Rice & Black Beans
Vishnu G.

The food here was delicious. It's a bit on the expensive side, but well worth the cost. Queso fundido - we had the option with mushrooms and mojo de ajo. The chips were fresh and crispy, and the cheese dip was savory with plenty of garlic and other seasonings. Pea shoot tacos - fantastic. I loved the fried chickpeas in particular, super crispy and well seasoned. The tortillas also tasted very fresh. Rice and beans - the rice is herbaceous, the beans are rich and comforting, and both are balanced well by the tart and slightly spicy pico. My meal came to around $40 with tax and tip. Definitely go for outdoor seating if the weather is nice.

Snapper and flautas

Restaurant Week Lunch -- $30 Special Went to restaurant week with my sister and finally checked out this little corner spot I've walked by dozens of times but never tried. It's a small, charming place -- definitely has that "hidden gem" vibe from the outside. Inside, the ambiance was open and welcoming, with both indoor and outdoor seating. We arrived right at opening, so it was quiet and not crowded, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, service left a bit to be desired. We ordered everything at once, as is typical for the restaurant week menu, but saw others who came in after us receive their food before we did. That was a little frustrating and set the tone. Appetizers: We started with the snapper tostaditos and the chicken flauta. The snapper dish came with just three small bites, and it was seriously lacking in seasoning -- it needed salt and didn't leave much of an impression. The chicken flauta, on the other hand, was much better: nice crunchy exterior, flavorful filling, and tender meat. Definitely the stronger of the two. Entrees: I had the chicharrón-crusted shrimp -- good flavor overall, but the shrimp were slightly overcooked. My sister ordered the steak enchiladas, which oddly had the same sauce as the chicken flauta. While not terrible, the repetition was disappointing. Overall: Nothing was bad, but nothing stood out either. It was a decent lunch, but nothing memorable enough to bring me back. For $30, I was hoping for at least one dish that hit it out of the park -- sadly, that didn't happen.

Tacos

Came pretty late on a Saturday for some post-drinks bites. Tacos were amazing and really hit the spot. Big fan of their carne asada tacos, really good crisp on them. I also really enjoyed the chicken tinga tacos. Our server was great and checked on us. Love the outdoor seating area, the hedges make it feel a bit more separate from the sidewalk.

Chips and Guacamole, Chips, Salsa

Heard about this place that got a Michelin star and decided to try. It's a small space and we went in around 5 pm on a Thursday . We were told they had tables reserved so was offered a high top and then they moved around some reservations, most of the food was good, my reservations about this place is that the food is all spiced the same way. Most of the foods are heavily spicy and at times it made it hard for me to eat. But nevertheless everything still tasted good and the drinks were great. Service was slow at times for such a small restaurant

I visited Alta Calidad while on the hunt for a Mexican spot during NY Restaurant Week and it did not disappoint. I ordered the Snapper Tostaditas, Carne Asada, and Churros. My favorite of the bunch was the Carne Asada. I would order that again if I returned. The service was great. The waitress answered any questions we had and the drinks came out fast. This was great value for a price of $45 (because it was during restaurant week). The ambiance was great, with natural lighting and good music. I would recommend this place to someone looking for slightly upscale Mexican food.

Happy Hour sign.

A friend and I stopped into Alta Calidad in Prospect Heights this week for happy hour. The classic margaritas, several wines and beer were included as well as some food. I had the classic margarita and it was good! My friend, has a glass of rose which she really didn't like. We ordered the carne asada quesadilla (good!) and spinach quest fondido (just ok, we expected something less watery). Overall, a good Happy Hour spot on Mon-Thurs (3-6pm). Service was good and I like the space- very airy!

Breakfast roti

Tried out the brunch menu at @altacalidadbk and my breakfast roti was giant! There was a lot of topping (too much for me personally) so actually ok to share with another person. The restaurant is smaller than I expected but very nice vibes and the staff were friendly.

Queso Fundido

One of my favorite spots for drinks and queso fundido! The tortillas are always fresh and warm and a perfect match for appetizer. You honestly can't go wrong with any item on the menu and the staff will always tell you people's favorites! Been here several times and never had a bad experience. Definitely worth stopping by to try!

Tacos Platter with the Steak, Shrimp and Pescado tacos (we opted not to have the mushroom ones)

Stopped by at Alta Calidad for some food and drinks after a Half Marathon in Prospect Park. We sat outside on a nice day and had the Tacos Platter and some Yuca Fries. Both were very delicious. We mostly got beers but one friend got the Michelada and they enjoyed it very much. The waitress and staff were very friendly. I'd definitely come back.

Queso Fundido and Crispy Tempura Shrimp Tacos

What a great spot! I love that you are able to make reservations for both indoor and outdoor seating. We had a couple of the specials (Wagu Nachos, Hibiscus Mescal Margaritas), and the Queso and Shrimp Tempura Tacos. Everything was incredible and the prices were reasonable as well. Would recommend!

Brisket Tacos

Maybe I was just in a good mood because I was two blocks and a couple hours away from great seats at Madonna's Celebration tour, but a recent dinner at Alta Calidad convinced me that this spot is a clear cut above the other Mexioptions in the neighborhood. Alta toes a delicate line of being a specialer-than-usual neighborhood spot, without tipping over into being precious chichi "elevated Mexican" cuisine (looking at you, Xixa.) The food? Portion sizes are appropriately restrained, in keeping with Alta's glamorous, serious vibe. Dishes come out almost inconveniently quickly, but everything I ate was really good. The guacamole was accompanied by homemade, well-seasoned chips; the pumpkin blossom quesadilla was nicely executed, and my husband liked his brisket tacos. The rice and beans were a serviceable filling side dish. Alta Calidad also passed my official margarita test: my picky Virgo husband did not make a funny face on first sip, and reordered the same drink. If only you knew, reader, what a towering achievement that is. They have an appropriate panoply of tequila options, but also not too many margaritas on the menu - a classic, a vegetal "jardin", and a spicy pineapple one. One small thing to be aware of: a "high top" reservation may well mean you're sitting at the bar. A friendly bartender and good service made this fine, but I was expecting a table. Overall, I think Alta Calidad ("high quality") is truth in advertising: not revolutionary or worthy of a special pilgrimage, but high quality and well deserving of a visit if it fits into your plans.

Nice brunch spot, reservations expected. The service was quick and attentive. The menu is very clear and has both savory and sweet options. The portions are perfect. I ordered sunny side up eggs and the pancakes, which are great for those with a sweet tooth. The pancakes soak up the compote perfectly making maple syrup unnecessary. I highly recommend the Mexican hot chocolate. This place is very chill for families and all.

Dog and stroller friendly. Dog treats given upon arrival

The drinks are not very strong and slow service. But, an excellent ambiance, dog friendly, stroller friendly. We enjoyed sitting outside for bites. We got chips and guac and the Brussels sprout). Brussels sprouts were the standout- Delicious!

Drinks were good as were the Brussel Sprouts! Everything else was unfortunately quite bland for our taste preferences.

Our reservation was for 8:30pm, but we arrived early and Alejandra, the hostess, was incredibly welcoming and accommodating. Even though she was ready to seat us, we decided to hang at the bar until the rest of our party arrived and that was the perfect move. Alkarys behind the bar was top-tier. She recommended the Siempre Reposado, and let me tell you... smooth, clean, dangerously good. If you're into tequila, that's a must. Now let's talk about the food. We ordered the quesadilla, rajas, tamales, tacos, and the queso fundido and every single dish hit. The queso fundido came out bubbling, rich, perfectly melted with that pull you want when you scoop it up. The tamales were moist and packed with flavor, wrapped beautifully and clearly made with care. The rajas had that perfect balance of roasted pepper sweetness and savory depth. The tacos? Authentic, well-seasoned, and layered with flavor, no shortcuts. Even the quesadilla stood out, crispy on the outside with that perfectly melted interior. Everything felt traditional, elevated but still true to its roots. You can taste the authenticity. Service was attentive without being overbearing, the ambiance was super casual and laid back, the kind of Brooklyn spot you pull up to for a real dinner experience, not just a quick bite. Highly recommend this place if you're out and about in Brooklyn. Definitely coming back for the tequila, the queso fundido, and round two of those tacos. I'm gonna try eating at the bar to check out the spot in the front of the house.

4.4 and rounded up. Ambiance 4 stars…read more Food 5 stars. Service 4.3 stars. AMBIANCE: Walking to the restaurant from the subway, it's located on an unassuming block at the corner of 4th St and Havemeyer in Williamsburg, front of store doesn't particularly stand out. Walking in they've decorated with creative, crafty (in a good way) touches--the multitude of ropes draped from the ceiling add dimension to the ceiling and the bar back wall is composed of wood pieces forming a multi-colored herringbone pattern. Textured glass pendant lights hanging from the ceiling throw mini geometric patterns across the dark walls, and vibrant canvas artworks add pictorial interest along the walls. FOOD: YUM. I can see why this place was jam packed on a Saturday night, and reservations are needed. Strong recommendation for their tasting menu at $58 pp, what a delightful meal! 8 sharing dishes and 3 desserts were perfect for a party of five, and drinks are separate though you can add a cocktail pairing for $47. For each main they provide a serving per person, and the desserts are shared. I came hungry and was so full by the end of the meal--everything was delicious! - grapefruit guacamole w/house-made chips: the grapefruit chunks were "meaty" and surprisingly went really well with the guac, it added a different citrus element than the usual lime. Comes with a small bowl of maybe 6-7 chips and we asked for two chips refills since the chips to guac and salsa ratio was low. - spicy faroe islands' salmon tartar: tasty and I liked the latin flavors and corn, snow peas, a touch of wasabi. Flavors of the sesame-soy-truffle-lemon vin and crema got a little muddled. Relatively more "generic" dish of the evening though I was here for it! Any dish with fresh tender salmon, I can't complain. - blue crab and carrot tostada, generous shredded crab salad on top of freshly crisp blue corn tortilla. Topped with pumpkin seeds, dill, cilantro, and saffron-orange aioli. - three cheese & artichoke 'queso fundido': served in a very hot ceramic pot and super melty and delicious, eaten with the fluffy grilled pita and green apple slices + salsa. One of the top picks of the evening. - roasted bone marrow and chorizo, served as tacos with fresh blue corn tortillas, and added a sprinkle of pickled onions--does that sound amazing? Bc it was AAHMAZING. - spicy chipotle-guajillo shimp 'diablo' (not spicy): served with pumpkin tortillas and three accompaniments on the side--mushroom chile crisp, horseradish crema, celery 'salsa macha". Part 2 to make your own tacos was another hit! Our entire table agreed if they sold the sauce for the shrimp we'd all buy it. - heritage pork osso bucco 'carnitas' with Fall-spiced black mole, sour cherry mostardo, calabrian chile pesto: cue drooling now. This part 3 of the tacos was served on pumpkin tortillas; the meat was practically falling off the bone, tender, juicy and flavorful. - buffalo-style com 'elote: sooo good too! A little messier to eat since it comes drizzled with spicy hot sauce butter, feta, lime aioli, cilantro, though totally worth it! - Desserts: --green tea matcha churros: comes with two little pots of spiced mexican chocolate & passion fruit sauce. Warm, sugary and crisp without being too sweet. --pumpkin spiced-vanilla flan: topped with sour cherries, cocoa nibs & toasted seed 'trail mix", if you love flan you'll love this, so smooth and creamy with a bit of crunch and tang from the cherries. --pistachio tres leches cake with cream cheese frosting, raspberry, using an olive oil cake: we all agreed this was probably the best tres leches we've ever had. The pistachio nuttiness and the creaminess from the milks paired well. SERVICE: Very friendly and attentive service though it was very loud in the restaurant and they had to really shout. There was a delay in the middle of our meal I think bc kitchen was slammed, after the entree we waited about 35 min for our desserts. Considering they limited the seating to 2 hours and about half of our party arrived 20 min late, and accounting for the long wait pre-dessert, they did us solid by extending our table time by about an hour in total. Also great that they brought the first dessert out with a candle for my friend's birthday.

A trendy spot for modern Mexican eats! Everything was baseline yummy, standouts include Blue Crab…read moreTostada, Shrimp and Scallop Tacos and Tiramisu Tres Leches. Vegetarian options were super great too, and decent selection. We ordered à la carte, but there's a chef's tasting menu for $63 which feels well worth.
