DiSorbo's Italian Bakery is an Italian Pastry Bakery that opened in Hamden, Connecticut in 1970. It was founded by husband and wife Luigi and Linda DiSorbo. They specialize in classic Italian pastries, cakes and pies. Some of the specialties at this 'pasticceria' include Italian bread, stuffed breads, cannoli, sfogliatelle, bocconotti, cream puffs, éclairs, napolitano cannoli, zeppole, biscotti, anginetti, pignoli, panettone, Easter pies, hot cross buns, rum cake, napolitano cake, and cannoli cake. Today Luigi and Linda continue to run the business alongside their children Steve, Joe and Lena. The business (and their delicious cannoli) were even featured in the hit TV show "The Sopranos". In the Season 6 episode "The Ride", DiSorbo's can be seen at the fictional Feast of St. Elzéar during a cannoli-eating contest. The name of the bakery is clearly visible on the booth's sign as well as on the t-shirts of the contestants. Yesterday my family and I stopped in at DiSorbo's to get some delicious pastries. We had never been there before so we decided to give them a try. Since St. Joseph's Day was a day away, we obviously needed to get some of the traditional St. Joseph's Day pastries: Zeppole. We ordered three Ricotta-filled Zeppole, three Cannoli, and a Chocolate Lemon Pie. Everything we bought was delicious! We are lucky to have some excellent Italian bakeries in the Greater New Haven area, and DiSorbo's is no exception.

Paid $75 for a 6 inch cake with a fondant bear on it. The cake was soggy. We literally couldn't eat it bc it was mush in our mouths. We agreed on a plain cake with just happy birthday, the bear and a small bottle of Hennessy on it. The cake ended up having sprinkles on it. The bear was supposed to have a bow tie, he didn't. But it was still a cute cake, externally. However, as previously stated...too soggy to even eat. Tiny cake, for $75, that we couldn't even eat. The

I chose Disorbio's for my son's 1st birthday primarily due to below reasons 1. My schedule was crazily hectic that I did not have so many options in hand and had to choose a place in Hamden which opens on weekend. 2. It was a theme based party and Disorbio's cakes' pictures here in Yelp and in facebook attracted me much that I did not think about going with another place I am summarizing my overall experience below Positives 1. The cake looked exactly like how I imagined. The owner of the place, Steve is very good at visualizing things and he is an artist who knows how to make the cake look according to our asks. Negatives 1. I did not like the taste of the cake at all. They are in business since so many years and I do not know whether it's just me not liking their flavors. While ordering the cake, I had some samples and I did not like the taste of those either. But I still opted for them as I was already late for finding out another place. 2. The place is so crowded and Steve looks like the only one managing the entire customised cake orders. We ended up waiting so much for placing the order. Even after that, there was so much of confusion and I had to call them several times to get the order right.

I would not recommend this bakery. I ordered a cake and got nothing to what I expected.

One of these days my career aspirations and stress-induced sweet tooth will cause serious health ramifications, but thankfully today isn't that day. While I was actively evading studying and all things dreadful, I searched Yelp for surrounding bakeries, and this one fit the bill... Mostly because of the free cannoli offer. I got the cannoli, a small chocolate pie, and a chocolate cupcake. The total only came to $3.50! So cheap! My mom and Sallie Mae would be so proud. I inhaled the chocolate cupcake and the cannoli; they were both fine. The cannoli was filled to order so the shell was crispy, and the filling was creamy without being too sweet. The cupcake was a standard cupcake--nothing to write home about, but satisfactory overall. I didn't eat the pie yet because I got an impulsive order of General Tso's chicken on my way home and ate that instead. I'm going to be so fat next week.

Best cannolis & pastries ever! Every time I'm in Connecticut I make a point to come here. Grab a cooler, and make the 500 mile trip home

Was supposed to be a yellow cake with nutella filling. Turned out to be a chocolate cake with buttercream filling.

I ordered a yellow cake with nutella filling. It was a waste of money as the cake was made incorrectly. I got a chocolate cake with buttercream filling. When I emailed Steve to make him aware of the mistake he said...sorry I wrote down what you said but I didn't make what you said, oops. Basically that will be my last order with this bakery.

There were packaged items, hot items and cold items as well. I ordered a honey lavender macchiato and it was absolutely delicious. They took my order and then called me when it was ready. It was a little bit loud in there so I didn't head her call my name but it was still hot when I went and checked to see if she called me. That was not her fault. I could have stayed closer. You need a code for the restroom and there is only one single stall. The code is on the bottom of your receipt. I really like that each thing lists ingredients and calories. I love when places do that!

Most chairs were up on tables, but a few tables had chairs down and people sat at chairs in the front. When we went up to the register, my friend got excited because they were playing a song she really liked. The employee told her to "calm down" multiple times in a very rude tone. We bought a piece of cake, it was a bit expensive for a small slice ($7.75) but we noticed a student discount with proof of Student ID. One of my friends had her student ID on her so she showed it, my friends also got excited about the discount and we were told to "calm down" again. Then another employee told us that the discount didn't apply to cake or macarons?? Weird. Seems convenient, since those were the only things left in the case. Anyway, we bought the cake at full price, and my friend went to find forks for the group. She asked one of the employees behind the counter and he very rudely said, "Have you tried looking behind you?" So rude. I asked for a plate to make it easier for us to split the cake slice, and the first employee told me they were closed for eating. No mention of that or signs about it before we purchased. We had to leave with our cake and ended up eating it outside on the street. I'm not happy with this place, it looked so cute at first but honestly not even worth the trouble or the money.

Most of their baked goods were sold out, which totally made sense because it was nearly closing time and the items that remained looked delicious. So we were sure that whatever had been sold before was more of the same. I ordered a hot latte and the kiddo ordered a raspberry tea. We also decided to order toasted sandwiches (grilled vegetables for me and grilled cheese for her) to enjoy in the shop. Enjoy we did! The latte was served with a foam smiley face. The espresso was strong and delicious and tempered nicely by the milk. Her tea was piping hot and fruity. The sandwiches were toasted but not blazing hot, for which we were thankful because we were very hungry. They also weren't greasy - an issue I have with other toasted sandwiches. As a side note - why do sandwich shops slather sandwiches in oil or butter when a simple iron sandwich press and a hot grill will suffice? Anyway, our sandwiches were great! They were filling but didn't leave us feeling lethargic (please refer back to the not greasy comment.) We were so happy to have a good meal and a seat after a long tour around the Quinnipiac campus. Bussing one's table is expected and the staff kept the tables spic and span in between patrons. Speaking of the staff, the young man who took our order and was servicing the dining area was kind and patient as we ordered. We made sure to leave fifteen minutes before closing because we didn't want to be THOSE people, namely the couple in the corner who'd setup their computer shop and looked to have no intention of leaving without a fight. We will definitely return to Bread & Chocolate if we find ourselves in the area again.

This place was extremely disappointing…read more I've had their bread at local restaurants and always thought it was excellent, which is what motivated me to visit in person. Over the past few months, I tried stopping by three separate times, twice they were already closed, and once they had completely sold out of bread. I finally made it there on a Sunday morning, and they had only one loaf left, and not a type I wanted. We decided to order two egg and cheese sandwiches (one with turkey bacon). Both were terrible. The rolls were soft, soggy, wet, and flavorless. Each sandwich had a single egg placed off-center, so half the roll barely had any egg at all. The turkey bacon was so bad we removed it and threw it out. Normally, I would have just moved on and not returned. But what really pushed me to write this review (which I never write) was the carrot cake we purchased. We took it home, refrigerated it, and tried it later that evening. It was, without question, the worst piece of carrot cake I've ever had. The frosting was hard, dry, stale, and completely lacking flavor, no sweetness at all. The cake itself was equally bad: dry, crumbly, and utterly tasteless. There was no hint of carrot, cinnamon, nutmeg, or any spice, just bland, dry crumbs. The cake was completely lacking sugar. After two bites, we threw it in the garbage. I don't say this lightly. I've been cooking and baking for decades, hold a degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management, and spent over 20 years in the industry. I've traveled extensively and eaten outstanding food around the world. For me, someone who genuinely loves desserts, to throw cake away (which is rare) says everything. I understand it was a Sunday and that fresh baking may not be happening that day, but it's simply not acceptable to sell baked goods from prior days that are clearly stale. Even more concerning than the staleness however, was the complete lack of flavor in the product. The sandwiches were disappointing, but that cake was on another level. I won't be returning for sandwiches or desserts, but perhaps the bread.
