This is not a professional tailor.. if you need real quality alterations I suggest you steer far clear of these people.. they will butcher a suit and take no responsibility for theyre shoddy work.. I dont want anyone going through the samething I did here, this woman is not a tailor she may have the skill to tack prom dresses together for people who dont have a discerning eye bit she has no business touching formal wear of anykind.. they butchered a 5000 dollar italian suit and basically told me to kick rocks.. no refund no apology for wrecking my garment.. these people are not legitimate business people , they are crooks ...buyer beware read more

I knew I wanted to go there when I could. My roommate needed some work done on a couple of items of clothing. The job was done very well and good pricing! I've never had anything tailored before so this was my first ever experience and this place has very high reviews. Dropping off my garment (1pair of jeans) was uneventful and I only needed my waistband brought in a bit. It was only $25 also which I thought was a good deal. I dropped it off on July 9 and was quoted estimated completion date July 30-31. I had an event I was traveling to on August 2 that I needed this garment for which was my only stipulation to which they said no problem and I'd receive a call or text when it was ready. On August 1 I had no call or text received yet. I called to ask about the status of my alteration in which they said it'd be ready the following day late afternoon (day of the event). After some back and forth about needing the garment same day, they said they could do it today and they'd contact me later. 2 hours later, I get a text saying it's ready for pickup. I go to try in my garment and the back middle seam is super puckered and wonky. I ask about it and the seamstress, to her credit, placed some more pins to fix it and said they will call again later today. I get a call about an hour later saying it's ready (at this point it's 4:30 and they close at 6). I go to try it on and the puckering is better but still wonky and just looks odd but not quite as noticeable as before. I'm over it at this point so I just take my garment and leave. I wore it to the event the next day after washing and drying it and it did its job but after a few hours it was out of shape and just didn't fit very well. Unfortunately I'd either have to take it somewhere else to salvage it or just get rid of it. I understand the waistband can be difficult to tailor and maybe this place specializes more in formal wear however, 3 weeks of waiting for 1 pair of jeans seems excessive. And it makes you wonder if the 2 hours it took to complete was a rushed job since I'd already paid. As nice as the people running this place are, I won't be returning. read more

VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL. TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE. I got my wedding dress altered by this company -- got inches taken off the bottom, added a 3 point bustle, tightened the arm sleeves, and added fabric to the bust area to reduce irritation. They seemed extremely nice when I first got fitted and then when I came back to pick it up and pay. Extremely nice, patient, and accommodating. And today, I left in full tears. At my wedding, I got blistering irritation from the bust area despite paying for that to be fixed so that it rubs at least a little bit less. My bustle fell within 5 minutes of pinning it up and kept falling ALL NIGHT so I had to carry my train over one arm for 5 hours (aka the entire reception). I had plans of showing them this so we could discuss a partial refund after I had paid so much beforehand for said services. I paid nearly $600 for it and was promised the best quality in town. I was quoted around town for half of that price, but decided to take a gamble on this quality promise of theirs. Handing that money over was painful, considering how expensive weddings already are. I mean who doesn't want to have their wedding dress done by the "best" ??? But I went with them because of their confidence in their work and supposed customer satisfaction. Today, with plans to discuss the issues I experienced, I called ahead and gave appropriate notice so they'd be expecting me and went about it very kindly, professionally, and overall complimentary of the work they do. I set up my dress and showed how easy the 3-points came off -- they just said "No. That can't happen," WHILE I WAS DEMONSTRATING IT. Upon discussion with them, I was bullied, gaslit, and accused of "not doing it right", "having careless people fasten the bustle for me", "dancing too rowdy", and straight up lying to get my refund. Why would I do that?? Not to mention, when they were inspecting the bustle issue, the lady was tugging and pulling at the dress with so much attitude that I had to quietly ask her to stop. They both belittled me, mumbled stuff under their breath, raised their voices and made it a whole different discussion than my intent was. The husband at one point even had to get his wife to calm down because of how she was treating me. I explained how my wedding night wasn't envisioned holding my dress the entire night and I couldn't be hands free and enjoy myself and my husband -- don't get me wrong, of course things go wrong at weddings. But now I'm here, asking for some empathy and common ground. In turn, I was told that I should've gotten a 7-8 point bustle instead; as if I'm the seamstress?! I'm supposed to be the professional, apparently. I was told by them, "We went to a wedding last weekend, those things can get rowdy." Last I checked, a paying customer should get at LEAST a couple hours of wear rather than a couple minutes. Today, I realized these business owners are severely money-hungry and overpriced with their work, and don't have the empathy to make things right with their customers when things don't go smoothly. I'm sure 99% of their work is great, but part of owning a business is accounting for a margin of error. Again, I went in to kindly discuss things, and I was met with bully behavior. I was meekly offered fixing of the bustle, but declined because when will I ever need to bustle up my wedding dress again? This isn't a pair of jeans or my favorite sundress that I wear on weekends. No thanks -- I am done with your service and EVERYONE else should be too. Today took a turn I did not expect at all. Don't be fooled, oh, paying customers. read more

I had a collection of pants and dresses that needed a variety of hemming and adjustments made to them so I decided to bring them to 5 Star Tailoring. The seamstress was friendly and although there was a bit of language barrier, she definitely knew her stuff and was able to pin and mark the areas of my clothes that needed altering. She went over the prices of each item beforehand and didn't charge me for one item because it required very little stitching. I told her that I was in no rush and 2 weeks later I received a text message notifying me that my items were ready for pick up. I tried on a few of the pieces just to make sure they fit- I was very pleased with the outcome. The shop is small and simply decorated. The corner windows let in a lot of natural light which offers a good view as you twirl yourself around in front of the mirrors. read more

I took in several suit jackets, suit pants, and a work dress to get tailored recently as my work requires professional attire. I have been looking for a new tailor and so this was my first time coming in. They took the time while I tried on every single piece of clothing I brought in (there was a lot!) and made the effort to ensure that they measured it out appropriately and that I was happy with the markings and if I wanted anything else done. They also reached out to me right on schedule, when I asked to have the clothes ready to pick up by. I was in a hurry when I picked everything up, so I tried each piece on this morning -- perfect fit, every piece! In the past with other tailors, when I needed to take in blouses or jackets pretty significantly at the waist, the upper part of those tops would then have extra give and just never looked right. These were tailored in such a way that didn't allow that extra give. I'm very happy with how everything turned out and I will certainly be back! read more

This husband and wife duo are INCREDIBLE! I went here last year to have a bridesmaids and my own wedding dress done. They were nothing but reassuring and making sure I felt beautiful on my special day. They got everything done very timely and were communicative! I had no worries or concerns. They worked with me on the timing and completion of the dress! I cried I was so happy. I have since referred others here to have their wedding dress tailored. Beyond formal wear and special occasions I have taken other clothes here. They are always very fair on the price, thorough, stand by their work and do an amazing job. Brought my wedding dress in for alterations this past summer for my September wedding and was not disappointed. Wonderful job, and very fairly priced! I purchased my dress at David's Bridal, and it would have cost 2 1/2 times as much to bring it there for alterations. The reviews and website were exactly what I was looking for "fashion design and couture alterations" as advertised on their website. Sadly, 5 Star Tailoring is a case of overpromising/ advertising and under delivering. I stopped by the shop and brought in a blazer and a reference picture of what I was hoping could be done or something similar. What I wanted was for the blazer to be turned into an asymmetrical/ one shoulder blazer. The lady who greeted me looked at my blazer and reference picture and said it wasn't possible and she didn't have time to do it. Keep in mind: I was never asked when I needed it done by and if I was asked, it would've been at least two months before my event so it was no rush at all. I walked in, inquired what I was looking for, and left. I was disappointed that my alteration could not be done given the website stated they could so many services. read more

After calling place after place all over Reno and Tahoe, I kept speaking to incredibly rude people that seemed to not care for my business. I had been seeking someone to simply adjust a strap on my dress for an event that was well over a month out. I even was told by a tailor to "pin it myself" and "drop it through the slot in the door...". Nope. After somewhat giving up hope I finally stumbled upon 5 Star Tailoring. Their website said "no appointment necessary", and seeing as they were a solely a tailoring service and not dry cleaner I said screw it and drove the 25m from my house and hoped for the best. Among walking in I was greeted by one of the owner's, immediately I was put at ease. I could tell this was going to be a pleasant experience. As soon as I told him what I needed he asked me when, and guaranteed me that they could absolutely hep me out. I stepped in the dressing room, and stepped out. The other owner his wife neatly pinned my dress, efficiently might I add. They quoted me at $28 and told me to come back in about 3 weeks. Today was the day I was due to pick up my dress and before they even turned their Open sign I was sent a personal text letting me know my dress was ready for pick up! She did an excellent job, and the dress fits beautifully! I am just so impressed by how courteous, and helpful the owners at 5 star were. I will definitely be going back for future alternations. The tailoring itself was very nicely done and my wedding dress was beautiful. The pricing was about average for a wedding dress tailoring. They were very nice and accommodating about getting me in during the holidays for a first fitting to do measurements. However, they gave me a time period of when my dress would be done. The time came and went and no phone call or text. I waited an extra week or so thinking they were doing the finishing touches. Time came and went and nothing still. I called and left a voicemail asking nicely what the status was since the timeline had passed of what they gave me. He called back leaving a voicemail saying that they had lots of clients ahead of mez especially because my wedding wasn't for months to come and that they'll be done with my dress in a few weeks.. No apology for giving me a timeline that they couldn't stick to. No apology for not reaching out and updating me on the status of my dress sooner. It was almost a "how dare you" tone in the voicemail. It made me feel like I wasn't important as a client. It's true I didn't need my dress for months, but if you give your client a timeline, then that person is going to be expecting it to be done by the end of that timeline at the latest. I understand things happen and people get busy, but that's why you use your communication skills and let the client know the delay and update them on an appropriate timeline of when it'll be done. I'll never forget how upset listening to that voicemail made me. I understand maybe the intention of the voicemail left for me wasn't meant to come across rude or offensive, but please just communicate that with your clients. I'm sure the majority of people would understand. read more
