I just found this place in Williamsburg. I was looking for a tailor for some of my vintage and nicer pieces. So far I had a vtg suede vest, another vtg vest, a 60s faux fur jacket ( all with lining ) completely re-fitted and 2 tricky extremely oversized bell bottom designer jeans hemmed. The building and location is beautiful and calm. The staff is extremely friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable and talented. They take the time and care with fitting everything perfectly down to every detail. All of my items have come back amazing and with new life! I highly recommend! read more

I came in to get my bridesmaid dress altered. I figured with the other good reviews and the fact that alts is known for altering weddings dresses that I'd have a really pleasant experience. But from the moment I walked out of the dressing room with the dress on, the tailor didn't seem pleased to help. I asked to have the neck clasps fixed (the string was loose) and they suggested I have "someone help me the day of"... and I just found that pretty dismissive. I also asked if the lines of the dress would be able to look the same and they responded with "obviously they'll look different". Once I gave my final yes to the adjustments, no words were exchanged and the tailor just walked off as I went back into the dressing room to get changed. I just found the experience unpleasant.. quite frankly, pretty rude and really overpriced for what I got. read more

I am so glad Alts is available in the neighborhood! While the prices for basic hems are expensive, they do an excellent job. For special pieces, there is no one better! I brought a dress that needed a lot of work in the bust as well as the hem, which was intricate and not a straight line. They were wonderful. I needed an adjustment which was graciously done. I never write reviews, but this place is terrible and feel the need to share. I took my dress in for a simple hem job, which they charged me an insane amount for, and they suggested further alterations. I trusted them as the experts. When i came back for it, the straps were crooked and the bust line was laying very poorly. They told me they would fix it...came back and they had sewed the bustling to "help it lay flat", it looked like a child had done it. and the bust line was crooked. Following that, I asked them to fix it and they assured me they would. They did not. It looked as if nothing had been done. They absolutely ruined my dress and all they could offer as store credit at any of their locations. why would i want to come back to the same trash place? read more

It I could give this place zero stars I would. What an awful experience. Yaser nearly ruined my wedding dress and charged me a fortune for it! It started out okay at the first pinning. At the second fitting the fit of the bust was really off . They had shortened the straps too much and the sides making weird wrinkles all across the body. i could see the extra fabric had been cut but she said she could fix it so I let her work more on the dress and she made it worse. And she knew ! At my final fitting she didn't let me try on my dress properly and rushed me out. I had to buy a new dress 2 weeks before my wedding. read more

I was desperate Myrna saved my wedding dress. The first tailor I brought my wedding dress ruined my simple silk sheath Alexandra Grecco gown. There was gapping in the arm pit area and the waistline was far too high. I was told by two other seamstresses that the dress could not be fixed. I brought in my wedding dress (Galia Lahav) and rehearsal dinner jumpsuit (Pronovias) to be altered here at Alteration Specialists, and I'm so glad I did! Myrna was absolutely amazing - I came in with what I perceived to be a pretty complicated dress to alter, but with Myrna I felt like I was in very capable hands! She was able to add support to the corset of the dress, color matched a lining perfectly, and generally made the dress much more wearable. Not once was I nervous that something could go wrong, I trusted her expertise completely! Myrna is a genius. I loved my wedding dress in the store, but was between sizes when it came to actually ordering it. She had to size down my dress, which she did perfectly, and understood exactly what I wanted when it came to the other alterations.
