They make the best stuffed bread. I normally get it from T& J's IGA, but decided to get it directly from the bakery. Staff were helpful and friendly. They have off street parking. I buy their bread all the time. They are delicious and actually cheaper than if I made it myself.

Apicella's Bakery is an Italian bakery that opened in New Haven, Connecticut in 1920. It was founded by Italian immigrant Geremia Apicella. He grew up in the village of Minori in Italy's Amalfi Coast. He came to New Haven in 1907 and started his first bread bakery in 1914. He changed locations a few times over the years, but in 1920 he learned of a property for sale at 64 Houston Street. This larger location allowed Apicella and his in-laws to live in a house together and have a bakery on site. The oven was in its own one-story brick structure in the backyard. Apicella originally named the new bakery Apicella's Sanitary Bakery, but the name was later shortened to Apicella's Bakery. He would later be joined by his brother Antonio "Tony" Apicella. The Apicella Brothers retired in 1975 and sold the business to Alphonse "Al" Cimino and his wife Rose. Al had previously worked for Apicella's when he was a teenager. In 1984, he moved the bakery to its current location on Grand Avenue. Today Apicella's is one of the largest Italian bread bakeries in Greater New Haven County. Aside from traditional Italian bread loaves, they also bake hard rolls, grinder rolls, rustic round loaves, stuffed breads, biscotti, taralle, and freselles. Apicella's products are also available at various Italian restaurants and local supermarkets. I recently visited the retail store at Apicella's. Although I've been eating their bread for years, this was my first time visiting the bakery itself. The place smelled great! Not only were people stopping in for bread loaves but also morning pastries and coffee. I bought a loaf of their "Famous" restaurant-style Italian bread (with sesame seeds) and a loaf of their round Italian bread. I used the restaurant-style loaf to make myself a delicious muffaletta sandwich for lunch. I later used the round loaf to make some Butternut Squash & Bacon Crostini for dinner one night. If you're looking for excellent Italian bread then you can't go wrong with Apicella's.

Never this crusty from Stop and Shop.

Quick and easy to stop in for some solid bread and treats! Wasn't in love with the danish I had but the bread is always the best.

Looking for a bread loaf to make a muffuletta sandwich. They didn't have it but are making one and holding it for me tomorrow.

There were packaged items, hot items and cold items as well. I ordered a honey lavender macchiato and it was absolutely delicious. They took my order and then called me when it was ready. It was a little bit loud in there so I didn't head her call my name but it was still hot when I went and checked to see if she called me. That was not her fault. I could have stayed closer. You need a code for the restroom and there is only one single stall. The code is on the bottom of your receipt. I really like that each thing lists ingredients and calories. I love when places do that!

Employees mainly keep to themselves but are super friendly and helpful if you have questions or ask for recommendations. There is plenty of seating inside but a lot of customers grab and go. I've been to the location several times at different times of the day. If you're looking for the most varieties available I would recommend coming and staying around 10am. Since they have to bake and individually wrap many of the items, they typically restock around that time daily. The only thing I wouldn't recommend unless you like hot dogs are the "sausage" options. Fancier named but a tad on the disappointed end. The mushroom onion cheese pastry was delicious!! I love that their drinks aren't overly sweet either.

Because online it said cakes of a certain size need a deposit, I called the shop the next morning to make arrangements and confirm the order. The shop answered quickly, confirmed my order, asked me some questions about the design, gave me a quote ($85) and let me know no deposit was needed! I went to pick up my cake Tuesday. I had signed up to grab it at 5 PM but was there around 4 PM. Luckily it was ready, they showed it to me, asked me if I wanted anything added, but it was very cute as is. They packaged it up, and I also bought their blueberry cheesecake and an iced matcha. Blueberry cheesecake was delicious, not too sweet and very flavorful. And the matcha was solid. The shop is cute, it was just quite warm inside reflecting the 90 degree day. And the next day, the cake was a hit, especially the design! It tasted good (though I'm not picky at all), and any other cakes I will need in the future, will definitely be getting them here!

Marjolaine is a nice quaint little sweet spot tucked away in the eclectic State Street neighborhood. Smellivision kicks right in and the amazing hand baked items just dance around within the case. After a great conversation with the owner/baker/artist I picked out a poppyseed pastry, and a Spanish style cheese danish for the trip home. It would have been great to get one of everything but there's always another day. Let's just say I demolished one pastry when I got home and saved the second one for the next day. Totally off the hook amazingly delicious beyond words. New Haven gets most accolades for pizza but the little bakeries shine on. Marjolaine will not disappoint.
