I came here to get my wedding dress altered and the lady did an amazing job. I had to buy my dress several sizes too big because of my larger chest. My dress kinda looked like a lace table cloth. However, two fittings later and it looked amazing. It fit perfectly, and the owner was an amazing help with the bustle and suggestions about length. She's been doing this type of work for years back East, and now has brought all her experience to Reno. It took four fittings to get my dress fitting perfect, but the people here were accommodating and incredibly friendly throughout the entire process. Great place to get military uniforms done. Thanks for sewing my rank on my uniform. Also they are good military regulations for the military. It was done correct. For all you military guys they are great with the regs. Also I took some jeans with holes in them to get patch jobs done. They did a good job. Thanks again for your great work. These guys will let you know how it is. They can do a lot of alterations but they will let you know if it is not possible. I took in some leathers in here to get altered and they said they could do it but it was on the pricey size. They suggest just to either sell the item and get one that fits better. The work needed to get what I wanted done was to much. But they have always took care of my uniforms. I love this place because there is no sugar coating here. They will let you know up front how it is going to be. No fluff, just straight to the point and their work is exceptional. The parking is easy to get in and out off. It is in the back of the shop and there is a bit of parking right on Virginia St. also. I would recommend this place to people who have thick sink. I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. I used to tailor my clothes a lot, however after I let myself go and get out of shape, I stopped caring. When I did have my clothes tailored, I remember it being kinda pricey, but I didn't care because the clothes looked nice on me. Now that I'm healthy once again I decided to start tailoring my clothes again, however my budget isn't what it used to be. Naturally I looked on yelp to see the good alteration locations, and ran across Alterations Connection, an saw some bad reviews, so I was a little hesitant. I figured based on my budget though I'll give them a shot since it was alot cheaper than what I used to pay. I walked in and the customers in line were talking with the owner and they were laughing and discussing off topic things (usually indicative of a longer term professional relationship), which is a good sign for customer base. I felt comfortable right away, which is good if they're going to be measuring you y-know, and she was very easy to talk to. She was quick which was good because I was in a hurry. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount for the 2 items I needed altered, and she gave me the option to pay up front or at pick up. She made me feel confident, therefore I decided to pay and tip her up front, Upon pickup which was a very reasonable time frame, I got my clothes and they were just as pleasant as before, and I didn't even try them on till I got home. The job was exquisitely done, and I was very pleased. NOTE TO SELF: you can get good work without breaking budget. Not sure what the bad reviews are all about, but I guess that's nature of the beast. I'm sure if more people that had "good" experiences chose to review, it would probably be lopsided in Alterations Connection's favor. Last minute I needed some help having el wire placed on my Halloween costume. So I searched Yelp and found Dawns alterations shop located on Arroyo and South Virginia Street. I called Dawn and explained my situation and her response was causal and confident that she can fix my costume. I went down to the shop explained what I was looking for and she said it will be done in a couple hours. I returned in a couple hours and picked up my bunny costume that is now bringing with el wire. I am so happy that Dawn was my go to and was able to take care of everything I needed. The price was just right for the amount of time I gave Dawn to make the alterations. I do recommend Dawn for a last minute alteration. I could not be more happy to have decided to go with her to attach my el wire. I give Dawn a 5 star rating! read more

She completely re-did all the horrible work a prior seamstress had done, which was not an easy task given the type of fabric my dress was and the timeline I was now in. She was also courteous and polite, and my dress was ready when it was supposed to be. Decent price, too. When I went here, there were other people in dressing rooms, too, which I think shows that she runs a successful and busy business, and that she is good at what she does. This place was the WORST!! They ruined my husbands suit! We were sent to Alterations Connections from Dillards where we bought the suit. The lady who tailored my husbands suit was not friendly or seemed very enthusiastic about her job. First she didn't even say anything when she came into the room. Then when i was faced away from her (i thought she was another person who needed clothes altered) she said something about how tired she was and it was hot outside. Then my husband came out of the dressing room and she said something and my husband asked if she was the tailor and she said yes. She seemed annoyed that we had to ask. She didn't take in the jacket to the suit at all so it was was to baggy on the sides. Also, THE LEGS WERE NOT THE SAME LENGTH! One leg was longer than the other and the legs were to short! You could see my husbands socks while he was standing. This is totally unacceptable! My husband pants to his suit are ruined!! The day before he had an important presentation we had to get a different suit because the one tailored here was awful!!! I can't believe this place is still in business. I have NEVER met a more rude business owner in my life! The moment my boyfriend and I walked in the door, there was no greeting; they literally looked at us and put their heads down. Then after about 20 seconds she finally asked what I wanted. I only needed two pair of pants hemmed so I proceeded to the changing room. While I was in there her son was at the register yelling how this other customer was cheap and how she was playing them... That customer was still in the shop and in earshot !!! At this point I was appalled but I was half way done and just wanted to get out of there ASAP! ( I was really uncomfortable)Then my boyfriend tried to be polite and ask her how her day was going. I didn't know this until after we left the shop, but apparently she looked at him for a couple seconds, started walking away and responded, " I'm not going to even answer that". My blood was boiling when he finally told me what she had said!! If he told me in the shop I would of ripped my pants back from the Bitch and proceeds into the next place. Short review: Still avoid this place. So I woke up this morning to find that one of my first Yelp reviews had a comment on it by the owner. How delightful! (be sure to read my review below, it's one of my best!) The signs were never an issue, just something to point out. I'm sure some customers find them funny in a sort of 2nd amendment way. While I find it incredible that Dawn remembers a random day in her business that was over 3 years ago without knowing who I was, I will give her the benefit of the doubt that this was not simply a last resort effort after having at least 8 of her friends flagged for unsuccessfully trying to push up the rating of her business, and she actually does remember the incident. That being said, it's still no excuse to be treated rudely. The only blame for treating your customers rudely is on you. I've worked in the restaurant business before and there are times where everything goes wrong and you have 10 tables yelling at you because another server called in hungover and the kitchen just messed up three orders. I would never use that as an excuse to be rude to a customer. Reading the other reviews on the page, it sounds like this lack of responsibility/ people skills is a common theme. First time that I have ever posted a review online. My experience was awful. I dropped off three items in mid April. Went back two times to be told that they were not completed (after they looked for several minutes). They were winter items so it wasn't the end of the world. Went back a third time, early October, and...lucky me they were done. I thought that they may discount the fee to account for the inconvenience, or, at a minimum apologize. Nope. I had a pair of jeans hemmed here. The pants came out fine, but the place is SUPER offensive with tons of little signs on the walls that pretty much make you think you're bothering them by being in their business. The woman, whom I can only assume was the owner due to her horrible attitude, was rude and very impatient. Again, the pants came out fine, but after the way I was treated I would definitely go out and find a different place for further alterations. The woman helping me made me stand in the front room waiting for about 15 minutes before helping me. A couple of weeks ago, which was 24 hours before I was leaving for my destination wedding I decided to put on my wedding dress and practice my first dance. To my utter horror the bustle on my dress, that had been done professionally, was less than adequate for the weight of the dress. The ties were ripping out and I had not even worn the dress yet. The sides were dragging on the floor and there was no way I could dance on my wedding day in this dress. At 8am on Saturday morning I called Alterations Connection after finding them on a Google search and Dawn, the owner answered (before business hours). I explained I was leaving for Mexico for my destination wedding at 4am Sunday and that I needed the bustle redone that day. She told me to be there at 9am. I arrive promptly at 9am and Dawn was ready to get to work. She put me at ease right away and I knew she would do whatever it would take to make my dress right. She promised me my dress would be done that day and that I would be able to have my first dance. She spent about 1 hour with me checking and measuring and marking the dress. She called me later that afternoon (after business hours) for me to come back to try on the dress. I put on the dress and then she fine tuned all the layers to make sure it was perfect. Dawn was a delight to work with and she saved my special day! She did an excellent job and went above and beyond to fix the work that was done incorrectly in the first place. Dawn did a great job on altering my bridesmaid dress. I'm only 5'4 so most dresses dwarf me. I had ordered a dress online which was advertised as petite. Yeah right! Just had some 5.11 rip-stop pants hemmed up at this place. Haven't even tried them on and I'm 100% certain they were done exactly how I asked them to be done. The tailor and the man behind the counter were both very courteous and polite in person. The lady on the phone was very blunt and to the point but she knows her craft. At first I thought she was rude but after visiting their shop my opinions immediately changed. She seemed very busy, but I will be going here from now on with my business for any tailoring needs. (Also, as a side note, I thought the wood furniture in their shop was awesome! It looked to be very solid and sturdy. Next time I go in i'll be looking to buy one of their pieces!) read more

I had come here last year to have alterations done to my bridesmaid dress when David's bridal had ordered me the wrong size. Dawn was very nice and efficient. She has a quirky personality that I really like and I love the fun store atmosphere. She was able to hem the dress and take in the sides and it was a perfect fit. There was a lot of ruching on the waist and beading and everything looked great. I have taken my wedding dress there for a hem and bustle and she was very accommodating in showing me different styles and bustle techniques. I would recommend, but as no prices are listed I would ask before hand if your budgeting. I used to be an event planner and part of that involved helping people get their special occasion clothes altered -- usually at the last minute! I discovered Dawn while trying to help a bride who had tried to low-ball her bridesmaids dresses. I'll agree with some of the other reviewers about the signs that decorate the shop. Some of them are borderline offensive but I take a "live and let live" attitude about opinions and politics and besides, many of them are pretty funny. Also, I'm there for alterations, not for discussions of philosophy and I admire those rare people who are willing to stand up and say "This is what I believe in." I've had several pairs of slacks altered by Dawn as well as seeing the work she does on wedding gowns. The work is EXCELLENT! She really knows what she's doing and she's willing to tell you if the change you're asking for will work or not. I've seen some places that promise you anything in order to get the business and then make excuses for why it didn't come out well and this is definitely NOT one of those. I went to pick my daughters prom dress up (75.00 to hem) and I could have sworn I paid when I dropped the dress off. I still think I might have BUT when I told the owner Dawn, that thought I had paid when I dropped the dress off, her bouncer son came out and threw a stack of receipts in my face yelling at me that I was trying to rip them off. He scared both my daughter & I. Over 75.00, really???? I was shocked. I offered to deal with Dawn & pay again and just simply call her for a refund if I found a duplicate did exist but she wouldn't let me pay and take my daughters dress so I had to call the police to come help me get my dress. Dawn also embarrassed me & called me names in front of a store full of people. Will be filing a BBB complaint & calling various agencies that protect consumers from this type of abuse, to report them. This isn't right. Don't give them your business!!! read more

PLEASE READ THIS AND ALL OTHER BAD REVIEWS! I swear all the good ones have to be family members, family friends, or got a discount for posting a good review. This place is just horrible. A friend of mine had a bridesmaid dress that needed to be altered (which she will be posting pictures of in her own bad review) and I went to pick it up for her. The staff (a man and a woman) were so rude. I had never been treated that way walking into any store. I was not greeted and was even given a judgmental look. My friend tried it on a few days later and NOTHING WAS ALTERED! Her neckline was exactly the same and the hem was taken up maybe two inches but she still couldn't walk in it and had to pin it all over the place on the day of the wedding. When I called to advocate for my friend who they were rude to and ripped off ($90 for them to do what I could do with no sewing ability), the store manager yelled at me over the phone to "TAKE MY COMPLAINT AND SHOVE IT"! I really wish I was kidding and he proceeded to yell at me and then hung up. She tried to give a small business a chance and they were so beyond disappointing. Please do not give your business to them, they do not deserve it and there are many other better places in Reno, I am sure of it. read more

I can't believe that a tailor could screw up so bad on hemming a dress!!! Upon going in to get my prom dress altered by her, she pinned it at 1 inch off the ground with my heels on --I watched her measure it with her ruler and everything! Then I come back and the dress is so short that without my heels on it still shows my feet! Not to mention when I put my heels on, the dress doesn't even come near the ground! So I went home and measured it and now it is 3 inches from the ground! I went back and told her it was too short and she said there's not much you can do after you cut it. BUT IT WAS HER FAULT FOR CUTTING IT TOO SHORT!!! So she tried steaming it to make it longer (which worked). But then after she made this mistake, she told me to go home and steam it myself. So I am spending hours a day trying to pull the material and steam it after she screwed up!! And she was talking about how I would only be wearing my heels for a short amount of time, so even though I gave her specific instructions, she took it upon HERSELF to cut it 2 additional inches shorter because I'd only be wearing my heels for a short amount of time!!! She never asked me if that's what I wanted, she just went ahead and did it!! I paid a steep price for this alteration and now I'm sitting at home with an iron steaming my dress to make it longer after she screwed up my dress!! read more
