their offerings interesting and inventive but I wasn't blown away. I like that the pastries are properly baked so they are darker and more crisp than most places. The guava one was good, but very messy as there were square, white chunks of filling mixed with the guava preserves so they were loose and fell out when I bit into it. The Cinnabon style bun was completely cooked through, which I appreciate since the actual Cinnabons tend to be doughy inside. These ones are glazed with a bit of icing instead of cream cheese frosting; I enjoyed it, but I would have liked a little more. The chocolate croissant was generously filled with a good, dark chocolate, just the right amount, just loose enough to coat the inside. I didn't taste any orange in the orange poppy muffin and I'm not a fan of strusel topping on a muffin, as I like muffin tops. All in all not bad, I will give it another try if next time I have a weekend day off.

Picked it up at the time they told me I could and I was in and out in under a minute. The cake was ADORABLE but horribly dry and crumbly. The buttercream frosting was ok but not super buttery. It was cute but no one finished their slice and we ended up throwing almost the whole cake out. Maybe it was an off day but didn't feel like it was worth the $60.00 we paid.

My first experience with Alyssa's Cakery in Wallingford was for my baby shower cake, and it was fantastic. Searching for cake options in the greater Hamden area, Alyssa's not only emerged as one of the most affordable but also the best in terms of customer service. They were incredibly easy to work with and completely captured my vision for a naked cake. The cake was not only beautiful but also delicious, and it was ready right on time. It's hard to ask for more when it comes to preparing for a special event. Alyssa's Cakery's combination of quality, value, and customer service makes it a top choice for anyone in need of a special occasion cake. I will definitely be returning next time I'm in the area!

I've been wanting to try out From Chan for awhile now, ever since I saw a YouTube video featuring…read morethem. We took a ride over this weekend and checked it out. First of all the owner and employees are wicked friendly and appreciative of your business. I definitely got the make-you-feel-like family vibe they offer. It was noticed and appreciated. They have a display of all the days baked goods, lots of different danish, cinnamon rolls, and really interesting pizza-like items. I went basic though and just got a regular coffee and egg and bacon sandwich. The sandwich was good, it was basically a cheesy omelette on a very fresh roll. I enjoyed it. The coffee, wasn't the freshest though and honestly a little burnt and plastic-y tasting. I also tried the blueberry cheese danish which was delicious. What I didn't really enjoy, yet understand to a degree, is the pricing and the itemized fees on the receipt. They are a small business, so I understand the struggles and necessity. However they are charging an "Inflation Service Charge" of 4% on top of the subtotal. My receipt also indicated another "Service Charge" of 4%, presumably because I paid with a credit card. In the end, a coffee, a latte, an egg sandwich, and a danish, 7.35% tax, and a tip cost me over $40. I think to me, it is psychological, while I understand they need to increase what customers pay, I guess I just rather they build it into the listed item price rather than tack it on at the end.
