You will wonder if you wandered off Earth and are in Heaven. Though I bet nothing breaks in Heaven. These people are the best! I have had so many experiences here where an employee helps me fix something in a new and different way for crazy cheap. It's clean. It's organized. I have never had to wait to check out. I don't even know how they do it, but we are eternally grateful! Outstanding. There is no better place in the entire City of Los Angeles. I love coming here. They should be so proud! read more

Altadena hardware is an absolute jewel. They are the antithesis of a large box store. Numerous, extremely knowledgeable, friendly staff available and a wide range of pretty much anything you need make them my go to hardware store. I love having a community hardware store to pop into no matter what my needs. Thank you thank you thank you! read more

I absolutely love this hardware store. The staff is knowledgeable and they are always willing to help with a smile. In an age of big, impersonal box stores, this stands out as a gem. It brings back fond memories of growing up in a small town in Connecticut. read more

I love this place! I live right across the street so it is super convenient and WAY WORTH the few extra pennies to just be able to walk over and get whatever I need. The staff is very friendly and the service is outstanding, especially Anthony who is always so warm and polite. You can tell that his momma raised him right! LOL! I have 4 sons of my own but they're all back east where I'm from. He doesn't know this (until now) but its always a pleasure to interact with him because he gives me my little dose of motherly affection. :-) So from soup to nuts, these guys are knowledgeable and do it all. They are the real deal. I highly recommend that you support this gem of our community. read more

Great local spot when tons of reasonable and hard-working employees. The only reason I didn't give 5-stars was because of their 'ZERO RETURNS ON TOOLS' policy, even if unopened or defective out of the box. With that said, they worked with me and we figured out a solution, but you never have to jump through hoops at 'H.D.' for this. Yet, I will still support my Altadena hardware for non-tool purchases. read more

We were planning ahead for the predicted extreme heat, and desperately needed a piece of plexiglass cut to fit an old glazed window that then needed an oval cut out of the center for the exhaust of a portable AC unit. We needed this for an elderly, housebound friend that is now confined to a wheelchair and who had no AC in her house. We called Home Depot and OSH and both said they'd cut the rectangle piece, but we were on our own for the most important part: the oval. I saw other reviews and called Altadena Hardware. Their staff were all over it! They cut it, and it fit PERFECTLY! I can't thank Jimmy, Anthony and the other staff at Altadena Hardware enough. We will be shopping there from now on, even if it isn't the closest hardware store to us. This is a true "can do" store! read more

This place is a go to and get the stuff you need. Plenty of people there to assist me for all the various items I needed. Bought l.e.d. 3pack light bulbs a one was defective, they were quick to return for another. No waiting in line like Walmart or Lowes. Local businesses is a big plus read more

For openers, I have to say that Jason C. gave a GREAT review!!! He looks young, so I will have to condescend to the fact that he is very prescient, because I am older and in fact, have experienced saying bye-bye to many things that I took for granted until they were gone, and now wish they were still here to enjoy. I always liked Don and Eleanor, and Don certainly knew his stuff, but I think he was a little short on personality and enthusiasm. He also seemed to be very disinterested in the store and its general appearance. So when I heard he was selling, it certainly did not come as a surprise. And we all know the disaster that occurred when Steve took over the place...and I am not talking just about the bus that tried to knock down the building. But now, as if a much higher source has shined down on the old historic building, that block of Altadena that not only spans from corner to corner, but also a period of what could well be over a hundred years, has been given not only a stay of execution, but also a renewed jolt of energy and enthusiasm. In the way of the most beneficial family of highly professional retailers with many years experience and know-how. I have always liked giving the small store retailer my business no matter what the cost, but now the pleasant staff and knowledgeable principals have really made the store a go-to destination for me. I love what they have done, and I am sure they will develop a very loyal following of customers and friends who will, like me, shop there anytime it is possible. My favorite of the staffers is Anthony, and if any of you out there are lenders, you should fund this kid in his own store because he would be awesome! And successful!!! read more

Moved here a week ago and I have already been in three times! Customer Service is outstanding and a really amazing selection of items considering its size. Growing up my dad and grandfather owned a hardware store and just going in here I feel like I have stepped back in time - in a good way. read more

We are impressed every time we come in. There is a great selection, not because they have everything in the whole world, but because whoever stocks the store knows exactly what people need. They also have really great and helpful staff. There seems to be a ton of people working here and they are all very knowledgeable. It's the best hardware store around! read more

We just happened into this place and it was like wandering into your quintessential small-town America hardware store. Everyone was unbelievably helpful and quick to ask if we needed help. I wouldn't have been surprised if they somehow knew our names already. They found exactly what we needed in seconds. If I could afford a house in this city, I would be there all the time. But grateful to have gotten to experience this truly wonderful local business. read more

I love this hardware store. They are always very helpful and friendly here. It can be intimidating as a woman to walk into a hardware store, but not at Altadena. I love patronizing local businesses, esp. this one. read more

The new owners have really updated the store. They have many more items available and if they don't have it they will order it for you. The staff is very attentive and usually greet you at the door with "can I help you?". Their prices are competitive, but if they are a bit more they make it up in convenience. read more

The staff at Altadena Hardware impresses me every time I go in. They are knowledgable and always helpful with my household projects. It's priceless to have such a solid store with quality staff and product close by in Altadena. Sure, maybe things cost a bit more than big stores down the hill; however, their staff is far superior. read more

Sucks to write a review about a local spot but this place needs to focus on service when it's prices are way higher than big retail spots. Remember that people have options and service is what counts.. The owner is rude.. Sad to say that this is the last time I will stop by here or send my friends there. I will drive to Home Depot and pay less for better service! read more

I love this place. For being a smaller store, they have a surprisingly large selection of items, and the prices usually aren't much more than the big guys, like Home Depot. The best thing about this place is the staff. Super friendly and happy to help you find what you're looking for. They're even cool about giving their honest opinion on their products, and will direct you to a different product if they think it will work better for your needs, even if that means you end up not spending as much as you would have otherwise. read more

I love this neighborhood hardware store. They are extremely well stocked and always have just what I need. There's always people to help (unlike a Lowe's or Home Depot, where staff seems to disappear the moment you need them.) Prices are good, and I don't mind paying a little more sometimes to support a local business. read more

First time in today. My wife and I came in looking for a new toilet handle. We were immediately greeted and helped. After we found what we were looking for, we were approached twice by 2 other employees asking if we need further help. Great service. Thanks guys. read more

Love this place. Workers are very friendly and they ask if you need help finding anything as soon as you walk in!! Not like those chain branches that could care less what you're looking for lol read more

Great prices, and great customer service. The place is small compared to the larger names, but it is a great place to shop for home and garden needs. read more

I always try to buy items from Altadena Hardware first; I've been going there for 15 years. They have a really comprehensive inventory, the the people who work there are ALL amazingly helpful. read more

If you are a woman...DONT BOTHER! The management and staff, aside from a select few, are ABHORRENT! They will laugh, belittle, and generally behave like entitled chauvinists! I know that I come with difficult questions and hard to find items, as I have worked in design and construction for nearly 20 years. An appropriate answer for any of my unanswerable questions is; I don't know, let me look into that. In the last 3 of my 4 visits, I was scoffed at, laughed at, jokes about (in my presence!) and TODAY walked away from as the (manager (owners son) Yelled over his shoulder "you're gonna need tape for that!" He advised me COMPLETELY incorrectly. After wasting several hours applying his inept solution, I did a you tube search and had the 80 cent, 2 minute solution in hand. I don't expect anyone to know everything. What I DO EXPECT, basic human decency and gender equality in the approach to client clients/customers! The first time I was poorly treated, I refrained from writing a r review. I instead called and was expertly quelled by Jimmy. After THIS many horrid experiences, I look forward to the 20 mile round trip to visit my friends in the Orange aprons whose mission statement is "UM, THATS NOT MY DEPARTMENT!" Umm, at least I'm not made to feel dumb! SHAMEFUL! Avoid this store at ALL COSTS! read more

Very friendly, helpful staff. Always seem to have what I want in stock which is increasingly rare these days. Like the location too. I will be back! read more

Best neighborhood hardware store I've been to. Well organized and excellent customer service!

Have always found this a convenient place to get a bolt, sprinkler stuff, paint, etc. Selection is reasonable. Prices higher than big boxes, but worth the convenience. Parking out front is easy. New owners have rearranged the store layout to good effect. read more

You will be surprised for all of the products they sell! Fu#$ Home Dept, when it comes to actual service, you have to come here. Once you walk in, you will be asked if you need help, and if you want to just browse, they will not hound you. very cool staff. read more

I am there all the time and I am always greeted with a smile and awesome help! This is one of the best staff teams I have come across. The owner is also amazing... has ordered special products for me and when my daughter thought she lost her favorite toy in the store he contacted me immediately. Way above and beyond!!!!! read more

Great neighborhood hardware store. They do not carry lumbar of any size, but most everything else there I've been able to fine. Great for the weekend Warrior, if not specialize professionals. The staff is friendly and though they have a lot of young high school interns, the older people know what their stuff. The kids are not bad, in fact quite friendly, they're just not as knowledgeable due to lack of experience. It's very convenient and pleasant. read more

It's amazing how much you can find in this small neighborhood hardware. The prices are always fair and the staff is consistently helpful. Why do we chase to the big stores far away when there is store like this so close by? I always regret it when I do and haven't found what I was looking for, only to finally find it here! Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. I come in often and they've always got a solution to whatever issue I'm trying to fix. The owner, Jimmy, is also on the floor and his hardware knowledge and general know-how is second to none. Great family owned/run business! read more

Altadena Hardware goes way back. I remember it from the 50s. Always the place with the answers until Don (the young fellow, my dad always called him) retired and moved away a few years ago. New owners seem to be keeping up the tradition well. read more

I'm a big fan of hardware stores in general, but this one I love. Mostly because the staff is so extremely helpful, as others have noted. They jump in (when needed) to assist in solving your problem--twice, I had different employees suggest an ingenious solution to something I wanted to do. And the ideas worked! I felt empowered and supported. Personal and professional, Altadena Hardware is a great find. read more

Altadena true value is one of the last community hardware stores that is a perfect example of the rural urban experience of beautiful Altadena. The staff are friendly and knowledgable. The nicest part about the staff is they are helpful without being condescending. They are respectful, sweet, and super stylish! Please shop here! The more we all shop here, the more they will be able to stock what we all need! P.S. their "secret" succulent nursery across the alley is adorable! read more

The best staff. Super helpful and knowledgeable crew. Always a great experience (unlike most other hardware stores)...

This place is the best. 99 times out of 100 they have what I need, and there are a host of friendly people there to help you find it. I will always try to give them my business whenever possible. I wish all stores had such excellent customer service. read more

This place is great! I have always been able to get anything I needed here and the staff is soo nice and helpful. This is my go-to.

Excellent store. They have things your cannot find elsewhere, even at Lowe's or Home Depot. Super helpful and nice staff, including the knowledgeable owner. They have been a neighborhood fixture and asset for many years. I've been going there for 31 years and have never been disappointed. read more

Just discovered this store today. Really great little store and very helpful. I do everything I can to avoid the nightmare that is HDepot. I may start traveling here from South Pasadena now that OSH closed. read more

I can't believe it's taken me so long to find this place. I was sad when Orchard in Pasadena closed because it was convenient, but it closing led me here and I'd say it's a trade up! It's a local shop but well stocked, clean, and with AMAZING staff. Everyone is very attentive, helpful, and happy. This is how it should be done! read more

I have never before been treated this well at a hardware store. Almost everywhere I have been, folks are nice and helpful, but at Altadena Hardware, they go the extra mile. Every single person asked me how they could help me, and all were knowledgeable. Truly a great place and I will drive extra just to go there from now on. read more
