I thought maybe it was just me but my girlfriend went in to pick up my order for me and felt equally negative feelings from likely the same individual. Since writing my 2017 review, I have used Alterations Connections four times to tailor clothing. They do a great job, in a reasonable amount of time (approximately a week), for a fair price. I can't ask for much more! My body is banging, but I sometimes need to tailor straight-off-the-rack business professional clothes to get them to fit perfectly. For example, Alterations Connection took two inches off a Chanel-style tweed skirt suit for me to make it a little sexier. I used them to take in a semi-formal dress and a shift dress at the waist, which they did excellently ($45, $40). For $20, they shortened my beach-casual wedding dress from floor-length to thigh-length so I could repurpose it for clubwear. (Jk, I'm too old for clubbing, but I feel great wearing it nevertheless for date night!) Because I've only recently felt comfortable spending my green on tailoring, I don't know if these prices are competitive. Even if they aren't, I see no reason to switch tailors. Alterations Connection has been doing me right, and I don't want to chance it just to save a few dollars. Even though the store is located in midtown on Virginia St, it is surprisingly easy to find parking behind the store on Holcomb or street parking on Virginia or Arroyo. An easy way to remember its location is that it's right next to Beefy's and one block south of Vassar. The two folks who work there (a mother and son?) are no-nonsense but friendly. They have the cutest little Pomeranian dog who sometimes walks around the store. I often see military members bringing in their combat and dress uniforms to get altered or to have patches sewn on. The store looks a little old inside, but the quality of the work is fantastic. Highly recommend! read more

Adequate alterations. Terrible service. Though it's a very small space, they didn't acknowledge me in any way; they were having a good old time with a customer already there. That's fine; I thought it would be my turn for congeniality once customer 1 left. No. Eventually, though they'd given no indication they knew I was there at all, the man came over and gave brusque requests for info on what I needed. While I was still giving the description of needed repairs, he said to the woman - as though I wasn't standing there in mid sentence - "finish this, I need to (something mumbled)" I thought - wow, but ok maybe she'll be pleasant. She was just bland and blank. She never looked at me once, didn't go over the (high) pricing with me, just wrote the repairs down and handed me a receipt. there was a lady with blonde hair who was working when me and my brother went in to get his pants fixed, not only was she giving us dirty looks sense we walked in but while she had my brother try on the pants she was judging his body and laughing to herself, she treated other customers there being polite (those other people were white) but for us she was being rude and saying smarky remarks, she said it would cost 70 or more to fix the pants which my brother only wanted the waist part of the pants to be made smaller and she said it would take a week, we ended up going to another seamstress who fixed the pants the same day for 15 dollars and she did a good job!! so do NOT go here!! read more

It's been a number of years since I last used their services. I had lost weight and I had 5 suits altered both slacks and jacket. The work was fantastic. The fit couldn't have been better. I still wear these suits. As I recall they are closed Sunday & Monday but don't quote me their hour could have changed. Pricing was competitive as I did visit other shops. The staff was very friendly and the woman who measured me was professional. I would definitely recommend this store for all your alterations. read more

What an experience... so this place doesn't take appointments for General alterations, just bridal. So if you come in on a Saturday, it's probably going to be a zoo! There wasn't a ton of direction and people were obviously frustrated. The woman doing the alterations is incredibly kind and is obviously a problem solver! They basically guarantee your alterations within a week which seemed to be a reasonable turnaround time compared to other places I've been that took over a month! While I was in there I saw a ton of bridesmaid dresses, jeans, jackets, it really seems like they do it all! Parking can be a little tricky here especially with the construction going on right now. But as the guy said, this is a destination business so people still come and there aren't a ton of people that do the alterations these people do on a consistent basis. So the bad here... they don't have you try on your clothing when you pick it up. I was happy with the hem on my dress but some of the other alterations... not so much. It's a little upsetting to pay $80 for alterations and it still doesn't fit. The second is while the guy at the front is really honest with you, it comes off quite abrasive and at times rude so you're not coming here for an experience, you're here to get a job done. read more

I went to Alterations Connection a month ago and it was a horrible experience. I was beyond stressed for my bridesmaid dress to be completely on time but she assured me she could have the dress altered in plenty of time. Dropped off a bridesmaid dress on 11/6 and was told it would be done the following Wednesday. I went in on 11/13 only to be told it still wasn't ready because someone was sick so I needed to come back the next day. I wasted half of my lunch on this pointless errand. Went back the next day, everything fit but she said she wanted to fix the zipper so it was easier and to move and the ribbon so it would look better. I should have said no but she insisted so I agreed. I went Friday and was told it wasn't completed. They asked if I could wait a few minutes and I had no other choice since the wedding was on Saturday so I waited for 15 minutes. Another lunch wasted on waiting on them. I put the dress on and it fit well so I thanked them and waited another 10 minutes in line. Well, when I was at the wedding the dress ripped and the ribbon came off. I took the ribbon picture at the wedding & my fiancé said the back was ripping but there wasn't anything I could do until we left the wedding. So it got me there but NOT worth $50 or driving back and forth for 3 days for such an awful job. Go somewhere else. read more

I have been bringing my items to Alterations Connection for years and have very satisfied with their service. They have repaired zippers in my ski garments and the workmanship is great. I had an old backpack that the fellow there was able resew the shoulder straps and replace the buckles, so it was usable again. Some people expect the employees to fawn over them like the show "Say Yes to the Dress". It's a small shop, they do great work at a reasonable price in a good turnaround time, most shops won't even accept some custom requests. They do and they have made some excellent outfits for an event. I recommend this shop to my friends. read more

If you need anything repaired you drop off and usually pick up the following Tuesday. My wedding dress was ruined by the VERY rude woman, Dawn, about a year ago. She tailored the bottom of the dress and took off 4 inches before I had a chance to come in wearing my wedding shoes. I told her to WAIT until I came in wearing the shoes. It only needed an inch off. It was tailored to be way to big around my mid section and just looked horrible in pictures. My husband went in a few months later because he forgot they were the ones that ruined my dress. The male who answers the phone screamed at him when he simply asked what a turn around time would be! These are just plain and simply BAD people. I over heard many racial slurs being used when I was in the building as well. Go to someone who will take time and isn't a rude, nasty person that will call people of other races terrible names. read more

I have had dress pants hemmed here and a ball gown hemmed here. Being short, and even in heels not an average height, it just comes with the cost of living. Many places in my hometown and here in Reno are pretty pricey. However, Alteration Connection does the hems for such a great price! Recently, I brought my ball gown that I was wearing to a black tie gala. I asked her to shorten it just enough for my glittery shoes to poke through. I came in about a week before the event and she finished it on time, and did a wonderful job! I love that there are dressing rooms for you to try the on the clothes you're having altered. Typically my past experiences include having to use their restroom, and hope that it has a clean floor. Here there are two dressing rooms and a staging area for quality service. Putting in a ball gown is stressful enough, having the space to do it without a toilet or sink in your way is WONDERFUL! I cannot say enough good things about Dawn and Alterations Connections. I brought my son's fiance to Dawn to get her wedding dress altered. The dress belonged to the bride's mother, who passed away last year, and it meant the world to my son's bride that she wear her late mother's wedding dress for their special day. Dawn had it for about a month and when we went to pick it up the dress fit the bride perfectly and the alteration was under $200!! Here is the kicker to the story though, and why I would give Alterations Connections 6 stars if I could, we took the dress to the cleaner and it was damaged during cleaning. With 1 week until the wedding we brought the damaged dress back to Dawn and she worked hard and did everything she could to fix the rips and lost beadwork for the bride to wear the dress for the wedding. Amazing service! My wedding dress alterations came out AMAZING! I originally needed the dress to be taken up at the bottom, but Dawn added some beautiful touches to my dress including fixing my shoulder caps to fit better and also adding a bustle to my dress, which was wonderful for my reception. This is a small business with usually 2 people working. The seamstress is a professional at her craft. She does not say much but she will address the work to be done and requests you may have. It is basically one person doing the measuring, pinning here and there. Dawn, the lady that is the more than a seamstress does all of her own measurings, making sure you approve of the work to be done. the results are nothing less than high-quality professional work. I bought a suit at Dillard's for my daughter's wedding and the pants needed to be hemmed, the coat sleeves shortened a bit and the buttons added for suspenders. It was 10 days before the wedding. Within a week, I was back at Alterations Connection trying on my suit. Great work at a very reasonable price. BTW Dilliards would have altered my suit but could not get it back to me in time. The salesperson at Dilliard's suggested I have the work done at Alterations Connections, I took his advice and it paid off. I get my suit in time, the work completed is great, and at a reasonable price. My first time there, but I can assure you it is not my last. The wedding was a blast, we all had a good time. Just visited Alterations Connections with my mother and sister and was greeted by a man in camo who told us to start putting on our dresses that we wanted altered. We had called in prior and they said it was a week turn around which sounded great. After we got our dresses on behind the make shift shower curtain and came out, they said "we are going out of town so can do anything." So we changed and left without any apology or even "bye." I work in retail and completely understand how things work and I am NOT one to complain, but I just called to ask a few questions about services. I guess I asked too many questions and was yelled at and then hung up on. I called back and was told to (and this is a DIRECT quote) "get a life and stop calling". I wish I could give them NEGATIVE stars. I brought in a bridesmaid dress to have the hem brought up as well as the neckline. I wore my shapewear undergarments and my heels during the pinning so it would be accurate. I was told the turn around was going to be a week but as I was going out of town, I told them I would pick it up in 2 weeks, giving them DOUBLE the amount of time. I got back into town and was working during their business hours so I had my roommate pick it up and pay the $90. I tried it on before the wedding and the dress appeared completely UNALTERED (I've attached pictures). I had to use safety pins along the line of my entire bra to cover myself during the wedding. Since I had to alter it myself for the wedding I wanted my money back because why would I pay for alterations if I still have to fix the entire neck line by myself?? I had been treated so rudely over the phone and in person that I contemplated not even going back but I was upset about the charge. I was still handled rudely in store with the owner telling me she had altered it. I showed her the pictures and explained that I had to pin it so even if she had altered it, it wasn't what we had agreed upon because my bra was still showing. She got up, gave me $25 for the neckline, saying that's what they normally charge, and walked away. I would highlyhighlyHIGHLY recommend going somewhere else. This is one of the few times I regret supporting a small local business. All the negative reviews include something about the owner's/managers attitude so clearly they DON'T CARE about how they treat the people who support their business or else they would check their attitudes at the door. Suzanne at Sierra BMW recommended Alterations Connections to repair my BMW motorcycle clothing zippers and for any alteration that I needed. It is a classic tailor shop in old Reno and they are excellent. Quality is worth the money. They'll offer two zipper options and I ask what they suggest, and I go with what they suggest. More complex, is the addition of a SPOT GPS enclosures to my jackets. I live two hundred miles away in a rural town where one can't get a boot heel fixed or a zipper properly replaced. I can ship my items and they'll ship it back. Very happy to have found them. read more

I came here to get my wedding dress altered and the lady did an amazing job. I had to buy my dress several sizes too big because of my larger chest. My dress kinda looked like a lace table cloth. However, two fittings later and it looked amazing. It fit perfectly, and the owner was an amazing help with the bustle and suggestions about length. She's been doing this type of work for years back East, and now has brought all her experience to Reno. It took four fittings to get my dress fitting perfect, but the people here were accommodating and incredibly friendly throughout the entire process. Great place to get military uniforms done. Thanks for sewing my rank on my uniform. Also they are good military regulations for the military. It was done correct. For all you military guys they are great with the regs. Also I took some jeans with holes in them to get patch jobs done. They did a good job. Thanks again for your great work. These guys will let you know how it is. They can do a lot of alterations but they will let you know if it is not possible. I took in some leathers in here to get altered and they said they could do it but it was on the pricey size. They suggest just to either sell the item and get one that fits better. The work needed to get what I wanted done was to much. But they have always took care of my uniforms. I love this place because there is no sugar coating here. They will let you know up front how it is going to be. No fluff, just straight to the point and their work is exceptional. The parking is easy to get in and out off. It is in the back of the shop and there is a bit of parking right on Virginia St. also. I would recommend this place to people who have thick sink.
