I decided to try this business based on the positive Yelp reviews. While it's important to me to…read moresupport small businesses, I was also tired of the long wait times at the more well-known alteration shops. As others had mentioned, Teresa was easy to reach by text and very friendly. Her pricing was also reasonable ($15 for shortening pants, for reference). The turnaround time for taking in a pair of pants and taking in the sleeves of a dress was only 1 week. The location on Bible Way was a bit hard to find at first. Note that she is now in suite 40, not 22. Also, don't expect a fancy store front or anything of that sort. It's a small and barebones operation, but there's ample room for getting fitted and trying on your garments after the alterations. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was a minor mix up when I went to pick up my items. I showed up at the time she noted on my receipt but she was not there. However, we texted to arrange a different pick up time and that went smoothly. I'd suggest texting to confirm before heading down for pick up since she's not always at the shop. Overall, though, the quality is good for the price, and I'd happily use Salas Alterations again in the future.

If you are in a pinch, she is a life-saver!! David's Bridal wanted $200 and 8-12 weeks to make my dress a corset back. Colleen charges, depending on the dress and the beading, about $60 and takes a week, depending on how busy she is, to do this specific job - to give you an idea of her prices. Very reasonable. Since she works out of her house and has no overhead costs, she can have cheaper prices. In my case, she talked me out of it by showing me how it would bunch in certain areas if it were laced up and showed me a dress she had just altered in the same way that had thick fabric and looked great with that kind of alteration... And I see that she is right and it would have been a mistake for David's to make such an alteration, not that their seamstress mentioned it. Instead, she sewed on some straps that I can chose to use or tuck in ($10) and took in some fabric at the seems on both sides ($40). Very affordable. She works out of a wing of her house that is dedicated to sewing... Very cute. She even had a platform built in with mirrors just like in bridal shops. She can modify all kinds of formal dresses and clothes, but she said she'll even hem your jeans if needed. Oh, and she'll steam your dress for you so that it isn't wrinkly. I really liked her and trusted her to work on my dress from the start. She is a semi-retired lady who is super down-to-earth. She can even take a dress and help it meet Mormon/LDS wedding standards by helping cover up shoulders.... which I can imagine is tough to ask for at David's Bridal.
