HORRIBLE service. For a place with upscale prices and presentation, I expected a level of service to match. That was not the case here. I was visiting NY with family and saw this cute restaurant and decided to have lunch there. The hostess was really nice and seated us immediately, but then we were completely ignored. No water, no menus, nothing. It's not a big restaurant so it wasn't like we were lost amongst a sea of tables. In the meantime, staff are walking by attending other tables. The wait was getting to be too much so I finally just flagged someone down. I did not get the Server's name but She noticed that we did not have anything, like water or menus, she promptly attended to us. She took our order (Zuppa, Mozzarella in Carrozza, Alto Burger, Tagliatelle, and a side of fries). Shortly after, another server (Miles I think) was supposed to be our Server--came over, and his attitude was noticeably rude. He poured water carelessly, spilling it onto the table, and when I mentioned that we had already ordered, he simply stared at me for a moment without saying anything before walking away. The interaction felt unnecessary and very rude. When the food arrived, we were given two orders of fries. I pointed out that we had only ordered one. The server explained that the Alto Burger already comes with fries. While that may be the case, the menu didn't indicate this, nor was it mentioned when our order was repeated back to us. To be clear, the extra fries weren't the issue--I was perfectly fine paying for them. I'm ordering a $29 burger, $20 for a single piece of Mozzarella, and a $33 pasta dish. I can pay for a side of fries. It wasn't about the money, it was the attitude. She needed to point out that she repeated the order to us, which she did. But she did not say "Alto Burger with the side of fries." She just said Alto Burger. I did not appreciate her confrontational tone and her need to place the mistake us. It just felt unnecessary. As for the food review, the Zuppa was amazing. It looked like a mess, but it was delicious. The Mozzarella in Carrozza was ok, borderline bad. Being that the Mozzarella is fried, I expected it to be hot or at least warm, but it was cold. I don't know if that was how it was supposed to be served, but that's what we got. The Tagliatelle was good with big pieces of pork. The Alto Burger was good as well. Overall, I was surprised by the lack of basic customer service. There was no need for the dismissive or defensive attitude we experienced. For the prices they charge, this level of service is unacceptable. read more

We felt so lucky to have lined up our visit with ramp season. The angel hair pesto with ramp was truly amazing. The perfect balance of flavors. The texture of the pasta was perfect. The stand out to us was the Fennel salad. I would do this every single time I came here, hands down. The ingredients again were so perfectly balanced. The fried Arancini was just "good" to me. Perhaps I like more flavor in a dish and sauce. The salt on the tiramisu was insanely delicious. The cake in it was a tad dense for my taste but all the textures did work together amazingly. We had the fish stew, the clams were rancid, and it wasn't till someone pointed it out that another person in our group confirmed it. 1 of the 4 people in our group actually got sick from the meal that night... The aracini was really good -- the chili oil with it was good. The cacio e pepe was meh - the flavor was good, but it didn't feel creamy, and didn't impress us much. The fennel gratin was good - this one was nice and creamy and tasted better than what we imagined. The tiramisu was a special item (not on the menu) - and we didn't like it. The coffee flavor was missing. The ladyfinger to mascarpone cheese ratio was off. Maybe this is just our personal tiramisu preference. The service was good considering they definitely were packed and were trying to keep up and be quick. Price wise, this place is definitely pricey. While I get the indulgence aspect, the offerings didn't wow me enough to make the price reasonable. All in all, I'd recommend a visit once. read more

Came to this wonderful little place in SoHo for lunch with friends. Everything was delicious and the service was attentive! Recommend that if you come with a group, to share 3-4 appetizers to pair with a small pasta each. Here were our standouts: Arancini: comes with 4 little bites, everybody loved the chili sauce that it came with Crudo Di Tonno: Love bluefin tuna, well-balanced with horseradish and olive oil Piatto Di Antipasti: perfect combo of charcuterie with a huge chunk of parm (coming from someone who normally hates proscuitto-type meats So basic, but the Spaghetti Pomodoro was one of the best I've ever had. Very nice interior that is well decorated. The waiting area is very small so it's very crowded and sort of hectic to wait inside. The staff at the front forgot about me so I had to wait longer. Good food and experience over all, staff were very warm and helpful. We got there a little early and took advantage of the happy hour, got several cocktails and shared the Tuscan Fried Chicken appetizer. We ordered the crostini as well, as the menu listed it as having bluefin tuna on top, but it actually came with anchovies and hadn't been changed on the written menu yet. They say this place serves the most authentic handmade Italian candele, so booked a table and I ordered all of my favorite Italian dishes that I haven't had in over a year. I started with Finocchio (fennel salad), Arancini (crispy breaded risotto balls), and of course, the star of the night Candele Cacio e Pepe (handmade candle pasta). Honestly, the candle pasta alone almost made me want to skip the main entrée because it was that good. I was tempted to order another serving, but I had to stay committed to the full five-course experience. For my main, I ordered veal. The veal was subtle, refined, and slightly sweet and paired perfectly with my glass of rosé. I ended the meal with an affogato to cleanse my palate. I'm allergic to caffeine, but a little espresso over ice cream felt like a risk worth taking. The bar menu features Italian brands, so I had to try the Birra Moretti. It turned out to be light, crisp, and easy to drink. Just a cute and refreshing beer choice. Overall, completely satisfied and fulfilled every craving my palate had been holding onto. It's no longer "of the moment" or particularly trendy, but Altro Paradiso serves beautiful pasta. On this trip, I tried the Linguine al Limone. It was the best pasta I tasted in a week of dining in NYC. Service was pleasant at the bar, and I was made to feel comfortable. We should have taken the negative Yelp reviews seriously. From the moment we walked in, we had a very unpleasant experience with the person at the front desk, Carly, whose attitude was beyond poor . To be fair, the rest of the staff--including our waiter--were kind and attentive. However, the food was extremely disappointing. While I generally enjoy salty dishes, this was excessive to the point of being inedible. Our meals included clams, and when we asked for a separate dish to discard the shells, the request seemed to confuse the staff. This is less a reflection on them and more an indication of inadequate training and oversight from management. Lesson learned. Take bad reviews seriously. read more

I had a great experience at Altro Paradiso. No wait time, we were immediately seated, and the food was amazing. Right off of the spring st station, if you're in SoHo definitely come here for pasta. We started with drinks and the ricotta and bread which were fantastic. The ricotta was a delicious spreadable on the crunchy sesame toast, so good. And the we got the arancini which were also perfectly made. The pastas were definitely the highlight including the cacio e Pepe which had the thicker noodle consistency and the gnocchi style pillows with mushrooms and corn. Really good! It is only served during lunch, so it's been hard for me to track down until a recent day off. Luckily, there was a table open when we had walked in, so we were seated quickly, and our order was taken soon after that. When the burger came out, I was surprised by how small/simple it was given the $30 price tag. I took a bite, and while it was good, it was not worth the price. Fries were okay, but I have had better. Overall the food left a little something to be desired taste wise - especially given the price - but I was glad to check it out. The fennel (finocchio) doesn't look like much but was surprisingly flavorful and the cacio e Pepe had an unusual noodle but was really good as well. This place is def on the pricey side, but it was tasty! I loved basically all of our dishes, even though we were sitting outside in 30° weather, which meant the food got cold faster. There are heating lamps inside and it is somewhat enclosed, but the entrance is only blocked by curtains, so wind can get in. I ended up leaving my coat on and had handwarmers which helped, but def would have been better to sit inside. I do appreciate though that someone came out from the restaurant to add a portable heater to make things more bearable! We ordered two appetizers, two entrees and two desserts for three people. I really liked the bread and the dip/olive oil it came with. That did a good job of quelling our hunger until the appetizers arrived! Based on the reviews, I saw the arancini and fennel salad were recommended, so we ordered those two. The arancini was so delicious--crispy and warm, and the spicy sauce was a great amount of heat. It was also my first time eating shaved fennel and I don't usually like olives, but all the flavors worked well together in the salad! 5/5. For the entrees, we ordered the shrimp linguini and cacio e pepe. The shrimp was cooked perfectly. Kudos to the chef! The cacio e pepe is worth trying just given the notable pasta shape (a long thick noodle), but it's true that it's a p small portion. I did like the shrimp dish more, but I'm still glad I was able to try the cacio e pepe. For dessert, we ordered one of the specials -- a cake with dates, polenta, and something else I can't remember, as well as a flourless chocolate cake. The special was delicious, but the flourless cake was just okay. I liked that both of them came with whipped cream. I know that some reviews complain about the service, but I thought the hostess was friendly, and our server was very nice as well. If anything, we just didn't see our server as frequently but I don't really blame her -- it was a cold night! read more

Immediately looks like a beautifully decorated place, nice Bar, great indoor, after I saw a huge rat running between the outdoor tables I decided to rather stay inside. This time the hosts were friendly for a change, but still had to wait to get my table even though I was just on time, the waiter was friendly until I asked, what was the market price on the steak that they have on the menu (reasonable request, don't you think?) I was kind of surprised with their response stating that it would start probably at $120 or so for 20 ounce steak, but I was more surprised about the attitude like it was not polite to ask for the price when they don't show it. Believe me, it would've been horrible surprise at the end of the check ... I settled for a $30 spaghetti, and $14 arugula salad; to tell you the truth both were amazing and will come back just to get those (I will stay clear of the $120 steak and the $75 fish). read more

As Easter was an especially cool temperature, day, siting outdoors wasn't an option; indoors was air conditioned , all of which decreased our pleasure. The service and food were exceptional; the oysters were especially good.
