#40 in my NEW ENGLAND & NY COFFEE SHOP SERIES This is an Asian-owned, female-owned bakery and coffee shop with delicious Asian-inspired pastries and fun drinks! We came on a Sunday around 10:30am and they were almost out of some of their pastries. Definitely go there earlier. But that just shows how fresh everything is! Firstly, all of the pastries looked delicious! It was so hard to just pick one so we needed up picking 3. Cheesy hotdog bread, kbbq short rib bread, and a cranberry cream cheese pastry. They were all SOOO GOOD! The bread is so soft and the flavors were delicious. They have lots of fun seasonal drinks, caffeinated and non-caffeinated. They also have boba! I got an ube banana latte and my friend got their seasonal Coquito latte which was recommended. Both were delicious (and very strong). The service was immaculate. I didn't catch the cashier's name but she was younger with brown hair. The sweetest person ever! Definitely made the experience more enjoyable. The owner, Chan also gifted us a piece of delicious oreo cake for fun! It was so yummy and not too sweet. I cannot recommend this place enough! read more

I've been wanting to try out From Chan for awhile now, ever since I saw a YouTube video featuring them. We took a ride over this weekend and checked it out. First of all the owner and employees are wicked friendly and appreciative of your business. I definitely got the make-you-feel-like family vibe they offer. It was noticed and appreciated. They have a display of all the days baked goods, lots of different danish, cinnamon rolls, and really interesting pizza-like items. I went basic though and just got a regular coffee and egg and bacon sandwich. The sandwich was good, it was basically a cheesy omelette on a very fresh roll. I enjoyed it. The coffee, wasn't the freshest though and honestly a little burnt and plastic-y tasting. I also tried the blueberry cheese danish which was delicious. What I didn't really enjoy, yet understand to a degree, is the pricing and the itemized fees on the receipt. They are a small business, so I understand the struggles and necessity. However they are charging an "Inflation Service Charge" of 4% on top of the subtotal. My receipt also indicated another "Service Charge" of 4%, presumably because I paid with a credit card. In the end, a coffee, a latte, an egg sandwich, and a danish, 7.35% tax, and a tip cost me over $40. I think to me, it is psychological, while I understand they need to increase what customers pay, I guess I just rather they build it into the listed item price rather than tack it on at the end. read more

I heard about From Chan Bakeshop from a coworker and he told me I had to try it. So I came by Sunday morning for breakfast. The shop was easy to find and it had a good amount of parking. I must had come at a good time because it was just me and another customer inside. Inside was welcoming and I love the greenery. There was good amount seating for you to set and eat. I order a taro hazelnut latte, a cinnamon bun and a jalapeño special. The latte was delicious and it too sweet. They have different dairy options also. The cinnamon bun was delicious and they will warm it up for you. The jalapeño special was an experience!! It was not too spicy, there was fresh jalapeños, the sauce was creamy, eggs were fluffy, hash brown was crispy and milk bread was soft. It kept me full all day! Recently I went to checkout out From Chans Bakeshop. It's a French Asian bakery! Women owned! I was amazed at the yummy items I saw. Nothing gluten free , but it's ok. I'll buy what I can't eat for others. Since I couldn't eat any of it I wanted to buy so many different things. They offer coffee, teas , boba drinks. To eat.. savory pastries with toppings. Then there was the sweet pastries out of milk bread all topped with something or stuffed. They also had a bin of yesterdays goods where I bought some items from as well(not pictured). Finally tried this bake shop after eyeing it for a long time. It did not disappoint. It's a small place but gives off a very cozy vibe. The staff were so friendly and helped you order whatever you were looking for. They also shared tips on reheating some items that I took home. I ordered the spam sandwich and it was delicious and very filling. Filled with scrambled eggs, crispy hash brown, spam with a gochuchang sauce, yummy! From Chan Bakeshop is such a treat and so glad they have a location near by in Cromwell. Every time I visit, there is always something new to try and flavors you will not find anywhere else. Chan's baked goodies (sweet & savory), breakfast items, lunch items, and drinks like coffee, tea, and lemonade have an Asian twist. For example, you can't find the lemonade here anywhere else. So many flavors to choose from like mango, peach, and bubblegum to name a few, but what makes it unique is the frothy texture. I personally enjoy the milk tea, the red bean bubble milk tea being my favorite. I love that it's not very sugary and has a strong red bean taste. My husband is a fan of the Chicken Caesar Wrap and the Spicy Cozy Dog. I always have to pick up a cozy dog when they are available because it's one of my husband's childhood favorites. I really enjoyed the Corn & Cheese Bun and the Black Bean Coconut Sweet Bun. I love that there are a lot of savory options and the sweet items are not overly sweet. The staff is wonderful and Chan herself has been at the shop herself. Try to visit early to have the best selection as items will sell out. Sometimes there are items discounted, samples, or if you are lucky, they'll throw in a free treat. The prices are a little higher than most bakeries for a pastry, but these are flavors you won't find anywhere else. Please do yourself a favor and visit Chan's, you won't be disappointed. read more

I always pass this spot and decided to stop by today, so glad that I did! Definitely worth turning around. We were unsure what to get, but the staff were friendly. We opted for a cinnamon toast crunch latte, and a blueberry iced coffee. Everything is freshly made homemade including the blueberry sauce and the whipped cream. The bacon egg and cheese was also very good. It was on bread that was a combination of a soft roll and a croissant. They have a variety of pastries and bread as well as some sweet treats and cookies. They have a nice little seating area and a nook in the corner to enjoy your coffee and food. I will definitely come back. read more

I was interest in checking this bakery out after seeing some reviews on Instagram. This was a bit of a drive for me but always love a good foodie adventure! We initially tried going to the Broad Brook location as it is a lot closer to us, but come to find that the location was temporarily closed. Not sure if it was posted anywhere else aside from the door but we were not away it was closed. We turned around and went to the Cromwell location maybe 30 mins after opening. It was already pretty lively when we got there, both with customers and staff behind the counter. We got into line after browsing the array of pastries on display. My fiancé and I ordered the following: coconut custard iced latte, strawberry lemonade, a "double Asian" breakfast sandwich to split, a giant cinnamon roll, guava mascarpone croissant, and a spicy Chicago hot dog bun. Although we came in 30 minutes after opening and everything was freshly presented, I wished we were welcomed with an oven baked smell upon entering. Instead, since it was a bit tight, some customers incredible strong cologne plagued the place. I got my coconut custard latte and it was decent.. the coconut flavor was incredibly subtle, mostly just came from the dollop of custard plopped into my coffee. Nothing too crazy. It wasn't too sweet either which was nice, but kind of bitter tasting. The spicy Chicago pigs in a blanket was incredible. It was on display so I didn't think it was still be warm but that thing came out with some good heat, temperature wise. The spice was not too present, although i only had one bite. This was my fiancé choice, and he was pretty happy with it. Flavors, sauce, and texture were all there. 5/5 would get again! I have the guava mascarpone croissant and to be honest it wasn't out of the world. I thought the guava filling was pretty light and there were lots of bites taken where it was just croissant, no jam. Wasn't my favorite but flavors were still there. No hints of the mascarpone either so that was a bit sad. We split the Double Asian breakfast sandwich which consisted of shaved beef, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, and some delicious savory sauce. I believe this came in their milk bread, which looked dense but had an interesting texture. It came double wrapped in paper which I think could greatly be improved upon because it was completely drenched from the sauce. It was pretty messy to eat since they ran out of napkins and took about 15 mins to restock on that. Flavors were there, and the hash brown had a great crunch to it. We haven't tried the cinnamon roll yet since we were stuffed, so that was a nice treat to bring home. Overall, spent about $56 for 5 items which seems to be the new norm now, unfortunately. I was super impressed with the savory goods and thought they were nicely crafted. The sweet baked goods were good but again, nothing that I haven't tried before. Mostly knocked a star off for price, but overall a great experience. The owner was hard at work so I can appreciate a dedicated leader. read more

Still really good savory bakery items from a very passionate owner Familiar with their broad brook location, decided to make the trek to their new Cromwell location to give them a try. When I came in I was happy to see them quite busy with lots of folks enjoying their items. Chan was very busy, running around and handing out samples of some new lemonade flavors she was experimenting with. It's always good to see a passionate owner with seriously good baked goods get their time to shine. The baked goods are just as good as I recall. Lots of savory options and some sweet options but not a lot. The bulgogi sandwich was on fresh milk bread and wonderfully spicy and tender. The cupcakes were good, and the croissant bread pudding had lots of caramelized sugar bits on top of a nice and moist bread pudding. As always, From Chan's bakery does the right blend of sweet and savory, with unique creations from an owner who has serious skills and is brimming with passion. It's worth the trek to come here, and I look forward to making that trek again read more

I Had to Stop in this new bake shop in Cromwell. I ordered an iced coffee and a bacon egg and cheese. My wife ordered a Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte which she let me try and it was delicious. Prices are a little bit high here latte was 7.60$ and bacon egg and cheese was 12$ but the overall quality of the food was good. Staff here is really friendly and she helped me out when ordering too. WOW! This place is an absolute must visit. We went for the first time today and I know we will return again and again. Everything is scratch made and so fresh. The case of baked goods made it very hard to choose. There is a large variety of milk bread rolls - the sweet potato was so yummy but I'm sure they all are. They have a huge variety of sweet and savory options in the case and they also make breakfast and lunch sandwiches to order. I've been wanting to stop in for a few months and just never had a chance. Fortuitously we made the wrong turn today during errand running and ended up driving by them and made an impromptu stop! Their bakery case was pretty wiped out, but what we saw looked great! I ended up getting a spicy cheese and corn flatbread and my husband had a chocolate croissant. I also got a taro milk tea. The flatbread was amaaaazing! Buttery, crispy, chewy, cheesy. It really hit all the marks for me! My husband enjoyed his croissant too. Slightly non traditional in a good way, and the chocolate was nice and creamy. I really liked my milk tea as well. It wasn't too sweet which I appreciated. I think the boba was crystal boba which I haven't had before, but I enjoyed the different texture and the brown sugar flavor was bomb! Service was very friendly and helpful as soon as we walked in. Curious about what Chan might be serving up, I hobbled in afterwards my physical therapy session at the Cromwell Gaylord location next door. I figured I deserved a little treat. And a treat is what I got! It being close to lunch time, I opted for a savory baked good. If it has a name, I don't know it but you can bet that I'll get it again! The selection of breakfast type pastries proved to be disappointing with only a pair available though there was a decent selection of other baked goods. Oh Wow so excited about this place. The owner used to work at my favorite other treat place in Avon. So excited! Cuz now I only have a 5-minute drive for some delicious baked goods. Can't wait to come back and try out her other offerings, lunch specials and breakfast sandwiches. We went with 3 donuts and a cream cheese iced cinnamon roll. Hubby said it had too much Icing on it. The Custard filled donut was my favorite. The Ube donut filled with Ube cream was good as well the cream was balanced and not overly sweet. I'm so excited to have a new bakery in town! I'm even more excited to see ube items offered! I recently stopped by and grabbed a few things to share with my family - Vanilla custard donut, Oreo custard donut, Ube muffins and an Oreo muffin. I also got an iced oat milk latte - I can't remember what syrup I got but it tasted like brown sugar and was delicious. I tried half of the Oreo custard donut and half of an Ube muffin. I genuinely enjoyed both - the custard was very good and I loved how the donut was fluffy yet had a nice crunch. The Ube muffin was surprisingly not as sweet as I thought it would be - not a bad thing at all - and I liked that you could taste the authentic ube flavor. Run, don't walk to this adorable bake shop for their new Fall coffee flavors. The sesame vanilla is rich and savory, my new favorite. The house made butterscotch latte is remarkable as well. From Chan Bakeshop crafts some of the most unique and seriously good bakery items, crafted beverages and lunch items! Their menu changes everyday and I was in awe seeing how many options there are to choose from! I got the PB&J croissant which was so yummy! I also got their root beer bacon and cheese croissant which sounds a little crazy but I swear it was one of the best I've ever had! Their best menu item that I am still dreaming about is their bread pudding they make each day from leftover pastries from the previous day. Mine had blueberry, chocolate chips, a little lemon and more to it, and I think I had a serious new found love for bread pudding! The hype is definitely real. I had a short window of time and decided to swing by to see what all the buzz was about--and I'm so glad I did. From the moment I walked in, the friendly staff set the tone. I went with the egg breakfast sandwich, and it did not disappoint. I was happy that Cromwell was getting a bakery, and had heard good things about this place. It was the weekend of St Patrick's day and figured my girl and I would pick up some treats to try. Asked the woman behind the counter what she'd recommend, and she pointed out the cinnamon rolls and the banana mini cakes. Took one of each, and they also had a bin by the counter with several items and a raspberry cake looked good, so I grabbed that as well. Well, the mini cakes were dyed green for St Patty's, which looked unappealing; but I figured if they tasted good that it would win me over. Unfortunately that was not the case.... The banana was not ripe and had some of the strings from the peel in it, and the cake itself was pretty dry. Frosting was nice, but it really didn't come together. The cinnamon roll was bland and was just ok. The raspberry cake was super dense and almost like a cinder block consistency. Overall it was a mediocre experience. We will try again at some point, thinking maybe the st Patrick's push may have been a temporary distraction and will give it a second try. read more

Second try...first one to soon after opening so I stopped by today just before closing for the day. Must try to be more organized in my review pursuits. The place is colorful and could become a good coffee/sweets hang-out. I was looking to satisfy my knowledge of milk bread. What could it be??? It's a scrumptious creation made just for me! I bought an Artichoke stuffed Milk Bread which turned out to be a tasteful bit of luncheon paradise. That upset my whole dining schedule for the day. Will definitely skip dinner and just have a moist piece of Blueberry Bread Pudding to end my day. Also scored a Croissant or two from the great crew up front for breakfast tomorrow. Lots of new tastes/flavors/formats to try on future visits. Saw an Ube dessert on the previous visit and haven't had ube since living in the Philippines way back a bit [another story of Pangkat Pangkapayapaan]. We drove past the bakery for months and never stopped. Wasn't quite sure if it was open yet or not. While out getting coffee, my girlfriend saw the open sign and told me to make a U-turn. At first I thought, oh just another baker. Boy was I wrong. I was like a kid in a candy store. We purchased the cheddar and jalapeño butter bread and the blueberry scone which let me tell you, that was absolutely the first scone that was moist exploding with flavor ever. Driving down Berlin Road I looked to the side and saw the Chan shop. It was too late for me to just turn into the parking lot so I had to keep driving so that way I could turn around. I parked my car right next to the door and went in. I was greeted with the upmost politeness. Everything about the inside of the shop is so warm and so welcoming the people who work here especially. I say all this to say I fell in love that day. It was love at first bite and love at first sight. What a nice place!! Just opened a few days ago, and I am impressed. They have a legit espresso machine and make pretty great coffee. I had a pandan latte hot with oat milk, I asked for it lightly sweetened and it was so nice! The food was also amazing. You know those chocolate croissants from Europe? Now you don't have to take a flight across the Atlantic to have some! Delicious and made fresh daily like they should be! I also tried the ham egg and cheese muffins, it was enough for a breakfast meal and it was absolutely delicious. This is my favorite local bakery. Chan comes up with so many cool drinks and baked goods and meal options and the interior has a cozy and uplifting vibe. Theres always parking outside.
